The 2009 Formula 1 season is now concluded and frankly it is a shame that we had the 'guess the position' competition on our web-site and not 'guess what will go wrong with Heikki's weekend'. Every racing weekend we could be quite certain that something will go wrong. For the last race of the season the first problems were reserved for the qualification. Kovy’s speed gave us hope that he could actually make it to the front row – yes!, but it never went that far thanks to the gearbox issues. His car got stuck in second gear and with that all his chances to gain a good starting position were shot.

„While I'm really looking forward to race at a classic racetrack like Suzuka for the first time, I don't think the circuit will be ideal for our package“, stated Heikki Kovalainen when he and the team were heading towards Suzuka – and sadly he was right. After the good showing on both Friday and Saturday mornings every session that mattered went wrong. In the quali Kovy only managed P9 after hitting the barriers in Q2.

Friday was a day of mixed emotions for Heikki in Suzuka. People who raced in Suzuka before, together with the rookies of the track (like Heikki) were wondering if weather would be kinder to them than it was in Fuji. Wrong!

Track surface during the morning session was still very damp and not so good for finding good balance. In these difficult conditions Heikki ran only 24 laps but was still able to manage the fastest time in the morning, the one no other driver could match.
