As a fan of video games, it’s weird to think that the biggest scandal to hit the videogame industry happened 5 years ago. Grand Theft Auto’s “hot coffee” code created an uproar of how much, if any, sexual content was appropriate for a video game. 1up.com had an interesting story looking at the fallout in the years since.

Worst movie of 2010

Some people apparently want to start the next decade as soon as possible. Some have even gone so far as to offer a mid-year worst movies list for 2010. Now, the author did add the tag “so far” to his article, but he seems to really be interested in getting this year done. So, my question, is how appropos are his selections? Anyone go see some bad movies this year?

How starved are we for entertainment and original stories that we’re making movies examining the origins of a social network site. Facebook is extremely popular, but does it really need an origin movie? I can’t begin to imagine how they will make this interesting.

Warner staying retired

Unlike some players in the NFL, who can’t seem to grasp the concept of retiring, Kurt Warner is holding firm to his decision to retire from football. Warner retired after the Super Bowl loss and during this week’s exhibition game, styaed true to that decision despite pleas from Arizona fans to reconsider. Finally, a quarterback who makes a decision and sticks with it.

Guitar Hero

I’m a saxophone player and only mildly interested in the whole Guitar Hero video game series. I do enjoy some of the band oriented games, but here’s my thing. The guys who put together the tracklist have a really odd view of what are good songs. I think the way to go is to have cheaper games (the graphics aren’t the real selling point anyway) and have more that are themed around particular bands. My first choice would be Me First and the Gimmee Gimmees.

Sammy Sosa’s number

It’s been a long time since Sammy Sosa played baseball, but he recently has emerged to discuss his displeasure over the Cubs organization on retiring his number. Unlike the Hall of Fame, individual franchises have direct control over retiring numbers. And franchises don’t have to have too much justification for retiring or not retiring a number. Sammy mmay have decent statistics, but his later years are marred with corked bats and alleged steroid use. I don’t blame the Cubs for their decision to keep 21 in the roster.

Jedi lawsuit

This is the first time I’ve heard of this happening. George Lucas is usually pretty laid back with the populace referencing his famous Star Wars characters and elements. But his corporation has filed a lawsuit against a company that is marketing technology that is supposed to work using brain waves. If the tech doesn’t work, I can understand why Lucas would sue.

Halls of Fame

Someone is in a tizzy over an Iowa town calling itself the Video Game Capital of the World and opening a video game hall of fame. The town has a legitimate claim since this place is the first to keep track of high scores for various video and pinball games. So, why not let them have their title and hall?
