Slow Progress

Slowly but surely, I'm getting some previously finished products listed. Such as this Hindu Gods Hand bag.

We lost two (count them -2) computers this year and most of the photos on them.

This little notebook that we were able to get working doesn't have the space to run adobe photoshop or store the huge data files that Erics SLR camera creates. So I've been re-taking pictures with my point and shoot, editing them on Picnik and storing them on a jump drive.

Where theres a will there's a way.

Anyway, it's going slowly but its going, so I'm happy.

I wasn't so happy to find out that Picnik is closing in April - but it looks like I'll be able to do some basic editing on Google and who knows by then we may be able to upgrade our computer.

I hope so. I have every intention to continue our family hiking trips/ photo safaris.

It wouldn't be as fun if the kids couldn't see the pictures they took!

Welcoming our new addition!

So on Thursday, January 5, We delivered our newest addition. Zane Anakin was born via c-section at 7:56 am - weighing in at 6 lbs 12 oz. 19 1/4 inches long.

I really thought he'd be bigger.

But just the same, he's healthy and cooperative, (he waited til the holidays were over!)

Sophie has decided that she does like baby brothers although she doesn't like that strangers flock around him and not her anymore.

So now she's becoming the expert on Zane so she can tell everyone about him. (putting herself back in the spotlight! LOL!)

Me? I'm doing fine. Took a week off to rest and recover, but since I'm not very good at sitting still I spent Sunday getting my house in order and yesterday setting up a schedule for working on my websites and art.

Since I'll be off work for the next 6 weeks and unable to drive for the next 4. (yikes!) I'm going to keep busy here. I have a ton of things to list on etsy and (if the kids cooperate), a few more pages to write and post on my website.

Oh! and I'll be enjoying my babies.

So I've been busy tidying up the virtual store front. Dusting off shelves, sweeping floors and polishing windows.

Mostly I've been re-listing while I work on new pieces in my spare time ( lol! spare time!)

This evening however I listed a Brand New never been in the spotlight piece! This is my Fossil and druzy embroidered collar.

I'm also excited to announce my little hope pixie doll has found a home!

She'll be on her way tomorrow morning.

On the Home front, I'm about 7 weeks till my estimated due date, still working at the Barrel, although I am slowing down a bit and my belly gets in the way.

My wonderful coworkers are betting on me NOT making it to my due date and cracking jokes every chance they get.

I'm looking forward to the end by not sooner than is safe or healthy and preferably after the holidays!

I'll try to get a belly shot from my phone.

So I just discovered my android phone has a blogger app!

This could be a lot of fun!

Just to update we finally moved to our own home back in June. And low and behold! We found out we were expecting in July!

Now that we're moved in and unpacked ( for the most part)
I've started a new project. The picture is one panel of a new purse.
I'm really loving how this is turning out!

By the way, I've discovered the only thing worse than picking seed beads out of the carpet is doing so over a baby bump that's kicking your organs.

Now to see how this app actually works.

Look, here comes the sun!

It's been about 8 months since I've last posted.

Last summer the universe turned my world upside down and shook.

At first I couldn't post. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep.

It took all my effort to go through the motions of my day.

I cried.

A lot.

As I went about putting my life back together I wanted to write, but I didn't know what to say.

I still don't really.

What looked like total annihilation was really just a miracle.

And for that I'm grateful.

I'd liken it to a wild fire.

Immediately after the inferno, while the ground is still smoking and everything is charred and black, it looks horrible, devastating, foreign.

But come the following spring...life begins to sprout through the ashes.

New life, new growth, new opportunities....

Oh! Look! Today is the First day of Spring!

How appropriate, I wish I could say I planned it this way but that would be a lie and I think I like the serendipity anyway.

So you're wondering what was the fire and what was the miracle?

I don't care to invest any more energy into the gory details at this point in time.

I'll just say the devastation was the perceived loss of my best friend.

I say perceived because he never really left, physically or emotionally.

He just had to work things out and in doing so he behaved completely out of character.

If I was anyone else, or if he were anyone else

it would have been the same old

"somebody done somebody wrong" song.

But I am me and he is he

(and we are we and I am the walrus cucukachoo)

and I love greater than that.

The miracle would actually be a series of miracles such as me stumbling

back onto the path I began years ago,

seeking the true meaning of love.

Discovering a way to share my knowledge with the world.

Rekindling a romance I had with myself long ago.

Healing old wounds from childhood.

Discarding limiting beliefs

Connecting with my Higher self

Releasing emotions that never served me well

Finding strength I didn't know I had

and Becoming more of who I really am.

I pulled out all my books, and bought some new ones.

I spent time in silence.

I sang from my soul.

I smiled at strangers.

I gave out kindness like candy on Halloween.

I felt deeply and opened my heart to let those feelings pass through.

I still have much to learn, habits to create and emotions to release. I'm Sharing what I know here

Rosie and Tiny - Two new Art Dolls

Here are the two mixed media dolls that I've actually finished. I said I'd post them here, although I'm not sure if they're finished.

I'm not happy with Rosie's wings. and her dress is lacking the busy-ness that I'm fond of , still I think she's wonderful .

Her limbs were made with Apoxie Sculpt 4 Lb. White and then decoupaged with green paper (don't ya love the Peter Pan feet!) The top part of her arms are buttons.

I adore this tiny doll, I wanted to give her wings too but I'm not sure what medium to use. Her legs were decoupaged with pages from an old almanac, she has a tulle skirt and her dress was from a shirt I no longer wear. (I love up-cycling)

I'd love to here your opinions on these, I'm still working on more but first I have to finish a jewelry piece that I started It was inspired by this:

a 4, 000 year old fossil turned cabochon I found at the flea market on Father's day!

So you got to see a glimpse of him a few days ago.

Feel honored, he takes fewer pictures than I do!

Then yesterday I posted a shot of one of his sculptures from last semesters sculpture class.

It's really cool up close!

Right now this is a hobby working on being a part-time job.

But sooner than we imagine, it'll be his full time gig!

And that is why I don't complain when he monopolizes the computer!

Happy Father's Day!!

Just a great wonderful, day hanging with the kids!

We went treasure hunting at the flea market, painted rocks on the porch, snapped pictures and cooked out on the grill!

It was just like Paradise!

He kept trying to sneak pictures of me so I took one of him taking a picture of me!

Melody's Glen - a New necklace!

This is my newest piece, I love how it all came together.

The Pendant is embroidered, obviously.

The big green stone, I believe is Nephrite Jade.

The smaller one i'm not sure about. It has a crackle effect on the inside, a bit milky in places and more translucent in others, It's got an earthy green color along the edge that darked to a brown on the bottom.

The necklace itself is a right angle weave. I'm not a big fan of weaving, I tend to get bored with the repitition but this went really quickly. Even with re enforcing the edges with a second pass to make it sturdier.

I used size 11o seed beads (the weave is prettier with bi-cones but I didn't have that many)

Overall I'm really excited about combining the two techniques

which sent me looking for more techniques and weaves to learn. I have a ton of free sources but I stumbled across this and I'm so tempted to get it!

Internal Beliefs

Been doing a lot of reading about internal beliefs and how to change them.

This is an extension to the Law of Attraction. Apparently its not enough to think about what you want or even to feel really good about what you want.

Ultimately you have to believe you can get what you want; that you deserve it and can obtain it.

Sometimes what we want and what we belive we can get or deserve are so polar opposite that we repel the things we want the most.

Rather than stew over the beliefs I need to change; I'll list the ones that work for me.

I believe people are inherently Good.

I believe everyone has beauty and value and should be treated with respect.

I believe people like me.

I believe I'm incredibly creative.

I believe everyone has the ability to enhance the creative nature that may be lying dormant within.

I believe I have something to offer the world.

I believe we should take a moment to quiet our minds and feel (if only for a few minutes a day)

A long time ago, I had this idea of what a relationship should look and feel like.

I believed that two people sharing thier life together should be able to lean on each other.

They would support each other in the face of adversity,

celebrate together all victories,

mourn together all losses.

They would respect each other, have some things in common, and some differences.

Have things to do together and things they'd do apart.

I believe they should speak fondly of each other in public, speak civilly to each other during disagreements and show gratitude and appreciation toward each other often.

These two people, sharing a life together, would know each others proudest accomplishments, greatest dreams and darkest fears.

They would NEVER EVER intentionally use the others wounds as weapons

and would freely apologize for unintended transgressions.

They would be friends and they would eagerly anticipate coming together after being apart.

Together they could TRUST and FEEL SAFE.

Together they could acheive any goal.

I was told it wasn't possible, that I was unrealistic and naive.

When I chose to believe it that it was possible

and that the person disagreeing with me was wrong,

I found that relationship.

I'm still here!!!

I've been gone for a while. Lots of life stuff happening, but in my down time I've been working on some dolls and a few piecees of jewelry - pictures to come soon!

Here's somethings I can share!

Elizabeth and I spent the weekend reading the

Percy Jackson & the Olympians.

From now on, I READ FIRST, because I read faster.

She read the first book on Saturday, (I read it at Christmas time) then started the Second, which she finished on Sunday and then immediately started the Third.

So I picked up the second book and finished it last night and of course I really wanted to read the third because they end suspensfully but I couldn't because she wasn't finished with it.

By the time she finished it this afternoon, I was in the middle of something.

It's probably okay that I had to wait because we all know I can't put a story down until it's finished. And we only have the first three book...So I'd want to go get the next in the series...

Eric finished his sculpture class and I've been able to play with his supplies....LOL!

(is nothing sacred!?!)

I've been making doll limbs with this Apoxie stuff. It's fun but tricky. It slowly dries hard so I haven't been able to do faces with it, I still prefer SuperSculptey for faces!

I'm really excited

about the few dolls that I've been working on, but I can't decide if they're finished or not.

It just seems to me they're missing something...

perhaps I'll take pictures anyway and ask for opinions.

So I'll end this quick post with a Sophie story that has everyone cracking up.

Sophie started Daycare about a month ago.

She loves it, they love her - she's wonderful, well behaved, agreeable.

...until she get home.

She's been grumpy, ornery and stubborn.

So we're sitting at dinner, after a really long day.

Sophie has Ham and mashed potatoes on her plate.

(I didn't bother with the green beans because I knew she wouldn't eat them.)

She decides she doesn't like mashed potatoes, in fact She HATES them.

And she's grumbling this to her plate as she pushes them around.

I'm rather frustrated with this after my long day.

So I put my fork down and look across the table at her and say,

"Sophia, eat your potatoes. You like them."

And she replies,

"No, they're yucky, I HATE them."

My response was,

"You CAN'T hate potatoes, We're Irish, Dammit!"

to which, she grumpled to her plate,

"Yeah, we swear."

Eric and I had a hard time swallowing our laughter.

I gave up the battle, it wasn't worth it.

However I have been recieving Gretchen's newsletters for a few months now and she shares some interesting insights

One of the little things I do on a regular basis is to smile at people...strangers...

It was a game I challenged myself to years ago, when I was younger and incredibly insecure.

I made a point to make eye contact and smile at gas station attendants and cashiers, before I asked for anything or answered they're questions.

Amazing things happened!

People smiled back.

They remembered me.

They're faces would light up when I returned

For the first time in my life I realized

I wasn't invisible.

These days I'm a waitress so smiling at strangers is a habit.

People patronize resteraunts for the food, it sells itself.

but since I rely on tips to pay my bills I deliver more than just food.

I offer

kindness, patience and joy,

as well as good service and food.

For that I get tipped very well.

My favorite guest is the elderly person who maybe doesn't get around very well,

or can't hear so good. Maybe they speak softly or aren't really sure what they want to eat.

Or worse,

they've been accustomed to being

dismissed,

disregarded,

overlooked.

I give them the best, not because they tip well,

(they can't they're on fixed incomes,)

I squat down to be at eye level, lean in closer to hear them better.

I speak low and project my voice out so they can hear me.

I muster up the patience of the saints as they ponder over their meal.

The resteraunt could burn down around me but I won't waiver my focus until I've finished attending to them.

I check back on them often, making sure their drinks are filled, bringing napkins before they ask, and boxes to take home the leftovers.

I give them my best and they appreciate it,

I can tell by their smiles that for this short visit they realized they weren't invisible.

Serving others brings me

What's for Dinner?

We only really eat one meal a day, Eric and I.

We might pick and nibble and graze a bit through out the day but

Dinner Time

is when we sit and eat a real meal.

On the days I'm off, and Eric works, I make a big dinner for us to sit down to together.

On the days we both work, I whip up something quick so we can sit down together.

On the day's that he's off and I work, I expect him to cook, especially because it's usually a Sunday which is my busiest day and longest shift.

But today he didn't....he spent 5 hours on a power point presentation and 3 hours watching movies with Sophie, (she insisted)

So he asked me what I had a taste for I suggested we go back to Cracker Barrel for this!

Marinated grilled chicken tenderloin on a bed of fresh baby spinach and mushrooms topped with our own hickory-smoked bacon and blue cheese crumbles. Garnished with hard-boiled egg wedges and served with a special warm bacon dressing on the side.

I've been serving it all weekend and so wanted to try it!

So we order and our food comes and Sophie must have been 'starving'

(like she said she was)

because she dug into her 'chicken nuggets, macaroni cheese and ketchup'.

(She ordered it herself)

She was half way through it when she pushed her plate away and announced she was done.

But resteraunts are horrible places because she still has to sit and wait for mom and dad to finish eating.....and they talk to much...

She happened to notice my plate as I sat there happily cutting my baby spinach into bite size piece and totally perplexed she askes

"Why are there leaves in your food, mommy?"

"It's spinach. Want some?" I reply

She grabbed a leaf that hadn't been cut yet and twirled it in her fingers

"Why are these leaves in your food ?"

"Those leaves ARE my food honey, and they're good!"

She looked at me like I had lost my mind.

I can't wait til we get our house so we can grow a garden together,
the child has a lot of living yet to do!

The Salad, by the way, was wonderful!

I do so Love reading! I'm so bad though,
like a kid with free reign of a candy store.

I have no self control.

I devour books at record pace, especially fiction novels.

I bought Eric "The Lost Symbol" for the holidays and finally got around to reading it. Absolutely wonderful! Couldn't put it down! LOL!

He enjoyed it too but told me I wasn't allowed to read it because it would set me off on a tangent and he would never here the end of it!

Oh silly boy!

You've been warned.

I've told you numerous times to NEVER tell me what I can or can not do!

The rebelious streak (a gift from my mother) will surely win out over logic and reason!

The story line was classic Dan Brown, uncovering a consspiracy theory, rich with historical references. But what intrigued me the most was the references to Noetic Science

That book makes reference to this one, so of course I had to have it.

It came in the mail yesterday and I carried it with me through all my taxi- mom duties and sat with it while dinner was cooking and then at the end of the night while I periodically yelled to the boys to be quiet and go to sleep!

I know now why Eric was reluctant to share this with me.

And he's right,

he'll never hear the end of it!

In a nutshell, The Intention Experiment shows how science has proven that our thoughts can change matter. That the Law of Attraction can and does work.

That meditation and focused intention can heal both people and places....because we truely are connected to all life on earth.

I've been saying it all along. I believed it long before "The Secret" came out.

I haven't gotten to the part of the book where she shares the practice, and explains how to "intend" but I suspect it's similiar to focused meditation and visualization techniques I've picked up over the years.

So If you look closely at the charms,

you can see some of the beads from the Gemalicious Gals stash on this bracelet.

The flower caps, (which were the inspiration) the large and small green stone beads, and the pearls.

Once I had this finished I showed Beth who exclaimed,

"Oh, Mom! It's like a Fairy Garden!"

Which stimulated a section of my

brain

that immediately spewed out a story line.

Now I haven't actually written a story since high school, but I've always thrown out creative writing promps for the kids and let them tell me the story.

They have Great Imaginations!

But in the last month, as I've finished jewelry and in my process of writing descriptions,

I 'see' its history,

where it was worn,

by whom,

why

the reactions of the characters.

I 'see' two realms previously seperated but forming coalitions,

The Fairy Realm is led by Queen Sofee

The Water Realm is ruled by the MerQueen Lizette.

Yes, I'm so unoriginal, my Queens were named after my Princesses,

I'm not sure where this idea is going, I'm just kinda running with it, so be on the lookout for new listings!

Fun Stuff and Progress Pictures!

Thought I'd share a little bead candy!

This is from the stash that I won from Gemalicious Beads' Blog contest

(good idea for you to stop over there and follow as they do quite a few giveaways!)

I'm having so much fun creating but I'll save those picts for another post!

So Sophie and I are at the kitchen table going through my new stash baggie by baggie

while Eric and Matt are at the stove cooking dinner-

(He's still not sure how I conned him into making dinner)

And I come across this strand.

I hold it up Vanna Style and Say,

"Lookit Daddy! Aren't these yummy! Like Sugar coated candies!"

Immediately, Sophie snatches it out of my hand and pops it into her mouth like a candy necklace!

Her eyes

shiny and excited!

It only took her a second to realize her folly. She handed them back to me saying

"It not candy, mom."

These briolettes got my heart racing

I'm awaiting some sterling wire to wrap them into treasures!

Ever wonder how something like these are made? To me it seems like magick. It's wonderful and amazing and makes my heart race at the beauty of it.

I like to believe people who can make this kind of magick must be blessed by the Gods and deserve our utmost adoration!

Update on Lakshmi and some new jewelry

Well I succeded in getting the cabs secured and started on her sari. You can see the center cab here, it will actually be a pendant for one of her necklaces once I get the rest of her body covered in beads.

Here's a side view of the beading around her face and neck. The pink is the closest I had to skin tone so it's going to work. The black area is her hair and the gold will be her crown.

Heres a good view of her crown base. Somehow I'm going to have to give it height. I haven't figured it out yet but I'm not going to sweat it either. I trust some form of divine inspiration will occur to me when I get there! *grin*

Eric and I are going out next Saturday - WITHOUT kids! This will be the first time in like 5 years!

He has a work-related dinner at a local steak house and I'm so excited!

Because we've never gone out with other adults!

So of course I had to make some jewelry for this occasion!

I actually made this necklace last month but it was missing something. So I found this great silver plated stamping to create a pendant for it. I 'll be working on that tonight once the kidlet is in bed.

I'll add updated pictures once I finish it!

Then I fixed up these earrings to go with the necklace. Yes they're bold, but then this would be and acceptable event to wear such bold jewelry and you know how much I want to wear bold jewelry!

(Is it just me or do these earrings resemble some fancy bellydancer top with fringe?)

Yes, I'm asking if the earrings, hanging side by side, look like decorated boobs.

Well I think they do and it makes me laugh!

This is the last piece, a charm bracelet, I love how they feel and I was really excited whin I figured out how to photograph them - on an upside down wineglass.Charm bracelets never look right just lying on the backdrop or draped over a seashell. The wine glass lets the charms hang freely, like they would on your hand!

Well it's time to put the kidlet in bed. She HATES winter btw, or so she's told me 10 times in the last 15 minutes...
