Logistics: future challenges and opportunities

As part of the “Rebuild Ukraine” series, Henniger Winkelmann Consulting has analysed the logistics sector in this study. The reconstruction effort will generate substantial flows of goods, which will need to be transported by sea, rail and road. Reconstruction of Ukraine – Opportunities for the German Economy

On 25 March 2026, an event entitled “Reconstruction of Ukraine – Opportunities for the German Economy” took place at the Munich Press Club. The event was jointly organised by the Bavarian Industry Association (VBW) and the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations. HWC was represented by partner Dr Thomas Winkelmann.

Following introductory presentations from Kyiv, Brussels and Munich, participants discussed key issues relating to the facts, needs and scale of the reconstruction, support for market entry, tenders in Ukraine, and financial instruments provided by the EU and the German government.

In conclusion, it was noted that, despite the ongoing war, it is necessary to begin participating in the reconstruction now in order to accelerate it and seize market opportunities.

German & Central and Eastern European Business Outlook 2026

For the second year running, the German Business Committee for Eastern Europe and KPMG conducted a survey of German companies actively operating in the CEE region. HWC took part once again and was represented by partner Dr Thomas Winkelmann at the presentation and discussion of the results on 23 March 2026.

The facts and outlook presented revealed clear trends and were, in some cases, surprising. Who is aware that Germany’s trade volume with CEE is greater than that with the US and China combined, or that Ukraine, despite the war, ranks second as an attractive investment location?

On 4 March, Dr. Thomas Winkelmann, partner at HWC, presented some aspects, opportunities and challenges relating to this topic at an event entitled ‘International Construction’ held at the German Construction Industry Association (Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie e.V.). The presentation was followed by a lively discussion with contributions from the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations (Ostausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft).

Lecture to students at KROK University

On 25 February 2026, Dr Thomas Winkelmann, partner at HWC, gave a lecture to students as part of the collaboration with KROK University.

Topics such as current realities and prospects in Ukraine, the future of the Ukrainian economy in the context of European integration, the most promising industries for young professionals, the importance of practical experience in consulting and outsourcing, and career opportunities in international companies were discussed. The event ended with a Q&A session with the students.

In the days that followed, we received consistently positive feedback from both teachers and students, so we will continue this series of events on various topics.

HWC meeting with KROK University

On 20 October 2025, a meeting organized jointly with the KROK Career Centre took place with various representatives from the departments of KROK University. Representing KROK were Oleg Buchanets, Director of the Career Centre; Marina Prochorova, Head of the International Business Department; Natalia Stepanenko, Dean of the Law Faculty; Viktor Alkem, Head of the Management Technologies Faculty; Anna Pazeyeva, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Management Technologies, and Nikolai Fedunov, Deputy Director of the KROK University Professional College. HWC was represented by Managing Partner Dr. Thomas Winkelmann.

After presenting our company and its business areas, we answered questions of interest. We then discussed the parties’ interests in cooperation.

As a result of the meeting, a cooperation agreement was signed. Within the framework of this agreement, HWC plans to hold joint events, offer internships for students from various departments, and organize lectures for students at KROK University.

We hope for a long and mutually beneficial cooperation!

On September 12, the Ostausschuss der deutschen Wirtschaft organized the 4th online exchange on the topic:

“Team Germany – Advancing the Reconstruction of Ukraine Together.”

More than 200 participants registered for this event. The focus this time was on infrastructure, transport, and logistics.
