On May 6, 2012 HEAVYROTATIONS will be signing off. Changes made by Google to the ranking algorithm have made HEAVYROTATIONS irrelevant. All data will be deleted after the site goes down.

Autumn cleanup

Once in a while you need a good cleanup and that's what we just did with HEAVYROTATIONS. We removed from the rotation sites that have seen no updates since early August 2011 or before. We also took down sites that are not blogs.

This way HEAVYROTATIONS will stay useful to those who are actively working on their sites and trying to promote them.

If you feel we have acted hastily, let us know and we out you back in the rotation.

Bug fix

We found and fixed a small bug that had gone unnoticed in HEAVYROTATIONS up to now. It turns out that we were crawling your sites twice every view and increasing the counter at the same time. The result was that the view counter on the HEAVYROTATIONS was off by a factor of 2 and that HEAVYROTATIONS was slower that necessity. All fixed now!

Late May cleanup

Enhancement - Your views have returned!

Your views have returned! This enhancement marks the first iteration of the new "FREE" version of HEAVYROTATIONS.

Partners that were in the rotation prior to HEAVYROTATIONS going offline will now see their view count increase. However, the number of hits will be lower than before because sites will receive hits proportional to the number of browsers that actively run HEAVYROTATIONS.

Resurrection

OK, we were a little hasty in our decision of killing off HEAVYROTATIONS. So, the site is back up but limited to partners that contribute to the cost of running HEAVYROTATIONS. We will be introducing a paying model soon as well as maintaining free access but with modifications.

Paying partners of HEAVYROTATIONS will continue to get hits even when they are off line. While partners that use HEAVYROTATIONS for free you'll have to be actively connected to the site.

Google ads are now gone as they did not bring revenue except for Google. Do no evil or something like that...

As a free service HEAVYROTATIONS was trying to finance itself via internet ads. Changes to the way ad revenue is calculated cause us to run a deficit with no break even in sight.

These messages will, in succession, give the status of HEAVYROTATIONS (playing/paused, forward/backward, and update speed) and various HEAVYROTATIONS promotion information.

Today we are rolling out two enhancements to HEAVYROTATIONS; a faster/slower feature and a previous/next feature. Here is what the controls look like:

Shows HEAVYROTATIONS playing. Just click the middle button to pause. While playing, clicking the + or - buttons will change the update speed by 0.5 seconds for each click. The initial update speed is 6.5 seconds and can reach from 3.0 to 10.0 seconds.

Shows HEAVYROTATIONS paused. Just click the middle button to play. While paused, clicking the button on the left will display the previous site and clicking the button on the right will display the next site.

Safe browsing advisory

In the past we have noticed that some of the sites on HEAVYROTATIONS can, at times, take over the main browser window. In other cases the sites are very slow to load. Both of these behaviors are undesirable as they defeat the main purpose of HEAVYROTATIONS which is to get eyeballs on your sites.

The main culprits are Flash animation and scripting; both of these can also reduce the security of your computer. Although we do everything in our power to block dangerous sites, safe browsing is your responsibility. To enhance your browsing experience we suggest you use the latest Firefox browser with a couple of add-ons:

NoScript; a script blocker which has a lot of features. NoScript can be a little complex to work with initially but we do suggest that you invest a little time, after all it is for a good cause; your computer safety.
Image and Flash Blocker; set to Image On, Flash Off.

In late October we started displaying your site or blog Alexa page rank as well as the number of views accumulated on HEAVYROTATIONS during the current day. Today we started showing the same numbers but 30 days in the past. We hope this will help you gauge the impact HEAVYROTATIONS makes on your site or blog visibility. Here are a few examples of how it looks and what it means:

Here is a site that is new to HEAVYROTATIONS and has no 30 day statistics. The site is a banner partner has won a 20-fold increase in viewings for the month of December 2010 and has received a fairly high number of viewings today.
Here is a site that has been on HEAVYROTATIONS for a while. The site is a banner partner and has received a fairly consistent number of viewings yet its Alexa ranking has improved by 45,501 positions.

You should keep a few things in mind while interpreting HEAVYROTATIONS statistics:

The lower your Alexa ranking, the harder it is to improve.
The lower your Alexa ranking, the higher the daily fluctuations.
If HEAVYROTATIONS is your sole promotion tool and you are not a banner partner we may not be able to help you that much.
Most banner partner's enjoy a steady improvement.

We made a minor enhancement to HEAVYROTATIONS. Now, every time you go to the HEAVYROTATIONS main page, a new starting position is selected. This means that sites that are further into the rotation have a greater chance of getting shown earlier.

Of course you can from a 5-fold increase over the number of views of regular partners by joining the HEAVYROTATIONS banner program and you may become eligible to a month long 20-fold increase if you get picked. Selection takes place on the last day of each month.

Outage resolved; enhancements

We have resolved the problem that caused the outage of HEAVYROTATIONS. While we were at it w also made enhancements to the back end and to the main page. Those enhancements should improve the rendering speed of HEAVYROTATIONS.

From now on we will be developing new features for HEAVYROTATIONS on a remote server. This means that, at times, you will see requests coming from "localhost", our development/test server.

We are happy to be back with HEAVYROTATIONS and to resume helping you promote your site or blog.

Outage Update

We have narrowed down some more the potential causes of the current outage of HEAVYROTATIONS.

While we are working on the problem, the HEAVYROTATIONS site will remain inaccessible to you. However, to test the stability of our solution, we have added back all your sites to the rotation. You will now see requests coming from "localhost", our test server. This server will not run 24/7 until we are in the later stages of testing.

We have narrowed down the potential causes of the current outage of HEAVYROTATIONS and we are working at resolving the underlying issue.

For the time being we have taken most of the sites off the rotation as we have been told that some partners had been flooded with page requests. We will be back as soon as HEAVYROTATIONS is stable again.

We have made a few enhancements to HEAVYROTATIONS:

The submit box has been moved to its own page.
A new link has been added to the main page to direct you to the submit page. Clicking this link will open a new page or tab.
The layout of the main page has been modified. This increases the area usable by your content and makes space for a couple of new feature we are readying for launch.

To see these enhancements you have to either quit and come back or refresh the page.
