Bringing Some Funky to a Layout, with Helmar and Gauche Alchemy

Hello! It's Amy here today, recently back from a family adventure to Hawaii, and very excited to share a recent project featuring photos from our trip with you, that ALSO uses the June Helmar Challenge sketch! (Give it a try, and WIN, not to mention we love seeing your lovely work!).

I'm a lucky gal, to be on both the Gauche Alchemy and Helmar teams, so I have learned that one canNOT live without the other! Mixed media elements (like the very unique bits in Gauche Alchemy kits) need good adhesives like Helmar 450 Quick Dry to keep them securely on the page, especially if they are a bit heavy. Also, the glue used on punchinella (that sparkly circley sequin waste in the picture below) needs to be as transparent as possible....so Helmar's Premium Craft Glue is the answer there.

The lovely cherry blossom fabric strip from a Gauche Alchemy Themed Paper Crafting Kit , pictured above, is NOT all wrinkled and bubbly....because it easily attached to the page using Helmar Premium Craft Glue. I haven't found that to be true with any other adhesive. And the delicate Japanese paper strip? (yes, I know this is dedicated to Chinatown, but many Asian cultures were represented there), it stays without ripping, courtesy of a Helmar Adhesive Runner . Well, and we can't leave out that fun little foot shaped paper clip....from a Gauche Alchemy Mixed Media Color Kit, because the Gauche Mamas know how to bring the cool funk to the papercrafting table.

Flowers, sequins, a sweet orange butterfly....all color kit contents, all adhered with just a touch Helmar 450 Quick Dry! Trust me, it will NOT fall off of the layout, either. The token below, that is glued to the butterfly? It doesn't even wiggle!

Frappuccino is Clearly Cool!

I used to totally LOVE Frappuccino...But now I am a tea girl. I have to say these bottles still make the perfect vases! They are great little gifts to give with a small bouquet or a great pencil holder.

I have decorated my vase with some fabulous papers from Gauche Alchemy. I really love how it turned out...nice and sunny and bright!

I have used Helmar 450 to attach the paper to the glass. Helmar Professional Craft Glue was used to add the embellies to the paper.

The fun medallion turned out great with the school themed paper!

Las Vegas Or Bust {Gauche Alchemy & Helmar by DeeDee Catron}

Good morning! DeeDee here today!

The Helmar Team and the Gauche Alchemy team have collided and are bringing you some gluey gauchy goodness all week long! Today I've put together a sort of mixed media-ish layout. I was so SUPERBLY lucky to be sent the Mile High Kit club which contains all sorts of Las Vegas and travel themed ephemera. It ended up being PERFECT for me as early last year we made a very significant move in our lives from the flatlands of Wyoming to the big city lights of Las Vegas.

So I'm sharing a Las Vegas or BUST layout with you! The bottom patterned paper is from the Gauche Alchemy Kit (their kits happen to be limited edition, so this one is retired, but all of their kits are packed to the GILLS with themed ephemera!) I adhered down a super piece of brail paper with Helmar's Quickfix Adhesive Runner.

I tried a new to me technique that includes using a piece of Gauche Alchemy's Punchinella as a mask and Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots as the medium. I dumped some micro beads and sead beeds over the new circle pattern on my background. TIP: If you do something like this, set it to the side for the full 48 hours to dry. And I suggest pressing your loose beads into the glue, making sure there's a nice big area of contact between the adhesive and bead. (Check out the Helmar Live show this Tuesday with Amy for another super cool technique using Helmar as a RESIST!) To achieve the rest of my background I splattered Glimmer mist in Leather and Salmon.

You can see here the super dimension that all the different pieces from the kit create when layered on each other. For a little extra depth I've attached the vintage playing card to the chipboard tag with Helmar's Zapdots. Other products used: Chevron Arrow pieces from UmWowStudio, Coral Alphas from Glitz, Epoxy Brad from BasicGrey, dymo label maker, walnut stain distress ink by Ranger.

Layout creating with Helmar Professional Acid free glue

Hi it’s Beck Beattie here again to show you what I have been up to in my creating with Helmar Professional Acid free glue. This is one of my favourite go to glues alongside Helmar 450 Quick Dry and Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots that I use on pretty much every one of my Scrapooking Layouts.

I just love to add dimension to my layouts and I have varied ways that I do this. The most common for me would be to use old cardboard boxes that I cut up save and recycle. Now this can’t be done with this and paper alone so I need my Helmar to help keep it all together. My glue of choice for this application is Helmar Professional Acid Free glue. It is the strongest paper to paper bond so it keeps it all stuck down really well, and this is important given cardboard can add a little extra weight to the layout. I find it best to use cardboard under larger pieces, adding dimension while keeping it all very flat.

When I start to get smaller pieces that I like to raise, this is when I shift to Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots, so that it isn’t really seen from the side. Lastly I always use Helmar 450 Quick Dry for behind my photos as this has the lowest water content of the Helmar adhesives ensuring no warping of my photo occurs whilst still being acid free.

The first layout I am sharing is my Fly and soar layout that I made using My Mind’s Eye Lost and Found ‘Be Amazing’ Collection teamed up with some Core-dinations cardstock, Hambley washi tape, and Basic Grey Rubons. For this layout I have used the rubon’s in the background on some distressed core-dinations cardstock to achieve a very distressed finish helping to frame the focal point of the layout which is my photo.

The next layout I am sharing with you is a layout I made using Echo Park’s ‘Note to self’ collection teamed up with Jo Sonja’s acrylic paint and some texture paste. For this layout I layered the different patterned papers on the layout and teamed them up with the sticker elements from the collection. The background was enhanced by stencilling acrylic paint mixed with texture paste onto the doiley and then placing the doiley at the opposite end of the layout. I also did some texture stamping into the doiley to give it a little more of a grungy ‘boy’ feel to what is usually quite a feminine item.

When adding dimension into my layouts using cardboard teamed with Helmar Professional Acid Free and Helmar Liquid Scrapdots, I look to add the cardboard in between each layer building it up as I go. If you are someone that doesn’t really like your layouts to be too dimensional simply add the cardboard and Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots and simply stick each layer of paper to each other using Helmar Professional acid Free glue.
