What is omega 3 good for?…The importance of Omega 3 (EPA & DHA) were first discovered when scientist observed the Eskimos of northern Canada and Greenland consume a traditional diet of fish and seal blubber, yet hardly suffer from coronary heart disease despite their high fat diet. Today, there over 5,000 scientific papers have been publishing on the benefit of omega 3 in reputable international medical journals. Omega 3 can be obtained mainly from important coldwater deep-sea fishes like salmon, sprat, herring and tuna. However, the rising levels of heavy metals, mercury, dioxins, PCB and other contaminations in such fishes are worrying as these contaminations are toxins to the body and may have affect the nervous system. Supplementing with a safe and reliable source of deep sea Omega 3 that has been purified using molecular distillation eliminates that risk of poisoning, while ensuring sufficient supplies of Omega 3.

Omega 3 is good for..

Promotes cardiovascular health.

Omega 3 remarkable reduces serum LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides, while rising HDL “good” cholesterol. It also reduces the build up of cholesterol laden plaque in arteries and promotes smoother, healthier and more elastic blood vessels. Clinical studies have proven that Omega 3 helps to lessen the risk of blood clots forming within a blood vessel or artery, which can result in a fatal heart attack or stroke. Studies shown that survival of first heart attack can avoid having a second one and improve their chance of long term survival by supplementing with fish oils. Omega 3 also reduces the risk of sudden cardiac arrest by lowering the pulse rate.

Relieves Aching Joints.

Omega 3’s anti-inflammatory actions help to reduce pain and swelling and relieve discomfort in arthritic joints hence allowing greater freedom of movement. Clinical studies reported decreased morning stiffness, fewer tender and swollen joints, less fatigue, and less use of painkillers following regular intake of Omega 3. But at least 12 weeks of supplementing were needed before the benefits were felt. Researches have also found that supplementing with omega 3 helps the heeling of ligament injuries by speeding up collagen synthesis and enhancing the entry of new cells into the wound area.

Elevates Mood, Improve memory.

DHA is the building block of human brain tissue. It is crucial for the fluidity of the cell membranes and improving their “gate-keeping” abilities which allow the efficient flow of information in and out of the brain cells. Studies have shown that the brain activity actually increases within 2 hours upon consuming a DHA supplement. Hence DHA is essential for students and adults who use a lot of their brain. DHA also been shown to slow down mental decline in adults. Scientist has shown that pregnant woman who take DHA supplements during pregnancy give birth to smarter babies. Not only does DHA boost learning abilities, memory and concentration, it also greatly enhances the mood, promotes calmness and improves one’s response to cope with stress. Low DHA intake has also been linked to attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and low IQ’s, while deficiency causes brain degeneration, and also is a major factor in Alzheimer’s disease. (Characterized by severe premature memory loss).

Relieves Asthma & Allergies.

Omega 3 has been found to protect against symptoms of asthma, hay fever, sinus infections, food allergies and allergic skin conditions such as hives and eczema. Studies shown that mother who takes Omega 3 during pregnancy may protect their babies against the development of allergies. Numerous other studies have also reduced airway inflammation and responsiveness. This prevents an asthmas attack or reduces its severity and children who regularly ate fresh, oily fish containing Omega 3 were four times less likely to develop asthmas.

Alleviates Migraine Headaches.

Clinical studies indicate that Omega 3 helps to inhibit the production of bad
prostaglandins that promote pain and inflammation. It also improves blood flow to the brain by making the blood less sticky. This reduces the frequency severity and duration of migraine headaches.

Improves Vision.

Reading and working on the computer put a tremendous strain on our eyes. DHA is found in high concentration (50-60%) in the retina and is important for proper retinal function and healthy optic nerves. Studies now have confirmed that DHA improves the vision and protects against failing eyesight and degenerative eye diseases (retinitis pigmentosa, AMD or age related macular degeneration) in the elderly. Other problem that may be alleviated with DHA includes dry eyes, sensitive eyes, tired eyes and night blindness.

Reduce The risk Of Cancer.

Omega 3 has shown a protective role a reducing the risk of breast and prostate cancer. Studies also revealed that Omega 3 also protects against colorectal cancer.

Aids Weight loss & reduces water retention.

Contrary to popular belief that oils are fattening, studies shown Omega 3 oils help to reduce body weight and fat bulges by increasing the metabolic rate, accelerating the burning fat and reducing water retention.

The researchers speculate the presence of methyl mercury could have caused the problems. The fish oil should undergo advance molecular distillation to remove the presence of ocean contaminants.

There are three grades of fish oils
1) Cod Liver Oil
2)Health Food Grade Fish Oil.
3)Pharmaceutical grade fish oil.

What distinguishes one from another is the purity of the oil.

Liver Fish Oil.

Contain PCB’s, dioxin or mercury

Cause gastric upset including nausea

High saturated in fat content.

Strong taste of dead fish because of impurities.

High in dosage can cause the high level in Vitamin A.

Health Food Grade fish Oil.

May contain man made pollutants such as PCB’s, dioxin and mercury.

Limited molecular distillation.

Cause gastric.

High content in saturates d fat.

Contain oxidized free-radical generating lipids that can’t be tasted.

So choose your fish oil (omega 3) with pharmaceutical grade fish oil and approved by FDA.

Beneficial bacteria formula is uniquely derived from locally cultured human species. The common species that inhabit specific areas of our gut are then selected and cultured. As they were cultured, the selected species are stronger and sturdier. By unique gene technology, the bacteria will be resistant to acids and other elements in our diet like chilly and spices. The live bacteria are freeze dried.

Then they are formulated with a non diary creamer that will dilute the stomach acid and protect the bacteria as they become viable. We further add lactose as thus is the food of bacteria ( they are called lactobacillus).

Our germs are unique to us. They have adapted to our diet, water and weather. All these are unique. Our diet is high in chilly and spice. Our water contains both chlorine and fluorine. That is why you would get diarrhoea if you drank the water while in 3rd world country. We are not talking about computers, cars or pens. These are live bacteria that are going to reside in our guts and serve us. They are unique to us.

These harmful bacteria are know as pathogenic bacteria. They compete with the good bacteria for living space and food. They generally win if their numbers are large. They may also release toxic substance. This may cause many of the friendly bacteria to die off. They cause problems of digestion, bloating and constipation. They also cause gas formation and flatulence. They come mostly from your food and drinks, especially when these are stale and contaminated. That is why eating stale and contaminated food can give you a bad case of diarrhoea. Over time if your intake of the good bacteria drops and coupled with the fact that you have been exposed to antibiotics, toxins and stress, this tips the balanced strongly in favour of the bad bacteria.

There are several things that makes bad bacteria be more function in your stomach rather than beneficial bacteria:

The level of local acidity is one major influence and this is affected by your diet and digestive function and most importantly by increase in stress factors.

Another important influence is the wave, like contraction of the intestines. If it is too rapid (as in diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome or colitis) this several reduces the efficiency of the flora. If it is too slow ( as in atonics or spastic constipation) this too cause changes in their function.

The type of diet you eat is a major influence on bacterial health. They are healthier on a diet rich in complex carbohydrates (vegetables, whole grains, pulses) and low in animal fats, fatty meats and sugars. They also love cultured dairy products (especially “live” yogurts and cottage cheese). So not surprisingly the diet that is good for you is also ideal for them.

They are also influenced to a major extent by the degree of infection by yeast and bacteria to which “their” territory (bowels) is subjected.

They are severely upset by certain drugs especially antibiotics (antibiotics will kill all bacteria, friendly and disease causing bacteria)

Steroids (hormonal drugs as cortisone, ACTH, prednisolone or oral contraceptives) also cause great damage to the bowel flora.

Advance in microbial biotechnology have made it possible for us to selective culture life promoting beneficial bacteria. Years of research and development effort have made it possible for us to come up with stronger and studier strains that can better survive the gut. You can now take beneficial bacteria supplements.

Among the most important of their proven roles are some functions which help maintain our good health, while others have a definite value in helping us regain health once this has been upset. These dual roles (protective and therapeutic) help explain why the word “probiotics” was coined since it means “for life”

They manufacture some of the B vitamins including niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folic acid and biotin.

They manufacture the milk digesting enzyme lactase, which helps you digest calcium rich diary products.

They actively produce anti bacterial substances that kill or deactivate hostile disease causing bacteria. They do this by changing the local levels of acidity or by depriving pathogenic bacteria of their nutrients or by actually their own antibiotics substances which can kill invading bacteria, viruses and yeast. Naturally enough they are doing this to preserve “their” territory.

Some (such as the bifidobacteria and acidophilus) have been shown to have powerful anticarcinogenic features which are active against certain tumors.

They improve the efficiency of the digestive tract and when they are weakened, bowel function is poor.

They effectively help to reduce cholesterol levels when this is high.

They play an important part of the development of a baby’s digestive function and immune system.

They help protect against radiation damage as well as deactivating many toxic pollutants.

They help to recycle estrogen which reduce the likelihood of menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis.

Therapeautically they have been shown to be useful in treatment of acne, eczema, allergies, migraine, gout, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, cystitis, candidasis, colitis and irritable bowel syndrome and some forms of cancer.

Probiotics is a term derived from two Greek words “pro” and “biotic”which means “for life”. The term was popularized by two British scientist, Fuller and Parker in 1974. Probiotics are supplements that contain living beneficial bacteria. When taken, they help restore the balance of the bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. These bacteria are not parasites. They live in your gut on the food that you take and do many good things for you. Examples of probiotics foods are yogurt, lassi and certain types of cheese. All fermented food will have some amounts of probiotics.

This probiotics concept is still rather new. Probiotics is certainly the buzz of the late 1990’s but is going to be even bigger in the new millenium. However, as a practice, it is thousand of years old. Eating sourced milk and derivative products is an integral part of Ayurveda (the 4,000 years old Indian science of traditional healing). Interest in probiotics was sparked at the turn of this century when a European scientist noted that Bulgarians who consume lots of yogurt lived longer. Nobel prize winner, Elie Metchnikoff of the Pasteur Institute, propounded the theory that lactic acid bacteria are beneficial to human health in 1907.

Your gut contains more than one hundred thousand billion bacteria. There are some 400 different species living there. In fact, they would be between 3 to 5 pounds in terms of weight terms. They actually make up to 30 percent of your stools in dry weight terms. These bacteria can be good, bad or neutral.

The beneficial bacteria entered your system in a unique way, you swallowed them as you made your way through your mother’s birth canal. She gave you even more of these beneficial bacteria as she breast fed you in the months that followed. In fact, first milk called colostrum, which tends to be thicker and curd like, is rich source of these beneficial bacteria.

British medical Journal estimated that perhaps 75 percent of most cancers are caused by environmental and lifestyle factors, including exposure to chemicals. Others report estimated that 95 percent of cancer is caused by diet and environmental toxicity.

The following toxins are among the most prevalent in our air, water and food supply.

-PESTICIDES.
Major source: Food (fruits, vegetables and commercially raised meats), bug spray.
Risk: Cancer, Parkinson’s disease, nerve damage, birth defects, blocking the absorption of food nutrients.

-PHTHALATES.
Major source: Plastic wrap, plastic bottles, and plastic food storage containers. All these can leach phthalates into our food.
Risk: Endocrine system damage (phthalates chemically mimic hormones and are particularly dangerous to children.

-VOCs. (Volatile Organic Compounds)
Major source: Drinking water, carpet, paints, deodorants, cleaning fluids, varnishes, cosmetics, dry cleaned clothing, moth repellants, air fresheners.
Risk: Cancer, eye and respiratory tract irritation, headaches, dizziness, visual disorder and memory impairment.

-DIOXINS.
Major source: Animal fats, over 95% of exposure comes from eating commercial animal fats.
Risks: Cancer, reproductive and development disorder, skin rashes, skin discoloration, excessive body hair and mild liver damage.

-HEAVY METALS. (arsenic, mercury, lead, aluminium and cadmium).
Major source: Drinking water, fish, vaccines, pesticides preserved wood, antiperspirant, building materials, dental amalgams and chlorine plants.
Risk: Cancer, neurological disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, decreased production of red and white blood cells, abnormal heart rhythm and damage the blood vessels.

-CHLORINE.
Major source: Household cleaners, drinking water (in small amount), air when living near an industry (such as a paper plant) that uses chlorine in industrial processes.
Risk: Sore throat, coughing, eye and skin irritation, rapid breathing, narrowing of the bronchi, severe eye and skin burns and lung collapse.

These days, when someone wishes us happy birthday, “and many more”, there’s a good chances that will happen. By 2025, there will be more than 800 million people over 65 years of age in the world, two third of them in developing countries.

What kind of old age.

A longer life is much more attractive prospect if it is free of pain and disability. If it isn’t, there’s a danger you may live to a ripe old age and not really have much of a life. Happily, many of the conditions that can interfere with our enjoyment at later life are preventable.

There are many conditions once though to be a natural part of aging that we now know can be prevented or minimized. Many of the diseases associated with aging appear to be caused by free radicals, chemically activated forms of oxygen, which are generated in the body daily. The thing that naturally keeps free radicals in check is antioxidants, which we get from nutrients in food, particularly fresh foods and vegetables.

Osteoporosis symptoms:
Osteoporosis is a crippling disease which weakens the bones. It is most commonly associated with older people. Women especially are effected as oestrogen levels, which drop at menopouse, can cause bones to weaken, often lending to hip fracture.

Seven out of ten women and a significant number of men, aren’t getting the calcium they need to avoid the risk of osteoporosis. By 2050, nearly half of the world’s hip fractures will occur in Asia. Studies have identified Asians as the ethnic group with the lowest calcium intake.

Getting enough calcium to avoid the risk of osteoporosis through your diet can be difficult, a calcium supplement is often recommended for those who are on a low calcium food diet.

Get more on low fat diary foods (with extra calcium), soya bean products, whole grain bread and cereals, fresh fruit and vegetables. Regular weight bearing exercise. Avoid coffee, tea, alcohol, animal fats and eggs.

Arthritis:
Arthritis literally means “fire in the joints”, a description that almost adults who are believed to suffer from the condition understand only too well. The most common form of artritis is osteoarthritis and mostly affects older people. It develops as the cartilage that protects a joint wears away. The result is a painful, sometimes debilitating combination of stiffness and swelling. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory type of arthritis and an auto immune disorder. It occurs when the body replaces damaged tissue with scar tissue. This force within the joints to become narrow, so the bones actually fuse together.

Get more on deep sea fish, avocado, olive oil, linseed oil, leafy vegetables, yellow vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, ginger, wholemeal bread and cereals, brown rice, water, sulphur containing foods such as asparagus, eggs, garlic and onions. Exercise which doesn’t put stress on your joints, swimming is great. Unused joints tend to stiffen. Celery supplements, traditionally used to relieve joint pains. Glucosamine, a supplements that contains the natural component of human cartilage. It enhances the structural integrity of connective tissue.

Take less nightshade vegetables ( tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, capsicum), they contain compounds which can inflame arthritis. Animal, fats, tea, coffee and processed food.
