Can A Healthy Diet Help Mesothelioma Patients?

The answer to the above question is “yes”.

No matter what type of cancer diagnosis, whether it be mesothelioma or another type of cancer, anyone can deal with the stress of the disease and its treatments better with a healthy, balanced diet.

Your physical strength and stamina can be increased when you maintain a healthy weight, as well, which can help you to deal with any difficult situations relating to the mesothelioma.

When you stick to a healthy, nutritious diet plan, you are doing your body a big favor.

Following such a plan, you can enhance your strength and assist your body in its fight against infection.

A well-balanced diet has also been shown to help the body to rebuild tissues that have been damaged.

Determining a healthy diet is simple – just look to the United States Department of Agriculture for advice.

They have determined that a healthy, well-balanced diet incorporates all levels found on the food pyramid.

Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat and beans are all foods to be enjoyed in varying amounts, while sweets and oils should be used in moderation (if at all).

Exercise is an integral part of their healthy diet plan!

They recommend at least 30 minutes of it each and every day.

When a patient has mesothelioma or another form of cancer, the focus of a healthy lifestyle is more important than for healthy individuals.

Nutritional and exercise considerations are crucial to cancer patients, and some studies done by medical professionals have focused on this fact.

These studies have shown how cancer can change a patient’s eating habits, while it also shows how eating habits can increase a person’s likelihood of developing various types of cancer.

Although it is known that a healthy, balanced diet is beneficial, it can be disrupted by cancer treatments.

Side effects like nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite can hamper a patient’s ability to stick to a proper eating plan.

When this occurs, a doctor can recommend and prescribe medications to help with the alleviation of the side effects.

The physician or a dietician can be extremely useful during this period by providing meal planning and preparation suggestions.

Unfortunately, there is no nutritional cure for mesothelioma and other forms of cancer.

It is a comfort to know that dietary changes may help with the stress and side effects that go along with the cancer treatments, though.

Obesity And Fitness - Fat Versus Muscles.
Obesity is a condition that affects many people these days and in translation it means that the body has too much fat.

In order to analyze it in detail a study was developed on twenty-five football players. Every single one of them was measured and weight and the numbers were compared with the Selective Service standards, which are known to be very generous.

The result was unbelievable.

No less than seventeen jocks were rejected and declared as unfit. You’ll probably ask how this could be possible. Well, they weren’t over fat but they were over muscled.

If you follow the life insurance height-and-weight charts to analyze your weight it’s simply wrong and the study presented above supports this theory. Age is a very important factor in this equation because a fifty years old person cannot have the weight of a young person.

Although the number is the same, fat doesn’t equal muscle.

The weight compared to the heights is not that important as you may think.
Many people all the time worry about being too fat but not a single one of them will have this problem if muscles were the issue. There’s no downside here because everybody loves muscles.

How To Determine Whether You Are Over Weight

In order to be diagnosed with obesity you will have to check the fat level in your body. He can do that in three ways.

The first method involves the person’s visual perspicacity. Take off your clothes and watch yourself in the mirror. If you’re fat you know it and you need no doctor to confirm it.

No overweight person will step into a doctor’s office to find out if his a fat or not. He already knows the answer to this question. They visit the doctor in order to find out how much weight can they lose.

The persons that ignore the change in clothes measurements or in belt are very insensitive. The belt notches are maybe the best index for the ideal weight.

A second method to diagnose the obesity is the “pinch” or “skin-fold” test that will measure how much fat there is between the skin and the muscles.

Fat is the most important barometer of obesity. This test is very simple. Just grasp some skin between forefinger and thumb. Between your fingers you’ll have skin and fat. You cannot pinch the muscles.

You can check the fat on your upper arm, abdomen, upper chest, calf and buttocks. If between your fingers you have more than one-half inch of fat then this is too much. This is considered to be a very accurate method to determine your ideal weight.

The third method is the one of specific gravity. Under water a fat person will tend to rise to the surface and that happens because the fat is much lighter than water. Just like the oil in a glass of water. On the other hand muscles tend to sink because they are heavier than water.

Take the example of Mr. S that on the bathroom scale weighs 202 pounds. That couldn’t be possible because he had an impressive abdomen.

What was amazing was that under water Mr. S weight only 9 pounds.

Seeing all that the man decided to lose some weight. He started to work out and followed a strict diet. Months have passed and when he stepped up to the bathroom scale once again the result was satisfactory: 186 pounds.

Under water he was now weighting 12 pounds. This means that he managed to change fat for muscles and that’s great especially for his health.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Well, that’s simply not true. You can do that! There are plenty exercises that burn many calories and if you add a strict diet to all that you can lose weight in no time.

All this is supported by a medical study developed by a few college men. In exchange for some money they were asked to maintain a constant weight.

The first step was to follow a low calorie diet but in order not to lose weight they had to limit their activity. This obviously didn’t work so the diet was changed to 6,000 calories.

Now they spent a lot of time exercising so that they won’t gain any weight. Day after day their weight remained constant because they did many exercises. There’s no secret: exercise and weight work great together but if you separate them you’ll have a problem.

If you spend an entire weekend in your bed doing nothing but watching TV and eating popcorn you’ll notice a few extra pounds on the scale the next day.

According to the popular belief, in order to lose a pound you’ll have to spend five hours chopping wood or walking but that’s not a viable option for no almost no one. If you put it this way it’s insane but if you analyze the statistics a little bit you’ll see that they can be interpreted.

For example you can walk four times a week for half an hour and you’ll burn over 1,000 calories and for those of you who don’t know that equals one pound. That means that you can lose a pound in a week without following a diet. Apply this pattern to any other exercise and you’ll see the results in no time.

If all this don’t work you can always go and ask for medical attention. There’s a big difference between lean and obese persons when it comes about efficiency and grace. The obese individuals will accomplish a certain task burning a few calories while the lean individuals will do all that and requiring a few extra calories.

For example, you can see an obese person walking on the street very easily and gracefully while the person joining him will do the same thing a little bit harder. But all this is an empirical study that needs medical support.

Make no mistake, the key element when you want to lose weight is not the diet but the exercises. According to some medical observations in 7 days the optimum weight loss proceeds at approximately two pounds and this causes depression. On a long run this can affect the patient but he can control it and deal with the issue.

But there’s a downside to all that. Sometimes a perfect diet can be badly affected by exercises. If you exercise too much your appetite will increase and you’ll be very hungry. But that’s no good. It’s completely wrong for you to sit down and have a meal right after doing some exercises.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Three Essential Eating Tools That Can Help You Lose Weight.

One of the most difficult aspects of losing weight is resisting the urge to overeat.

Restaurant portion sizes have gotten larger despite the fact that the collective waistline of America continues to expand at an alarming rate.

Most people overestimate how much food makes up a single serving and end up eating two to three times more food than they think they’re eating.

Is there a way to get those portion sizes under control?

One way to accomplish this task is to use special eating tools designed to help control portion sizes.

Here are some inexpensive eating tools that can help you get those portions under control :-

Eating tools - A digital food scale

One simple way to prevent overeating is to weigh foods on a digital food scale. If you’re using pre-packaged foods, you can check the nutrition label to determine the weight of a single serving.

When preparing foods that aren’t packaged, there are various websites that will give you the weight and calories contained in a single serving of the foods. Once you’ve weighed foods consistently over a period of time, you may be able to eyeball foods to determine approximate portion size.

Eating tools - Use portion control plates and bowls

There are a variety of types of plates and bowls on the market that are calibrated to hold a single portion size. These can be found on various online sites. If you eat breakfast cereal in the morning, you can buy a portion control bowl with color coded rings corresponding to different serving sizes of your favorite cereal.

You can also buy portion control plates for standardizing the amount of food you eat at lunch and dinner. A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that obese diabetics who used portion control tools lost more weight than those who didn’t. These plates and bowls are excellent for increasing awareness of portion sizes and reducing the tendency to overeat.

Eating tools - Use portion control utensils

You can buy portion control utensils that hold less food than typical forks and spoons. This means you can fit less food on the fork and you end up eating at a slower, more controlled pace.

This also gives your body more time to send the signal to your brain that you’re full, meaning you’ll end up eating less at a meal. Another way to slow down your eating pace is to use chopsticks instead of a fork.

Portion controlled eating tools can be very effective in reducing the tendency to overeat.

If you’re anxious to eliminate those excess pounds, why not give these tools a try?
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Constipation is a painful, embarrassing problem for anyone. Luckily, there are ways to circumvent needing to take a trip to the doctor’s office.

First, determine if it’s really constipation.

Many people experience three bowel movements a day, but others may only experience two to three bowel movements a week. If you are positive you are constipated, make sure you are drinking enough daily fluids and fiber.

Essentially, by consuming lots of fluids and fiber, you ensure your stool remains soft enough for it to pass through the colon.

A diet lacking in water and fiber means the stool hardens and cannot clear the colon. That’s when a person becomes constipated.

How much is enough?

You need to consume at least six glasses of liquid a day. The healthiest diets contain eight glasses of water, but the minimum is six. While “fluids” can mean anything from coffee to diet soda, the best fluid for any diet is old, reliable water.

The American Dietetic Association recommends adults consume 20 to 35 grams of dietary fiber. If you are suffering from constipation, they recommend you eat at least 30 grams a day.

Where can I get more fiber?

You can boost your fiber intake by eating complex carbohydrates like whole grains, vegetables, and fruit. Easily accessible food sources like apples, beans, pears, prunes, raisins, oatmeal, nuts, popcorn, and figs are all jam-packed with fiber. A word of warning: increase your fiber intake slowly or you’ll have wicked bouts of gas.

If you’re eating plenty of fiber and drinking a lot of water, and you’re still constipated, don’t worry! There are still further measures you can take to relieve yourself, and you can still do it in the comfort of your own home.

Work out!

Regular exercise can ease constipation. There’s no need to run for three hours on a treadmill. Regular walking (for 20 to 30 minutes) is a great way to stay regular.

Cut out the oils

Examine your diet for areas of excess oil usage. Oils such as vegetable, soy, or olive. Oils form a film in the stomach that makes it difficult to digest carbohydrates and proteins in the small intestine. Oils can delay digestion up to twenty minutes and increase gastro indigestion. In short, oils are another way you get backed up.

However, not all oils are bad. Only oils in their “free state,” such as bottled oils are bad for digestion. Oils in their natural state, such as avocados, corn, and whole nuts slowly break down in the small intestine. No oil blocks any passage, and the oils act as fuel for the body rather than slow down its processes.

Beware of milk

Milk causes constipation and diarrhea in many people. Also, foods that cause gas like cabbage and beans should not be eaten by people who suffer from constipation because they can lead to a “spastic colon.” You’ll know if you suffer from spastic colon because you will experience sharp pain on top of your constipation.

Preparing meals

Eating smaller portions can help your body digest food more easily.

Examine your toilet habits

Do you go to the bathroom when you need to, or only when it’s convenient? It may be hard to believe, but delaying your toilet breaks can lead to constipation. Always be aware of the signals your body sends you.

Wherever you are, when you need to use the bathroom, go use the bathroom. The best time to visit the toilet is after a meal. Even if you don’t feel the need to use the toilet, go to the bathroom after you eat. At first, nothing will happen, but over time, your bowels will learn to release themselves after mealtime.

Calm down

When you’re stressed and tense, your bowels will not relax enough to allow the release of waste. Listen to soothing music, read a book, or watch your favorite comedy. Laughing massages the intestines, increases digestion, and relieves stress.

When all else fails

When all else fails, consider purchasing laxative tablets. Remember: this should be a last resort because some people develop addictions to laxatives. If you take too many laxatives, your bowels become accustomed to them, so when you stop using them, constipation can actually get worse.

Regular laxatives versus natural laxatives

Laxatives marked “natural” mean their main ingredient is usually psyllium seed, a super form of fiber. Psyllium seed isn’t addictive, but they must be taken with a lot of water or the seeds can block passages in the small intestine.

Make your own Psyllium pills

At any health store, purchase flax, oat bran, and psyllium seeds. At home, grind the ingredients together, mix in water, and eat some of the mash late at night. This concoction is exactly what is sold at pharmacies, but for half the price!

Enemas and Suppositories

Nothing works faster to relieve constipation than an enema or suppository. However, these procedures should be occasional, and not overused. Too many enemas could result in the stretching of the colon, which essentially means you would be left with the opposite problem of constipation.

As always, if your condition worsens, visit your doctor. However, most constipation can be cured in the privacy of your own home.
Is Fasting Healthy ?

People may fast for various reasons including spiritual discipline, inner cleansing or as a weight loss method but is fasting healthy ?

The truth is that fasting does have its benefits but it can be dangerous.

First and foremost, fasting should never be used as a way to lose weight. The weight that people lose through fasting is mostly water weight rather than excess fatty tissue.

The weight loss is not long-term and is usually gained back rather quickly. One of the dangers of losing weight in this manner is the possibility of dehydration and the loss of essential electrolytes.

Anyone who is fasting should drink large quantities of water and fruit juice to avoid dehydration.

A healthy fast done for twenty-four hours for the purpose of inner cleansing to remove toxins from the body can be beneficial.

Still there are some people who should not fast. Fasting is not recommended for the following reasons :-

- If you are pregnant

- If you are elderly

- If you are a diabetic

- If you have heart disease

- If you are on medication

- If you suffer from kidney problems

Fasting has a long history and has been practiced for centuries but that doesn't mean that it is safe for you. If you are thinking of fasting you should get a physical first to make sure you are in good health and you should never begin a fast without your physician's approval. Fasting for too long or if you have a health condition could prove harmful which is why you should always consult with your doctor first.

Don't use fasting as a weight loss method. Fasting can be dangerous and weight loss should be a gradual process. If you need to lose weight consult with your physician. He or she can help you to develop a healthy weight loss plan.

A combination of exercise and healthy diet is the best way to lose weight so that it will stay off. Weight loss requires a change in lifestyle. Developing a healthier lifestyle takes time. There is no instant cure to drop extra pounds and any method practiced to lose weight quickly is not healthy.

Lose weight by cutting back on calories and do it the healthy way. Fasting should be done to remove toxins and cleanse your body. If you choose to fast do it to benefit your health and body not to harm it. Consult with your physician before you fast and practice fasting safely.

Written by Darlene Zagata
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

If you lower your carbohydrate and refined sugars intake and fill up on protein and vegetables, you will lose weight.

It is all about controlling your glycemic index or blood sugar levels. You do not want to increase your sugar levels because that rise will cause you to feel hungry faster.

It’s all due to the fact that your body thinks that it needs to eat because sugar is not a good source for sustained nutrition.

When comparing our bodies and metabolisms to that of animals in the wild kingdom, you will find that the animals that need to eat a lot to stay alive, are the animals that eat items high in sugar and low in protein, such as herbivores.

The animals that can go days without the need for food are the carnivore/high protein eaters such as: bears, wild cats, snakes, and members of the crocodilian family. Protein is not as quickly digested and absorbed into your blood stream, so you will feel full for longer and it offers a sustained source of nutrition.

Your body is not telling you it needs to eat again because your glucose level is not plummeting. Knowing that you are doing what is right for your body is a wonderful way to feel healthy and confident in yourself.

Many people find it nearly impossible to go without eating some of the worst causes of increased glucose levels given their predominance in the meals we eat on a daily basis. The most popular of these foods are: refined bread and pasta, potatoes, and sweets which can make it very difficult to stay away from these items.

Instead, you need to focus on whole grain bread and pasta, replacing high carbohydrate sides with salads or steamed veggies, increasing your protein choices and replacing a sugary sweet treat with either fresh fruit or a nice fresh fruit smoothie.

Although fruits are high in sugars, they are not refined and do not get immediately absorbed into the blood stream. They are slowly broken down and absorbed at a more consistent rate.

There are many reliable sources on the net that are free and accessible to anyone wishing to improve their dietary consumption. The American Diabetes Association is a nonprofit organization that offers many helpful tips and recipes on their website.

Also, many of the most commonly used portals (AOL, Yahoo, MSN) have recognized the need to cater to the increasing diabetic population and have a plethora of invaluable information.

Of course, any healthy diet should include the dreaded aspect of exercise. But, as you will see when practicing the diabetic diet for a few weeks, your energy level will increase.

You will feel more active and the benefits of exercise will compound the way you feel and look. The diabetic diet is not about starving yourself, it is all about maintaining your glucose level.

If you feel hungry, eat!

Just make smart choices in what you eat. If you are true to the diet, it will be true to you.

You can lose weight and feel happier and healthier without feeling hungry, or paying loads of cash for a dietary plan that leaves you empty, in your stomach, wallet or soul.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Calorie Shifting Diet Is The Answer.

Dieters all over the world have tried many methods of loosing weight, and a great portion of them fail.

Some methods of weight loss do not work for everyone, and a weight loss program that works for one dieter, may not always work for another.

However, there is one method of weight loss that many dieters are using with success, and it is calorie shifting.

The following paragraphs will discuss calorie shifting, as well as some of the clear advantages associated with it.

Calorie shifting is a method of weight loss that involves shifting around your calorie intake. For example, it is most common for people to eat more calories during their evening meal than any other meal.

By shifting around their calorie intake, perhaps eating more in the morning and less in the evening, many dieters are achieving healthy weight loss. Shifting calories in this fashion will give your body more time to burn off those extra calories, as opposed to allowing them to turn into fat.

There are many advantages associated with methods of weight loss that involve calorie shifting.

Some of these advantages can include:

- Rapid weight loss can be achieved.

- Healthy weight loss can be achieved.

- Only small percentages of people regain the weight they have lost.

Rapid weight loss is often associated with calorie shifting for many reasons. As previously mentioned, shifting increased calorie intake to early times in the day will allow your body more time to burn off the extra calories.

When you consume most of your calories in the evening time, then go to sleep, it is more likely those extra calories will turn into fat.

Healthy weight loss is also commonly associated with calorie shifting methods of weight loss. With these types of weight loss methods, calorie intakes are not reduced to ridiculous levels. Low calorie diets have been known to cause health risks that you do not have to worry about with calorie shifting.

In addition to the above advantages, most people who lose weight by using calorie shifting methods report that they are able to successfully keep the weight off. Only a small percentage of dieters regain the lost weight. Most dieters find that this method of weight loss is the easiest to remain dedicated to.

Any diet program requires the dieter to remain dedicated, they must remain consistent, and they must keep their patience. It is easier to do these things when trying to achieve your goals with a calorie shifting method for many reasons.

Calorie shifting methods of weight loss do not require the dieter to give up any food groups, making the diet easier to stick to.

The main requirements associated with these methods of weight loss are:

- Consume the majority of your calorie intake during earlier parts of the day.

- Consume your evening meal at least 5 hours before bedtime.

- Participate in regular physical activities.

With such easy requirements, very few people fail with this diet method.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Low Carbohydrate Diets - Why They Fail.

There are many weight loss plans available that will require dieters to ensure the total elimination carbohydrates from their diet.

While some dieters may claim these are the best weight loss plans, some dieters can't lose weight.

The following paragraphs will discuss some of the reasons why carbohydrate elimination weight loss plans often fail.

One of the most common reason for failure when it comes to any weight loss plan, including low carbohydrate diets, is lack of exercise. Many dieters believe the common misconception that exercise is not necessary in order to achieve healthy weight loss, that the best weight loss programs fail to include an exercise regimen.

However, regular physical activity, or regular exercise, are essential to healthy weight loss, and should be including in any weight loss plan. Lack of exercise is one of the leading reasons for low carbohydrate diet failure.

Another leading reason that low carbohydrate weight loss plans fail is lack of knowledge on the dieter's part. Just because calorie counting is not necessary for most low carbohydrate weight loss plans, it does not mean you can eat as many calories as you want.

The whole idea of cutting back on carbohydrates is in hopes to be able to eventually eat less calories without being hungry. However, many dieters believe since they're eating low carbohydrate diets, they can eat as much of the other types of food they want, and still reach their weight loss goals. These dieters often find out they can't lose weight. For these dieters, low carbohydrate diets often fail.

When dieters who are trying to lose weight by following low carbohydrate weight loss plans fail to include enough vegetables in their daily meals, their low carbohydrate diets are likely to fail.

Fruits and vegetables are located at the base of the standard low carbohydrate pyramid, suggesting they should be consumed more than any other type of food. Most low carbohydrate dieters who do not eat enough fruits and vegetables find that they can't lose weight.

When dieters who are trying to lose weight by using low carbohydrate diet plans and do not first educate themselves on the specific foods, they often can't lose weight.

It is very important to first understand what foods contain carbohydrates and which foods don't before attempting this diet plan. If not, failure can occur.

Finally, many dieters who chose to try low carbohydrate diets to meet their weight loss goals tend to give up too quickly. It is human nature to want to give up when you do not see immediate results.

However, there is no magical way to shed extra pounds quickly. Losing weight too quickly can be unhealthy, and most diets take time. Low carbohydrate weight loss plans can be difficult to stick to.

This adds to the rate of failure associated with low carbohydrate diets.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Many of them share horror stories from their brief experiences whenever the topic comes up.

Don’t be discouraged. In the world of low carb eating, what separates the horror stories from the fairy tales is often preparation.

Your success relies greatly on anticipating and preparing for the challenges that lie ahead in the next few weeks. Don’t be caught off-guard. For your health and happiness, fight through these initial struggles and reclaim control of your life.

Stock the Kitchen

Many diets recommend you run to the pantry and throw out all tempting treats. In a perfect world, this would be a fine suggestion. Unfortunately, many of us live with people who won’t be sharing our life-changing experience. Your success should not be contingent upon access to the wrong food, but the right food.

Always keep your house filled with plenty of the foods your plan allows you. Many people find they are not most tempted by what their family is eating, but by the lack of food options they have provided themselves.

Make sure you have lots of legal snack food in addition to meals. If you often find yourself eating away from home, pack snacks and meals.

Never assume there will be a low carb option available when you arrive somewhere… there usually isn’t.

Find Fast Foods

Low carb cuisine may be the most delicious ‘diet food’ you’ve ever experienced.

However, many meals require more preparation that you might expect.

Stuffed chicken breasts with mushroom sauce sounds delicious, but it’s just not practical when you’re hungry RIGHT NOW.

There are many low carb snacks and recipes that require little preparation or can be prepared in advance.

Fast and fantastic recipes for low carb diets can be found in books, magazines and online. A quick internet search will direct you to many dishes that are designed for those eating on-the-go. Arm yourself with recipes and snack ideas before you find yourself in a tricky and tempting position.

Eat and Eat and Eat

Many low carb food plans do not recommend you count calories. If yours is one, this rule is for you. Eat! When we feel that unfamiliar pain in our stomachs (hunger), we just want to feed. If your food plan says you can, you should. Being hungry will not speed up the weight-loss process and can actually slow it down.

Eat BEFORE you are hungry. This is an extremely useful tool. Avoid temptation by eating before hunger sets in. When our stomachs growl, we get tempted. Our minds revert back to foods of habit. Beat the system by shutting down hunger before it starts! Don’t dream of skipping breakfast. Eat your lunch and dinner early. Snack!

Just Say No

It’s a strange and mysterious phenomenon too many people experience on low carb food plans. You’re two or three days into your new lifestyle and you’re starting to feel a whole lot better. You’ve made up your mind that this way of eating is right for you. The fridge is full and your will is strong. And then someone catches wind of your ‘diet’ and derailing your success becomes their top priority.

For whatever reason, some people won’t be satisfied until they have convinced you to try “just a bite” of something you know you shouldn’t have. If you resist their temptation, you will likely be forced to listen to a long list of reasons why your plans won’t work. You’ll probably hear a horror story or two before it’s over. Don’t let peer-pressure derail your fast train to results. There’s no such thing as “just a bite” in your low carb lifestyle.

Network

People will be working against you. Why not connect with folks who will work with you? Friends who share your lifestyle will be a great source of support, inspiration, and information. Low carb companions can lend you their experience and knowledge. They can even give you some tasty recipes.

If you are unable to find low carb support groups locally, turn to the internet. Millions of people turn to online communities for low carb pals. There are countless free forums and chat-rooms where folks just like you come together by the thousands. Make some new friends or just ask a few questions. Connections to low carb success stories can help you stay focused on your goals no matter what life throws your way.

Avoid Low Carb Junk

It’s in every grocery and health-food store. It’s advertised all over the internet. Low carb junk food is a multi-million dollar industry that can suck you in and rob you of your goals. Don’t be fooled. A candy bar is a candy bar and ice-cream is ice-cream no matter what you call it.

Most of these products proudly display net-carbohydrate listings that are misleading. Net carbohydrates usually don’t include sugar alcohols. Sugar Alcohols are not sugar or alcohol and they are not completely absorbed by your body, but they still pose a threat to your success.

Read the label. Sugar alcohols, though not included in the net carbohydrates, are generally listed. The American Dietetic Association recommends counting half of the sugar alcohol carbs listed as part of your daily intake. So if your low carb snack bar boasts 3 grams of net carbs on the front, but lists 24 grams of sugar alcohol on the back, you should ask yourself if that snack is worth 15 total grams of carbohydrates.

Get a Hobby

Most people see a vast improvement in energy within the first week of low carb eating. After years of feeling tired and sluggish, they are filled with a new sense of enthusiasm. But for what? If you don’t have a hobby or special interest, now is the time to acquire one.

Being energized is great. Being energized without direction can be dangerous.

Sitting around, wishing you had something to do is uncomfortable and many people revert to old eating habits for comfort.

Finding an enjoyable pastime can be fulfilling.

Not only will you channel your new energy into something positive, but you’ll also have a new use for all the time you used to spend obsessing about food.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

Cannot Lose Weight ? Try Copying What Fit People Do.

15 Tips That Will Help You Go From Fat to Fit (With Little Sacrifice).

You’ve tried a million different diets, and the number on the scale still won’t budge.

You’re frustrated, depressed, and ready to give in to the fact that you’ll always be overweight.

Well, I’m about to let you in on 15 principles that separate fit people from those who perpetually struggle with extra weight.

Incorporate the ideology of the fit into your daily routine and watch the weight fall off – and never diet again!

#1 Fit People Do Not Stave Themselves

The diet industry has brainwashed consumers into believing that in order to lose weight, people need spend their hard earned cash, and physically suffer in some shape or form. The truth is, dieting is extremely counterproductive to the proper functioning of your metabolism, and is detrimental to any weight loss effort.

After being deprived of food and vital nutrients, the body retaliates by holding on to every bit of extra weight it carries. When deprived of fuel (food), the human body’s first reaction is to shut down and conserve energy (fat).

Sadly, this is the primary reason why most people end up piling on more weight after each deprivation diet, and it’s the reason why fit people refuse to diet.

Fad diets are formulated for the consumer to achieve a “temporary” success, followed by the weight being regained.

The consumer is then left desperate to find another quick fix. The diet industry thrives on this vicious cycle, because it keeps their customers coming back!

#2 Fit People Eat Their Fruits and Vegetables

I cannot stress this enough: if you’re not getting your fruits and veggies, say goodbye to your dreams of being slim and trim. Incorporating colorful fruits and vegetables into your daily food intake is the most important aspect of being healthy, inside and out.

Without the vitamins and roughage that fruits and vegetables supply, you will retain water weight, have a poor complexion, and your bowels will become less efficient at eliminating fats and toxins from the body.

Now this doesn’t mean to go and eat 10 lbs of fruits and vegetables each day. A couple servings of fruit, and 2-3 colorful vegetables every night at dinner will make a significant difference in the functioning of your metabolism, as well as facilitating weight loss and toxin release from your body.

Don’t just stick with the same fruits and veggies day after day, those who are fit switch up their fruits and vegetables as often as possible.

Sticking with the same foods all the time means you’re not getting the vitamins you need, leading to lethargy, lack of mental clarity, and general nutritional deficiencies that keep your organs from functioning at an optimum level.

Keeping your organs healthy insures that you will regularly eliminate toxins, extra water weight and burn unneeded fat!

#3 Fit People Choose Whole Grains Over Floury, Sludgy, White Bread

Not only will you be instantly improving the efficiency of your colon, you’ll be more satisfied after eating a piece of whole grain bread verses a flimsy slice of white bread. It’s important to realize that bread is not the enemy, grains are an essential staple of proper nutrition.

Fit people know there is little “grain” in white bread, and that consuming “white sludge” results in weight gain. Switching to whole grain breads, pasta and rice is essential if you want to slim down without starving yourself. The more grains in the bread, the more weight you will shed.

#4 Fit People Eat When They Are Hungry

Like diets in general, skipping meals will only place your body back into starvation mode. And what happens in starvation mode? The body’s metabolism kicks into LOW gear and every morsel of fat goes into storage. This means the extra weight on the body will be even more difficult to shed in the future.

It is important however, that you learn to stop eating when you are satisfied. Get the notion out of your head that every meal could be your last. Have the remainder wrapped up for later, or just place your napkin on it.

Think of how bad you’re going to feel if you eat until you’re completely stuffed. Instead, set the remaining portion aside and have it as a snack when you’re hungry again.

#5 Fit People Don’t Treat Their Bodies Like Garbage Disposals

As children, we were all lectured about the starving kids in Africa if we didn’t finish the food on our plates. Here’s a newsflash: when you have eaten to the point of being satisfied, forcing the rest of the food down on your plate is NOT going to help the kids in Africa. Donate money or volunteer your time if you really want to help people.

If you’re a guest at someone’s house, it is not rude to refuse a second plate. If you are given a second plate and you didn’t ask for it, don’t eat it. Simply state that the meal was delicious, but you cannot manage another morsel. Same goes for at home when you’ve cooked too much food, either wrap it up for later, or throw it out.

Think throwing out food is a waste ? Forcing leftovers down the hatch doesn’t actually save you money, nor does it save the environment; it only adds additional strain on the digestive system, making you sluggish, bloated, and if done repeatedly, it will take years off your life.

#6 Fit People Don’t Let Others Undermine Their Efforts to Be Healthy

This is a big one.

It’s sad, but some people have trouble seeing others succeed, particularly if their own previous efforts to lose weight have been unsuccessful. While you will undoubtedly be faced with some criticism towards your new healthy lifestyle, avoid the urge to retaliate with “healthy-living lectures.”

If those who struggle with their own weight issues really want your help, they’ll ask for it. When faced with negativity, stick to your guns, and rest assured that the more criticism you receive, the closer you probably are to your goal weight.

#7 Fit People Regularly Get Outside

Improve the function of your heart and your digestive system by taking a walk after dinner. You don’t need to be a slave to the gym, unless you fancy bulging muscles.

Those who forgo the gym maintain a healthy weight through regular activities like walking to the store, going for a hike or a bike ride, or buying an exercise ball and just playing around on it while watching TV.

Think that’s not enough exercise to lose weight? It certainly is if you can manage to get in some form of activity every day. You don’t have to get all dressed up in running gear to lose weight and get healthy. The less you have to prepare for “exercise,” the more likely you’ll stick with it.

#8 Fit People Walk to Get Their Junk Food

My husband and I have a rule that we don’t keep junk food in the house, but we do eat it once or twice a week. We’ll generally go for a long walk, and will stop at the convenience store along the way to buy a chocolate bar, a soda, or chips.

We don’t feel guilty about partaking in some good old-fashioned junk, or worry about gaining weight because we’re burning the extra calories we consume while we’re walking. The sugar rush usually keeps us out a bit longer too!

Yes, you CAN eat junk food and be fit, but you can only get away with it if you’re keeping up with your fruits and veggies, and getting your daily exercise. Just remember not to overdo it; it’s all about moderation!

#9 Fit People Know the Importance of Getting a Good Night’s Sleep

If you’re not getting enough sleep now, start going to bed a little earlier. People who are overweight often lack a sufficient amount of shut-eye.

A good night’s sleep not only gives you more energy throughout the day, it also repairs your body, and regulates your metabolism.

If your sleeplessness is related to waking up throughout the night, find out what wakes you and fix it. If it’s noise, place a fan or a white noise machine in your bedroom. If your bedroom is too light, get darker curtains.

If you’re worried about something, get up and write it down, and set a time aside the next day to do something about it. Make an effort to associate your bed with sleep, and leave your problem solving for the daylight hours.

#10 Most Fit People Have a Hobby

I often find when I’m editing photos on the computer, or playing my guitar, I don’t think about eating. Your hobby doesn’t have to involve physical exertion, but something that keeps your mind busy.

Constant obsession about food indicates a lack of passion in a person’s life. Join a club, or pick up a new hobby to send your mind elsewhere – there are thousands of activities to choose from!

#11 Fit People Fill Up On Natural, High Quality Foods

Consuming natural foods that grow in the ground will help your body run clean and efficiently. The majority of your groceries should be found on the outer walls of the grocery store.

Many of the prepackaged foods in the center aisles are loaded with chemicals and preservatives that overwork the liver, and contribute to toxin accumulation in the body resulting in extra body weight.

Try to buy organic vegetables when possible, and opt for unsalted nuts instead of salted. Pick lean meats, rather than cuts that are lined with fat.

When selecting ground beef, remember that most of the fat melts off during the cooking process, so you’re actually getting more meat when purchasing the leaner cuts. If there is too much meat in a package for one meal, you can always divide it in half and freeze the unused portion.

#12 Fit People Know What a Portion Size Looks Like

A good rule of thumb is to keep your meat portion the size of a deck of cards (a little larger won’t hurt if it’s high quality meat). On the other hand, there is no limit on the amount of vegetables you can eat.

You’re not going to gain weight eating too many peas or green beans. It’s okay to put a little butter or margarine on your veggies, just be reasonable about it.

#13 Fit People Eat Fat

Yes, you read correctly.

It is extremely important if you want to be fit to consume some fats throughout the day. Essential fats give the body the much-needed energy to burn calories, and to help the body eliminate some of the bad stuff that accumulates in the intestinal tract.

But here’s the clincher – you need to eat GOOD FATS to lose and maintain a healthy weight!

Good fats are found in products like olive oil, avocados, and nuts. There are numerous health benefits in replacing bad fats with good fats, and without these good fats, you cannot lose weight and keep it off.

Fats to stay away from include corn oil, coconut oils, lard and any fats that are labeled “trans,” or “saturated.” Trans and saturated fats literally congeal in the bloodstream and accumulate in the arteries, leading to serious health problems and obesity.

So read your labels carefully, and know what you’re putting into your body.

#14 Fit People Drink Water

Yes, everyone knows this one, but if you’re drinking more soda than water throughout the day, you’re overloading your body with the sugar and chemicals that are counterproductive to reaching a healthy weight.

Soda is essentially junk food; you will never see a fit person consume soda mindlessly throughout the day.

Replace your thirst cravings with something that the body needs to survive and function properly, like good old H20.

If water is too boring for you, create a mixture of 2/3 water, and 1/3 orange juice (not sugary punch – real juice).

You’ll quench your thirst without adding extra calories and toxic chemicals that burden the liver.

If you can drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water each day (that’s only 6-8 cups), your complexion will become clearer, you’ll have more energy, and you will LOSE WEIGHT. If you really need caffeine to get through the day, alternate your water intake with coffee or tea.

Even with a little sugar added, coffee and tea are much healthier than sugar and chemical laden sodas. Both coffee and tea contain healthy antioxidants, and aid in the digestive process.

Steer clear of unnatural “decaf” varieties, as these contain more of those unwanted chemicals that contribute to weight gain.

#15 Fit People Don’t Compulsively Jump on Scales

Fit people usually judge weight fluctuation by the fit of their clothes. If you ask most fit people how much they weigh, 9 out of 10 couldn’t tell you.

They’re not lying to spare your feelings, they’re just not obsessed with their weight. If you really want to monitor your progress, buy a measuring tape.

A measuring tape is a far better indicator of actual body mass, and it will also help you become familiar with your decreasing clothing size as you’re losing weight.

Remember that healthy living is a lifestyle, not a temporary fix. After a few months of making smarter choices, you’ll be on well on your way to a healthier, stronger, leaner, and more energetic body.

The trick to being slim and trim is to use your head.

You only have one body, give it what it needs to run efficiently, and you’ll be losing that extra weight in no time!
My wife was bringing home a pretty good paycheck as well.

This is when I made the big jump. I decided to pursue my dream of freelance writing. This is also when my new diet plan took effect.

I found it easy to cut down on my calories because our cupboards were bare. I didn't need expensive diet pills to curb my cravings because even if I craved a pizza I couldn't afford it.

In just a few short weeks my weight began to decrease dramatically. My clothes were hanging off me and my image in the mirror began to thin out.

I increased my exercise routine simply to take my mind off the lack of work coming in. My wife was very supportive but her involuntary inclusion in this diet was wearing on her.

The irony of the situation was not lost on either of us. We looked better but could not afford a night on the town to show off our new physiques.

Work began to come in and I began to think about food again.

Unfortunately, past due bills and mortgage payments ate up most of my new found income. We found creative uses for canned vegetables and pasta. When the propane for our stove ran out we became gourmet charcoal grill and microwave chefs. If it couldn’t be nuked or grilled we didn’t need it.

This story does have a happy ending, at least for my sanity if not for my waistline.

I began to find work and my income increased.

I am at a comfortable level now and our cupboards and refrigerators are once again full. My mirror image has once again begun to fill out.

Ah, yet another diet falls to the curse of rebound.
Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

While we want to lose a little weight, most people don’t know how to go about it.

What is the hardest part of losing weight ?

I used to think it was exercise, but choosing what foods to eat is even harder. Why ?

When you start to exercise, the body takes care of itself. The muscles are worked and they in turn start to grow and reshape themselves.

With food, it is a different story. We truly are what we eat. Making poor food choices can set us back with our fitness goals.

It can be frustrating when you have to continually worry about what you are eating. Each bite can be distressing.

Well, we are about to do away with all that. If you don’t remember anything else, commit to memory that food is not the enemy. No food in and of itself is bad.

As long as we practice portion control, we can eat almost anything in moderation. For most foods, there are substitutions to make it a healthier meal.

As long as we are familiar with the basics of food, we can go about choosing foods that will be healthier for us to eat.

Let’s start with carbohydrates. The news would have us believe there are good carbs and bad carbs. In reality, there are carbs that are digested more efficiently by your body and those that are not.

A combination of the two will help us throughout the day.

Simple carbohydrates are digested quickly. Things like candy bars and sugary snacks are used up quickly which is why we get bursts of energy after we eat these things but then we crash and burn an hour later.

With complex carbohydrates, the body takes longer to break them down so their energy is released throughout the day to keep our blood sugar steady.

These include fiber-rich foods, whole grains, bran, and other grains. The one exception is refined white flour products.

Protein is meats, fish, and legumes. Beans are a good substitute for eating animal protein. They are high in protein and low in fat and cholesterol.

Instead of adding hamburger to your salsa dip, put some black beans and garbanzo beans with a little cilantro into the mix for a tangy taste. Protein fuels the muscles and other cellular functions in the body.

Last is fat. Not much to say about that. Fat tastes good.

That’s why we like it so much. Unfortunately, it also fills those fat stores in our body.

Did you know that there is no limit to the amount of fat that can fit into those cells ?

For that reason alone, we need to learn how food works so we can keep our weight under control.

Use the information here to help you choose healthy foods that will help you to lose weight or maintain that weight loss.

Video - Healthy Weight Loss Diet Food Program

Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

We eat it as a matter of course.

Also, the “selling” of chicken has been cleverly and ingeniously modernized. Today, when a homemaker has a demand for six chicken legs for a family of four, she no longer has to buy three chickens.

Portion packaging, frozen chicken, and greatly improved methods of storing and keeping have made the many forms of chicken available all year round.

Time was when you could only get squab broilers in the spring, fryers in June and July. Now you can buy chicken as-you-like-it all through the year.

The housewife can purchase chicken, ready to cook, in parts and portions to suit her purse and fancy.

It is important to remember that the fat content of chicken goes up in almost exact ratio to age. Squab broilers are not only the most tender of all chicken varieties, but also lowest in total fat content.

In fact, they are first on the list of low-fat animal protein foods. Broilers and fryers, weighing two pounds or so, are next on the list. As the fowls grow older and bigger, they accumulate more and more fat.

Obviously, the cooking method you use is of basic concern in preparing healthy
chicken.

When you fry a chicken, fry it in vegetable oil, never in lard, shortening, or
butter.

Resist the temptation to add bacon slices, for bacon contains a very hard fat.

Brush chicken you roast or broil with a thin coating of vegetable oil.

Cut all the visible fat from any accessible part of an older chicken before you cook it, and avoid adding any hard fat in the process of basting, or by way of stuffing.

Use a high-poly oil for this purpose, and move several steps further to¬ward making it a heart saver meat. The polys you add by this simple device may make it s real blood-cholesterol-lowering meal.

These additional hints may be of further help:

BROILER CHICKEN :- The very act of broiling renders fat from a chicken. It is by far, the preferred cooking method. But, to grease the broiling rack, always use a vegetable oil—never a hard fat.

It may be best to broil the bigger broilers until half-done, then brush well with soft oil and place on a roasting rack, in a shallow pan. Finish cooking in a 350-degree oven. If you should buy a tough, old bird, you could try steaming it thoroughly before broiling.

ROAST CHICKEN :- Buy the youngest bird possible. Remove all visible fat, brush with vegetable oil, and place the fowl in a shallow pan, preferably on a roasting rack. The rack helps to make the meat self-basting and it keeps the meat from nestling in the fat drippings. Grease, if you must, but with a vegetable oil.

Do not cover. Don't add water. You may baste with three-quarters of a cup of clear chicken broth or bouillon, to which has been added the juice of a medium-sized lime or lemon.

To help render fat from any roasting fowl (or meat), roast in a slow oven (300 to 325 degrees). It takes somewhat longer, but the succulent flavor of the meat makes it very much worthwhile.

Also, such slow cooking helps to avoid the need for basting. Consult your favorite cookbook for roasting time per pound at selected temperatures.

STEWED CHICKEN :- With due care, a stewed chicken can wind up as a true low-fat protein dish. The secret lies in the principle of allowing sufficient time for interruption of the cooking to defat the pot liquor {broth).

This is no guarantee that you will extract all the grease from a big, fat, old stewing hen, but the defatting always helps.

Video - Healthy Orange Chicken Recipe

Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email

We still prefer our meaty steaks and chops far too much.

We could our body a favour by avoiding these deliciously fatty food and start to eat more fish.

Besides being prime providers of protein and minerals, many species of fish are low in fat. Some are practically fat free.

Fish marine fats are definitely cholesterol-lowering so, if you can stand the calories, you can eat even the very fatty fish.

In all fairness, we must admit that there are some ”not-too-good” reasons for avoiding fish. Fresh fish is messy to prepare, and many homemakers are not too expert at cooking it.

This may be the reason why you so often hear, “Well, we like fish all right, but we only eat it when we go to a restaurant.” That's understandable when a restaurant specializes in sea food.

The fish is apt to be fresh-caught and most skilfully prepared—a good reason why you should patronize such establishments more often.

Also, except for some of the fatty fish, most varieties are not as “filling” as meats.

They don't have a great deal of satiety value, meaning that ”stick-to-the-ribs” quality which keeps your appetite satisfied for several hours after eating. The person who eats fish, may become hungry again an hour or so after his meal.

This defect also helps to account for the fact that fish is so often fried. Fried foods “stick to the ribs” better because of their fat content.

However, unless you have the weight problem, don't hesitate to fry fish if you want to, as long as you fry it in a vegetable oil—and treat yourself to the extra polys.

The people of Europe, particularly of France, have also tried to make fish more “filling” by using a variety of rich sauces which not only add flavor, but because of their fat content, make the fish linger longer in the stomach, increasing the satiety value.

Make and use such sauces if you don't have to count calories; but again, take the opportunity to get extra polys by using a vegetable oil.

At any rate, the lack of filling power helped to popularize the mistaken notion that fish proteins don't have the nutritional value of meat proteins. However, this just isn't true.

As far back as 1926, the British Ministry of Health underwrote a study of the comparative value of fish and meat proteins. Dr. E. L. Lowe, noted British nutritionist, was put in charge of the research.

He began by putting himself on an exclusive diet of lean beef; keeping very accurate records of his blood-nitrogen balance, and other measures of the relative value of proteins.

He made the same tests while on an exclusive fish diet, and found no laboratory evidence that fish proteins were inferior. A personal experience influenced him further.

After some weeks on a straight lean-beef diet, he noticed that his hair began to fall out at a greater rate than before. Not that he grew bald, or developed bald patches. He simply noticed more hair on his brush and comb, and counted the combings daily to be certain that his hair was thinning.

Satisfied that such was the case, he began to wonder whether there might be some vitamins or essential food factors missing in beef. He decided to add fish to his beef-only meals; within a week, his daily hair fall-out count grew noticeably less. He began to speculate on the possible reasons.

Was it because fish contained cystine, or a better array of the amino building blocks which go to make up proteins ?

He never did satisfy himself on this point. However, after a four-year study, he did establish scientifically that fish proteins are just as good, and sometimes a little better, biologically than beef proteins, or the proteins of other meats.

All this happened better than thirty years ago, which is a long time in the history of nutrition science. Our knowledge of proteins and their aminos has increased tremendously since.

Much work done in many learning centers throughout the world, has firmly established Dr. Lowe's basic contention that fish proteins are fully the equal of those found in meat. In short, you are not doing yourself any nutritional injustice when you eat fish.

Among the several different unsaturated fatty acids found in fish, but not in other foods, is clapadonodonic acid. This poly-rich fat with the strange name might possibly turn out to be the best anti-cholesterol agent of all.

Cod liver oil contains twenty percent of this factor. Arachidonic acid is another that is known to be an extraordinarily good blood-cholesterol clearing agent. Several fish oils contain as much as twenty-two percent, which is a “terrific” amount.

If your taste runs to fish from the sea, you'll be doing yourself an even greater nutritional favor. Without exception, seafood is apt to be richer in iodine than any other food.

Several high-ranking authorities who specialize in geriatrics (the care and treatment of the aging), feel that iodine is a food element of special value to men and women over forty.

Unfortunately, there is no acceptable, controlled research to prove this point beyond dispute. However, one top-flight geriatrician told me personally that he has been prescribing a small daily ration of iodine to his patients for twenty years now.

He is thoroughly convinced that his patients feel better for it, and that the little bit of extra iodine each day helps to improve their thyroid function; helps to give them welcome vigor and pep.

This is of special interest to us, because undoubtedly a slowdown of thyroid function seems to further the rise of cholesterol in the blood.

Several careful studies indicate that small doses of thyroid extract help to clear the cholesterol from the blood of patients with depressed thyroid action. Be that as it may, eating a frequent portion of seafood, will help to keep up the iodine stores in your body.

Fish also supplies an abundance of other trace minerals and generous amounts of B-vitamins. Red snapper, codfish, and flounder are excellent examples of this type of fish.

Oysters, crab meat, and lobsters are the least fatty of all denizens of the deep, and wonderful sources of protein and minerals.

These fish, too, are ideal for reducers.

In fact, a high protein reducing diet could be built around fish, which would put some of our current reducing diets to shame.

Video - Classic Rosemary Fish Recipe

Subscribe to Healthy Diet Food Plan Tips by Email
