I love the way Google tries to protect you in chrome. It will give you a nice big red screen to say do not go here…. Its dangerous…. We found malicious code on the website. All of the good things to get the normal end user running for the hills. It just so happens they once picked up that I had an iframe injected into this blog and they removed the flow of traffic for a while.

Google Cheating?

Not everything is as it seems though…..

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=google.com

Obviously we can all be a sucker at some point

What do we find on this page that is alarming…..

14 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent.

Malicious software includes 231 trojan(s), 68 exploit(s), 13 worm(s).

Successful infection resulted in an average of 13 new process(es) on the target machine.

Malicious software is hosted on 23 domain(s), including viralblog.com/, workwithyourbrain.com/, oblik2day.com/.

13 domain(s) appear to be functioning as intermediaries for distributing malware to visitors of this site, including clicksor.com/, truelovexcsarnoff.blogspot.com/, googletubes.blogspot.com/.

Pretty scary stuff right considering you were just searching on Google.

How about this for a closing thought….

Why when I visited Google I never got the big red stop this is a dangerous webpage? Surely 231 trojan’s constitutes dangerous? Is this another example of Google Cheating it’s systems to suit itself?

It dawned on me a month or so ago that if I wanted to get an insane amount of traffic I would want to target a keyword that is typed into a browser address bar millions of time a day. I ran through a few options:

Maps

Bing

Facebook

Google

Keyword Research

Then I did some research on those keywords, I was absolutely amazed at what I found. Obviously there were millions of searches but to my amazement hardly any competition:

What is the reason for so little competition on these keywords?

What the hell am I doing?

Just for a bit of a laugh really, I decided if I could dominate Google with the keyword Google using this relatively cheap, new, small blog for the keyword Google I would be a very happy man. I would be learning so much about what works and what doesn’t it would help my career progression no end. I only really started targeting keywords a few months ago and I thought this would be a great challenge. It seems as though it is going to be possible, here is a screenshot of my webmaster tools – your site on the web – search queries:

So here we have the statistics from webmaster tools, early stages but progress is being made

The plan for this site is to see if Google is manipulating the SERPS as I read so much of this hype and to be frank I don’t believe it.

Why would Google want to risk their entire business model to earn a few extra bucks, its not as if they are pushing the profit / loss line very hard is it.

So the only way I could think to prove Google’s innocence was to legitimately try and rank against them on their own system with their own keyword. Maybe its a bit cheeky, maybe its a stupid idea but imagine if I could keep this blog going, get natural back links to this project – theoretically I could rank number 1 for the keyword Google on Google. I am not for one second here thinking that is actually going to be possible, I am more interested in the theory…

However…. All that being said the screenshot to your left is actually showing that in theory its going to work

I just need to get ticked over onto the first page of the SERPS to get some traction to this experiment.

I am not undertaking any questionable SEO techniques, all I want to do is make the project aware to some people that might be interested in how to dominate Google with the keyword Google. I will keep trying, keep posting to make it to page 1.

I would really like to understand a little information about how people arrive on this page, so I would be very grateful if you left a comment with your interests / profession. As I see it I will get 2 types of visitors to this post:

SEO interested people

People actually looking for Google

Thanks for reading, subscribe me to stay up to date on the project. I am looking to write 1 – 2 posts a week on the subject / progress. You won’t be spammed with nonsense posts I promise.

The question on everyone’s lips / analytic minds is what in gods name is google ad services pagead aclk? Here at Headsure we thought [...]

The question on everyone’s lips / analytic minds is what in gods name is google ad services pagead aclk?

Here at Headsure we thought we would do the research and clump it all here so you don’t have to trawl the web. So lets get straight to it.

So it seems that Google made a change and didnt really publisce it very well. Alot of my friends and collegues have been asking what are google.com/aclk referrers. After doing plenty of research on the topic you can still find the orginal keyword that was used to trigger your ad or serp result. Its just a little deeper inside the referring URL than most people are used too. So what we have done below is take a URL from a paid ad that showed up in a google search result (we have modified the parameters so this is not a real link, and we have removed the actual URL to protect the advertiser).

Striping the URL to get google ad services pagead aclk

The original keyword used to find this ad was “mortgage”

Here is the full URL we would have used to click the ad:

http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=CiYM8O*************MB0dSrhhy7lI4IEAMoCFDOmKCQ-_____8BYLuuwoPQCqABnc2x_gPIAQ************gsrkQFb9zKipv1Qp62qStFoh&num=6&sig=AOD64_************mG7ISbLjDg&ved=0**EQ0Qw&adurl=https://www.********.co.uk/la/1/?keyword=mortgage&gcrid=74*******65&rt=v&rate=1.99

*Asterisks replace alpha numeric characters to protect Google its advertiser

So here we have the breakdown of google ad services pagead aclk

1) http://www.google.com/aclk?

Stage one here is just a page that actually has nothing on it, behind the scenes however a lot is going on:

The user clicks an ad

All of the information in those long codes all relate back to a tracking mechanism

Your IP, User agent, Screen Resolution, Operating System plus ANY cookie Google has placed on you machine is read

Google decides algorithmically if you are a genuine person

Google predicts if you are likely to convert for its advertiser

Google runs your information through highly complex artificial intelligence systems to detect click fraud

Then after it has stored all of your information, placed another couple of tracking cookies you are 301 redirected to the advertisers destination URL

2) sa=l&ai=CiYM8O******* TRUNCATED ******mG7ISbLjDg&ved=0**EQ0Qw

I am affraid not even the smartest of Google employees could tell you what this actually means, its just a very long unique charater string that relates bax to a Google database somewhere. In this database I am sure it is linked to a million other things and I am 100% positive that my mind would explode with the amount of information they store

3) &num=6

This is pretty straight forward, the advertiser is position 6 in the sponsored results. Used mainly to calculate your average position and entice you to bid higher :)

4) &adurl=https://www.********.co.uk/la/1/?keyword=mortgage&gcrid=74*******65&rt=v&rate=1.99

This is the destination URL or the landing page the advertiser has entered into the adwords system, its quite an interesting URL so lets explore these aspects very carefully

https – This tells us that you are being redirected to a secure / encrypted website using a secure protocol. Don’t take this as it is though you should always check the SSL certificate and ensure you get a padlock in your browser

www.*******.co.uk – This is the URL of the advertiser

/la/1/ – This shows me that this advertiser knows what they are doing. I am guessing here but /la stands for landing page and /1 means version 1. I would fully expect this advertiser to be trailing multiple landing pages and tracking the conversions of each one. Adwords is very helpful in this area, if you use its conversion tracking system it will actually display your converting ads more regularly therfore sending people to the super converting landing page (Isn’t Google Wonderful).

keyword=mortgage – This keyword (mortgage) has been dynamically inserted into the URL, again this allows the advertiser to track conversions based upon the keyword, thus negative matching or just removing non converting keywords

gcrid – This is likely to map back to a database inside the Advertisers database. It is not something used or provided by Google

&rt=v&rate=1.99 – Mortgage related terms and thus provided by the advertiser

So in conclusion to What is google ad services pagead aclk?

Its all about tracking, tracking and more tracking. The more Google tracks the more its combats click fraud, provides features for its advertisers and allows smart people to analyse the data to come up with more ingenious ways to enhance its offering. We are slowly starting to see at random similar style metrics / url options inside the SERPS. This has a great deal to do with webmaster tools, this arm of the Google machine is providing all of the search metrics for you to basically compete with other SERP results. There are a few new parameters in there which I hope to tackle at a later date.

Thats the answer to google ad services pagead aclk

Microsoft (msft) and Skype are one. Well, Skype actually isn’t alone in this world any more, anyway. Even while this deal was publicized months back, there has been a lot of work in the time being to ensure all the legal aspects were ironed out. Now, Microsoft (msft) has closed its purchase of Skype, locking in an $8.5 billion payment that was led by investor group Silver Lake. According to the businesses, Microsoft and Skype will remain focused on their joint goal of connecting all individuals across all devices and accelerating both companies’ efforts to transform real-time communication for people and enterprise subscribers.

The finalization of the acquisition also marks the official intro of Skype as a new business division within Microsoft. Skype Chief Executive Officer Tony Bates will adopt the title of ceo of the Skype Division of Microsoft immediately, reporting directly to Ballmer (CEO Microsoft). The Skype division will continue to offer its current products to millions of users around the globe. Longer term, Skype will also be incorporated across a selection of Microsoft (msft) products to diversify Skype’s reach and increase its advancement as a standard way people communicate on the net.

Skype staff members will continue to be situated around the world in offices including Estonia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States.

Here at headsure we hope the Skype employees are well looked after. Its been seen before that when Microsoft acquires a company, sometimes things dont pan out to well for the acquired.

When thinking about SEO, do you only take into consideration Google or are you still looking at Bing?

Most people still regard Google as the only place to keyword research, the only search engine to worry about but Bing is closing in. There is a vast amount of traffic available and arguably its easier to compete for the high net worth search terms at bing. Then after all this is said and done…. how do you use Facebook? Surely these guys are going to make a play for search traffic.

What has Bing (Microsoft) done to compete with Google?

Bing is proping up the facebook listings

Bing (Microsoft) seems to be getting tighter with Facebook, if you perform a search inside facebook you will see the usual. Names, Posts, Groups and now you will also see search results from Bing. A smart move for Bing surely. Facebook is the *current* undisputed king of the social space, it is the *current* powerplayer holding most of the cards. With great power come great responsibility a wise arachnid uncle once said. It was probably inevitable with Googles launch of “plus” that facebook and bing have almost been forced in to a relationship. It will be interesting to see how deep this relationship will go….

Cue Skype…. Microsoft practically own the internet telephony giant now and facebook have been promising some skype style integration for a very long time. So has Skype become a love child of the two giants? Or is it a love triangle that will eventually end up tears.

Back on topic…..

Bing has declared that it is reworking its search algo’s to integrate with the data available at facebook. In a statement released by Microsoft they said the following -

“The best decisions are not just fuelled by facts, they require the opinions and emotions of your friends. Search is now more than a fact finder – [In this update] marrying fact-based search results with your friends’ street smarts to combine the best data on the Web with the opinions of the people you trust the most and the collective IQ of the Web.”

So what might we see in the future:

The “Likes”, you will see realtime search results showing sites appropriate to your keyword. Friends that also have “Liked” a search result with tell you they liked it. Thinking about myself really, if one of my friends has effectively endorsed the proposed result in bing I am more likely to click it. Google have also installed a similar feature with the “Plus 1″ or “+1″ depending on how you like it.

Results tailored by your hobbies, your interests, your friends.

You will see latest news, special offers etc. from compainies facebook pages. For example if you search for “DVD Player” you may get a result in the list from “Sony”, then next to it you might have the latest information available from its “page” at facebook.

So we see the social, we hear the skype, what else is happening?

It pretty much common knowledge that Google has made a lot of its fortune from selling advertisements. Microsoft just last year teamed up with Yahoo to deliver an advertisement rich “search alliance”. Early signs are encouraging for this joint venture. Yahoo has a very large partner network and Microsoft have all of the dollars needed to bring its platform “AdCenter” upto scratch (it has a very long way to go before its anywhere close to AdWords from Google, however Microsoft is a software superhouse less we forget).

In conclusion, what does the future hold?

Well one thing is for sure, we are going to see all out internet war. Corporate giants taking swipes, Megatron Vs Optimus. Who do I back? You can never count google out, I actually think they will be the first company to have an office on the moon. I just think that the strategic partnerships of Yahoo, Microsoft, Skype and Facebook may well be too strong once it gets going. For this round at least.

I am now trying to add a new image:

I am now trying to move the same image above to the right hand side. I am also trying to float the image so that this text in this paragraph wraps around. To do this I have to have enough text so it does it correctly. I am therefore going to write these rambling words just to fill up space in this post.

Bing is fast emerging as the new buzzword in internet. This search engine from Microsoft has found favors with a large number of internet users, which has contributed to its popularity as a major search engine of all times. The search engine was launched by Steve Ballmer Microsoft CEO in May, 2009 in San Diego at the ATD conference. In June, 2009 it went online; and since then it has received tremendous response from users across the world. The search engine has also earned a few nicknames; most notable among them is because its not google.

Formerly MSN Search, Live Search and Window Live Search, the search engine has gone through several notable changes and presented itself in a completely new look. While some people may perceive it as old wine in new bottle, Bing is a lot more than what it might seem. Prominent changes include listing search suggestion as query is entered as well as list of the related searches based on the semantic technology that was purchased by Microsoft in 2008. Another feather in the cap was added in July, 2009,when Microsoft entered a deal with Yahoo!, whereby, Yahoo! Search would be powered by Bing.

Bing or if you might say because its not google boasts of several interesting features, such as daily change in the background image and Sub links. As it is, the images mostly consist of pictures of famous places across the world, although it may at times display people, animals, or sports. Apart from that, the background images also contain information in regard to the element(s) displayed in the images. It also features a navigation pane on the left side, which includes navigation as well as, prior searches and related searches on the results pages. You also have an extended preview on the right side that displays a broader view of pages and gives the URLs to the links in thepage. The sublinks feature on the other hand displays section links in the articles in some search results. Also in case of certain sites, the customer care service numbers would be displayed in the results. One can also view third party website information inside Bing. This gives you an enhanced view.

The search engine also boasts of several media features as well. One of the most interesting features in this regard is the Videos thumbnail Preview wherein, a video startsplaying automatically when the cursor hovers over the video thumbnail. Moreover, the images search with constant scrolling image results page has modifiable settings for color, layout, size, style as well as people. Videos search with modifiable settings for screen size, length, resolution as well as source happens to be another interesting feature. All these features make watching videos a truly wonderful experience. It further saves your time as well as efforts.

Many people may find the instant answers features to be the most useful among all other features. If you are a sports freak, then Bing is the place to visit. It can directly show scores of a specific game, recent scores of leagues, as well as scores or statistics of players or teams. Similarly, people involved in the financial sector, especially stock market investors should also find these features quite interesting. While entering a stock symbol or company name and quote or stock in search box, direct stocks information such as stock charts, prices, p/e ratio and volume is shown in the web-slice which users may subscribe to. For exporters or importers, the package tracking or tracing feature can be very useful.

With its help you can get tracking information directly, by entering thename or other details of shipping company, such as tracking number.
One can also do math calculations as well. All that you need to do is, to enter the math expressions into the search box, with the help of the math operators or trigonometric functions, and within no time, you will get the direct calculations of the expressions. This includes advanced and complex computations as well. You can also make use of the dictionary feature to improve your vocabulary or just knowing the meaning of aparticular word. The spell check feature can also be very helpful in this regard. Bestmatch, Product shopping, Bing cashback, Health information, Flight tracking and Translate are some other interesting instant answers features of because its not google.

Along with that, you can get a lot of local info as well, such as Current traffic data,Business listings, People listings, Collections, Restaurant reviews, City hotel listing, as well as movies that are played in a particular area. Now, if you are a movie buff, then this feature could be very appealing to you. All you need to do is to enter a movie titleand you would get information in regard to the various local theaters, where the moviethe movie is being shown. Moreover, Bing is also integrated with Hotmail and Facebook, which is another major feature.

So, start using Bing and get an amazing searching experience. Why? Simple; because its not google.
