Sunday, Stephen Davey preached on Titus 1:1-3. This is the third week in a row at my church that he went over this passage, but for good reason. In that passage, he noted a number of topics. The one I wanted to share with you is on Godliness.

Stephen noted that, in passion, your life must lead you toward God like-ness. Here are some ways that a Christian exemplifies Godliness:

Living the truth in front of others

In your actions, people can see God in you and it honors God

Our life isn’t about us, but Him

Always remember, we must be small and He must be big

GodLike-ness is every day expressions that express the character of God within you.

I hate to say this, but in my very first apartment, there were roaches. Yes, I moved immediately, but how could I know the bugs didn’t travel with me? Well, we put everything into a U-Haul to move. As soon as we arrived at my new apartment, I set off a fogger in the trailer and let it sit overnight.

This procedure works well if you are storing your belongings in a storage unit, start the bomb off 24 hours before you go in to transport everything into your new home.

The nice thing about using the bomb in a U-Haul is that the spray doesn’t get on your walls. So, don’t forget to cover bare and upholstered furniture with old sheets that you can later wash.

Let me know if this tip helps you!

When you pour paint from the can into another container, leftover paint is left in the ridges, when the lid is tightened, that leftover paint turns into rust. Tip: Simply use paper towels to get all that extra paint out and leave the ridges dry before tapping the top onto the can. Tip: You can use vasoline in the ridges before tapping on the top to prevent future rust.

When you use the original can to paint from, and thus tap the brush on the inside edge of the can, that area gets clogged with paint and will create rust once sealed. Tip: Use a rubber band to tap your brush by wrapping the rubber band around the can, leaving a string of rubber in the center of the can. Use tape to temporarily tape the rubber band onto the can. When you are done, remove and dispose of the rubber band.

By the way, always store your paint in heated and air conditioned space (the back of a large closet perhaps). If stored in the attic or garage, the paint will not keep.

If you have the original wall paint, you can have the paint store make you a quart with half the formula in it (you will need to provide the original formula and base). Many builders will paint the ceiling with a “half color.” We used Sherwin Williams white gold as our wall color. Our builder used 1/2 white gold for the ceilings (it makes the super white crown moldings pop).

In your small touch up roller pan, mix half of your original wall color with half of the 1/2 wall color. Try a small dab with a brush to see if it is a match. Keep adding from one or the other until you have found a match. Then use your roller touch up kit to touch up that faded wall!

With a sharpie, write a note on your paint can with the date and instructions on what you did to make a match so that you can replicate down the road. Let me know if these suggestions help you

Is this possible? YES. You’ll need:

matching wall paint

a small roller and roller pan (Sherwin Williams makes a nice touch up kit)

Repair the wall as needed. On a clean and dry wall, use the small roller dipped in a very small amount of paint. Cover the area with paint and then dry roll into the surrounding areas, effectively moving all the paint from the roller onto the wall. As long as there is a paint color match, the nap of the touch up roller will match the nap of the original roller used to paint the wall!

What if your wall is faded, what can you do? See my post tomorrow . . .

Drove me crazy! I realized there is a simple way to make the carpet pop back up : hot steam from an iron!

Put distilled water in your iron. Allow the iron to heat. Place a thin washcloth over the surface of the carpet. Place the hot iron on the carpet and press the steam button a few times, pushing the iron back and forth. Remove the iron and washcloth, then move the now pliable carpet fibers into place.

Is there a layer of something on your moldings? A few things to try:

Use a Swiffer sheet and lightly rub

Use a dampened sponge and lightly rub then dry

If neither of these ideas remove the grime from your molding, you may have dust in your paintable caulk. If so, you can get a can of matching molding paint and paint the top of your molding. As long as the paint color matches, the fresh painting job will blend in with the entire molding and look freshly painted!

BOOK TRAILER

Congratulations on your debut novel, PERIL! Tell us how you found out about your first publishing contract.

I was at one of my daughter’s softball games the first time my agent called to give me the good news. I’m bad about checking caller ID, and didn’t realize he called, so it was the next day before he tried again. When I saw the caller ID display, my stomach started doing flip-flops and my legs went weak. An agent doesn’t just call a client, it’s either really good news, or really bad news, and I hoped it was the good news I’d been waiting for. I could barely speak and my voice probably sounded like a mouse squeaking, but I did manage a small strangled scream and plenty of thank you’s.

What’s your biggest challenge in balancing writing time with your other responsibilities (homeschool mom, Yonder Press Editor, author, wife, cook, housecleaner…..)?

Time. There’s never enough of it. I’ve tried to set schedules, but I have a tendency to become a slave to my schedule, so God usually has to remind me that they aren’t a good idea (often with a 2×4 moment upside the head ‘cause I can be so dense). What He really wants me to do is seek Him each day and follow His lead regarding what He knows really needs to get done. It seems chaotic, but when I truly seek Him, things seem to get done much better than when I try to do it myself.

Your stories are NASCAR related, why?

It all started with my daughter. Shortly before she turned eight, she announced that she had a favorite NASCAR driver. Since I knew almost nothing about stock car racing (because I always fell asleep while my husband watched a race), I decided I’d better pay more attention so I could decide whether this man was someone we could approve of her rooting for. At that time, I was also creating stories to entertain myself while my kids had violin and piano lessons and baseball and soccer practice. Once I knew a little more about NASCAR, I decided the addition of a driver and some tracks as settings would add more excitement to my stories. At the time, I never intended to write a novel, but once God nudged me and I started weaving the stories into a novel, I realized that my hunch was correct and it added an exciting and unique flavor to my book.

Who/What spurs you to write? Where do your story and character ideas come from?

My stories usually start with a single idea, then I start asking questions and let my imagination have free reign. The stories that eventually became PERIL began with the question, “What if someone could…” Once I started to write my novel, I asked questions like, “How would this character respond to this?” and “What would make a character behave this way?” As I began to revise the book and learned more about how to write a good story, I reviewed the scenes and asked, “What is the worst thing that could happen in this scene?” Then I would make it happen.

And how do your faith and spiritual life play into the picture and affect your storytelling?

I love stories full of suspense and twists I don’t anticipate, but I’m so tired of authors who add things to their books that are offensive to Christians and sometimes even go so far as to be anti-Christian. I want my stories to be just as compelling, but have a Christian worldview. So you’ll get the action and suspense, even some violence (although not graphic) in my books, but they won’t lift up immoral behavior.

I see a book two, CONSPIRACY. Can you tell us the plans you have for this novel?

Conspiracy will pick up right where PERIL leaves off. Joanne’s boss, the head of the country’s most clandestine intelligence organization is framed for selling secrets to a foreign government. Along with the help of her friend, NASCAR champion Stuart Jackson, she vows to help George set things straight in spite of the personal tragedies engulfing her life. CONSPIRACY is scheduled to come out in the summer of 2012.

The third book in the Fast Track Thriller series is REVENGE, is due out in 2013. In it, the man who framed George is be behind bars, but he wants revenge. He promises to expose her deepest secrets to the entire world and isn’t afraid to threaten her loved ones to accomplish it. When he threatens Stuart’s during a race, will she trade her secrets in order to save him?

Suzanne, thank you for sharing with us!
