A funny thing happened on the way to me learning Final Cut...

A funny thing happened on the way to me learning Final Cut Pro X over the last two months…I started getting ideas for PostWorkShop paintings.

of course I could see everything ‘wrong’ with this one:

but it seems that on a gut level it still works and is appealing.

This one I could see in my head. It took me several tries (about five or so) to get the look I wanted in the ‘Freehand Painting’ module in PostWorkshp.

Today I went to an art exhibit of Dutch impressionists…I was really surprised at the muted colors. I wanted to concentrate on looking at skin but there was really only one painting that was interesting in that way. There were two paintings of horses (one in oil and one done in watercolor) that I thought were compelling. Plus a winter scene of a park in Amsterdam that I thought was interesting.

I wasn’t happy with the depth of my knowledge of PostWorkShop. Unexpected...

I wasn’t happy with the depth of my knowledge of PostWorkShop. Unexpected things would occur and I didn’t really feel like I could predict or control what the software would do. So I went back to the tutorials and spent some time on the ones focussing on objects, nodes and the Bit Map Editor/Freehand Painting module.

abstract portrait

Random thought 1;

Wouldn’t it be cool if Lightroom had something like the ‘Fade’ command? Wouldn’t it be cool if your iPad wasn’t tied up when you push a video to Apple TV – hey! I can do that with the iPad Sonos controller. Speaking of Sonos, why can’t I listen to CandyRat internet radio on my Sonos?

confident

Random thought 2;

If you really want to protest the way Flickr treats their users, it seems to me you should delete all your tags on your photos there. If they see the value of the place as being a tagged database of images, well then do this and throw a wrench into their machinery.

looking to the right

Random thought 3;

While I’m really bummed about the phasing out of Google Reader – it has saved me hours and has been the hub of my internet browsing for the last five years at least. I’ve tried a lot of alternatives but Yoleo and CommaFeed appear to be the best alternatives. Although most of my feeds I’ve moved to Calibre which allows me to load them up on my Kindle. There are a few (mostly Flickr groups) that I really NEED a RSS reader for. Also I’ve found some other new media sites to help me find articles of interest to me. There’s always Nerd Appproved (looks great on FlipBoard, both IOS and Android). And recently I stumbled across Medium.com which seems to sift out what is appealing to me.

All these pictures were made with PostWorkShop. I’m finding that the program is so extensive that it’s better to concentrate on a tiny bit at a time and just try to master that before tackling the next part. Let’s face it, powerful capabilities like objects and nodes have a somewhat steep learning curve. I started with the ‘Random Painter’ filter with lets you filter an image with an endless variety of brushes. The above pictures were made during my attempts to understand the FreeHand painting panel better. I will say that since I upgraded my computer’s internal memory the program runs MUCH more smoothly.

I have been so hungry for spring to get here. It’s been really, really late in coming. Thank goodness for the three inside pavilions with; orchids, roses and forced tulips. The park was full of adorable little crocuses. I read somewhere that they’d put out 10,000 forced tulips along the walkways. I don’t feel like the visit was a waste at all because the grounds are stunning on their own.

Last year.

This was a great chance to really try and get to know our new full-frame camera. There are so many buttons I did have some struggles with trying to get it to do exactly what I wanted.
