Crock Pot Meal Ingredients
3 to 4 medium onions, sliced
3 medium carrots, peeled and chopped into smallish chunks
1 Tbsp of garlic, minced
3 Tbsp of extra-virgin olive oil
1 tsp of salt, or to taste
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
1 cup of your choice of sweet wine. My preference is pinot grigio
2-3 pounds of beef brisket or chuck, preferably one piece of beef

First you will want to brown the brisket. To do this you will place 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet or pan that can fit the piece of meat. Place on medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, approximately two minutes, add the beef to the skillet. You will want to brown the beef well on both sides and this should take about 10 minutes to do.

Second, season the meat with the salt and pepper. Place all of the vegetables and the beef into your Rival crock pot. Set the slow cooker to high and cook until the meat is tender (Approximately, 4 hours). **If you're going to cook it while you're at work or through the night, set the slow cooker on low. In about 8 or so hours the beef will be tender.

After the beef is cooked and tender, remove it from your slow cooker and rest the meat on a cutting board. It is important that you let the meat rest for up to ten minutes otherwise will risk drying out your meat that you spent hours waiting for it to cook in the crock pot.
Carve up the meat and be sure to save the juices in the crock pot for a sauce topping. Add some healthy sides such as green beans and rice and your taste buds will thank you!
Certain animals can synthesize certain vitamins and all animals needing vitamin D can manufacture it from the presence of U.V. They are essential to life, and with few exceptions can not be made by an animal's body, but must be supplemented in the diet. Vitamins are organic molecules that are necessary for normal metabolism in animals, but either is not synthesized in the body or is synthesized in inadequate quantities. Consequently, they must be obtained from the diet.

Vitamins are responsible for keeping cells strong, binding tissues, fighting infections, etc. Without vitamins our cells would not function properly and thus our organs would suffer and eventually we would no longer be able to survive. Vitamins and minerals are present in the food that we eat everyday in varying degrees depending on the type of food. Different types of foods give different types of vitamins. Vitamins regulate metabolism, help convert fat and carbohydrates into energy, and assist in forming bone and tissue.

Vitamins are classified as either water -soluble, meaning that they dissolve easily in water, or fat-soluble vitamins, which are absorbed through the intestinal tract with the help of lipids (which are essentially fats). In general, water-soluble vitamins are readily excreted from the body. Vitamins are organic substances that are essential for the proper growth and functioning of the body. Unlike protein, fat, and carbohydrates, vitamins provide no calories. While these molecules serve essentially the same role in all forms of life, higher organisms have lost the ability to synthesize vitamins.

Vitamins are organic molecules that function in a wide variety of capacities within the body. The most prominent function of the vitamins is to serve as cofactors for enzymatic reactions. Vitamins and minerals have a unique role to play in maintaining your health. For example Vitamin D helps your body absorb the amount of calcium (a mineral) it needs to form strong bones.

Vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, and folic acid are vital for proper fetal growth, development and healthy adult living. Vitamins and minerals boost the immune system; support normal growth and development, and help cells and organs do their jobs. For example, you've probably heard that carrots are good for your eyes. Your body uses these substances to stay healthy and support its many functions.

Vitamins are a vital part of a healthy diet. The RDA (recommended dietary allowance), which are the amounts healthy people need each day to remain healthy—has been determined for most vitamins. By enhancing your diet with vitamins or vitamin enriched foods such as vegetables, you will ensure that you are not deficient and have potential health side affects as a result.

History of Protein Bars

A protein bar in the past, tended to be marketed towards weight lifters who needed the extra protein for building strong muscles. Protein bars have gone main stream. No longer found solely in the bottom of bodybuilders’ gym bags, protein bars are now turning up in airplane snack carts, in gas stations, vending machines, party-stores, and even people’s desk drawer at the office.

The bars serve as a great snack or meal replacement. For some added protein, extra-energy or to help you fulfill your dieting needs these great protein bars come in all different shapes, sizes and flavors. These nutritional bars provide a complete meal or snack in a very convenient form for times during the day that you are unable to eat a complete, balanced whole-foods based meal. Whether your job requires you to travel a lot, you have a busy meeting schedule, or you are just too busy to prepare a nutritious meal, there are times that a quick meal in a "candy bar" form is very convenient to have available.

How the Market for Protein Bars has Changed

Consumer research shows that more and more Americans are eating on the go. As a result, convenient healthy snack options continue to be important. A protein bar is perfect for anyone on the go. Taste is also a very important part of choosing a protein bar. If the bar doesn't taste great, then you will not want to eat it. Don't worry about the bad taste of the "old school" bars. The new bars are much better in taste and quality than their ancestors! Protein bars contain a blend of vitamins and minerals to support overall health and many chemical processes in the body.

How the Protein Bars Can Help

Eating between meals is one of many ways to get fat. Eat meals which suit your lifestyle and your level of physical (in) activity. Eating properly is one of the most beneficial things you can do for yourself.

Protein maintains muscles, and manufactures cells, enzymes, and hormones. Eating "three square meals a day" is an outdated philosophy, and eating less frequently is even more devastating. Effective weight loss calls for eating four or five small meals instead of one or two bigger ones and a protein bar can fit the bill for one of those smaller meals.
Today, we are going to expand our slow cooker skills a little bit more with some recipes that will help ease the craving you have for barbecue.

Clean out the rival crock pot, get your pen and paper ready for the ingredients lists.

Pulled Pork Crock Pot Meal

This first one is a pulled pork recipe made with pork roast and barbecue sauce, along with onions and other seasonings.

Crock Pot Ingredients:

     4 lb pork roast
     2 onions, sliced, divided
     1 onion, chopped
     5-6 whole cloves
     2 cups water
Bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce - 16oz
     Salt & pepper to taste

Crock Pot Meal Setup:

Put one of the sliced onions in the Crock Pot.
With a sharp knife, make cuts in the pork roast and put the cloves in them.
     Season with salt and pepper.
Put the roast in slow cooker.
     Place the second sliced onion.
Fill the crock pot with water until it is almost 2/3 of the way full.

Cover and cook on low 8 to 12 hours.
     Remove roast.
Take out all of the cloves & throw them away.
You can also discard any bone and fat as well as any water, onions and grease still in the crock pot.
Let the pork roast cool for about 20 minutes before you shred it.
Using a fork pull the pork roast apart until the entire roast is shredded.
Return the pulled pork to the crockpot.
Mix in the chopped onion and BBQ sauce and cover.
Heat on high for 1-3 hours or until the onions are soft.

Serve on large buns with a mustard based BBQ sauce. This is also best when served with crisp, homemade slaw.

Slow Cooker Barbecued Beef

An easy slow cooker barbecued beef recipe. Serve this beef with a potato salad or slaw and toasted buns.

Crock Pot Ingredients:

4 lbs of boneless pot roast, lean chuck, rump roast, or top round
     1/2 cup water
     1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 1/4 cups cola or Dr. Pepper
     3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
     2 tablespoons prepared mustard
     1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
     1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
     8 split sandwich buns

Crock Pot Meal Setup:

Put roast in slow cooker with 1/2 cup water.
Cover and cook on LOW for 10 to 12 hours, until very tender, or HIGH for about 6 hours.
     Drain juices off.
     Remove meat; shred with fork.
     Throw away the fat.
Put back in the crock pot.
Mix in ketchup, cola, mustard, flavoring, and Tabasco.
Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 hour.
Serve on toasted or warmed split buns.

When I started this blog I wanted to be able to provide simple tips and recipes for people with a hectic life and not much time to cook let alone cook a healthy meal.

Over the next few weeks I intend to introduce some damn tasty and healthy meals that anyone can make in a short amount of time.

Obviously, by the title this post will introduce some of my most favorite crock pot meals that you can literally prepare in the morning before running off to work, turn it on and have a nice meal complete by the time you get home that night.

I personally would be lost without my crock pot, having made a ton of different meals with little to no time required. You don't have to be the Barefoot Contessa to be able to make mouth watering dishes with these slow cookers.

Rival Crock Pot is My Choice

To start off I want to provide a background on my culinary experience and the fun that I've had with crock pots, because the first couple that I tried just didn't seem to cook properly. There was always more burned food than edible. My personal favorite when it comes to slow cookers is by far the Rival Crock Pot. The inner bowl where the food is cooked is designed perfectly to minimize the burning that occurs as your food is simmering away in it.

As I stated before I'm pretty busy so when I am home, I just want to be about as lazy as I can and with the Rival crock pot it couldn't be easier. My meals typically consist of shopping for the ingredients, usually on the weekend; preparing the ingredients and then throwing them in the crock pot.

The Rival crockpot has digital controls so that I can indicate exactly how long I want the food to cook and even whether I want a high heat or a low heat for the food. The coolest thing is when your food is done cooking, the crock pot goes immediately to "warm mode" and it will keep the food warm without over cooking it until I am ready to sink my teeth into it.

Also, because I use a large crock pot I have enough food to last me nearly the entire week. **hint** Grab yourself some small plastic containers and you suddenly have your lunches at work!! Of course it is just my personal preference to use the Rival brand crock pot over others, as long as you get one you will never regret it!

On to the recipes now....

Crock Pot Meals - Chili

Now this is a basic chili crock pot meal. There is no meat in this one, but I'm sure you've realized you can get creative and add additional ingredients to really spice up the food.

Ingredients

1 lb dried pinto beans. Wash them thoroughly and soak in water overnight

1 medium size onion. Peel it and mince

1 fresh, hot chili pepper. Seed it and mince it. A dried pepper will work in a pinch

1 tsp of ground cumin

1 tsp minced fresh oregano leaves

1 Tbsp minced garlic

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

Fresh cilantro, chopped

Combine all of your ingredients, except cilantro into the slow cooker. Cover all of the ingredients with water and put the lid on it. Set your crock pot on high and cook for 4 hours. Keep an eye on the mixture and if it appears to be getting too dry, add a little more water to the mix.

After cooking your ingredients for 4 hours on high, check to see if the pinto beans are tender. That’ll be your indication that the dish is done. Turn off the crock pot, garnish the meal with the chopped cilantro and you’re ready to eat.

You can always season the meal with more salt and/or pepper if you like. The recipe above was a vegetarian version of chili and you’re not required to stick to that. By all means brown some ground beef or chicken breast (chop up the chicken after cooked) in a pan and throw that into the crock pot with the beans after about 3 1/2 hours of cooking. You’re limited only by your imagination.

Cassoulet Crock Pot Meals

Ok now I'm throwing around big words now! What the heck is cassoulet? Cassoulet is a French word that basically means a slow cooked bean stew or casserole. Usually there is some kind of meat that is added to the stew and this is the reason I chose this recipe next; since its a step up on the first chili recipe I provided for you just above.

Wash them and lightly dry them off

1 medium onion, chopped

2 carrots, peeled and chopped

2 cups of canned, chopped tomatoes. If you want fresh, by all means use fresh tomatoes

1/4 lb of salt pork or slab bacon. Cube it into small cubes

4 links of Italian sausage

1 lb of boneless pork shoulder

2 chicken legs. If you feel like it you can replace chicken legs with duck legs

1/2 tsp of dried thyme

2 bay leaves

4 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed

1 Tbsp of minced garlic

Fresh parsley, chopped

Salt and pepper, to flavor

Chicken stock. If you prefer, you can use low sodium chicken stock or just water.

In your crock pot, add the beans, cubed bacon, bay leaves, crushed garlic, onion, carrots and tomatoes. Fill the crock with the chicken stock. Be sure to cover all of the ingredients by at least two inches. Turn your crock pot on high.

In another pan you will need to brown the other meats, the pork shoulder, chicken legs and sausage. As the items have been browned place them into the crock pot, which should be heating up and simmering along pretty well now.

Place the lid on the crock pot and cook the ingredients on high for about 4 hours. Just like the first chili recipe, the meal is done when the beans are tender. At this point, add the mince garlic and add the salt and pepper to flavor. Garnish with the parsley and Voila, you're finished!

That is all of the crock pot meals that I'm going to have for today. The next posts will focus on slow cooker recipes that have more of a barbeque theme to them. Until then... happy cooking

Body Mass Index(BMI) is a broad assessment of a person's weight. From it you can get a reasonable idea of whether you have a weight issue and the potential health issues that go along with being overweight, among other things higher blood pressure and a higher likelihood of getting diabetes.

With that being said there are things that can invalidate the BMI Calculation. It was created in the mid-nineteenth century and only became popular in its use here in the United States in the 1950s. Its primary function was as a statistical tool to help identify the sedentary individuals (that means the inactive populace) and give physicians a starting point to discussing the proper strategies to maintain health, regardless of whether is was an issue of being overweight or underweight. The BMI calculation is not meant to be a sole tool of diagnosis as it is too general of a method to be used on its own.

Other problems with the BMI calculater are that it is setup for use primarily by an average adult...That is, average for the time when it was implemented. So as a result there are some groups of people where this would not be very accurate in terms of categorizing them; such as very tall people or very short people(which includes children) and even those that are very muscular. In the next post, I plan to have a little program added that I found so you can enter in your information and the program will automatically do the calculation for you.

Simply knowing where you stack up is not enough. Once you have your "before" picture it is time to plan what you want your "after" to be. This will involve a workout strategy as well as a healthy diet plan for you to be successful.

In an effort to provide a resource to fully describe the method for calculating your body mass index and how to use this data to benefit you in your weight loss goals, this blog was created.

According to Stedman’s Medical Dictionary BMI (Body Mass Index) is described as " an anthropometric measure of body mass, defined as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared; a method of determining caloric nutritional status." Whew!! That is a mouthful! Leave it to the medical field to define something and leave you just as confused. In laymen's terms, the BMI test is calculation where a person can get an idea of how much of their state of health utilizing a simple formula that uses your height and weight. There are many calculators on the internet where you can perform the BMI calculation, but I am going to show you the method here.

It is: (weight in pounds) multiplied by 703 / ((height in inches) multiplied by (height in inches)).
Ok now you have a number...that's great, what does it mean?
