Instant Messaging

I use instant messaging daily. I normally use Facebook Messenger. As well as WhatsApp. I had to help my nephew and niece with their homework. They are in Puerto Rico and thru this platform; we have been able to complete these tasks. Facebook acquired this app in 2014. We can send unlimited text, video, audio, and photo; public and secure. We can even do face-to-face calls. My group on church use Google hangouts to do our video chats every Saturday night. We are located in different states but we are always connected thru this app. If we have trouble with this application, we alternate it with Skype Business. The instant message platform use will depend on what we are speaking about and with whom. Some of the others IM software is MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Apple iChat and AOL. IM apps can be downloaded from PC or mobile. In a previous time, both users had to be using the same software. Now and day several customers, however, allow interoperability between networks, including Microsoft's recently developed Live Messenger. Expansions in mobile technology now let handset users to continuously be available via IM, through such popular devices such as smartphones, tablets, and more.

VOIP ( Voice over IP)

I have the Skype social media platform for so long and had used it so many times. I've been in different locations around the world while being deployed, and Skype was basically the best option we had to communicate with our loved ones back in the states. Just using the internet service we had available there; which what a little bit slow, we will be able to do video chat or have a normal call at no cost. A disadvantage of using this type of VOIP device is that connection will be slow and you will get time gap during the calls because of the slow Internet speed. One of the most significant things to point out is that VOIP is not regulated to voice communication. VoIP it is very important because, for the very first time in more than 100 years, there has been a significant change in the way that people connect. We also have the capability to use videophones; I did this a lot while stationed in Hawaii. We had to set up the video conference for my top military leadership every Wednesday. We called it VTC. One of the more remarkable features of VoIP is that we also have the ability to integrate a separate telephone or videophone with the computer. In the military, we used Ventrilo and several more that I cannot remember the name right now. In conclusion, VoIP allows people to connect in more ways and with more alternatives.

This new social media eruption started when in the early 2004 Facebook was created. There were many pessimists who were committed that this new platform will not stand a chance alongside the Social Media titan. In only 5 years it took over the social media space and became number one. MySpace disappear not too long after that. It has been 14 years, and a lot of new mergers have tried to take on the social media juggernaut to no reward. And the reason is very simple; if the people, businesses or makes that you faithfully loved and followed offered a committed community to you, would you be interested in their app? And we already know the answer is yes.

In Web 3.0 Social media is a very important part since it involves every marketing plan. This is why it is very important for every business to have a solid idea of what social media channels they will want to use. As well they will have to know is a Facebook page will be enough or they will need more form of marketing their name. For professional social networking, we have bloggers, social video networks, images, and much more. All we will have to do is find what really match our needs. Facebook

It is a social network website and a facility where customers can place comments, share pictures and links to a newscast or other attractive information on the Web. We can also play games, chat live, and even stream live videos of regular on important activities. The content we shared can be made visibly available, or it can be shared only with friends or family members. The main key features of Facebook are: allows us to keep a list of friends, privacy settings to modify who can view content on our profile. Allows us to upload pictures and create albums with them. We also have an interactive online chat and the capacity to comment on your friend's pages. Group pages, fan pages, and business pages are supported as well. We cannot forget that we can stream video live using Facebook Live.

First of all let me give you some initial data about Instagram: It was launched on October 6, 2010; It was also #1 in the App Store within 24 hours of launch; It holds the record as quickest to reach 1 million downloads (Dec 21, 2010) and exceeded 25 million users in early March 2012. So why is everyone clustering to Instagram? Well, it is very easy to get started with the app. We can take pictures of the app or use photographs that already exist in your camera roll. We can give our photos a label, which is useful and entertaining. Photos can be immediately shared, not only on Instagram, but also Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Posterous, and Tumblr. One of the most appealing factors of Instagram is the fact that they have 11 distinctive filters you can use to up the attention of your photos. On Instagram, we ‘follow’ people. At the top of our profile, we will see the username, profile pic, number of photos uploaded, number of followers the account has, and how many we are following. We can also find people we know or invite them to start following you. I think what it makes Instagram so wildly popular is the photographs. We will find most of the most astonishing photographs you have ever seen on Instagram. But as they say, attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder. It’s very important to be considerate of who you follow because it’s all about who’s in your feed. I’ve posted countless pictures in the past months and I love looking through them to see where I’ve been and what I’ve done. My experience on Instagram has been tremendously pleasant. I’ve never seen bad comments on people’s pictures. I had seen a lot of good intent in some of the posts. Such as raising money to help others, etc. I’ve talked to other users from around the globe. My favorite part of Instagram is to get a preview into the everyday lives of people and who live in totally different cultures than I. With this I found that we are so much alike. People around the world celebrate weddings, birthdays, value their children and pets, appreciate a lovely sunset or panorama, like to drink, eat and puts on some fancy clothes. Instagram it is definitely a keeper.

Pinterest is a social media platform that lets us to visually allocate, and learn new ideas by posting images or videos to our own or other people boards. Operating graphics orientation, the social network is well dedicated to the idea of a person's lifestyle, permitting us to share our tastes and interests with others; as well as discovering those of compatible people. This can help on how customers will trust what they are trying to sell. Small business owners can also help enable chats about their brands online by including "share" buttons to their websites. Pinterest like any other social media networks can help generate brand consciousness and perhaps enable website suggestions.

In conclusion, there's so much more out there for us to play and navigate on social media. if we have the opportunity, let's have some good time visualizing what is out there for us to enjoy.

Why don’t we all speak the same language? (Earth 2.0 Series)

According to a biblical version initiate in the book of Genesis, people previously spoke the same language. Then, because those people hooped together to build a tower in Babylon that worshiped their own accomplishments, rather than those of their divinity, God disciplined them. He ensured that mankind spoke several tongues so that they'd never be able to work jointly to discredit God again. Linguists still don't have enough information that confirms the origins of language. There are just beliefs about how our early descendants formed their first words and sentences. Did early people reproduce sounds they perceived in the atmosphere? Did they murmur until undeniable sounds took on significance? We'll possibly never find out, however, the linguist's still studied children brains to establish if language comes already establish in our heads.

One obvious belief about the maturity of the first languages narrates to tools and resources. Teaching another person how to use tools demands an evident, agreed-upon vocabulary. Making someone understand a new language, it’s one of the most crucial acts of being a person, and amongst one of the most important one. Linguistic variety has been a normal trademark of human interaction. But in previous centuries, there were other big, fat languages guzzling up the others. In Western and Central Europe, for example, the background of language was piloted in Latin. So there are a lot of aspects that may affect whether, or how large, a given language will increase. Some groups have sponsored that a universal language is implemented, but it would be challenging to find any group ready to give up their own language if only because so much culture and history becomes surrounded within it over time. Subsequently, thanks to the Internet's impact, language has developed a mix of emoticons and acronyms.

Podcasting: Let the show begin, entrepreneurs. Here's how

During this assignment, I had several hiccups due to me been away for a training exercise. I finally came home and started to work on my podcast reviews. For me is very interesting that all the assignments we had in this course is something we do every day but, I didn’t know the proper terminology for it. Podcasting it has developed to popular demand. So, yes, I am definitely a fan. Should I start my own podcast? I think there are several reasons to say yes: whatever my product is, desire, trademark, relevance, or field, there is possible a podcast spectators ready for it. With so many individuals snooping to podcasts in actual days, introducing a show can absolutely help create you as a leader. Having my own podcast, particularly one where I dialogue with business specialists is an excellent way to meet business leaders. There are two ways to present and run a podcast: we can either do it ourselves or appoint someone to help us. Either one of the two will work and they are very affordable.

Getting someone to help us give us more time, and we will not waste the time looking for ideas on the internet. Anchor.fm, Garage Band (on a Mac), Adobe Audition, and Audacity are some of the tools we can utilize to create our podcast by ourselves. We might have to invest in some equipment such as a mic to get to business. After we get what we need, then we will begin by selecting a subject or style for what we are going to present. Then we will begin to record it. As this step, we need to get a host site. Some options available are Libsyn, Podbean, and SoundCloud. As a final step, we will need to advertise it. We can use our own Facebook page, etc. Let’s be creative and bring a new point of views and ideas to areas where we have forgotten about. Let’s begin to have some fun.

New Technology Influence in the Development of New Career Opportunities

Based on an old video from 2007, called "Did you know 2.0?" It was mentioned that several of today's college degrees didn't exist 10 years ago (in other words, 1997 since the video is from 2007). Some of the degrees that were listed were Organic Agriculture, e-business, Nanotechnology, Homeland Security, New Media, Biotechnology, Human-computer interaction, Gaming design, etc. This list of majors isn’t stationary. As technology progresses and business changes, grounds of study that didn’t need it before are going to emerge as full-blown majors.

In the past, we were trained for the job we planned to go into. In today’s world, it is difficult to hire the right human resource manager that will find the employees with the right skills. While there is still a requirement to have a degree and that a vast majority do have one, the experience needed or knowledge in the job it is missing. How they will apply for a job without that necessary skill? We cannot take the risk in areas such as Architecture, Engineering, Technology, and Cyber Security. The experience is needed and the same time as the degree. However, there is an area where there are candidates with proper education and potential for the job. I believe that many of today’s issues with the workplace are due to technology and it’s constant development. In 20 years from now, we’ll be hearing about robots in the workplace instead of humans. Let’s see what the future has for us.

New Technology: The damage in our teenagers

Based on a video from 2007, which was called "Did you know 2.0?", mentioned that 21-year-olds have whichever sent or received up to 250,000 emails or instantaneous. It also mentioned how many hours had they had watched TV’s and or played video games. Those hours were above the 10,000. These numbers are alarming and it was the figures for 10 years ago. I don’t want to imagine those numbers now and days. If we compare that era with the 80’s we can see a huge difference. During the 80’s there was the Cold War, Steve Miller Band... pointless to say the 80s were in many ways a shadowy age of human memoir. There were no smartphones. This pocket companion has changed our lives is immeasurable. They used to make phone calls inside a phone booth. Now we use a cell phone and we don’t even talk anymore, we just send a text.

If you wanted to take pictures, you had to carry around a bulky camera everywhere. You will almost look like a tourist. To develop those pictures, and share them was very tedious. Too many trips to the store, and to many sets of the film were developed to do so. Now, we just share it thru Facebook, Instagram, Text message, etc. What else I can include to this, playing board games with family and friends was always fun. It still is and a lot of people still do them. But we can’t deny that a lot of the 20’s years old today prefer to play a video game from their computer, gaming console or even their cellphone and they don’t need to leave their bed. We used to listen to messages when we go home inside an answering machine, now you check your email or voicemail on your smartphone. We had lost a majority of our communication to developed moral values. We barely call, see, interact with family or friends, I visualize that the tradition is long gone.

Toxic Childhood: How modern technologies is damaging our children

"Did you know 2.0?" The video was launched in 2007. On this video, it was mentioned that More than 70% of 4-year-olds have used a computer. This is disturbing, I am pretty sure that those numbers are higher now. This video is ten years old and the only thing that is possibly different is the fact that they aren't spending their time on computers anymore. They rather use smartphones and tablets in its place, anything that can go anywhere with them.

Having a little ones myself and she is 4-year-old girl, I know that there are some occasions where it is perfectly understandable to let your young child hold on to a phone to watch a cartoon on YouTube kids, Netflix, DIRECTV App, etc. or even playing a game. This will help us as parents to keep them quiet and still for our sanity driving from west coast to east coast, or for when we are stuck in traffic jam for instance!

The downside of this kids don’t interact with each other anymore. They will sometimes don’t like to go play outside, they want to stay playing videogames. Some of today’s kids hate table games. They consider them boring. The communication between all the members of a family has stop gradually because of this also. It is pretty sad that we had lost value in what a family means. kids has become selfish, not like to share or take turns, they like to be loners and suppresses their capacity to communicate and exchange thoughts with one another, which are vital social skills that are necessary for relationships and development in work and personal life as adults.

As a parent myself, it is an enormous damage that we as parents are doing to our kids, we don’t realize it on the spot and never too late to create a better life for our children’s. They need us and we need to act.

What are Wikis, Why we use them?

'Wiki' is one of the most widespread slogans on the Internet, same as ‘cloud' and 'receptive proposal'. I first heard the word; I thought it was related to Wikipedia. The word “wiki” come from Hawaiian language and it means quick. The most important aspect of wikis is the combined editing done by users. So let’s go for an adventure and find the benefits that wiki can provide to a company, issues that can get fix, reason why we will want to use it, and can we set up out own wiki page. Let’s keep on moving. Let’s go back in time to get a better explanation. Ward Cunningham was the father of wiki. He build them on 1990.We him and his colleagues started the project, they didn’t know what they were good for, but they sure know it was fun to work with them and develop them as well. In other words, the main concepts of wikis are creating, reviewing, hyperlink, cooperating, interactive. If you pay attention to what I wrote, you would notice that they are all verbs. That’s what wikis do. At their main, wikis are structure organisms. They're doing their best to make the process of writing a webpage as easy as possible. This is a unique characteristic of wikis in comparison to your typical website.

FLICKR, the place to put your photos for sharing

I had always seen our military Public Affair Specialist posting the pictures of any events using the Flickr site. I haven’t used it before until this week requirement and I’m pretty impress with it. Flickr it is the best of all worlds when it comes to online photo service of choice. It has everything, easy to share, easy to search, an excellent amount of storage, slideshow capabilities, tag with location option, API support, and forums are included. And the users and whomever they share the pictures with can order prints through associated services. And it's also cheap. It is only $25 a year; any pro-level sites surely can't compete with that. Flickr does have it cons also and some of them I will describe it briefly. Doesn’t have a keyboard navigation support, You cannot use the same name for multiple pictures, the slideshow thumbnails are kind of small, you will issue with Flickr Uploader when using a Mac Computer; it did happen to me. We cannot deny that Flickr is popular for numerous reasons. Blogging it is the main area that Flickr is nominating. If you are like me new to Flickr and blogging, F-spot is a magnificent tool. F-spot is easy to use, upfront, photo organization program. The pictures uploaded from your camera can be organized by date; folders and they can also be tagged for fast recovery. It also comes with normal photo editing actions like fix red-eye, adjustments of colors, editing the size of the picture and adjusting the angle for the picture as well. Very interesting tools to work with pictures we can find now and days. Enjoy all the ones that you will be able to work with. Enjoy the Web 2.0 pictures that I have uploaded to my Flickr account. I uploaded five examples of what Web 2.0 is and how it works. The tags I created for every single one of them was Core, RSS, Applications, and Sharing. After naming every image, I went and search the site “Flickr related tag browser” to see how many of them had the same tag as mine. I did find out that for the core name there were 224 with the tag sharing. For the RSS one, it had 561,416 images with the same tag. For Application, I only was able to find 30. For the tag core, I did find 10. If I keep looking for more tags, I will never end typing how many I find. Once again it was fun to work on this site.

MOZILLA FIREFOX VS. INTERNET EXPLORER

Firefox started as an experimental branch by Dave Hyatt and Blake Ross. They assumed that the lucrative needs of Netscape had compromised the effectiveness of the Mozilla suite browser. To fight back in 2004 the Organization revealed that they designed Firefox and Thunderbird. Time Warner, IBM and Sun Microsystems sponsored it. Now, let's talk about Internet Explorer. IE was released in August 1995 by Netscape and it was bundle with Windows Operating system. IE has been constantly losing its market share to other browsers, including Safari, Chrome and Firefox.

IE and Firefox differ in many ways and also offer many different features. Firefox is a free web browser. It permits individuals to modify and generate more characters. It has features such as incremental find, spell checking, and live bookmarking; download manager, bookmarks, private browsing, and location-aware browsing. It has compatibility with several third party add-ons and it can be use with any operating system. One of the main holdback of IE, is that it only works with Windows and cannot be install in other operating systems. IE has also been a continuous target for malicious coders and it has a lot of deficiencies with security, however it has been continuously trying to make its system faster and more safe. An advantage of using Firefox is the quantity of add-ons that are accessible, which makes it easier for users to modify their browser to what they wants. Selecting a browser generally varies on every individual needs and what they like. Although a lot people select the add-ons on Firefox, some others choose the qualities given by IE.

LIBRE OFFICE VS. MICROSOFT OFFICE

Microsoft Office has been the ruling winner of office groups, but that doesn't mean the free substitute, Libre Office, isn't appealing. Let's look at how the two compete, and if it's ultimately feasible to trench the paid choice for the free one. We not think it's actually reasonable to compare the free version and the paid one, but the two has majority of it features very similar and we might do not know this. First of all, Libre Office is compatible with a few operating systems, such as Windows, OS X, and Linux. In the other hand Microsoft Office's latest version is limited to just Windows 7 or Windows 10. While I definitely can't go through every feature, I’ll attempt to get a good glance at how they associate after downloading the software and installing it into my MAC and Windows systems. Let’s start to compare both. Libre Office has evolved a lot in the last seven years. It has developed as very established and steady software, but Microsoft Office still controls the marketplace. If we talk about hardware requirements, such as RAM and disk space used, GIMP requires less hardware properties than Photoshop. Another characteristic is that GIMP can also cross-platform. It can be use on Mac, Windows, as well as Linux. Photoshop is not available for Linux users so far. When it comes to features, Photoshop obviously has much more than GIMP. And if all we need to edit photos is a small subcategory of Photoshop qualities, we should contemplate moving to GIMP, basically because we will end up paying for Photoshop features that we will hardly use. Jumpchart offers a very manageable way to develop a site for our clients. It will allow the customers browse to an easy interactive site with different categories and sub categories. This way it will be easier to show their basics in just one location. It is pretty interesting how it will give us feedback on how can better our product. Making just one big team with the developers, designers, copywriters and the client it is amazing tool for success.

I’m fascinating with the idea that you will be able to preview the final product before it gets out to the market. I love the idea of been able to download the entire site in HTML and CSS. I also love the idea of been able to leave comments on pages, and even change the other of the navigation panel, if permitted. RSS feed is another good thing that is use on Jumpchart. The only downsize for someone might be, not been able to change the design that Jumpchart develops.

What I enjoy most about Jumpchart is the cleanness in the product. It helps develop a better plan for collecting and formatting the content. It also gives customers like me, a visualize idea before making our final decision. It might not be the best solution for a larger site. It is excellent for small to medium size sites. It will be a good start for small business.
