Curiosity rover is a robotic, car-sized Mars rover currently exploring Gale Crater, near the equator of Mars. The rover is a nuclear-powered, mobile scientific laboratory and part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission by the United States.

The MSL mission has four main scientific goals: investigation of the Martian climate, geology, and whether Mars could have ever supported life, including investigation of the role of water and its planetary habitability. Curiosity carries the most advanced payload of scientific equipment ever used on the surface of Mars.

Curiosity is the fourth NASA surface rover sent to Mars in 16 years, and is the heaviest robotic wheeled vehicle (at 900 kg) successfully deployed on a space mission, exceeding the 840 kg mass of the Soviet Union's Lunokhod 2 lunar rover from 1973.

The Royal Australian Navy Anzac-class frigate HMAS Perth

HMAS Perth (FFH 157) is an Anzac class frigate of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

The last of the class to be completed, she was built by Tenix Defence Systems and commissioned into the RAN in 2006.

In 2007, Perth became the first major warship of the RAN to be commanded by a woman. During 2010 and 2011, the frigate was used as the testbed for a major upgrade to the Anzac class' ability to defend themselves from anti-ship missiles.

HMS Campbeltown was a Batch 3 Type 22 frigate of the British Royal Navy.

Built by Cammell Laird Shipbuilders Ltd. in Birkenhead, she was part of the third batch of Type 22s, which were considerably larger than their predecessors and incorporated more advanced weaponry after lessons learnt from the Falklands War. She was decommissioned on 7 April 2011.

Campbeltown's last deployment was a seven month tour from 2007-2008 in the Persian Gulf, where she operated in support of Operation Calash and Operation Telic.[3] In early 2004 the vessel was deployed as part of NATO's Standing Naval Force Atlantic. HMS Campbeltown entered refit in September 2008.

The ship's bell of the first HMS Campbeltown, a Second World War Town-class destroyer famous for her role in the St. Nazaire Raid, has been loaned from Campbelltown, Pennsylvania to the current Campbeltown for the duration of her Royal Navy service.

The Royal Navy announced in March 2011 that the Campbeltown would be decommissioned on 7 April 2011. She paid a final visit to her namesake town of Campbeltown, Argyll in March 2011 where a series of ceremonies, including a town centre parade by the ship's crew took place to commemorate the end of the ship's active service.

Campbeltown made her final entrance to Plymouth on 31 March 2011 before decommissioning in a traditional ceremony on 7 April 2011.

The ship's bell has now been returned to Campbelltown, Pennsylvania. The ship's bell made specifically for the latest HMS Campbeltown was given to Campbeltown, Kintyre, to be displayed in the town's museum until a future Campbeltown is commissioned.

INS Satpura is a Shivalik class frigate of the Indian Navy, built at Mazagon Dock Limited.

Her keel was laid down in 2002, and she was launched on 4 June 2004. She was handed over to the Indian Navy on 9 July 2011 and was commissioned on 20 August 2011.

The Shivalik class frigates or Project 17 class frigates are multi-role frigates with stealth features being built for the Indian Navy. They are the first warships being built in India with such features. The lead vessel of the class was commissioned on April 29, 2010.

The Shivalik class (Project 17 and Project 17A) will be the main frigates of the Indian Navy in the first half of the 21st century.[11] All ships of the class are being built by Mazagon Dock Limited. Currently 3 Shivalik class project 17 frigates have been completed while a further seven Shivalik class project 17A frigates are on order. It is understood that 2 more vessels were originally expected to be ordered, But this is no longer clear.

The class and the lead vessel have been named for the Shivalik hills. Subsequent vessels in the class are also named for hill-ranges in India.

The Formidable class multi-role stealth frigates are the latest surface platforms to enter into service with the Republic of Singapore Navy, and are multi-mission derivatives of the French Navy’s La Fayette class frigate.

The frigates are key information nodes and fighting units, and are described as "by far the most advanced surface combatants in Southeast Asia."

The six ships form the 185 Squadron of the RSN.

The frigates will be equipped with Sikorsky S-70B naval helicopters, an international derivative of the United States Navy SH-60B Seahawk. MINDEF signed a contract with Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in January 2005 to acquire six of these helicopters, which will be organic to the frigates.

These naval helicopters are equipped with anti-surface and anti-submarine combat systems, extending the ship’s own surveillance and over-the-horizon targeting and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The naval helicopters will be raised as a squadron in the Republic of Singapore Air Force and piloted by air force pilots, but the system operators will be from the RSN.

The frigates have a special surface-to-air missile conﬁguration, combining the Thales Herakles radar with the Sylver A50 launcher and a mix of MBDA Aster 15 and 30 missiles.

The lead ship of the class, RSS Formidable was commissioned on 5 May 2007, marking the 40th year of the RSN. The six frigates form the 185 Squadron of the RSN.

HMCS Charlottetown (FFH 339) is a Halifax-class frigate that has served in the Canadian Forces since 1995.

Charlottetown is the tenth ship in her class which is based on the Canadian Patrol Frigate Project. She is the third vessel to carry the designation HMCS Charlottetown.

Charlottetown was laid down on 18 December 1993 at Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd., Saint John and launched on 1 October 1994. She was officially commissioned into the CF on 9 September 1995 and carries the hull classification symbol 339.

She is assigned to Maritime Forces Atlantic (MARLANT) and is homeported at CFB Halifax.

On Wednesday March 2, 2011, the Charlottetown left its home port of Halifax to join the NATO-led air-sea Operation Unified Protector during the 2011 Libyan civil war.

The Charlottetown is working in conjunction with an American carrier battle group led by the USS Enterprise. The stated mission was to help restore peace, evacuate Canadian citizens in Libya and provide humanitarian relief.

On Friday March 18th the Canadian government expanded the mission by announcing that HMCS Charlottetown, in addition to six CF-18 fighter aircraft and two CC-177s transport aircraft, would constitute Canada's contribution to the enforcement. of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, aimed to protect Libya's civilian population(Operation MOBILE).

By March 21, the CBC reported that the Charlottetown was patrolling the waters off north Libya. Since then, the Charlottetown has seen military action at least twice:

* on May 12, the frigate engaged several small boats involved in an attack on the port city of Misrata.

* on May 30, the frigate came under fire from a dozen BM-21 rockets while patrolling off the Libyan coast, but no damage or injuries were reported.

On Monday, a US warship arrived at Georgia’s Black Sea port of Batumi to conduct exercises with the Georgia coast guard, in what is the latest of a series of calls with the country that has angered Russia, according to AFP reports.

The USS Philippine Sea, a guided missile cruiser, will be running through a regularly scheduled combined training exercises with the Georgian Coast Guard, says the US embassy in Tbilisi. They added that this visit continues the US 6th Fleet effort to strengthen global maritime partnerships with nations of the Black Sea, as well as improving the maritime safety, stability and security of those countries.

The C-2 Greyhound, a derivative of the E-2 Hawkeye, shares wings and power plants with the E-2 Hawkeye, but has a widened fuselage with a rear loading ramp. The first of two prototypes flew in 1964 and production began the following year. It replaced the piston-engined C-1 Trader in the COD role. The original C-2A aircraft were overhauled to extend their operational life in 1973.

In 1984, the Navy ordered 39 new C-2A aircraft to replace older airframes. Dubbed the Reprocured C-2A (C-2A(R)) due to the similarity to the original, the new aircraft has airframe improvements and better avionics. The older C-2As were phased out in 1987, and the last of the new models was delivered in 1990.

An aggressor squadron is a squadron that is trained to act as an opposing force in military wargames. Aggressor squadrons use enemy tactics, techniques, and procedures to give a realistic simulation of air combat (as opposed to training against one's own forces). Since it is impractical to use actual enemy aircraft and equipment, surrogate aircraft are used to emulate potential adversaries. The US Navy and Marine Corps use the term "Adversary" to describe their similar squadrons. The first formal use of dissimilar aircraft for training was in 1968 by the Navy Fighter Weapons School (better known as "TOPGUN"), which used the A-4 Skyhawk to simulate the performance of the MiG-17. The success of formalized Dissimilar air combat training (DACT) led to transition of Navy Instrument Training Squadrons equipped with the A-4 into Adversary Squadrons at each master[clarification needed] jet base. Portsmouth-based HMS Daring, which is said to be the most advanced warship in the world, is now ready for action.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the Type 45 Class air defence destroyer could officially start to play a "key role" in operations around the world.
Since arriving at its home base last year, the ship has undertaken months of intensive sea trials.
Daring will undergo further operational training in preparation for its first operational deployment next year.
