Author Karl Vanghen Chosen As One Of ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’

Author Karl Vanghen was chosen as one of ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’. The award came as the result of his recent appearance on The Authors Show. His latest historical fiction release, ‘My Enemy, My Beloved,’ explores the life of a young German POW during WW2 who lands in the US Midwest at the height of hatred and discrimination only to find hope and the meaning of love

Karl Vanghen, author of ‘My Enemy, My Beloved’, has been named one of ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’. His honors came as a result of his appearance on The Authors Show. Vanghen was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process. ‘My Enemy, My Beloved’ is an historical fiction novel that explores the life of a German POW held on American soil.

“I wrote this book,” stated Mr. Vanghen, “to reveal the life and times of German POW’s and citizens swept up in World War Two. As a native Minnesotan, I, like many others, was totally ignorant of the fact that enemy POW’s had been brought to this country. By researching the past, and through interviews with actual German POW’s, I was driven to write this novel because those fascinating times needed to be brought to life.”

Mr Vanghen became interested in the subject of German POW’s when he visited a WWII museum, and learned that Minnesota housed over 6,000 German POW in 1945, living in camps across the state. In ‘My Enemy, My Beloved, the hero of the story lands in the U.S. Midwest at the height of Nazi hatred and discrimination, only to find love and the meaning of hope in New Ulm, Minnesota. The story is captivating and the history is engrossing.

Karl Vanghen was born in 1929 at the beginning of the Great Depression. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin during the Korean War. After his discharge, he spent years building a career in graphic arts, and eventually became the company vice president. Before his retirement, he became an award-winning wildlife artist and published author. Karl and his wife live in Shoreview, Minnesota, where he has started his third novel, also a historical fiction based in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Marcia Fine, author of ‘Stressed In Scottsdale’, has been named one of ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’. Her honors came as a result of her appearance on The Authors Show TV. Fine was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process. ‘Stressed In Scottsdale’ was a First Prize Winner in the Satire/Humor Category by The Arizona Publishers Association's 2010 Arizona Book Awards and took 2nd Place (Silver) for Women's Fiction at the 2010 Living Now Book Awards.

Spending her formative years in South Florida, the only child of New York expatriates with a penchant for the Bohemian lifestyle, Marcia’s best friend was a good book. After ten years Marcia sold her self-created circus to become a corporate trainer and motivational speaker for an international jewelry company.

The third, ‘Paper Children’, is a family saga based on her grandmother’s letters from her family in Poland before and after World War Two. The fourth novel, ‘The Blind Eye’, is a sweeping historical novel set in the 15th and 20th centuries. It is, at times, a heart-wrenching story dealing with the survival of the Sephardic Jews during the Spanish Inquisition. Both ‘Paper Children’ and ‘The Blind Eye’ required extensive research and travel to Poland, Spain and Portugal.

Fine's fifth novel, ‘Stressed in Scottsdale’, expands her satirical series about Jean Rubin into the arena of politics and the environment. With her unique eye she pokes fun at the denizens of an upscale community while tackling serious issues of corruption and air quality issues.

Schoolkids Win Against Corporate Giants In World Class Food Competition - Create Jobs For Adults And College Scholarships

The City Kidz Food Science Programs’ Viva Vanilla ice cream recently won second place in ‘World Dairy Expo Product Championship Contest’. In so doing they will create jobs for adults in the Jacksonville Florida area, along with college scholarship opportunities nationwide

In regards to ice cream, most kids could be called ‘experts’. The term expert is usually used to denote ‘experts at eating ice cream.’ Recently however a group of young people demonstrated a talent for creating world-class ice cream. Not only did they create one great ice cream, they beat out nearly all the ice cream manufacturing corporations in one of the largest professional competitions in the US. And, in so doing, they have created real job opportunities for residents of the Jacksonville Florida area and college scholarship opportunities for students nationwide.

City Kidz Food Science Educational Lab is regarded as one of the best programs of its kind in the United States. The program teaches students food science, and takes them from the classroom to supermarket shelves. On October 4, 2011, one of their creations, Viva Vanilla ice cream, won second place in ‘World Dairy Expo Product Championship Contest’. Of the 705 corporate contestant entries submitted, the City Kidz Viva Vanilla won second place in the Philly Style vanilla ice cream category. This was the first submission ever created by high school students in the contest. This is no small accomplishment, in that The World Dairy Expo Product Championship Contest is the largest judging contest of it’s kind in North America.

The new ice cream will be sold in local supermarkets throughout Jacksonville, Florida, creating manufacturing related jobs in the area. But these kids are not going to stop at just mere just job creation. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the ice cream will benefit a college scholarship fund for students nationwide.

“I am extremely excited,” stated Pastor Clinton Bush, program director, “about our student’s recent accomplishment at the World Dairy Expo Competition to go from classroom to supermarket shelves to raise monies to offset their college costs. To create a national educational endowment fund for all qualifying students nationally, and to put American Citizens back to work by creating manufacturing jobs, is a great achievement.”
