Metallic Coffee Table….

This little coffee table was so fun!! I scored this cute little find at a garage sale. I purchased paintable textured wall paper and cut it to fit in the top….I followed the manufacturer’s directions.

The next step was a coat of primer over the whole coffee table. I painted Martha Stewart’s metallic paint in Silver Leaf over the entire coffee table.

I mixed a glaze of a very dark silver paint, black paint and glaze and went over the entire coffee table. I’m pretty excited about this pretty little table!!!

Family Message Area…

Well…upon much protest from my husband I changed a tiny little wall in the kitchen. I had a wire rack that had pictures stuck in it and keys hanging on it and just generally looked a mess (I forgot before pics)

I make message boards with a chalkboard surface or dry erase for my crafty business but believe it or not I didn’t have one. So as I was cruising through Pinerest I stumbled upon this blog post with a fabric covered magnetic board….and was inspired.

So I went to Walmart and bought 2 matching frames for $5 each. I did a fabric covered magnetic board for one and I dry erase magnetic board for the other. Then I screwed hooks into the bottom of the dry erase one to hold keys.

Of course I had to make my own magnets…so I made silver and black glitter magnets. The black was quite as sparkly as the silver….but I was still excited about the results!!

So between sick kids, school work and crafting for my little business I have been trying to sneak in some Pinterest projects….

Fabric Covered Boxes…..So Easy….

First off….pizza with Cauliflower crust….was delicious! Everyone in our house ate it and loved it and there was not one complaint!! Here’s the recipe.

I started the daunting process of cleaning my daughters room. I don’t know why I let them get so bad before I take care of the problem. So this time we are doing some new organization.

I am going to have my husband take the closet doors off for us and maybe hang some curtains on the inside….or figure something out. I’ve never had good luck with closet doors and I’m tired of them. So to get started on that project I’m going to have to tidy up the closets.

The first thing I did was to hang hooks all along one section of the closet for my daughters many costumes (her favorite being a red Power Ranger costume…when she wears it she makes us call her Scott.) My kids love to dress up so this will hopefully (fingers crossed) keep the costumes off the floor.

So the next problem to address (not really a problem because I’m so grateful for it….) are the two bins of hand me downs from my sister-in-law and the unsightly shelf.

Now keep in mind…these boxes AREN’T perfect and they are messy…but on a shelf 6 feet up they look great! The cost $0….can’t beat FREE!!!!

So don’t mind the clothes in between….they do need to be sorted out and clothes that are too small pulled out!

Here’s the steps for the boxes….I scored my boxes from a liquor store. They stack them up outside every day. I grabbed 4 to get started.

While the glue gun warmed up I measured my boxes by measuring the height+width+height+4” and then height+length+height+4”.

I cut my fabric and quickly ironed. Then I centered my box on the fabric and folded up the corner to figure out where to start gluing….I placed quite a lot of glue (I’m quite adhesive happy) on the corners. Folded all four in then I started on the sides.

After all 4 corners were done I pulled the sides up to fold in to make a somewhat flat surface…with gathering at the corners. (Hopefully my pictures will show better than I’m explaining)

I put the box on its side and went crazy with the glue and folded the flap down.

Do all four sides and the box is finished. Now you could do it much neater and line the inside to hide the mess…but beings as mine aren’t going to be used for anything but storing extra clothing I wasn’t too worried about that.

For the chalkboard on the side. I cut a piece of chipboard 3”x5” and a piece of chalkboard Contact Paper….about 4”x6”. Put the Contact Paper on the chipboard and trim corners like so.

Fold the edges to the back side….Hot glue on and the boxes are ready to go!!!

So super sloppy…I didn’t buy any supplies…I just used fabric that I had hence the hodge podge of fabrics. When you pick fabric, use a thicker fabric. My light pink box is so light you can see the writing through the fabric.

Tomorrow I will wrap up P’s bedroom and get started on my sons….

Pinterest Inspired Weekend….

I had a busy weekend….spending time with my cute little family…cleaning…organizing…and finishing up little projects I had laying around.

Saturday morning we started the day off with one of our favorite new breakfasts we got off Pinterest….the only thing I do is I put them inside cupcake wrappers so they don’t make a huge mess in the pans.

I was able to move around my dollar store apothecary jars (see prior post) and filled two of them with wine corks for the kitchen….not sure where the third will go yet.

I made a lotion mix I got off Pinterest from this website….for my incredibly dry dry hands. So far so good! No burning from the lotion and my hands are incredibly soft!!! It goes on very thick…so a little goes a long way!

I wrapped up and put backs on almost 80 pop can flowers to sell at a tradeshow and on my Etsy Store (which is kind of bare at the moment!) Check out my Facebook page…I just jumped on the bandwagon and got it started!!

Sunday was all about vinyl….I started the cleaning my office/craft area. Wow….I had to clear a path to get through the door. I hate that I let it get that way, it’s so unproductive.

I started cutting vinyl. I took a lamp that I bought for my daughter at a consignment store and added some pink flowery designs to it….it’s pretty self explanatory. I cut the vinyl with my Cricut. To know how large to make the design I measured the width of the lamp. Which was 3 1/2”. Hit the Fit to Length feature button on my Cricut and set the size dial to 3 1/4”. It automatically calculated that the design needed to be 3” tall. So I cut out six (I didn’t put any on the back) and went to sticking.

I cut out 2 chandeliers to go on my boring gray laptop in black and pink. I could have swore I had white vinyl…but I couldn’t find it. I would like to add a 3rd on in the lower left corner in white.

Then I made the “Bat Signal” as my son calls it to go above his desk in his room. However, I was informed that I did it wrong so when I tackle organizing his room this week I will redo it. Evidently the bat is supposed to be black not yellow…but I was just following the picture on the box for the Cricut cartridge….sigh.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! This week is my first official stay-at-home mom week…no working until April when my life saving and sanity saving mother-in-law returns from her vacation. So it will be interesting to see how it goes! I plan on getting lots of school work done, crafting and working through my house cleaning and organizing one room at a time!!

Everyone Has Stuff They’re Good At….

I have discovered or…rather remembered after about 3 hours that I can not bake….no matter what I do or try I just can’t bake. I’m not sure what makes me think I can….I suppose the getting lucky and finding the perfect cookie recipe added to the confidence that I had going into the kitchen today. Needless to say it isn’t a pretty site.

My day started off very productive…with another Pinterest project. I made the Apothecary Jars off of Dollar Store Crafts blog. Here is a preview and a link to the tutorial.

I bought the last three tall vases at our Dollar Tree, 3 candle sticks and a set of 4 glass bowls. I also ran to Home Depot and purchased the knobs for the lids. I used my trusty E-600 adhesive to glue the candle sticks on the bottoms of the vases and the knobs on the bottoms of the bowls….and there they sit. While I patiently wait for them to dry until I can put them to use.

Then I moved on to the next project….pop can flowers. I had a stash of about 20 cans that needed cut up and backed with foam. Then I started cutting with the help of one of the best little crafters in training I know. When that project was all said and done I now have 70 flowers that need assembled.

So after this started the trouble with my afternoon. I found a super yummy recipe for Oreo Cupcakes on Pinterest. I got out all the goodies and put them together. Well….I thought I was doing good until after they were in the oven for a few minutes I realized I hadn’t set the timer. That’s okay right….I’ll just keep a constant eye on them and they will be fine.

On to the next project. I went with Mini Banana Cream pies also a recipe off Pinterest. Well I went the lazy route and bought the graham cracker crust already done….little ones. They looked so cute and yummy! I made the filling…it doesn’t taste half bad. So I think I’m golden. (I’m still checking the cupcakes and they are not done.)

Get all my little mini pies done and I’m going to put caramel drizzle over the tops of them….well it was pretty for about 32 seconds…then because the filling was still warm I now have a total disaster. My pies are edible but they don’t look it.

Back to the cupcakes…in a matter of nano seconds…I’ll be darned if they didn’t get a little golden…and by a little golden I don’t mean burnt…but golden enough to be crunchy….yes crunchy. I can still save this I’m thinking….so I make the frosting. But guess what….my $10 mixer from Wal-Mart decides it doesn’t want to work anymore. So now I’m whipping frosting by hand. Which tastes like….well….not good.

So at the end of my baking experience….I have 11 gross looking mini banana cream pies….a cooling rack of crispy cupcakes….and a burnt up mixer! Go me!!

So I think the best thing to do is give it up for the day and try again tomorrow!!!

Pinterest Project….Dollar Store Mirror

Okay….so I took a pinning break and tried it…my little helper and I went to Dollar Tree this morning and bought the supplies listed on the Dollar Store Crafts Blog….I am not taking credit for this project. If you would like step by step directions they have a great tutorial. I followed the directions and this is what I came up with. I am not 100% happy with it yet. I think that to go with my décor and the space I’m putting it in I will actually go get 6 more mirrors to make it bigger and reinforce it better than I did.

My Little Helper and I picked out silver frames that are kind of aged with a brown….which I’m glad I did. It really lightens up the area that I put it!

Now….don’t mind the dust it may have been awhile since I last dusted….

All right….so there you have it. I will testify that the Pottery Barn inspired mirror from the Dollar Store Crafts website was easy and fast to make…as well as inexpensive. So far I have $10 into it and when I purchase the 6 additional mirrors I will have $6 more into it. Not bad for a quick facelift and something new!!

Pinterest Band Wagon

So I'm pretty terrible about posting regularly....however....I have jumped on the Pinterest band wagon and have been pinning and thinking about crafting pretty heavily. (Follow me on Pinterest)

I've had lots of changes in my little life. I'm no longer working a regular job. I'm substitute teaching when I have the time and am going back to school for my degree in elementary education. I have also hit the craft show circuit with my friend DeeDee @ UmWow Studios. Here are some shots from the latest craft fair:

So in a small nutshell that's what I've been up to! DeeDee has also encouraged me to get going on my blog again so....that's what I'm going to attempt to do!!!

Mama-Razzi!!

I follow my kids around daily to snap them in all their cute little things that they do on a day to day basis. My son (who is 5) already gets annoyed when I get my camera out. But he’s so stinking cute I can’t help but take pictures!!!

When I first saw Bo Bunny’s Mama-Razzi line I was so EXCITED!!! The colors are great and the line is amazing! So for months I have drooled over it every time I saw it in a magazine. I made a promise that I would not buy many scrapbook items so I could use up some of what I had. This has been a good thing as it has eliminated my “collecting” habit that I have.

Well at ScrapFest I broke down and bought some of the papers from the Mama-Razzi line. I have created a layout today using it…this is a layout I have created for a challenge. The challenge is to use a large diecut and cut it half and off center the halves on the page.

I cut the medallion shape out using the Storybook cartridge on my Cricut. I selected the Fit to Page option which cut it 11 and 1/2 inches. I distressed the edges with my Distress-it-All and inked of course!!!

The flowers were cut from George and crumpled inked then sprayed with Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist to help the ink spread!

UmWow!!!

Well I did my first UmWow Sketch Mania submission ever (Check out Sketch Mania here!!!)…kind of! I took DeeDee’s sketch that looks like this:

I cut 5 3/4” squares then inked them with distress inks…spritzed them with water inked a little more. Inked a stamp with embossing ink…sprayed it with water and stamped it to create a subtle design in the Distress Inks. I’m doing a Think Ink class this month through another scrapbook group on Cafemom I’m in so I’m learning all kinds of exciting Distress Ink tips!! I’m also thinking that my 4 meager Distress Inks are not longer adequate.

The flowers were large white flowers I inked w/ Walnut Stain distress ink and sprayed with Glimmer Mist…my new FAVORITE!!!

So without further ado…here’s my layout!!

I am going to try to do the other sketch and the new one!! We’ll see how it goes!!

I am! I’m jumping at the gun too for my Glue Glider to get here!! I am in LOVE with Vario Hermafix…but I may have found a new adhesive that I like better!!!! Here Michelle and I (that’s my excited face :0) are at Scrapfest testing them out…simply AMAZING!!!

This is another fun ScrapFest layout that we “lifted” from the check-in Table!

But enough about ScrapFest! Here’s a cute layout I did with I think My Mind’s Eye paper of my Favorite little Niece!! She’s so stinking cute!!

My Scrappy Space Now!!

So before I get started…I personally think that the best thing about being a Mom are the random things that my children (Sammy – 5 and Paige – 2) do for me to tell me or show me that they love me. My son says once or twice a day “Mom I sure do Love You!” and occasionally I get the random flower picked from the flowers in the yard…or the yellow ones growing in the grass…none the less it makes my heart smile just the same!!

So I didn’t clean up very well when I took these pictures! I have decided to go with a Black, White and Pink theme in there! It is so much fun!! I am wanting a black chandelier eventually in there and a black counter height table in the middle…but I think I can make due for now!! lol…

This first pictures is now the view from the far door. I just put up the Chandelier black and white curtains yesterday and I’m way excited about them!!!

This is the wall to the right of the main door…still pretty much the same as last time…my inspiration board is starting to fill up though!! I’m running out of wall space though so I don’t have room for another one :-(

Back From Scrapfest and Some!!

I’m not sure how the heck Michelle traveled with me…I’m seriously the worlds worst traveler. Evidently I was such a wreck the guy sitting kitty corner from me on the plane couldn’t quit looking back at me…seriously!! Here we are getting to the Rapid City Airport to fly out! I don’t look it…but I was a hot mess of nerves! lol…

What a fun weekend! Scrapfest itself was slightly disappointing…however….spending the weekend with Michelle, her Mom and Niece was lots and lots of fun!! Lots of giggles, laughs and good times! It was also lots and lots of fun to meet Dan from Fancy Pants and Madison from Echo Park Paper. I’ve “met” these guys on the phone so it was great to put faces to voices!!

So the Make and Take lines were CRAZY!! There were women who brought chairs so they could sit in line…before we left I was super super excited to stand in line for however long for every make and take. I made it through one line and then gave up :-( My stamina wasn’t quite what I hoped….Lol…

Michelle and I also happened to be in the right spot at the right time…and yes…we did get a photo with Tim Holtz!! How great is that??!!??

So we didn’t have the brilliant idea to get a photo of us in front of the Mall of America until the last day…and to think we call ourselves scrappers!!!

I want to share a couple of layouts that I have done…these are older ones…but I love them just the same!! My Grandfather passed away and I made an album to have at my Grandmas house while she received guests over the weeks after he passed. It’s so fun to go back and look at old photos…my Grandpa John was quite the handsome fellow!!

This layout is one of my favorites of my daughter…I think the paper is why I love this layout!! My daughter turned two in July and let me tell you what…I love her to death…but I’m pretty sure if she would have been our first…there probably wouldn’t have been a second!! lol….she truly is amazing and I love every moment I have with her!

It’s been a long weekend and I’m headed to bed…I will try to update with new pictures of my Scrappy Space!! I have done lots in there since my initial room post a few years ago! Happy Scrapping! :0) Heather

Wow!! I'm seriously the WORST blogger on the face of the planet. I have been scrapping and creating like crazy...however I have become LAZY with sharing it!!

My friend Michelle and I started a website about a year ago called BigScrapDeal.com. We are having so much fun with that. We keep adding to our lists of vendors and bringing more and more deals out there to our fellow crafters!

So…I am going to TRY to post more often than once a year…and loose the worse blogger ever on the face of the planet title that I have earned!!

Magazine Storage

I had an idea for my magazines. I’m really excited about it! I am in the process of getting all my magazines spiral bound. First I organized my magazines by title and year. I put binder clips around the ones that I wanted bound together. I wouldn’t recommend doing more then 4 or 5…so I split the magazines up that I had a year’s subscription. I also had the Stampin’ Up catalogs and Angel Company catalogs spiral bound as well.

I took my magazines to Office Depot and had them cut the edge off and spiral bind them.

I cut some tags out using my Cricut and wrote what magazines were in each book. I cut the tags 2” from the Alphalicious catalog.

Now I’m sure you can get super-ooper creative with your tags…but I decided to just go with a black and white theme. Then I laminated my tags using self-seal laminating pouches for business cards. The 2” tag is perfect because you can laminate 2 with 1 pouch.

So that my tags weren’t totally plain I put a flower on each side that I cut out using the George cartridge on a 1” setting and attached them using a white eyelet.

So then I just attached the tag to the spiral binding using a piece of ribbon.

Here’s how they look on the shelf.

The one huge advantage to spiral binding magazines…

You can lay them open flat!!

Some New Layouts…

My new favorite way to get “inspired” is to pick up a scrapbooking book or magazine…when I see a layout I like then I “lift” it and create my own version of it. I have done more scrapping in the last month then I have in a couple of years. It is amazing how sometimes I don’t very far from the original and sometimes I’ll start with an idea from a magazine, use different paper, change the way the pictures are arranged, add a different embellishment and the layout morphs so far from the one I was “lifting” that you couldn’t tell I borrowed the idea if you were looking at the original and mine side by side!

This is a layout I did tonight. I got the idea from a Stampin’ Up catalog. I also used a scrapbook kit from Stampin’ Up. I still need to add the perfect picture and do a little journaling…but I’m pretty excited about how it came together.

This layout is of my son eating his first biscuit. I also “lifted” this layout from a Stampin’ Up catalog. I used paper that I purchased from Hobby Lobby. The title I cut using my favorite new Cricut Cartridge – Alphalicious.

This layout is using the same paper as the layout above from Hobby Lobby. The title is cut using the Street Sign cartridge…another one of my favorites. There’s a little envelope that is being held together with the buttons and embroidery floss that will house the journaling for the page. I’m not typically very good at journaling so it is usually the last thing that I do on a page.

This layout was fun to do. I had 4 pictures of my son and my daughter cleaning out the bread drawer to sit in it when they were about the same age. The picture of my daughter on the bottom lifts up to reveal a picture of my son looking down as well!

I used a scrapbooking kit from Stampin’ Up to do this layout.

I used a Cricut to cut the circles out for the 12x12 layout and my Coluzzle to cut the picture. The stickers for the title say How Sweet it is to be….Loved by You. The paper is from We Are Memory Keepers. I can’t remember the line off the top of my head but I think it is Heavy Metals or something along those lines.

This last layout is of my son at a birthday party. The writing along the bottom is a dictionary definition of the word Explore. My friend taught me a great trick for dictionary definitions after I spent 10 minutes typing this one out. If you pull up the dictionary in your word processing software and look up the word you want to use you can cut and paste the definition!

These aren’t my favorite pages…but I’m finding I need to let go and just scrap. I get so picky about what I do with a page that sometimes it can take me hours or days to do even one layout. I’m not a very patient person…so if I don’t see progress that I get discouraged and bored with the project. So I’m finding if I let go and just do it I get a lot more done in the same amount of time…and I’m just as happy with the results!!

My Scrap Space

I have spent a week cleaning my room. So I figured I should post pictures of it while it was still neat :-)

This is my table work area.Here are the cupboards on the left side of the room. This is the inside view of the large cupboard. I have my smaller paper on the top shelf, my Bind-It-All and K&Co chipboard.

The second shelf has 3 boxes full of Angel Company and clear stamps in cd cases, thread, Acrylic blocks.

The third shelf has my coloring supplies, glue and glitter, Crop-O-Dile, and my Dremel tool.

The next shelf has my stickers organized by category.

The last shelf has some of my pattern paper pads, and all my colored cardstock. All my little embellishments are organized by color in these little drawer sets that I purchased at the hardware store.All of my embossing powder has magnets on the bottom and are placed on this white board.This is a close-up of my ribbon rack that I had my husband make for me. I love it. I just wish I would have had him make it bigger for me :-) The top drawer in my cupboards holds my adhesives, blades and refills. (and some other misc stuff I haven’t cleaned out yet :-) The next drawer holds my punches. This next drawer has my finished/almost finished pages that need to make their way to albums as well as some projects I’m working on.The big drawer holds all kinds of items to be altered and mini-albums.

The top drawer on my next cupboard holds all my inks.

Here is an inside view of the cupboard. I have my Sizzix and dies, and all my pattern paper in this cupboard.

Here’s a close up of the organizers/cubbies. The jars on top have all my ribbon scraps organized by color and a place to display some of my work. There are also jars of game pieces and jars with embroidery floss. The purple containers hold my rubber stamps that are wood mounted, one holds my cards and such to be scrapped, one holds raw chipboard and the last one holds a kit of paper and albums I purchased from QVC. All my 8 1/2” x 11” paper is organized into these cubbies as well as my scraps of paper. On top of the organizer I have all my flowers organized into jars by color.This book shelf houses my Cricut cartridges, cutting mats and accessories. I also have an antique stamp set and a binding machine that uses those plastic coil binding. The black leather box to the left holds all my large sticker sheets. The stuff on top are things that need a new home.I hope you enjoyed looking at my space. I have one other bookshelf that has my magazines and Xyron sticker machines on it. Have a super weekend! Mini Paper Bag Album

Here is a super easy paper bag album that I made using the Mimi paper collection from The Angel Company. I have also listed the supplies and Cricut cartridge cuts that I used!!

Here’s the cover. I inked and distressed around the edges of the bag and cut paper to fit (I used standard size lunch bags I cut the front, back, and spine 5 3/4” x 4”) The monogram “P” is cut from Storybook as well as the scrolly design behind the “P”

The next page is super easy. I put my base sheet of pattern paper down and then added an accent strip down the outside edges of the page. The stamped “Dream” image is cut from a mini stamp set that The Angel Company had as a promotion last spring. The butterfly in the corner of the left-hand page is also cut from Storybook.

Here’s a close-up of each page…

The next page is also super easy! I placed the pink strip accent squares down and stamped an image from the Swirly Gig stamp set also by The Angel Company. I cut my photos square to follow the theme.

The next page has the pattern paper background and pockets made out of accent paper with tags inserted inside them.

There are also two inserts in this album that are made using coordinating cardstock.

Insert #2…In the upper left corner I cut the scroll design and the bird from the Storybook cartridge.

This album was so easy to make! It can be done in an evening!

Altered Address Books

(I'm still learning how to post and add photos to this...so be patient as I learn how to make this more appealing :-)

I had so much fun creating these fun little altered address books. This first one I created for a partner swap in a scrapbook group that I'm in.

I covered the front and the back in coordinating paper pattern that is very thick using the super sticky double sided tape so there would not be any glue lines on my covers. Then I punched a hole in the back and front covers and ran ribbon through the eyelets to add a cute closure. I also tied coordinating ribbon on the spiral binding.

Then after covering it I put that super red sticky tape that was precut into the shape of a D onto a coordinating sheet of patterned paper and cut around that shape. Then I removed the red sticky tape and covered the D in those super tiny clear glass marbles...

I also made a matching pen that is covered in paper and then the sticky tape and then rolled in glass beads. I was surprised how easy it was to work with the glass beads and can't wait to use them again!!

The second book that I made I used the Urban Prairie Collection by Basic Grey! I love all the great colors in it!! I didn't do anything fancy with this one as far as techniques goes. I followed the same steps as above using the super double sticky tape to put the paper on the covers to avoid glue lines and went from there!!

Hi Everyone...I thought it would be fun to start a blog to showcase all the projects that I'm working on.
