Photos from Sunday’s crazy cold and windy Hypothermic Half Marathon in Stanhope, PEI. 75 runners and one walker with her dog. I love running, but I think really, honestly, deep down I get a high from being one of those crazy people you see out running with a group of fellow crazies in the winter. I’ve been running on and off for 33 years (I couldn’t believe it when I did the math) and have been running with The Running Room this winter and it’s been incredibly fun. Yes, fun! It’s a fantastic way to meet people and socialize. When you’re dressed for it, and not cold, and meet a bunch of super supportive, positive and happy fellow crazies hyped up on endorphines, it’s really fun. What more could this happiness-junkie ask for? Crazy fun! Woot!

Do you run? Would you like to start? There’s something for everyone. Come join us!

D is a professional residential and commercial painter extraordinaire and Dan is a master electrician. Together they can reno anything. A renovation dream team. D’s always loved the look and feel of our Cottage Studio and the portraits we’ve done in there, so we did a portrait session for her. Her home is filled with black and white photography. I love that. Very nice! Here are some of the shots we took. It may have been yet another very drab and rainy Island day outside, but the Cottage Studio was filled with laughter and sunshine.

Like lots of Canadian photographers, I’m very busy in the summer with sessions and personal work, but then things get quieter in the winter. For me anyway. But I am a complete creative junkie and I never stop. During the winter, besides designing, selling fine art photography and canvases, and product photography work, I’ve been renovating and decorating like crazy. I love decorating. Do you?

We realized a dream when we left the city and burbs behind and moved to a mini farm. Owning horses, designing, photographing and renovating a century plus old farmhouse, it’s a dream come true. And on Prince Edward Island to boot! Yes, like you, I love decorating and have 25 years worth of decorating magazines and switch the channel to HGTV whenever my husband leaves the room. We’re renovating our second farmhouse and loving it. Since decorating is a very big passion of mine, I thought I add it to the blog. The decorating theme throughout our home is, of course… dogs and horses. I’m always on the lookout for beautiful dog and horse decorating items which I will start featuring.

The print on the wall is “Master Bedroom” by American artist Andrew Wyeth, soon to be reframed. Love it! After agonizing over paint colours and consulting gal pal Leah, I went with Benjamin Moore November Rain (OC-50). Love it! And the black hardware from Weiser. Great quality! The new light fixture from Home Depot has a retro feel which I love.

Check out the before and after photos below. This back hallway was a nightmare to finish. I repeat, a nightmare! Three layers of wallpaper and two borders. After I finished removing the wallpaper there was so much repair that had to be dome it was so discouraging. Lucky for me I have a bunch of creative gal pals to help me. Like my friend D, The Paint Goddess. These are some of the before and after shots for the new blog I’m working on for her. Once it’s done I’ll blog that too. She amazing! Such a perfectionist. I could NOT have done this without her. Thank you D!

Oh and the saddle was not a prop. I had actually brought it in from the barn and plopped it on the floor at the door to the laundry room for the snow to melt off it. When I went to take the shots I liked it! Hope you do too. Enjoy!

Like many, I am a huge lover of black and white photography, but this island is world renowned for it’s beauty and its colour; its red clay. So what was I thinking??? I was thinking that PEI is so much more than our beloved red clay. It is a really cool place loaded with culture and personality. One of the things I love most about it is the Island’s dedication to the arts, theatre, music, and culinary is crazy huge here. It’s a cool place to be, even trendy. And I’m from Montreal, I like to think I know a little about trendy cool arts stuff. Here you can live in a restored barn or a resurrected heritage house and look out over the harbour and watch the cruise ships filled with thousands of visitors pop in to enjoy our island hospitality. Very cool.

So these photos are meant to show off my island. The way I see it. These canvases are up at TechnoMedia, the single best design firm in Charlottetown. A place I am lucky enough to be a part of. And that’s pretty cool too.

Among the family and friends, parties and shopping was a little trip to Knowlton, Quebec to visit our dear Bouvier-friends and a litter of pups. Here are a few impromptu shots we took. It is incredible that we didn’t come home with one of the two pups that were still available. Of course I could get in the truck and go back. The thought has crossed my mind. Are you surprised? Probably not, eh?

Looking for an original gift idea that will be treasured for years to come? I have been photographing the miniature horses of Prince Edward Island over the last year and have become completely intrigued by their beauty. I have been asked if I could make the photos available for purchase. Thank you for asking! So I have chosen a small selection of my favorite photos and made them available as print, canvas and framed photography. In the past my Christmas Gift Certificates for a Dog Photography photo shoot were a big success. A really special gift and people loved it. So again, here is a new and original gift idea for Christmas. Visit www.heatheroggphotography.smugmug.com and enjoy!

As you may know by now I am slightly fanatical for miniature horses. And I am not above pulling over and crawling around fields to photograph them. Last week I came across two minis lazing in the November sun. They immediately got up and came closer to check me out. One was alert and stayed farther back, and the other was very curious but stood just out of reach. She had dwarfism which is quite common in minis, and both seemed to be elderly and lame. We chatted a little and I continued on my way with a smile. They filled me with joy. That’s what minis do.
