The chemicals that are in much of the makeup out there can be dangerous to your health. I don’t wear cosmetics (sometimes a bit of after shave lotion), but I do live in a house with women who use cosmetics. My wife and both daughters are extremely health conscious. In the past several months, they’ve scoured the internet looking for makeup that didn’t scare them to death (or, put them to death). It has not been easy.

Ah, but persistence is everything. They found a young lady, Ava Anderson, whose concern over the toxins in her makeup led her to start her own cosmetics company called Ava Anderson Non-Toxic cosmetics. She said:

“I was a typical teenager in 2008 when, at the age of 14, I saw a report with my mom on a study about hazardous chemicals in the bloodstream of teens commonly found in cosmetics and skin care products. The study was performed by the Environmental Working Group (EWG)…. We were both shocked, and I immediately went to my room to begin what would turn into months of research. The more I learned, the more alarmed I became. I started searching for safe products for my family, my friends and myself. After hundreds of hours of research it was apparent that although the market was flooded with “organic”, “natural”, “safe” and “pure”, there were almost always toxic ingredients and chemicals in there, as well, not to mention the ones hidden in the ingredient “fragrance.” I managed to find some “ok stuff” but nothing that was truly non-toxic.”

Ava Anderson turned her research into work products that are non-toxic. They are completely organic. The ladies in my life are estatic!

Thank you, Ava. You’ve done a great service to all mankind…because without ladies like you, we’d (a) not exist, and (b) be paying high dollars for toxic cosmetic products that are going to eventually cost us far, far more than the products themselves cost. I’m an appreciative husband and father.

Hope you make millions off your safe, healthy and organic products.

The Tragic Legacy and disaster of America’s health care system to American Veterans

Tim Lee

“It’s a travesty. The greatness of a nation will be judged by how it treats its veterans.” –Daniel Crocker, Michigan service director for the Veterans of Foreign Wars

Due to my grave concern for this nation’s treatment of its military veterans, please allow me friend to give you a brief composite of our so-called government health care system” as it has impacted me personally. This is not someone else’s story–this is my story. As most of you are aware, on 8 March, 1971, in Quang Nam Province in Vietnam I lost two good legs in a land mine explosion. My left leg measures 3 inches, my right leg measures 10 inches. Had it not been for the forceful intervention of my father I would have undergone a procedure known as a hip-de-articulation, where they completely remove you’re legs and your hips. That would have forced me to lie on my stomach or my back for the rest of my life. It is not that my injuries are more important than any other Marines’ injuries, who served his country, but my injuries were very profound and because they occurred during a time of war, any wounded or severely wounded American soldier has the right to expect his country’s health system to respond accordingly and professionally.

One thing I immediately determined was that I would not set around and feel sorry for myself. In these last 34 years of ministry I have flown well over 3 million miles and traveled another 400,000 miles by vehicle performing the duties of my calling. Never have I desired government hand outs or special treatment of any kind, but I have expected my government to live up to their responsibilities and promises. If we can provide free health-care for non-citizen people who illegally flood our borders every day, then we certainly should be able to expect adequate and professional services to be rendered on behalf of the fighting men and women of our military services! One of the promises almost every president has stated during his campaigning process was that America’s veterans “deserve the best health care possible.” That is both just and fair. All of the politicians of all the major parties have expressed that commitment to America’s military personnel.

Why have they never kept those promises?

There is no judgment being passed on the other major cities of this nation when it comes to veteran health-care, but this American veteran can tell you first hand about the deplorable conditions of veteran health care in the city of Dallas, Texas. The VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas is one of the most comical excuses for a hospital I’ve ever encountered anywhere in the world! As Doug J. Swanson of the Dallas Morning News wrote in 2005, “The Dallas veterans hospital is so dirty, dangerous and poorly managed, federal investigators have found, that it ranks as the WORST (emphasis ours) such medical center in the country.” Mr. Swanson went on to give the inspector general’s report findings by saying “We concluded there was no evidence of planned, collaborative effort to improve organizational performance” in the hospital.*

Please allow me to give you a personal example. Several years ago I developed a serious kidney stone. I thought I was dying. My son rushed me to Baylor Hospital in Garland, TX. They informed me that I had a large irregular shaped kidney stone. When I inquired about the expense of the treatment necessary the answer was 12,000.00! That kind of money wasn’t available in my personal banking account so I went to the VA Hospital in Dallas, expecting to receive “the best health care that America has to offer.”

Because of my extreme pain they administered an injection of pain medicine. Two minutes later another “nurse” entered the room to administer a second “pain shot.” When we asked what that shot was for, the nurse informed us “for pain.” “Ma’am, I was just given a pain shot two minutes ago.” “Well” she snapped, “you’ll be feeling really good then won’t you!” When the necessary x-rays and tests were concluded they informed me that I would be put on a 2-1/2 month “Waiting List”! I asked if I was suppose to be at the top of the list because of my disability rating (which is 100%) and again I was informed rather curtly: “It will be a 2-½ month wait.” That would have been physically impossible. By that time I was experiencing excruciating pain. I could not wait. We had the surgery done at Baylor Medical Center. I was informed that I possibly would be “reimbursed by the VA”. It has been several years and we have yet to receive any “reimbursement.”

After that experience, we acquired secular medical insurance. It was obvious that myself nor any other American veteran could depend on the VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas for proper medical care.

Eight years ago I had 4 stents put in my heart at Baylor medical center. They gave me heavy doses of a very costly blood pressure medicine. It took several months to get it under control. Again, I turned to the VA Hospital for assistance in the high cost of this medicine. I was required to see a “heart specialist” at the VA hospital in Dallas. I was assigned to “Dr Root.” As I entered her office, she made absolutely no acknowledgement as to my presence. There was no “hello,” and no greeting of any kind. After a long minute I asked her if she was feeling okay. She glared at me and replied, “That is none of your business!”

I then asked her if it was any of her business that I was a 100% disabled American veteran as the result of war-time injuries. She glared at me a second time and replied “I don’t care if you are 200% disabled”. Without saying another word to this fine “doctor” I rolled out of her office.

This is the best that America has to offer her Veterans?

Years ago when living in Illinois, I had a substantial amount of dental work performed. A private dentist did the work in Mt Vernon, IL and, to their credit, the local VA hospital paid for all of it. They had no qualified dentist to do the work I needed. Thirty years later, that work had to be redone. I went to my personal dentist and was told the expense would be between $25000-$30000. Again, I could not afford that kind of out-of-pocket expense, so I appealed to the VA hospital in Dallas. I attempted to get them to pay my personal dentist to have the work done. They refused stating that they had a dentist in residence that could do the work. After my examination, I was informed that I needed two implants and a procedure called a sinus lift. They did the work. The “dentists” who performed the procedure were young men doing their “student work” with the ultimate goal of becoming private dentists. The implant procedure totally failed and caused me extended problems and multiple complications. The work they performed accomplished absolutely nothing!

They then began working on my crowns. To make a very long complicated story short, for nearly a year I made repeated trips to the VA hospital to have the work completed. When they finished I still needed additional work done on my front teeth. I was forced to go to a private dentist, and was informed that not one of the “crowns” the VA dentists had replaced was done correctly. At the present time, I am still looking at $30,000 worth of dental work to be completed and setting again in a dentist’s chair for multiple hours.

Let me assure you this is not all of the stories that I could write about, neither am I the only veteran who has encountered this kind of arrogance and un-professionalism at the hands of a VA Hospital. Ladies and gentlemen, if the so-called government health-care that this administration is currently proposing is to be administered like this, we don’t need or want it!

On behalf of our American Veterans, on behalf of honesty and integrity, please write or call your congressmen today! Encourage your friends and family to do the same. We must stop this legislation before it goes into effect!

Very kindly let them know that we do not want government forced health care.

Some scientific, peer-reviewed studies exist that indicate there is a very strong connection between diet and cancer. Moreover, this research, funded in part by the American Cancer Society and The American Institute for Cancer Research, and done by medical and research scientists, showed lab results that were truly astonishing. These results have been published in many of the top scientific journals.

But, the sad truth is that these studies have been ignored by the medical world, in general. These studies have not been heralded by the big pharmaceutical companies, nor the medical society. That should not be cause to raise an eyebrow, though. You see, it really comes down to money. Look at it this way: Who stands to benefit most, in terms of dollars and cents, from cancer? Where do most of the dollars go for the treatment of cancer? What disease brings in billions of dollars into the coffers of the major drug manufacturers and the medical community? The doctors are making millions of dollars treating patients with cancer. The drug companies are making billions of dollars supplying the doctors and hospitals with the drugs to treat the patients with cancer.

Surely, we are not so naive as to conclude these people really want a cure for cancer?

I have seen various individuals who were famous, fight their battle against this dreaded disease, and often lose. Don Imus announced that he has cancer. Fortunately, he has a wife who, if he listens to her, might save his life. Not too long ago, I saw an interview by Barbara Walters with Patrick Swayze. He is in currently in a fight for his life with cancer. At one point during the interview, he said ”One thing I’m not gonna do is chase staying alive. You spend so much time chasing staying alive, you won’t live.” It was obvious that was a closed subject, one he’d not explore further. In essence, he was committed to the prescribed treatments. Period. He noted with finality that if there was a cure for cancer, there would be headlines around the world. Truth be told, it would be headlines only if a large pharmaceutical company had the patent rights on the medicine effecting the cure.

Swayze’s cynicism is understandable. And, in a world where big business and the medical society as a whole had the best interest of the patients at heart, his position would probably be true. However, we live in a world of swirling with greed and corruption, and where there are billions of dollars to be made because of cancer, the likelihood of Big Pharma and the medical community truly being motivated for a cure for cancer is highly unlikely. One would have to be truly naive to believe otherwise.

If I could speak with Mr. Swayze, I’d direct him to read the most fascinating book I’ve ever read on the subject. I read this book after I learned my daughter had breast cancer. It’s titled The China Study and was written by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell, II. Some very famous doctors and scientists have spoke very highly about the book. Dr. Neal Barnard, President of the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine said, “The China Study is the account of a ground-breaking research study that provides the answers long sought by physicians, scientists and health conscious readers. Based on painstaking investigations over many years, it unearths surprising answers to the most important nutritional questions of our times: What really causes cancer?…”

The Founder and President of the Preventative Medicine Research Institute Clinical Professor of Medicine, Univ. of California, Dr. Dean Ornish, said of the book and the author, Colin Campbell, “Everyone in the field of nutrition science stands on the shoulders of T. Colin Campbell, who is one of the giants in the field. This is one of the most important books about nutrition every written. Reading it may save your life.”

The former Executive Director of the U.S. Academy of Sciences’ Food and Nutrition Board said this of the book: “The China Study is a well-documented analysis of the fallacies of the modern diet, lifestyle and medicine, and the quick-fix approach that often fails.”

Nobel Prize winner Robert C. Richardson stated, “The China Study is a story that needs to be heard.” Jeff Nelson, President of VegSource.com (the most visited food web site in the world), called Campbell the “Einstein of nutrition,” and said: “The China Study is based on hardcore scientific research, not the rank speculation of a Zone, Atkins, Sugarbusters or any other current fad.”

I read this book as I would if I were studying the testimony of an expert witness in a legal case. I was impressed with the evidence. It was the kind of evidence that would stand the scrutiny of the court room and would hold up under intense cross examination. Actually, it has undergone the most serious scrutiny, i.e., that of peers, of scientists. These studies are peer reviewed. The principles used in the research were unimpeachable.

I’m sad that Mr. Swayze and tens of thousands who think just like him, will not hear this evidence. I’m sad because they have absorbed the corruptions of truth handed out by so many folks standing in white lab coats, or blue suits and red ties, but, not just Big Pharma and many in the medical world, but some on the smarmy side of life. This includes the army of the peddlers of the “latest, greatest cure-everything” diets which have had the effect of making so many people, like Mr. Swayze, skeptical. Their skepticism is understandable. However, that skepticism may one day cost them their lives. That’s the really sad thing.

One of the most powerful observations made in the book involved a study of rats. The results of those experiments shocked even the researchers.

They took a group of rats and injected each of them with a very strong carcinogen (Aflatoxin), so the rats would all would be predisposed to develop cancer. Next, they divided the rats into two groups. One group was fed one diet, the other group a different diet. One group developed cancer, and within 2 years, they all died. The other group never developed cancer and lived a normal life span, in healthy condition.

They got a different group of rats and performed the same experiment, only this time, when cancerous tumors began growing in the bodies of the one group. the researchers switched their diet to the other group, the ones that stayed cancer free. (These were the rats that, although they also had been injected with a carcinogen and were predisposed to get cancer, never did.)

To the astonishment of the researchers, the cancerous tumors began shrinking, eventually went away, and the rats that would otherwise have died from cancer, went on to live normal, healthy lives. (see Chapter 3, Turning Off Cancer, page 61).

However, the real surprise was the discovery of what triggered the cancer in the rats. That was stunning and has enormous implications.
If you know anyone you love who has or has had cancer, you absolute owe it to them to get The China Study in their hands. You just might save their life.
