South Beach Diet Book

Many people confuse the South Beach diet with the Atkins diet. In the first 2 weeks all sugar and carbs are cut out but afterwards, certain "good carbs" can be added. So this diet is much healthier than Atkins. The first two weeks are hard but worth it! Once you get through the first two weeks, the rest is much easier. If you eat a donut, you dont have to scrap your entire diet, just continue. The South Beach diet book will start you on your way. I suggest reading the entire book so that you are informed and understand why the diet is working and how it is healthy.

I have had bladder infections for a long time and the only thing that I have found that really helped me for extended periods of time is cranberry extract. Zantac is low-cost, over-the-counter medication that consumers can buy without a prescription. It is used to treat persistent heartburn and stomach ulcers. Zantac works by decreasing the secretions of stomach acids. When too much stomach acid is produced, some can "leak" out in a retrograde fashion and move into the esophagus, where it can burn the lining of the esphagus and cause the sensation of heartburn. Zantac is also used to treat stomach and esophageal ulcers.

Zantac is as equally effective as Tagamet, another anti-acid medication in the same class as Zantac. Zantac is not as potent as Prilosec or Prevacid, both very srong stomach acid inhibitors. For those with occasional bothersome mild heartburn, Zantac is a good place to start in terms of treatment. It is relatively cheap, and it is effective in controlling mild cases of heartburn. However, in more persistant and serious cases, one may consider taking the more potent (and more costly) Prilosec or Prevacid. The latter two medications generally work in cases where Zantac and Tagamet will not.

Zantac is taken about 30 minutes to an hour before eating foods that commonly cause heartburn. The lead time is essential to decreasing stomach acid output before ingesting food. Zantac can be taken up to twice per day.

Zantac is a good place to start treatment of heartburn. If it does not do the job for you, consider moving on to Prilosec and/or Prevacid.

On vacation in 2004 in Jackson Hole, WY, I slapped the palm of my right hand down on a red-hot (but not red-colored) stove burner in our kitchenette in the log cabin motel one evening. Within seconds, an image of the coil was burned into the palm of my hand and it hurt like heck. I called a hospital emergency room, and the doctor said I might be able to avoid an emergency room visit, but it was a judgment call. He said if I wasn't going to come in, I should look for an aloe product. I decided not to go to the emergency room. I drove to a supermarket in town, my hand wrapped in a wet towel, and found this stuff. I applied it, and it immediately reduced the amount of pain in my hand. After treating my beet-red hand with this Cool Blue Gel for four hours--keeping it about 1/4 inch thick--and periodically blowing on my hand to take away the remaining pain, which was still considerable, I went to sleep. Upon waking, my hand was pain free and a completely normal color---I couldn't even tell it had been burned. All that remained to show me I had had a burn the night before was the white image of the burner coil, which disappeared in a few days.

I can't say enough about this stuff. In my opinion, a bottle should be in every household.

I've had problems with my feet for over two years. I often showed my condition to a neighbor of mine whos occupation is a nurse. She also was looking for something to soften her heels. I had been using theOral B battery toothbrush for a year. It is my 40th birthday and I wanted something to treat myself so I bought this tooth brush. It is the same as the Oral B S-320 but without the massage feature, which is not necassary at all and it was only $79.99 which is the best price for a rechargable toothbrush. I have not had my teeth cleaned in two years (oops) and thought of doing so, but it costs $80 so I decided to try this tooth brush as see if it felt like going to get my teeth cleaned. I really believe it feels just as good as getting my teeth cleaned! It is quite strong and you must get used to the strong vibration inside your mouth, but it is very effective. My teeth felt smooth as glass and I really enjoyed using it. I now feel so invested in my teeth and keeping my mouth healthy that I will go get my teeth cleaned. In the twelve years I was a smoker I honestly believed it would be impossible to stop. I was so in love with smoking that I used to joke that I would quit when I was dead. When I finally decided that I was fed up with cigarettes once and for all (the cost, the stench, the heavy breath, the smoking bans, on and on) I gave this a try. Previously I had attempted to stop twice before, half-heartedly, using the patch and again with some sort of nonsensical herbal concoction. Both a waste of money. They just weren't strong enough for the chain smoker I was. I actually read reviews of the lozenge here and was convinced to try it. So I set my quit date and bought a box. It was a bit of a gamble since they aren't cheap but neither are cigarettes in NJ anymore. Does it work? Oh yeah, it works.

It doesn't just curb the craves it eliminates them. I went from needing two packs of cigarettes a day to having virtually no desire to even look at them anymore. I'm still stunned. They do work and they work magnificently. One thing I like about them, they dissolve very slowly in your mouth which actually helps to alleviate the oral fixation in the absence of a cigarette.

But be warned: Nothing replaces will power. You really need to want to quit. The lozenge is not a magic bullet but if you do decide to quit they are your best weapon. There is, however, a risk of developing an addiction to lozenges so it's incredibly important to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and wean yourself off them according to the schedule provided. 4mg is a very strong shot of nicotine. Also if you swallow them or bite them you'll be treated to some very nasty heartburn and hiccups.

Basically, if you follow the program and reinforce the desire to get rid of the smokes with a support group you WILL quit smoking. Trust me.

I have owned a lot of exercise equipment, and the Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer is a very good machine. Unlike some others I have tried, it has a very smooth action, is quiet, and is easy to use. It's also smaller than several other models I've tested, so it fits nicely in most rooms. Further, because it is lightweight and has two front wheels, it's easy to move.

The assembly instructions are not the best, but I've seen much worse. Regardless, it's pretty obvious where most of the parts go. It took me about one hour to assemble by myself, though it would be easier and quicker with two people.

Recently I moved the machine to a different room and one of the front wheel casings cracked. I don't know if this occurred because of a defect or because I went over a bump too quickly. I called the manufacturer (toll-free number) and received prompt and courteous service. When I bought the machine I registered it online, so my information was quickly found by the company representative. I described what happened and the representative was surprised because it was unusual for a wheel casing to break. Nevertheless, without any trouble he promised to ship me a replacement part free of charge (still under warranty). I called on a Friday afternoon and received the part on the next Tuesday. Changing the part (only one screw) was simple and took about two minutes. It's nice to know that there are still some companies that stand behind their products and provide good service to their customers.

ALTERNATIVES TO SAMBUCOL:
Other products I have tried do combine elderberry extract with zinc, echinacea and Vitamin C, but they don't work nearly as well. The closest to this true Sambucol product comes from "Now", who makes a "Zinc Lozenge" that has all of these elements plus slippery elm, bee propolis, and 2.5 grams of sugar per lozenge. The 2.5 grams of sugar added per lozenge doesn't help one's immunity. Of course some people use herbal combinations with good effect, but Sambucol comes right out of the bottle and is ready to use.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
There really is something special involved in the manner that the elderberry is processed and extracted because no one has equalled the results against the flu virus the Sambucol has. If the flu has infected your household, this is definitely worth trying as there is no known way to simply get rid of the flu that works as well.

After struggling with acid reflux for many years I heard about apple cider vinegar being a natural remedy so I thought I would give it a try. I couldn't believe how well it worked...it completely took away the acid reflux/GERD symptoms. We bought this because the Dr told my wife she needed to lose 50 pounds to ensure her diabetes could be controlled. We went with the TC5000 because it has the heart monitor display built in, and we wanted to ensure we did not over do it.

The machine arrived as scheduled; assembly took about 2 hours (1 bolt missing, but I had a one that fit so was no problem). Instructions are not that clear, but if you use the pictures and think a bit before you tighten something anyone should be able to assemble this (does take two people for a couple of steps).

We watched the DVD and read the operating manual before we ever got on it; neither of us are in too fit so the first week we just went about 20 minutes in treadmill mode every other day. We have continued the every other day routine to ensure our bodies have a day of recovery. 2nd week I started with a 3 minutes of treadmill, 18 minutes of tread climber, and finishing with 3 minutes of tread mill. Wife increased her treadmill time to 25 minutes. Week 3 I am doing 3 minutes of the tread mill, 24 minutes of the tread climber, and 3 minutes of tread mill. Wife is doing 3 minutes of tread mill 15 minutes of tread climber, and 3 minutes of tread mill.

We are both very aware of the importance of keeping our heart rate in the target zone (not too low and not too high) while excercising, the speed control and the heart rate display makes this very easy to do.

Each of us has lost several inches and has experienced modest weight loss, 5 pounds for me, and 7 pounds for her in 3 weeks. Both of us feel much better and so far we each look forward to our exercise day. We have put the Tread climber right in the middle of the living room so we can watch TV, or have a conversation with each other as a routine part of our exercise. This was a very conscious decision our part to ensure it did not become out of sight, out of mind.

I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about increasing their fitness and/or losing weight.

I am a dentist who recommends Sensodyne toothpaste for my patients with sensitive teeth. I give it 5-stars because it has a proven track-record of many years of effectiveness.

The active ingredient in any toothpaste that is advertized as a "desensitizing toothpaste" is potassium nitrate. Potassium nitrate works by plugging the micro dentinal tubules that communicate directly with the pulp (nerve center) of the tooth. Most people have sensitive teeth because of gum recession exposing the root surface, (or thinning enamel) thus exposing the dentinal tubules. If the tubules are touched, exposed to sugar, or cold, fluid moves in the tubule and this is perceived as pain. With repeated exposure, potassium nitrate effectively plugs up the dentinal tubules to lessen or completely eliminate sensitivity.

This toothpaste will not work on teeth with cavities, or teeth with abscesses - it only works on teeth with exposed dentinal tubules.

It is also important to realize that Sensodyne does not work immediately. It takes up to 2-4 weeks of continuous daily exposure for the product to work.

Sensodyne can be used as a "stand-alone" toothpaste, since it has fluoride in it, or it can be used just for sensitive areas.

Finally, the effect of the potassium nitrate will wear off over time, so it is likely one will need to repeat the treatment as sensitivity returns.

This is a great product for those with sensitive teeth.

I'm a girl, so I took One A Day Teen Adavntage for girls, (in the pink package.) This product promises to clear up skin and promote a healty immune system. As a person who is constantly sick, I was very interested in this product.

When I first took it, there was an honest difference in my skin. But after a while, that started to go away and there was no efefct on my skin. This really did help boost my immune system as I didn't get sick for a long time after beginning to use this product.

I used it for two months, and occasionaly when I would take the pill, it would cause my stomach to hurt like no other. It felt as though I was going to vomit and my stomach was going to explode.

I talked to someone about this, and they told me that occured because there is iron in this vitamin and a lot of it because it is made especially for teenage girls. My body would sometimes react badly to it although it would go away in a few hours and wouldn't hurt at all at time. The doctor I spoke to told me to take food before using this vitamin, and while it helped most of the time, I stopped taking it because I couldn't handle the pain. (But personally, I am very sensitivy to pain.)

So overall, great product. But your body may or may not react well to it.

I've been taking Centrum Silver for the last 5 or 6 years. I thought when I purchased these (I bought the 100-count bottle) that they would probably be about the same as regular Centrum Silver with perhaps more Selenium for Prostate health.

Wow, was I wrong! While there are no new ingredients, Centrum has substantially increased the amounts of many of Silver's components. I guess their reasoning is that since this product is targeted at men, and since average body weight for men will be higher than average body weight of men AND women, the dosage of each vitamin and mineral should be higher.

Here are some comparisons (the first number is the old formula):
Vitamin A -- 2500IU vs 3500IU
Vitamin C -- 90mcg vs 120mcg
Vitamin D -- 500mcg vs 600mcg
Vitamin K -- 30mcg vs 60mcg
Vitamin B6 -- 3mg vs 6mg
Vitamin B12 -- 25mcg vs 100mcg
Zinc -- 11mg vs 15mg
Selenium -- 55mcg vs 100mcg
Manganese -- 2.3mg vs 4mg
Lycopene -- 300mcg vs 600mcg
Lutein -- 250mcg vs 300mcg
There are other smaller increases, but the above are the big ones. Interestingly, there are a few reductions:
Phosphorus -- 110mg vs 20mg
Folic Acid -- 400mcg vs 300mcg
Copper -- 0.9mg vs 0.7mg

I suppose these are the components that women require in greater quantity than men.

The tablet itself is the same size horse-pill as before. But now it's pink! Odd choice for men. I wonder what color the women's pill is. Blue?

Whether the new or old formulas make a difference in overall health is hard to say. I use them as a kind of insurance against poor nutrition and because of the *possible* health benefit they *may* confer. Given that, I take on faith that this new formula is superior to the old.

My main meter is a FreeStyle Flash, but I wanted an inexpensive, accurate meter I could keep in my desk drawer. The Ultra Mini, costing anywhere from $25 (list) to $15 (various places online) fills the bill. It's not really "mini", being long and narrow, almost twice the size of my Flash, but it's a lot smaller than many other meters. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, just the basics. No beeps, no computer interface; I don't need that for a backup anyway. What it does well is to give me an accurate reading. The test strips fill up fast, the sample needed is small,and you get readings in about 6 seconds on a nice, large display. I tested it against my Flash, and the readings were very close. (Full disclosure: I don't use the included lancet device, but a Bayer Vaculance that gives me great results when I test on my arm.)

You might want more information from your main meter, but as a desk-drawer convenience, this one is hard to beat.

I don't know what I would do without Advil Gel Caps. These little babies are lifesavers when I get a bad headache. Due to having Scoliosis I get frequent headaches and backaches. Sometimes they get so bad that my head is pounding and can't do anything buy lie down until they are gone. The great thing about the Advil Gel Caps is that they dissolve and go to work quickly. They seem to work much quicker than other over the counter pain relief medicines that I have tried. Mucinex for Kids is an expectorant to be used when a child has a cough. The Active ingredient in Mucinex is Guaifenesin (expectorant).

My son had a cough and his Doctor recommended this product every four hours for his symptoms. I used the adult version (a tablet) of this product with great success. It really helped get a good nights sleep.

I gave my son his first dose and after he drank it down he complained. He said it tastes disgusting. I told him to drink water to get the taste out of his mouth. Four hours later, it was time for another dose. He did not want to take it but gave in.

At this point, I wanted to see how bad it really did taste. UGH!!! What a mistake that was. The artificial grape flavor is so overwhelming, and it is disgustingly sweet. I put the ole readers on and read those tiny little words on the back of the bottle.

There are not one, but two different dyes added, flavor and sugar.

These products are for kids. Why do they have to add all the extra dyes and sugars. My child is not sensitive to dyes or sugar, but he now refuses to take this product because of the taste.

I would not make him continue taking Mucinex for Kids. After a few unsuccessful tries, he was finally able to swallow the tablet version down.

While the product does work really well, I have a hard time recommending it because of the additives. I will advise you to read the label carefully before administering it to your child, or ask your physician for a prescription for a pill.

Used for 2 weeks. Can't use it if you have totally blocked sinus but can be used if you feel cold or allergies coming and you have some airflow. Strange to use at first. Solution comes in through one nostril, rinses sinus cavity, goes out the other nostril. Can see on youtube people demonstrating its use. Little kids don't seem to have problems. Measured out 8 oz. distilled water, microwave 15 seconds, and swirled the water for a few seconds to even the temperature out. Used the included packets and the formula works well. You can make your own but be sure to use pure salt (kosher or pickle) instead of table salt. To make an isotonic (equal to body salinity) solution, use about 1/4 tsp salt, tiny pinch of baking soda, 8 oz of lukewarm distilled water. People on the Internet use a lot of different recipes but this one works for me.

I'm a big girl, and I honestly love this stuff. Before I came across it, I was using baby powder. While baby powder prevents the chafing, it creates too much dust. Further, my skin where I put the powder every day for years became extremely dry, red, and flaky.

Since these past couple of weeks that I've been using Monistat Miracle Gel (my own name for it - it's really a miracle for me), I've become a very happy, more confident woman. I'm no longer self-conscious about powder being in certain places (talk about ruining a mood - baby powder is not a sexy smell! lol), and the skin now looks like regular, healthy skin. I am no longer dried out and red. The gel lasts all day long and all night - I haven't had to reapply it even once! This truly is a gift.

That being said, let's make a push for Monistat to trash their current packaging and put it in bigger tubes!!! Who's with me?? :-D

Getting over an abscess infected with MRSA required a stronger form of antiseptic for preventative measure, to decrease the likelihood of future MRSA infections. This product, purchased here for that purpose works very well as a first aid antibiotic.

I have been using it for about a month now on any breaks of skin near the previously infected area and anything more than minuscule elsewhere on the body. I've found the gel dries and stays on the skin better than any other antiseptics I've tried (neosporin, polysporin, etc.), making a protective barrier. Additionally, wounds on which I've used this product seem to heal a bit faster and cleaner (less visible early after) than anything else I've used. I feel much safer from repeat MRSA infection using StaphAseptic (corny as the name may be...). I'm glad I got this stuff.
