More to Frame

One of the spaces I tend to neglect when setting up a new place is our bedroom.

So, after dealing with some heating/mold/plaster issues this winter (yay, new home ownership!), I was so happy to get some frames up on the walls. I used the old trick I’ve seen on Pinterest and favorite blogs from time to time. It took a tiny bit more effort than simply hammering in the nails but I am far happier with the results:)

I laid out all the frames we still wanted to hang on the kitchen table and traced their size on butcher paper. Then I used painters tape to try some different arrangements and spacing on the walls. I tend to be a little too freakish when it comes to things being symmetrical so thankfully a friend assured me that it did not matter that the window is slightly left and not right in the center. The moral of the story is: get those frames on the wall- you will not regret it.

I have a mish mosh of photos for you since this took me a couple of weeks to complete in bits and pieces. As for the frame content, I used some photos Jeremy took in NYC, some watercolor prints from our honeymoon, instagram shots of the Ox and a few photos of my mom. I re-used frames and found a few that we’d purchased long ago and never filled. I wanted this wall to be personal- and everything on it represents something near and dear to our hearts. The best part is that we can keep adding as we have more to frame.

Don’t be like me and wait nearly a year to get those last few frames up on the wall. They make me smile every day!

Berry Season

This year has been unseasonably warm in Seattle and the berries are already out! As I’m attempting to slow down in my third trimester I was lamenting that we might not make it out to a u-pick spot this year…when our neighbors invited us over to pick some of theirs. We were thrilled!

This weekend we had way too many berries, berry pankcakes and I finished off the last in our fridge with this cobbler. I’m sure I’ve recommended it before but do yourself a favor and make the easiest and most delicious cobbler recipe ever. I tend to use frozen berries most of the year which makes it even simpler.

At a friend’s house the other day I was introduced to yet another spice variety that I am positive has been right under my nose for years- Tajin Classico. It reminds me a tiny bit of the Sriracha Lime Popcorn we also enjoy from time to time. Tangy, spicy and satisfying. I finally hunted it down in the fruit section of our local Safeway- though I’m sure it could be found easily at any Mexican market (and on Amazon in large quantity). With this combo we use olive oil spray and toss the spice with some salt.

The perfect lazy-person’s (or tired parent’s) late-night snack! Enjoy!

Last year we were at a friends’ house and noticed their beautiful kitchen table.

They bought it, custom made, from The Shaker Craftsman - who sets up shop at the Fremont Sunday Market and makes beautiful tables, desks, hutches, chairs, you name it, in Yakima (Eastern Washington) and delivers them to Seattle if needed. Not only is this an awesome family-owned business with great customer service, but their prices are incredibly affordable and the quality and workmanship of the furniture is gorgeous.

They use reclaimed wood and offer a wide variety of wood-types, furniture styles, sizes and finishes. They even give you information on where the wood used for your furniture came from. It does not get better than this, folks, if you are looking to invest in solid furniture for your home.

We are so thrilled with our new table (American Chestnut, reclaimed finish, shaker legs, with extensions for many future big holiday meals:) and hope to invest in another Shaker Craftsman piece down the line.
