New Design in the Breastplate of Aaron Series

Last week I listed several new pieces listed at my Etsy shop, Heavenly City Jewelry!

This first one was more than a year in the making: I developed this idea as the second in a series highlighting the precious gemstones in the Breastplate of Aaron, Exodus 28:17-22. The plan is to eventually design a piece for each of the gemstones:

Carnelian, Emerald, Topaz, Carbuncle, Sapphire, Beryl, Jacinth, Agate, Amethyst, Chrysolite, Onyx, and Jasper.
The first one I made in 2012 and it was made of Picasso jasper, it was stunning, and it has been sold. The second one is this, the beryl:

The pendant is a faceted genuine blue beryl teardrop hand-wrapped with sterling silver wire. All beads are genuine blue beryl and all findings are Sterling silver. Photographs do not really capture the luminous quality of these translucent stones; the pale blue light they transmit is simply breathtaking. $120.00.

New Release in the Breastplate of Aaron Series

Introducing a new release in the Breastplate of Aaron Series!

This carnelian set is the second creation in the Breastplate of Aaron series, which is a series of sets incorporating different stones mentioned in the Biblical passage from Exodus.

Carnelian and hand-wrapped sterling silver necklace - $80

A stunning carnelian pendant, hand-wrapped in sterling silver wire, hangs from a necklace of matching 6mm round carnelian beads. All spacer beads and findings are sterling silver and the beads are strung with strong jeweler’s wire using the finest craftsmanship. The total length of the pendant (with bail) is 2 3/4", and the necklace is 18" long.

This piece really shows the beauty of the carnelian stone. Ranging from dark red to light orange, carnelian can be streaked with other colors or solid in appearance.

Carnelian appears several times in the bible, notably in the passage on the Heavenly City in the Book of Revelation. However, it is also listed as one of the nine stones in the priestly Breastplate of Aaron in the Book of exodus:

"Call all the skilled workers to whom I have given ability, and tell them to make Aaron's clothes, so that he may be dedicated as a priest in my service.
Tell them to make a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, an embroidered shirt, a turban, and a sash. They are to make these priestly garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so that they can serve me as priests.
You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work. It is to be made of the same materials as the ephod and with similar embroidery. It is to be square and folded double, 9 inches long and 9 inches wide. Mount four rows of precious stones on it; in the first row mount a ruby, a topaz, and a garnet; in the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; in the third row, a turquoise, an agate, and an amethyst; and in the fourth row, a beryl, a carnelian, and a jasper…”

These amazing beads really show the incredible versatility of the jasper stone. Jasper comes in just about every color you can imagine, in various patterns and styles. This variety, known as Picasso jasper, is lined with beautiful veins and is very colorful.

I have several projects I am currently working on, but none of them are quite ready yet. To pique your interest, I will show you a little of what is coming down the road at Heavenly City Jewelry.

Picasso Jasper:

I found these amazing beads and I just had to have them! This project is almost done and will include a necklace, earrings, and a bracelet. Here are the beads:

Garnet grape clusters:

I saw some lovely clusters of beads at Michaels; they looked like grapes... but they were made of glass and cheap silver plate. I am making mine of garnets and real sterling silver findings. When they are done they will be exquisite. Here is a drawing to give you an idea what to expect:

I am also working on a project using mirrors and antiqued brass, and another antiqued brass project with an ocean/beach theme, possibly involving pearls.

I have also ordered some supplies which will enable me to start providing custom stamped silver; dog tags, pendants with customized sayings, earrings, and eventually rings and bracelets, too. I am excited about the new avenues opening up for Heavenly City Jewelry! Look for these and other exciting releases coming soon.

Jars of Clay - ceramic mini-jar with brown leather cord and sterling silver clasp - $35

After much searching, I found a supplier for these wonderful little handmade ceramic jars.

The jar is functional; it will hold liquid and comes with a cork. I cannot guarantee that the cork won't pop out if you bump it, but my supplier says it will work for anointing oil. You can also write down your prayers and put them in the jar, or you can just wear it as a reminder that you are a vessel of God, the house of the Holy Spirit on earth, and a living stone in the temple of the Living God.

The cord is 22" long and the jar is 2" long.

2Co 4:7 We are like jars of clay in which treasure is stored. The real power comes from God and not from us.

Mustard Seed - hand made glass pendant on a leather cord with sterling silver clasp - $22

These marvelous glass drops were designed by Wendy Bridges and are hand made by my supplier. Each one encapsulates a tiny mustard seed, which represents the amount of faith God says is necessary to move mountains in our lives.

I have added a black leather cord with a sterling silver clasp and I offer them here because they fit perfectly with the Heavenly City biblical theme.

Wisdom and Strength set:

In ancient times, lapis was known as sapphirus, which is the name that we use today for the blue corundum variety of sapphire. Greeks spoke of an ancient sapphire which was flecked with gold, and this was unmistakenly lapis. Tradition says that the Ten Commandments were carved on tablets of sapphire, and it is believed that this and other references to sapphire in the Bible is actually lapis lazuli. Lapis lazuli was also one of the stones in the Breastplate of Aaron in Exodus 28. Ezekiel 1:26 describes God's throne appearing to be lapis.

Psams 19:7 "The law of the LORD is perfect; it gives new strength. The commands of the LORD are trustworthy, giving wisdom to those who lack it."
Isaiah 33:6 "And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is your treasure."

These are not necessarily one of a kind, but when my supplies run out I will probably not make any more, at least not exactly the same as these:

Wheels within wheels 20 inch antiqued brass necklace with mother-of-pearl shell - $32

When I saw these antiqued brass beads, I immediately thought of the verse in Ezekiel where the prophet is describing the wheels of the Cherubim. I searched and searched for a gemstone “wheel” that would fit inside the larger wheel, and for another “wheel” to fit inside that one. I chose mother of pearl because it had the right luster to match well with the brass, and there was a good contrast of colors and textures between the materials.

The necklace is 20” long, it has an unusual construction with the toggle in the front, and is crafted of a brass metal chain with circular links to match the pendant.

Today we think of cherubs as cute little roly poly angels with fluffy feathery wings. But the Cherubim described by Ezekiel are in fact, terrifying and magnificent in their glory and power.

Remember that, in life’s direst moment, the beings with whom God has surrounded you are incredibly powerful. They are watching over you and protecting you. They are more powerful than any force on earth, more powerful than any servant of the Enemy, more powerful than you can possibly imagine. If the veil were removed and you were to see one, you would probably fall on your face in awe.

“This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like a precious stone, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel… Their rims were high and awesome… the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.”

Set Free - oxidized brass and swarovski crystal necklace - $49

These brass wire wrapped cages remind me of the tangled web of deceit and darkness which ensnares the hearts of mankind. I envisioned hearts imprisoned within them, blinded by their bonds and utterly unable to escape on their own. I created the two wire-wrap cage pendants with hearts within them to show how our hearts are bound before we come to the Cross.

Then I created a pendant which shows that with Christ, there is freedom. The heart which was formerly enslaved is now set free, thanks to the Cross of Christ.

The pendants consist of oxidized brass wire wrapped cages and Swarovski crystal hearts, with a cross on the bottom-most pendant.

This set is very special. I wanted gold beads which were somehow transparent, but plain yellow quartz or topaz were just not right for this project. I had this necklace pictured in my mind but it took me a month to find these beads and then another two months just to get my hands on them:

Streets of Gold - 22k gold foil lined glass bead necklace - $84

This one-of-a-kind 20 inch necklace is made of very special Venetian glass beads. The bore of each clear glass 6mm bead is lined with 22k gold, for a marvelous luminosity. The necklace almost appears to glow from within!

The Heavenly City

I have read numerous books on success and fulfillment. They always have a similar theme: focus on what really matters, live with integrity, do what you love, and love what you do. Trust your intuition. Go with those little promptings you get; they are usually right. If you have a sudden revelation about something you ought to be doing, making, selling - DO IT. You will not regret having done so.

Three years ago, while reading the Bible, I decided I needed a pick me up. I turned to the last book, Revelation, and looked around for John's description of the glory of heaven. While studying this glorious text, I had a sudden idea. Why not make a bracelet for myself out of all of the stones listed in Revelation 21? I would love to have one. Then I had another idea. Why not make these bracelets for others? Had anyone done this before? Did such an enterprise already exist? I researched and found nothing. So I made lists of the stones I would need and how much it would cost to get started. I ordered a few strings of beads. I daydreamed about business cards and marketing plans and starting another small business. I instinctively knew I must tell no one; this was a patent-able, trademark-able idea. But then, for some strange reason, I stopped, and the few beads I had ordered sat in a box for three years, waiting. The files I had compiled were lost. Why? Who knows? Maybe I was overwhelmed at the startup cost. The fear of criticism from my friends. The fear of the learning curve involved in a new venture. The fear of having a small business fail. The fear of what might happen if I succeeded.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, I fear no more! Or rather, I have an appropriate level of fear to the occasion, but I am no longer allowing fear to govern my decisions. So, without further ado, please allow me to introduce Heavenly City™ Jewelry.

On Self-Sabotage and Success

Several years ago I had an epic dream about a young woman who had been changed into a vampire. She was miserable as a vampire, hating herself for it, though she lived in a house full of them. Her entire life was taken up with trying to fit in with the other vampires, though she loathed them and wished to be anything other than what she was. She tried to fight her nature as much as possible, without the others suspecting how she truly felt. Her secret mission, carried out every moment she was away from home, was to find out how to be changed back again.

I awoke from that dream saying, "Wow, I should write a book! This needs to be made into a movie!" But of course, I never did anything with it. Life intervened, the dream faded, and I eventually forgot all about it.

Right about that same time, a woman named Stepanie Meyer had a dream about a vampire. Afterwards, she wrote a book, Twilight, which was later turned into a movie. Now she is one of the most popular authors alive today and the success of her Twilight series is a teen and young adult phenomenon.

I mention this strange dream, and the coincidence of Stephanie Meyer's book, because I have always done this peculiar self-sabotage thing. I have strong urges of intuition and great bursts of creativity, but I ignore them. Or I get right to the brink of success but then somehow I give up, or I allow myself to be derailed by circumstances, or I just fizzle out.

I am waiting only for one order to arrive before I can make my first set of bracelets! I am thrilled and I almost can't wait. I have just about everything else set up and have just ordered business cards, mailing labels, and even a car door magnet. I plan to make two of each of several slightly different designs and offer some of them as samples/giveaways. I plan to trademark and patent this idea, so I cannot give away too many details until the product is released to the public.
