Water droplet photography

You can have so much fun with your camera and water.
Two things to remember when photographing water is that you need plenty of available light and a quick shutter speed to be able to freeze the action. Your camera on a tripod so that it is still and focused on the glass while you simultaneously poor the water and press your shutter, have your camera on continuous mode so that it fires several shots in one go. You also need a bucket underneath the glass so that your floor wont get too wet from all the splashing water.
Here are a few shots I did yesterday while just testing out my set up. I need to work on my tilting wine glass because it is not properly fastened so I don't dare poor too much water and too quickly. I would like the water to go splash everywhere but if I poor quicker than I did yesterday my wine glass would fall and break so need to figure out how to make it more stable before I try again. :-)

I can't believe that I did not have time to make any postings in December at all. I was super busy with so many photography projects at once through out December and then on top of that I caught a really bad cold. I am still suffering a bit from it. Not nice at all. Hope you are all alright and have managed to duck the colds and the flu's for this season.

I am right now working on a Photography Workshop so if you are interested to learn more about how to use all the different buttons on your camera please give me a call. I do One on One work shops as well as small groups.
I start at the level of photography you are at and then we go through the topics that you want to learn more about. Be it general photography or more specific areas of photography that you would like to niche in on. Just let me know at our first meeting.
I would like to see samples of your photography work first so that I can see where you are in your photography and where we need to go more in depth.
I customize the photography workshop to suite your schedule and photography level.
To start with I have a Photography Workshop Package of 6 hours split into 3 or 4 sessions. (Most of the time 2 hours at a time) You bring your camera along we start with some theory where I explain and show samples then we go out together and photograph the areas you want learn more about.

Dubai Wedding Photography Session

I had the pleasure to meet this lovely couple from Norway while they were here getting married at the Seamens church. I also ended up being a witness to their wedding which was very nice. The ceremony was short and lovely. I did not cry maybe because I was concentrating on photographing at the same time? I met the couple and their daughters a few days in advance at the Seamens church to go through our photography session, I also took a look around the area for good photography spots, to be honest there were not that many so I suggested that we start at the church then we all drive down to the beach and finish off the photography session there. Since they were in Dubai on holiday they loved that idea, there is nothing more than a beach that gives a photograph that holiday feeling. Don't you agree?

Dubai Beach Family Photography Session

I met this lovely Family one very early morning in Dubai. The weather is now starting to become comfortable for beach photography shoots. I must give lots of credit to these teens parents because even though it was so early they were so well behaved I mean they actually did what I asked. I told them to run at 07.00 in the morning on the beach and they did, I told them to jump and they did brilliant I wish all my family photography shoots were this easy we were done in no time du to the efficiency. I loved it!

If you want your Family Photography Session done before Christmas now is the time to book it weekends are filling up very fast as we speak.

Dubai Beach Photography Shoots

The weather is now finally getting nice and comfortable for outdoor photography shoots here in Dubai.

I can tell this by that my calendar is getting booked up quickly for outdoor Christmas Photography Shoots.

Beach shoots is on the top of everyones Christmas lists it seams this winter! :-)

I can say that the best hour to photograph on the beach is 07.00 in the morning so you and your family need an early start but it is well worth it because the light is so beatiful then.

The golden hour I believe is only 40 minutes long it is gone by the time it is 07.40

This photography shoot we started at 08.00 and that is a little bit too late. We did also go to a nearby park when the sun was just too high up in the sky.

When you photograph on the beach you need to be careful so that everyone does not squint too much and on all the photographs. That is why starting early before the sun gets too high and too strong is a good idea, you get that golden shimmer without any problems of your subjects squinting.

If find yourself out photographing later on during the day and cannot find any open shade one of my tips that I do sometimes is that I count to 3. Everyone have their eyes closed and on 3 they open them. This however does not work on small children :-)

Dubai Teenage Photography Shoot

I had the pleasure to meet 8 young girls for a fun filled photography shoot. The birthday girl had gotten a photography shoot with her friends as a present from her parents. What better present is there??? Of course I am biased since I am the photographer LOL.
The girls had really planned the shoot nicely with coordinated clothes and everything: At that age (13) they are up to almost any suggestions you have which I thought was great fun as well as they were bubbling with ideas themselves of what we should do. It was hot but the girls were great I was sweating a lot but they hardly broke a sweat they are definitively used to cope with the heat better than I was. The mum was saying that they have PE outdoors at school so I guess they have to get used to the heat in order to cope with that.

Alumni Iftar evening at Habtoor Grand Hotel Dubai

Last weekend I photographed an iftar event at the Habtoor Grand Hotel in Dubai. What a large hotel with even larger grounds I have in the past only been there for dinner in the main building so have not had the opportunity to walk the grounds. Well I didn't this time either due to that it was very hot and humid even though it being an evening event. I was very glad that they had golf carts driving people around so that I did not have to walk all the way down to the beach with my tripod and all my cameras, I always bring two cameras for a photography job, for one thing I don't need to swap lenses I just swap camera and also incase something would go wrong with one camera I always have the back up one to finish the job with. Just to be on the safe side. :-)
It was a fun gathering of people at the Alumni iftar event. Most people worked in finance, what they all had in common was that they had all Graduated from a University. There were some particular ones that were invited but can't remember them all right now so wont mention any of them so that no one will feel left out.

I would like to say a Big Thank you to everyone that sent in a photograph of your children to Joanna at Babatude this week. She had loads of emails with gorgeous children to choose from. We only needed two for the shoot so could not select everyone unfortunately. I am sure more opportunities will come up later on so keep an eye out on this space!

We are still in the midst of a very hot and humid Ramadan here in Dubai. But it is never too early to start thinking of gifts to your loved ones that might not live next door to you. Since us expats need to consider delivery times etc.

Love to play with Silhouettes

When it comes to silhouette photography you can have loads of fun playing with the light.

But you do need a light source. I went to this couples house the other day to scout for good locations for our photography shoot. They have a lovely hallway upstairs with a window that I thought will work great for loads of different kinds of shots I used the window as one of my light sources. On the day I woke up thinking that I can probably do some great silhouettes with this couple as well. I was inspired by the Engagement photography shoot I did the other week were the couple were standing in the car park of the Jumeriah Madiant and the light was coming in through the car park exit. (If you don't remember i have added that image below as well) Now my problem when I saw the window again was that it was not as large as I was hoping it would be and it had a beam going across it as well blocking out the light.

But it is still doable, I want to show you that with these before and after images below. So even when you have dire surroundings that you need to work with you can still work that into your advantage and make great silhouettes. I used Photoshop to finalize these images.

You can also change the features a bit of the people in the photograph if you like. Just like they do in the glossy magazines. Can you tell the difference?

This bottom image needed the least work due to the light conditions and location being exactly what we wanted to get the shot compared to the two first images.

Dubai Madinat Jumeirah Engagement shoot

I had a wonderful time at the Madinat Jumeirah last week photographing a couple that are getting married later on in the year and they wanted photographs that they could use for their wedding invitations and for the save the date cards. So with that in mind we ventured around Madiant Souk area. It was a very sandy and windy day we had picked which in a way was not too bad because that meant there would be no direct sunlight which is a good thing but it also made everything look very hazy and gave very dull colours. But thankfully we have photoshop to help us out on those days. :-)

Family Beach Photography next to the Burj Al Arab Hotel

Beat the Heat!

Last week I photographed a Swedish family next to the Burj Al Arab Hotel. The open beach next to the hotel is very popular for photo shoots, having the 7 star hotel in the background you will definitively know where the photograph was taken. I have had 3 families asking to have their family beach shoots next to the Burj Al Arab Hotel in the last week. So it is safe to say that it is a popular location. It is also popular for tourists. Through these photo shoots I have learned that the better time to photograph on this particular beach is to start at around 17.30 yes the light is better due to that the sun is setting but also there are slightly less people on the beach compared to if you start your photography shoot at 17.00. Because between 17.00 and 17.15 you have three tourist busses arriving and the beach get over crowded by the tourists. One day there were Japanese tourists when I did this shoot the buses were full of Indian tourists. They all go out on the beach fully dressed (it must be very uncomfortably hot for them) and photograph at everything they see. The Burj Al Arab is a popular subject but our photography shoot also becomes very interesting for them. So not only are they in my view finder they are also photographing us. Maybe we look like celebrities? Or we will become celebrities??? Hum now when I think about it maybe I should deliberately start the shoot at 17.00 I might get the next red carpet invitation due to that..... Something to ponder over. :-)

Dubai Beach Photography Shoot

The other day I was at the beach with a lovely family we met up at 17.30 so we had the sunset to play with for our shoot which is always loads of fun.

You always get the best and relaxing smiles when you have everyone do something different and quirky when they are properly enjoying themselves. For this shot we had the dad pull everyone along running towards me. We also tried it with the kids pulling but they were not strong enough to get the proper fun pull effect for this kind of shot. The kids were loving it!

Dubai Marina Maternity Photo Shoot

I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely couple in their home in the Marina area of Dubai it is one of the newer areas, when I arrived to Dubai 2003 there were absolutely nothing where their lovely apartment is located. Quite amazing how fast a whole little city within the city of Dubai have been created.

Recently I have had many maternity photography shoots so it is definitively in to capture the lovely glowing stage of Maternity and I just love doing it.

12 Month Photography Package - For AED 2,450.
For those of you that may be interested in capturing your newborn child's first milestone stages I have a 12 month photography package. That includes 4 photography shoots within one year.

The Swedes against the Swiss in a Golf Tournament

The Annual Golf Challenge "ABB Cup" between the Swedish Business Council and the Swiss Business Council took place last Tuesday at Jebel Ali Golf Resort. I was there documenting the event, we had a lovely day the temperature was just perfect with a bit of a cool breeze coming in as well. We could not have ordered better golfing weather really.
I did not attend last year but I have been told that the Swiss were crowned the winners so the Swedes had put forward their best teams in order take back the crown. It was a close battle between all the six foursome teams, in the end the final score was all square so the battle will continue again next year.

Audi Quattro Golf Day.

I have just delivered the images I took on Thursday for the Audi Quattro Cup 2011.

Where the winning team will get to go and compete in Hong Kong! Yey what a treat that will be for them this news none of the contestants knew when they were playing so it was a great suprise at the presentation.
Those of you that know me also know that I do photograph a lot of golf tournament so this was nothing new to me and as always very enjoyable. Everyone are always so happy at these kinds of social gatherings.
I even met a few from my own golf club and that also live in the same building as I am. I have just moved in and have not met anyone yet really, part from another Swedish couple.

The golf day was held at the Montgomery Golf Club in Dubai, we were treated with gorgeous Dubai winter weather, temperatures were around 28C with a slight cool breeze and partly cloudy just perfect for golf and to photograph golf as I was doing. When I accepted this job a few weeks ago we had a hot spell here in Dubai and I was thinking oh dear it might get really uncomfortably hot out on the golf course but it did not it was just perfect. I had geared up with lots of water and I was wearing SPF 50 just to make sure I did not burn or dehydrate myself. You can never bee to careful when you work out in the sun.

There were loads of different Audi cars spread out around the golf course this one above was positioned a bit precarious and was almost hit by a golf ball from the tee.

I was busy with sport photography on Thursday and then I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely mother to be for twins on Saturday for a maternity shoot I did for her at her house, images of that are to come so stay tuned.
I just love when you have the opportunity to photograph many diverse things it keeps your creativity going.
