Now that you have calculated your ideal heart rate range, you need to know how to find your pulse. There are three methods of determining how many times per minute your heart is beating. Two of these methods can be done manually with the aid of a clock or stopwatch; the third utilizes a small machine. You can take your own pulse at two points on the body: at the wrist and on the neck. Finding the right spots takes a little practice, but after you have identified them and become familiar with them, they will prove to be fairly easy indicators of your heart rate. The point on the wrist is sometimes easier to find. Find the point at which your forearm meets the hand. Place your first and middle fingers in the middle of that area. (Never use your thumb, as it has its own pulse.) You will feel a tendon or even several tendons in your wrist. Move your fingers slowly to the inside portion of your wrist until you can find the pulse at its strongest point.

The other point at which you can accurately measure your pulse is in the neck, at the carotid artery. I actually find it easier to take the pulse here. To find this artery, locate the point where the front of your neck muscles meets your throat. Move your fingers slowly up the inside neck muscle until you find the point ar which the pulse is the strongest. With your finger on either of these two spots, refer to a clock with a second hand or to a stopwatch. Count the number of your heartbeats for fifteen seconds. Then multiply that number by four to determine your heart rate per minute. A third option is to use a heart monitor. There are a number of heart monitors on the market. I personally like using these devices, as opposed to taking my own pulse, because they are typically very accurate and easy to use. The one I use is part of my wristwatch. All I have to do is look at my wristwatch, and I can see my heart rate instantly.

It may be too much for some even to think of drinking eight cups of tea a day but health experts say the intake can help fight heart disease, improve brain power and also boost longevity. (...)

It may be too much for some even to think of drinking eight cups of tea a day but health experts say the intake can help fight heart disease, improve brain power and also boost longevity.

Independent dietician Dr Carrie Ruxton's research on caffeine at King''s College, London, saw her review 47 published studies to reach the conclusion that caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee and cocoa have positive effects on mental function, increasing alertness, feelings of well-being and short-term memory.

It was already linked the drink's healthy antioxidant properties and high flavonoid content to preventing heart disease and cutting the risk of some cancers by precious studies.

Dr Ruxton has supported earlier reports by claiming that an optimal intake of 400mg of caffeine a day leads to "key benefits in terms of mental function and heart health." She assessed three studies, accounting for almost 90,000 patients, to find that drinking four cups of tea or coffee a day reduced chances of cardiovascular disease.

She also referred to another study of 26,500 middle-aged smokers, which hinted that men who ingested more than two cups of tea a day pulled down the probability of getting a stroke by 20 per cent.

Dr Ruxton insisted that she aimed to "debunk" false beliefs surrounding caffeine. Moreover, she asserted that people who avoid drinking team might be doing more harm than good. "People who cut out caffeinated drinks may miss out on the potential health benefits of the compounds they contain," the 'Daily Express' quoted her as saying.

She further suggested that there is no need for parents to stop children from drinking tea and coffee. In fact, she claimed it was better than juice in some regards.

Also, Dr Catherine Hood, of the Tea Advisory Panel, agreed to Dr Ruxton's claims. She said: "Caffeinated drinks have been unfairly demonised. Black tea, in particular, contains polyphenols, which are natural plant antioxidants. These have beneficial effects on many biochemical processes in the body because they protect cells against harmful free radicals."

"Flavonoids are thought to be especially useful, with a number of studies reporting a link between them and lower risk of heart attack," she further added.

For 4,000 years, the Chinese people have been using green tea as treatment for everything from headaches to depression.

Today, studies are conducted in Asia and the west in order to produce hard evidence of the health benefits of green tea. In the 1994 edition of the Journal of National Cancer Institute, the results of an epidemiological study stated that one of the health benefits of drinking green tea is that it can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by up to 60%.

The rich presence of catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the reason why green tea has so much health benefits. A powerful antioxidant, EGCG can not only inhibit the growth of cancer cells but can also destroy them without harming healthy cells.

The University of Purdue has also concluded a research on how a certain compound present in green tea can stop cancer cells from growing. Still another health benefit of green tea is its ability to lower down cholesterol levels and improve the ratio between good (HDL) cholesterol and bad (LDL) cholesterol.

I do not think there is anyone out there who does not know what heartburn is. (...)

I do not think there is anyone out there who does not know what heartburn is. The bitter bile taste in the mouth, the burning sensation in your chest and the terrible bloated feeling that comes with heartburn has plagued everyone at one time or other. When this symptom occurs once in a while, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, when the occasional occurrence turns into constant heartburn, then you have something to worry about.

What Happens When You Get Heartburn?
Simply put, you regurgitate acid from stomach back into the esophagus, which not only makes one gag; it also gives a terrible burning sensation due to its acidic nature. When this happens, the lower esophagus sphincter (a lid that closes the lower stomach to prevent food and fluids flow back into the alimentary canal) malfunctions and opens to allow the acid reflux (or flowing back). This acid, depending upon its strength, can flow back sometimes right till the mouth, leaving behind a very vile taste and uncomfortable feeling.

When constant heartburn attacks you, you need to see a doctor as this is a serious health condition. The doctor will normally give you anti-reflux medicines and peppermint based alkaline compounds which when ingested can neutralize the acid in the stomach.

There are a few precautions that would help you greatly in combating constant heartburn, naturally. Check out the following remedies and see whether you can get rid of your constant heartburn using any of the following advice:

Eat healthy meals, particularly those that include plenty of fiber and lots of fluids. Eat smaller meals at regular intervals, instead of large meals at big intervals. Avoid lying down and going to sleep immediately after food. Give your food one or two hours before to digest before you go to bed.

Do not exercise immediately following a meal. Keep at least one hour between your meal and your gym regime. Take extra care to stay within a normal weight range for your height and gender. Overweight people have more problems with constant heartburn.

Avoid at all costs foods that may be instrumental in provoking constant heartburn, such as caffeine, citrus, alcohol, tomato, chocolate, aerated drinks, and tobacco and so on.

If you are prone to get constant heartburn attacks, do not wear tight clothing, because besides being uncomfortable, they prevent the proper flow of fluids in the body.

Blood pressure is not constant. Only several readings by the doctor can confirm hypertension. (...)

Blood pressure is not constant. Only several readings by the doctor can confirm hypertension.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of high blood pressure

About 1 in 3 adults around the globe have high blood pressure. Although they are not the medicines and such, they surely are more effective in maintaining the overall physical and mental health of the individual. Therefore, mental health illness is associated to some extent with high blood pressure and leading to other physical illness as well.

The pressure while the heart beats is systolic pressure and the pressure while the heart relaxes is diastolic pressure. It is very unnatural for the pressure to stay high for a long period of time. The pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury and recorded in two numbers.

A healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grain, and low fat dairy products is vital. We should intake less salt in diet because more of sodium increases blood pressure levels. Visiting the doctor for checkups frequently leads to anxiety thus increasing your pressure levels out of fear. Medicines of high blood pressure should be taken under prescription of the doctor because you might have to take them for the rest of your life.

Your failure to maintain a healthy lifestyle and eating habits will result in resumption and slow damaging of your mental health and physical health. The blood pressure is considered high when it measures 140/ 90 mmHg or higher over a time duration.

Family, friends and social support groups can help in managing mental problems and inducing positive changes in the patient's lifestyle making it easier for them to proactively improve their overall health.

How can you prevent and control high blood pressure?

The blood vessels can accommodate optimal amount of pressure and if too strong pressure is exerted by the heart, it results in damaging them. Similarly, there is variation in blood pressure levels when you are sitting, running, walking, and standing. It can also cause a lot of damages to your mental health and other parts of the body.

Hypertension can show non-specific symptoms like headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. Drinking alcohol and smoking affects the blood pressure and mental health and therefore it should be avoided. If you have been diagnosed with a chronic disease like hypertension, it can vastly increase the depression and stress in you.

How is blood pressure related to mental health?

The systolic is written first and then the diastolic. In this age of medicine, it is particularly important not to underestimate the benefits of a nutritional diet, exercise and weight maintenance.

Being overweight increases the risk of high blood pressure. Only regular visits to the doctor can help diagnose high blood pressure. Maintain a healthy body weight. High blood pressure patients may not feel sick or ill but they are nevertheless heading for trouble if they do not bring their pressure under control.

Change in your lifestyle and healthy habits will help you to control your high blood pressure. It could adversely affect the body in a lot of different ways. Exercise everyday since it maintains the circulation of blood and lowers the risk of heart diseases and other mental health problems.

Blood pressure is measured with the help of a blood pressure measurement device. The definition of blood pressure is very self explanatory and it is the pressure applied by the blood on the inner walls of the arteries when the heart pumps it. High blood pressure or hypertension refers to medical disorder which can lead to and other mental health problems, cardiac failure, stroke, and kidney failure.

When heart beats, it exerts pressure on the walls increasing the blood pressure and when it relaxes, it exerts less pressure thus lowering the blood pressure levels. As heart beats and relaxes with a steady rhythm, the blood pressure levels also vary due to the alteration of heartbeats and resting period. As such there are no symptoms related, you can have high blood pressure for years without knowing.

If your father or mother is forcing you to take omega3 oils, don't complain. (...)

If your father or mother is forcing you to take omega3 oils, don't complain. If your friend says that he or she feels a lot better after taking in omega3 supplements, believe her.

Indeed, these essential oils are becoming a popular commodity. This could be because a lot of people now understand the potential benefits that they can get out of every capsule or gel.

The Secret of the Omega3 Oils

There are two good reasons why omega3 oils should be consumed. These are EPA and DHA. They are what you call essential fatty acids. They assist in the proper functioning and development of your brain and other parts of the body.

If it were not for the Eskimos who lived in the coldest regions of the planet, the rest of the world would never be able to discover the benefits of taking in these essential oils.

During the 1970s, scientists were curious on why Greenland Eskimos had low mortality rates. Also, most of them didn't suffer from cardiovascular diseases or hypertension.

The answer is on their diet. They are fishermen. They would normally feast on the fish they would catch.

However, these are not your ordinary fish species. They live in cold water, and they eat plankton and algae. Studies showed that they contain high levels of DHA and EPA.

What Are Their Contributions?

With EPA and DHA, you can actually prevent the occurrence of hypertension or the development of heart diseases.

This is because they can lower down the triglyceride levels in your body. They can increase good cholesterol, whose job includes getting rid of the plaques that are building on the walls and linings of your arteries and blood vessels.

With such buildup, they hinder the blood from flowing properly to different parts of the body.

They can also improve your vision. DHA, for one, helps in the formation of phosphatidylserine, which is a kind of neurotransmitter.

This is highly significant to make sure that your brain can function really well. Furthermore, these omega3 fatty acids can increase your memory retention and enhance your focus and sense of judgment.

DHA and EPA also offer therapeutic effect on people. That's why they are found to be extremely useful in treating depression, bipolar disorder, and even Alzheimer's Disease.

You see, you should also be taking omega3 oils too, just like your family and friends. Surely, you want to live as long as they do.

Can Aspirin Stop a Heart Attack?

Aspirin has been around as long as most of us can remember. (...)

Aspirin has been around as long as most of us can remember. It was introduced over 100 years ago as a fever reducer and pain reliever and since that time, it has made its way into virtually every medicine cabinet in the country. Over the past several years, aspirin has been touted to help reduce the risks of a heart attack when taken daily. It has even been suggested that if you have symptoms of a heart attack, taking a large dose of aspirin can help relieve the symptoms and keep you alive! So is it true? Can aspirin stop a heart attack?

First, let's define the problem. We all have small cell fragments referred to as platelets circulating within our blood. These platelets stick together to help the blood to clot and stop bleeding. In instances of cardiovascular disease, these platelets can block narrow arteries forming clots and impeding blood flow. When blood flow and oxygen are blocked from the heart for an extended period, a heart attack may result. Contributing factors to these occurrences are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and lack of exercise.

Now lets take a look at how aspirin works. Since ancient times, the bark of the willow tree has been used by the Chinese to control fever and alleviate pain. Then in the 19th century, acetylsalicylic acid, a derivative of the willow bark was isolated and so was the birth of aspirin. Aspirin can be used to block prostaglandins, which regulate certain vital functions within the body. Blocking these functions can cause a reduction in body temperature, relief from inflammation, aches and pains and interference in the formation of blood clots.

It is the clotting interference we are concerned with as it relates to reducing the risks and alleviating symptoms of a heart attack. There have been numerous studies to test the theories of aspirin benefits on heart patients. One such study showed that aspirin, when taken within the first hour of the onset of heart attack symptoms, reduced the instance of death from the attack. By inhibiting the ability of the platelets to stick together, aspirin slows the formation of clotting allowing a person precious extra minutes to receive the required medical attention.

And here is even more good news about the benefits of this particular heart disease prevention. Aspirin can drastically reduce the risk of ever having your first heart attack. Benefits from aspirin therapy, just 81mg per day, have been noted in nearly everyone who previously had a stroke, heart attack or peripheral artery disease. Also, those who've suffered from angina or had bypass surgery also found relief from symptoms.

There are some side effects of aspirin to be aware of. Namely, it can reek havoc on your stomach. Those with sensitivity to aspirin may experience nausea, vomiting, heartburn or even ulcers. Additionally, aspirin can increase bleeding and more specifically bleeding ulcers although these symptoms are normally noted with long durations of aspirin use or a past history of ulcers. It is important to consult your doctor before beginning an aspirin therapy to weigh the risks versus the benefits.

All in all, aspirin has proven to be very beneficial for heart attack patients and those looking to take preventative measures against a heart attack. So, to answer that burning question, "Can aspirin stop a heart attack?" I'd say the answer is a resounding, Yes! Yes! Yes!
