Superhumanoids - Geri

I wonder if this song is about Spice Girls’ member ~~Posh Spice~~ Ginger Spice aka Geri Halliwell. Just hear me out… it’s got this fluttering synth-pop sensibility and a glimmery chorus that draws you in like Geri Halliwell’s eyes. There is also this conversation that seems to happen between the male and female vocalists of an ending relationship much like the possible conversation that Geri probably as with herself about breaking away from being known as one of the Spice Girls and transitioning to a solo career. Yeah, I know it’s a huge stretch… really I should probably of referenced M83 and early-80s new wave group Human League.

This new song comes from Superhumanoids fourthcoming LP Exhibitionists.

Monster Rally & RUMTUMS - Tribes

On my way into work I got a text from a good buddy, saying “I wonder what water splashes would sound like cut and laid on a beat.” I thought for a minute and in my head I figured [stupidly] that it would probably be shallow, in terms of sound depth. Well in a crazy coincidence Ted aka Monster Rally shot this over my way yesterday. Further proving why (1) I share music vs pursuing it and (2) how I lack creativity sometimes.

This collab EP comes out on March 13th via Waaga.

Dune Rats - Pogo

These awesome Aussies keep it fun. Not that cheesy fun, but that pizza-and-babes-infused-fun that you talk about for weeks after. Those stories that always start and end with “Remember that night with Dune Rats?” and there is a collective “Yeah.”

They’ve got two super fun fairly short EPs up on their bandcamp which I suggest you mosey on over too. They tumbl’ too.

Fan of Holiday Shores and/or Dent May? May I highly suggest you give these Brooklynites a listen. They have that same light psychedelia, boucey and somewhat tropical vibe to them. I don’t want this to deter you from listening but they’ve got this Latin-casino-lounge-band sound to them

While this may turn the noses up of many I suggest you point your nose down take away any preconceived notions of a band that I may say has a Lounge sound to them and listen to these dudes.

They have a new video out for this song and a 7” with this track on the b-side.

Now. This may or may not be new to you, but the reason I share this with you is I just had an “Oh snap!” moment. You know, that moment where you rediscover something. That happened to me this morning with Beach Fossil’s long-haired guitarist Z. Cole Smith’s side project Dive. Keeping with the same spirit of the lazy jingle-jangle and kraut rock Cole brings the feverish head bobs as if you are listening to shoegaze in a cathedral.

You can pick up his 7” from Captured Tracks and keep an eye out for the impending EP due out early March. If you also get a chance check out Teen Daze’s remix of this track.

This will be my last post for an indefinite amount of time, it may be a couple weeks or a couple months. I don’t know. I need to take a break from blogging. Recharge the batteries. It also feels like a chore and I hate that. It’s unfair to you because I feel like the quality isn’t quite up to snuff. I could give you a laundry list of reasons to why I need this break but I won’t waste the words.

I need to ask myself why do I do this?
