Touchscreen Driver Working for Android on HD2

As can be seen on the HTC Linux twitter, it appears Cotulla has gotten the touchscreen and keypad drivers working for linux / android on hd2!

We have been getting a lot of exciting news in the past few days, this is really unbelievable!

Yes, you read that correctly. dcordes has his HTC HD2 running Android.
There aren't anymore details than that yet, but this is amazing. I didn't expect it this soon!
Now I don't think this is a stable, completely usable build, as far as I know they are still hunting for the touchscreen drivers among others, but still this is extremely exciting progress. Hopefully some pictures / video pop up soon. I don't have an HD2 at the moment, so I cannot try this out. :(

Ubuntu Linux running on the HTC HD2

Thats right folks. As can be seen on the HTC Linux twitter, our hero dcordes has posted a picture of his HTC HD2 running Ubuntu Linux! I'd love to express how excited I am, but I'm typing while on the road so I will give you guys an update later! It wont be much longer until we have Android on the HTC HD2

Android / Linux on HD2 Kernel Segfault Update

The kernel segfault problems have been solved! Good job Cotulla!
Another exciting set of news for all of us HTC HD2 enthusiasts!

Android isn't here yet. But this is a major step forward. The kernel is now working and I believe the next big step will be getting a touchscreen driver. However, I have no doubts in my mind that these crafty developers won't be able to get past that. Let's all just wait and see what happens next!

In other Linux / Android on HD2 news, Cotulla is now helping out with the project! In case you don't know who that is, Cotulla is a very skilled developer, who created the Cotulla HSPL that many HD2 Hackers use.

This is all very exciting and I will be sure to keep you posted as we hear more!

UPDATE: My apologies for getting anyone excited, but after some discussion, it seems that these drivers are not going to help us. We will have to keep waiting patiently for some concrete updates from the devs.

Do you text a lot? Have you been having problems with your messages showing up in the wrong order on your HD2? I know I have, I'd get a message from someone, and when I reply, my message shows up before theirs! Well DeadVirus has created a fix for this frustrating problem, and it's called SMSTimestampFixer.

How it works (from DeadVirus' original thread):

When a new message arrives, this fix replaces the message time (that comes from the server time) with the device time and this way they will always show in the order they have arrived.
Also, every time that the device time is more than 1 minute different from the SMS original time, it will show the original SMS time between "[ ]" before the SMS text to let you know that it was sent some time ago.
This could be usefull if someone sends you a message and it does not arrive at that moment because your device was off (for example), you will see the time at when the sms arrived and not the one at when it was sent.
It will also show the date if the message was sent more than 24 hours ago.

If you were one of the lucky few who caught the previous version before it was released you probably already have had fun with this app. Whether or not you did, the new version is definitely worth looking at. This started as a project to test the "1ghz hack" that has been floating around, and has turned into a very useful tool for the speed-hungry.

LeoCpuSpeed allows you to:

Disable/Enable auto-scaling. (By default, the HD2 uses autoscaling, what this means is that the processor is constantly running at 768mhz, and doesn't use it's full 1ghz until it is called upon. By disabling, you can constantly run your phone at full speed.
Overclock. Now I nor NetRipper (the dev) are not responsible for any damage done by this. While you may not hurt your device trying this, there is always the chance. Overclocking puts more stress on your HD2's snapdragon processor, which can lead to premature failure.
Stress Test the CPU. (This function must also be enabled in order to overclock without having your HD2 plugged into a power source. Again, not recommended.)
Apply your desired speed upon Boot-up.

It has been noted in the original thread that leaving the device constantly at 998mhz has suprisingly very little effect on the battery, and I can vouch for this. I have been using v3 of LeoCpuSpeed since it dropped, and there is no significant drop in my battery life. My phone feels quicker, snappier, but this could be placebo effect, who knows. Either way, I like it and I have it set to keep my phone running at 998mhz at all times. Thanks NetRipper!

This could be very good. Funny how after the videos drop of the devs beginning to get some progress, HTC decides to release these tasty treats to the public. I don't want to speak too soon, but I've got a feeling we will be getting some more updates from the devs soon. Everyone cross your fingers, and show the devs some support.

If you do a lot of multi-tasking on your HD2, then this is a MUST HAVE app. I'm always leaving things running in the background, switching around between apps, and sometimes my phone really starts to slow down. If this is happening to you, I really recommend you check out cleanRAM.

cleanRAM offers you 3 levels of memory cleaning, and a customizable option. You can set it up to start certain programs after it finishes cleaning, or even use it to close certain programs. What I really like however, is the fact that you can schedule it to run on it's own. Just install it and forget about it!

Don't worry about it closing any programs you need to keep running (I use skype for work so I keep it running at all times), you can add exceptions for cleanRAM to skip over and leave running; and with a built-in update function, you don't have to worry about opening up your browser to search for a new version! Co0kie's Home Tab v1.7.1

Thought I should share this with you guys if for some reason you haven't heard of it yet. Co0kie's Home Tab v1.7.1 is a must for customizing your HD2. Just a few things you can do with CHT:

-Move and change home screen items. You can change clocks, add a notification bar, edit the number of appointments to display.

-Customize your lock screen. You can select from 1 of 3 different lock screens, and you can also edit the layout of these in addition to your home screen.

-Edit quick links. Add more or less, customize the number of quick links on your home page, it also enables you to have multiple pages for your quick links (if you really need than many)

Turn your HD2 into a metal detector!

Found this cool little app on XDA this morning, it makes use of the HD2's built in compass to detect nearby metal! Since it works off of the compass I'm pretty sure it only detects metals that would be affected by magnets, but it's still fun to play around with. Show off your new HD2 Metal Detector to your friends!
