Read The Signs Carefully

Does your pet have really bad breath? I don’t mean “Oops, you caught me eating poop, breath!” I mean vile, ‘something’s really wrong’, breath. You can see no sign of plaque but your vet tells you that your pet has dental disease and needs to have their teeth cleaned immediately. They may even suggest that the dental disease will subside if teeth are removed?

So you have these procedures done but the mouth still smells horrible. Here you are, a responsible pet owner and even though you subject your pet to regular anesthesia and plaque removal, your pet is still losing teeth. Why is this happening? It could be because it is not actually a true dental disease affecting the teeth, but rather an antibody deficiency in the gums.

You need to ask yourself, “Is the plaque significant enough to cause the gum adjoining that tooth to recede, leading to an exposed tooth root problem?” If not, the real cause may be a hormonal antibody imbalance that is leading to a deficiency of the protective antibody for the gums.

In 70% of the cases in cats and 30% of the cases in dogs, you will observe a small red line at the base of the enamel on the adjacent gum. If you see this sign, a blood sample should be taken, and if there is an IgA (antibody) deficiency, cleaning the teeth for dental disease will do you no good because your pet may be experiencing A Typical Cortisol Imbalance Syndrome (Plechner‘s Syndrome).

A Typical Cortisol Imbalance Syndrome, can be easily measured. Once your Vet draws the blood, serum samples need to be spun down immediately and refrigerated. If the sample reaches room temperature or higher, the test results will be incorrect and the actual cause of the disease missed.

They need to be sent to the lab by an overnight delivery service. A temperature strip should accompany the sample from the hospital to the laboratory to make sure the proper temperature has been maintained.

Michael and Terry Goldman live just outside the city limits of Klamath Falls, Oregon. They seem like just plain, real people, quite ordinary really unless you take into account the fact that they share their home with a big happy family of 19 dogs, 16 indoor cats and 21 outdoor cats. Their care and concern for animals has turned their home into a Domestic Animal Rescue.

Being “rabid” animal advocates (pardon the pun), they take in any animal that shows up at their door step without question. No credit check or references required. They have simply made a commitment to provide food, shelter, medical care as well as spaying and neutering, for all their feral rescues.
We here at the Healthy Pet Network Inc are proud of the fact that they are two of our founding members. Michael being the Business Director and Terry being our talented Webmaster and Designer. It shows you the type of people involved with the creation and operation of HPN. We are all dedicated animal advocates obsessed with the health of all pets and their human companions.

Besides the wonderful job they are doing for these animals, the most curious thing that I find fascinating is the fact that these feral cats are from a relatively rare and newly recognized breed of cat, called Scottish Folds. I find it amazing that this breed of cat has been abandoned to these wilds to remain homeless, and without the Goldman’s, they would have remained so until the elements and fate would have taken them.

I know that there are Scottish Fold Rescues, but how many feral Scottish Fold colonies (actually that should probably be CLANS) have been turned loose in the wilds to survive? I don’t believe there are many. Please contact the Healthy Pet Network.org if you have any information to the contrary. We would love to know and pass this information on to our readers.

I’ve been a veterinarian for over four decades and I have only seen a handful of these lovely creatures in the past 25 years. Each and every one could have joined my family with their wonderful personalities as well as the loyalty they show to their human companions. I find it very difficult to believe that even one of these cats could be subjected to a life without a home.

Upon researching this breed, I found that began it in 1961, on a farm, in Coupar Angus, which is in the Tayside Region of Scotland, just Northwest of Dundee. It so happened that a Scottish shepherd first spotted a litter of kittens with ears that folded down. This original folding of the kittens ears seemed to occur due to a spontaneous gene mutation.

The shepherd was totally fascinated, and asked the farmer if he might have one of the kittens. The farmer was obliging and this was when William Ross, through very careful selective breeding, was able to bring to life, the breed of cat known as the Scottish Fold. It was not until 1978, that the Scottish Fold was granted a championship status by the Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA).

We all know that the famous author, Ernest Hemingway shared his island of Key West, (surrounded by the Florida straights), with his multi-toed cats called polydactyls. Now we have the Goldman’s, sharing their “land island” (surrounded by a timber preserve) with their Scottish folds.

The Goldman’s, like many before , have found that the Folds can come in many color combination as well as having either folded or straight ears. Usually, if the folding is going to occur, it happens when the kitten is 3 to 4 weeks of age.

Please forgive me for complaining about being tired. I have worked at two different clinics for the past 23 days straight. At my age I should be retired and tending the garden, however, this is America in 2010 and it takes more than social security to get by. Living can be a struggle

Every day I drive to work, I see the people on the street that are trying so hard just to live. Some have to sleep under over passes to stay out of the rain. They push market baskets which bear their few belongings and where they slept last night may be different from where they sleep tonight.

They rummage through garbage cans and dumpsters, just trying to find enough discarded food to exist. I see this every day and know how hard they are trying to live. My heart is heavy for them, but also very respectful because they have not given up. God love them!

I have been given a wonderful gift and have been trying to make a difference. It’s important to leave on earth, more than you take. I also realize this gift could have been given to millions of others who may have done a better job than I but like the others I am doing all that I can and I’m not giving up.

I am thankful for this opportunity to make a difference and very pleased that I will do so now with the assistance of the Healthy Pet Network Team. They have pledged their talents to the task of explaining my findings to the world.

We are all humbled by this task but our mission is so important, we will do everything possible to succeed. This is America in 2010 and we are doing all that we can today, to make tomorrow a better day.

Many years ago Dr. Jeff Chung and I developed a very accurate cytotoxic (toxic to cells) food test. The procedure was to place, on a warm culturing slide, 40 different foods. The patient’s blood was taken and spun down. The top coat from the spin down, contained the white blood cells.

These cells were then placed on the various foods on the warm slide, and if a patient were reactant (allergic), the cytoplasm of the cells would contain vacuoles. I remember a male Doberman that was horribly allergic to tomatoes. When we placed his white cells on the plate with tomato, the white cells literally blew up.

Even though the test proved to be very accurate, the FDA decided that it should not be done in people and animals until they gave it their official approval. It was very frustrating to me because I knew from experience, they were not qualified to do this. Being basically, barely mediocre bureaucrats, they lacked not only the science but also the experience. Ah, well. Let’s continue.

We’ve already talked about the recognized signs of an allergic reaction in part 1 of this ongoing epic and how the medical profession for both people and animals, has merely identified the medical effects while the pharmaceutical companies continue to provide medications merely to treat these effects. I think the time has come to take a look at what actually causes these allergies to occur.

It seems to me you should not be content with just calming the effects of the disorder. I have always felt that it is our duty as medical professionals to uncover and remove the actual root of the disorder so that it ceases to exist altogether. I am a healer and will only be satisfied with giving my patients all that I have to give.

I know that most of you are aware of inhalants containing cortisone, such as Medrol packs for your asthma and all those steroids that are prescribed to you and your pet when you are suffering from allergies or even worse diseases. Most medical professionals say that even though these steroids supposedly have these great, short term effects, they cannot be used long term. In some cases they are correct because the professionals, for the most part, are not aware of how to safely use a cortisol replacement.

Cortisol replacement should only be given in physiologically small dosages as opposed to higher pharmacological dosages. Once the imbalance has been corrected, oral dosing should be continued on a regular basis, however, to keep the level physiological in a dog the cortisol needs to be used with one thyroid hormone = T4. In humans, the steroid needs to be used with two thyroid hormones, T3 and T4. This is of utmost importance when administering ongoing steroid replacement.

Throughout the past 43 years or so of my clinical practice and research, I have discovered the cause of not only allergies, but also auto-immunities and cancer. Yes, there is an identifiable cause. I have found a testable, treatable syndrome that can be simply identified with a blood test, if handled and refrigerated correctly.

A Typical Cortisol Imbalance Syndrome, identifies a cortisol deficiency or a cortisol defect that causes excessive adrenal estrogen production. This triggers the production of a reverse T3 which means that thyroid hormone is bound and can not be accepted by the receptor sites in the body.

It also deregulates the immune cells (disease fighting cells) instructing them to not protect you from viruses, fungi and other outside invaders. This deregulation also causes these immune cells to not recognize the body’s own tissue prompting them to make antibodies which can destroy red cells, white blood cells, muscle tissue etc. This deregulation could also allow uncontrolled tissue growth (cancer) and is the major defect which initiates all the auto-immune diseases that are plaguing the planet.

Some people don’t realize it but food allergies are very common in animals just as they are in people. You maybe able to find a new food that does not cause problems but this is usually a temporary fix. So what do you do? You can keep trying different foods, however, this will prove quite expensive. Some people keep experimenting until eventually the day comes when it seems that there’s nothing at all that their pet can eat, without health problems.

People ask why their animals react to some dog foods and not others. Food reactions in a normal patient can occur with bad formulations. Possibly, they got a batch with infectious bacteria or some other toxic matter present. It could be as simple as the commercial food product had too much fat or too much seasoning present which can also cause a bad reaction.

What about all those animals (and people) that have actual food sensitivities? I’ve had people ask me, why does my one dog have a bad reaction to the food I feed and my other dog doesn’t? Is there a basic reason why this occurs? Allergies often are genetically passed down but can also be acquired.

These patients have a hormonal-antibody imbalance that causes the protective “mucous membrane antibody” in the stomach and intestines to be deficient. It is called an IgA antibody. When this antibody is deficient (lacking), it creates other adverse reactions in this “imbalanced” patient. Many times you’ll find that the food reaction is much less severe than their reaction to an insect bite or a vaccine reaction.

What causes this imbalance? Why is the IgA antibody deficient?

The imbalance is due to a deficient amount of and/or defective natural cortisol that causes the pituitary gland to produce more of its hormone then necessary. When this occurs, it causes a sudden and excessive increase in adrenal estrogen.

This extra estrogen not only causes the binding (blocking) of the thyroid hormones, but it also causes the immune cells to attack and make anti-antibodies to any foods that are given to the patient, animal or human. If you do not correct this imbalance, eventually any and all foods will create bad reactions and cause serious damage to the patient’s system.

Are allergies just an inconvenience, or can they be lethal? A hormone antibody imbalance allergy can definitely worsen and possibly turn into a life threatening disease. How can you be completely sure that with stress, environmental toxins, genetic defects or other such factors, this will not further damage the body and turn into autoimmunity or cancer. You can’t!

You need to look to this syndrome, to find out if your pet or a human member of your family need to have a determining blood test and possibly hormone replacement administered to avoid a possible health catastrophe. We’ll have more in…

Your eyes are red your nose is runny, you’re sneezing and sniffling a sad victim of symptoms. There seems to be more and more out there suffering the signs and symptoms of allergies and most don’t even know what is really causing it. Just what is an allergy?

The word allergy was coined by Austrian pediatrician, Clemens von Pirquet back in 1906, from the Ancient Greek words, allos which means “other” and ergon meaning “reaction“. Pirquet noticed that some patients, upon receiving a second injection of horse serum or smallpox vaccine had quicker, more severe reactions than they had with the first injection.

An allergy is an overreaction of the immune system when it feels threatened by a protein of a food, a bee sting, a drug (like penicillin), or an airborne mold or pollen. If the body views this environmental input as an invader it releases an overload of histamines in response. This can create symptoms as simple as a runny nose, itchy eyes, hives and general swelling to more severe reactions such as vomiting, diarrhea, quickened heart rate and trouble breathing and even possibly a loss of consciousness due to a drop in the patient’s blood pressure. This is called anaphylaxis shock.

Even though, there are different ways to identify the culprits. Skin testing appears to be the favorite form of analysis primarily because several allergens can be tested at the same time.

Small amounts of specific allergens are administered to the skin usually on the forearm, upper arm, or the back. The skin is pricked so the allergen goes underneath the surface. The site is closely watched for signs of a reaction on the skin. These signs are usually seen within 15-20 minutes and are typically, a swelling and redness on the site. The reaction time and the size of the reaction will determine the amount of sensitivity that the patient has to that particular allergen.

Skin testing for food allergens can also be done, however, the test can appear negative even if you or your pet are actually allergic to egg white.
This is due to a partial protein called a hapten. When you ingest any food allergen, a partial protein called a hapten can join that food and cause a severe reaction…

Unlike a true antigen, it does not induce the formation of antibodies by itself alone. A hapten needs to bond to a carrier protein before it can induce an immune response that is a different from the allergy protein that is being tested for. Sometimes the hapten can even block immune response to the hapten-carrier adduct by preventing the adduct from binding to the antibody.

Once these allergens are identified a specific serum is produced and given in subcutaneous injections on a strict time table. This is thought to create blocking antibodies within the patient which prevent an over reaction to those certain allergens.

If this works for you or your pet, great, however, don’t just stop there. How are you going to keep yours or their systems from developing sensitivities to other allergens when you are actually only treating the signs or symptoms (the effects) and not the actual cause of these over-reactions? You need to determine what causes the immune system to overreact in the first place.

WHAT IS AUTO-IMMUNITY?

Auto-immunity is when the immune system makes anti-antibodies to self tissue.

When this happens the deregulated immune system can attack red cells = Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.

When this happens to the white blood cells this is called Systemic Lupus . If this problem is less serious, a butterfly lesion can appear on the nose or a sun burned like lesion that is referred to as “collie nose”. This is Discoid Lupus.

With this same imbalance depending on the impact area may react to platelets called auto=immune thrombocytopenia or when there is antibodies produced against the connective tissue in the nose and eye area (basement membrane tissue), is referred to as Pemphigus.
