If you’ve kept up with the All-Star baseball action of the past week, you surely recognize the name Prince Fielder. The Milwaukee Brewers first baseman proved himself an athletic powerhouse by winning the Home Run Derby with 23 home runs.

But Fielder’s most impressive stat of all could be that he’s a vegetarian athlete. He stopped eating meat and fish before the 2008 baseball season (after his wife handed his the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin) and hasn’t looked back.

“I tell people I don’t eat meat, and they’re like, ‘Oh!’ They forget there’s so much other food out there. Beans, rice, tofu. You’ve got a lot of good food, baby!”

Does the fact that Prince is currently an all-star player have anything to do with his meat-free diet? Here’s a clue:

“Since I started [a vegetarian diet], I feel amazing. When I wake up, I’m up. I’m not lying around anymore.”

That’s one way to stay on top of your game!

Fergie, a.k.a. Stacy Ferguson, offers more than just moral support to recovering drug addicts- she offers her own experience of addiction and recovery. Fergie’s story of crystal-meth addiction comes out in the August issue of Marie Claire, told by the musician herself during a meeting of women with AIDS and HIV at a Harlem community center.

In the Marie Claire recap, Fergie sits in on a support group meeting and ends up sharing her own story with the women in the room. Her crystal-meth addiction followed a period when she felt lack of direction and creativity, after having been a successful child actress.

“I went on a downward spiral. I lost friends, family. Anyone who disagreed with my way of life, I cut them out.”

Through it all, and after many rock-bottom moments, she was able to make the decision to turn her life around and seek help from her family.

“It’s all about that moment when you have to make a life change - and you find the strength. I understand that,” Fergie said.  ”I call my therapist every other day. It’s not a one-stop shop. You have to push away all that negativity in your head. Face it, name it, let it go.”

Coming from one very famous and successful woman, this story is both poignant and personal. We’re impressed with Fergie’s willingness to help others by sharing her own difficult story. She’s truly a healthy role model today!

Think fast: what do actor Woody Harrelson and musician Alanis Morissette have in common?

You don’t know? Well, neither did I- until I heard about the duo’s new collaboration- a recycled denim line called Reco Jeans!

With their exciting fashion venture, Alanis and Woody have committed to putting the highest percentage of recycled materials into Reco jeans, and will stop at nothing to reduce the environmental impact of the company as much as possible.

According to a press release from Reco, “Because of the curvy cut of jeans today, a typical denim factory could easily waste up to 10 tons of material a month. The designers and scientists for [Reco] jeans have been able to cut into that waste by nearly 60% as well as reducing the amount of fresh cotton needed for jeans. This important because less land needed for growing cotton means less land polluted by helicopters spraying pesticides.”

Makes you think twice about your denim brand of the moment, doesn’t it?

Just as I was getting excited about the clothing swap that I’ll be attending this weekend, I found this great quote from Kim Kardashian about doing some clothing recycling of her own…

“I love to be able to pass along some of my favorite pieces to someone else who will get to enjoy them as much as I have. I even have many items I never had a chance to wear yet. A few times a year, I bring my outfits, shoes, and accessories to Auction Cause who puts them on eBay for me.”

If you’re a fan of Kim’s glamorous style, you might want to place a bid on some of the items from her closet at the Kim’s Kloset eBay store (as she said, they might even be new!).  All of the proceeds from her clothing auction go to Dream Foundation, a wish-granting organization for adults with life-limiting illness.

Heidi Montag Pratt has a new career and she’s not wasting any time promoting it!  The Hills star says she has decided to become a fitness expert as a result of her passion with staying fit and eating healthy.  She’s even ready to release a program called The Heidi Workout to show others how they can get in shape and lead a healthy lifestyle.

“Staying fit is something I’m really passionate about.  I work out with a strength-and-conditioning coach 90 minutes a day, five days a week”

Her workout consists of “full-body, intense resitance exercises” and was put together with the help of her trainer, Chad Waterbury.  The Heidi Workout will also offer nutritional advice based on guidelines Waterbury gave to the 22-year-old TV star.  Heidi avoids all “white” foods and fills up instead on lean meats including grass-fed beef , green vegetables, apples and berries.  Waterbury adds,

“Heidi has a really healthy appetite.  There’s no way she is going to deprive herself.”

Kate Winslet is refreshingly honest for an Oscar-winning mega-star. At 34, she may be the spokeswoman for a major cosmetics company and have her flawless face appear on magazine covers and towering billboards, but Kate’s not trying to kid anyone about the fact that she, too, has wrinkles.

“I have wrinkles here [she points to her forehead], which are very evident, and I will particularly say when I look at movie posters, ‘You guys have airbrushed my forehead. Please can you change it back?‘ I’d rather be the woman they’re saying ‘She’s looking older’ about than ‘She’s looking stoned,’” Kate tells Harper’s Bazaar.  

“The media plays such a big role in how women measure themselves against other women, so I can be in a position where I can say beauty comes from within, we’re not all perfect, and the covers of magazines are of course retouched. We do not look like that.”

Kate also says that there is no truth to rumors that she lost weight for this year’s Oscar ceremony.

“I’ve heard, ‘Oh, she’s toned and she’s lost weight,’ but I am exactly the same as I’ve always been. The one thing that had to go during awards season was exercise. People would say to me, ‘Oh, come on …’ like I was lying about it! Some may find it hard to believe it, but I don’t care about that stuff.”

And in spite of her gorgeous face and figure, Kate says she doesn’t think of herself as a beauty.

“…I think what you feel like as a teenager never really goes away. If you were teased for being fat or thin or having bad teeth, you’re always insecure about that particular area of yourself. So I’ve never thought of myself as any kind of beauty, iconic or otherwise.”

We say that she’s not only iconic, but a role model for us all!

Blake Lively is quite the anomaly in Hollywood.  She has a wonderful relationship with her co-stars (one in particular!), she doesn’t diet, never works out, can’t be found stumbling out of late night bars, and always looks amazing anytime we see her.  Whew!  Are we sure she’s not a robot?

In a new interview with UK Glamour Magazine, the starlet talks about her lack of willpower when it comes to dieting saying,

“I do panic before I have to wear a really skimpy outfit, but I don’t have enough willpower.  I had to do a scene in a bra and shorts for the first time in two years.  On the day of the shoot, I ate a pork burrito, chips and coke. Afterwards, I thought, ‘I probably shouldn’t have done that.’ But whatever.”

And about that never working out thing… the Gossip Girl star says,

“I have never worked out, but I know you feel better when you do so I am planning on getting a trainer.”

Even gorgeous, talented, Hollywood celebrities have insecurities.  Just ask Heroes star, Hayden Panettiere.  The actress says,

“The older I get the more comfortable I get with it, but I still have my days where I don’t feel great, and I don’t like this outfit or that outfit and I’m having my fat day where I have to put something baggy on and sweatpants or just with the way that people perceive me, I have plenty of insecurities I can go on and on.”

“I’ve never been one of those people whose been obsessed with working out or being super skinny because I’m just not. I’m not that. I have the body that I have and that’s not going to change as long as I try to stay as healthy as I can, and all that stuff.”

Sounds like she’s got a great head on her shoulders!  You can see Hayden in her new film, I Love You Beth Cooper, in theaters Friday.

Jessica Alba tells vogue.com that she’s got more than a few tricks for staying green, at home and on the red carpet. Check out her tips in the video, below. For one, she has grass made from recycled tires keeping her backyard green! Who knew? More from Jessica:

Bamboo is a great material that we use in the house, from our sheets to a lot of my daughter’s clothes.  What comes around goes around. From the way you live your life to recycling to the car that you drive, just being aware of that is the first step.”

This week, Gwyneth used her Goop newsletter to spread the word about some of the eco-friendly products that she and Cameron are currently coveting.
