Dr. Marianne O’Donoghue of St. Luke’s Medical Center Chicago made an evaluation on skin care products as well as their respective manufacturing companies, including Cetaphil’s Neutrogena Gladerma, Clinique and Origins’ Estee Lauder, and Dove’s Lever among several others.

According to Dr. O’Donoghue, the gentlest products among those tested are ideal for people with oily skin, dry to very skin, and combination of both oily and dry skin. Consumers with naturally oily skin need to steer clear of products containing ingredients such as petrolatum and isopropyl myristate, as these can easily cause acne rosacea. The dermatologist also advised people with sensitive skin to use gentle, non-irritating cleansers.

As far as anti-aging skin care products go, sunscreen is an essential product to have. Products containing alpha hydroxy acids have also been found to be effective for skin stimulation and wrinkle control. Retinoid face creams and eye creams, which contain tretinoin, are the most effective in treating skin from conditions brought about by the sun’s UVA and UVB damage.

You should also avoid the wrong skincare products generally, especially when buying moisturizers. Propylene glycol repels skin moisture, rendering the products almost ineffective. Sodium laureth sulfate strips off moisture from the skin, even after rinsing.

Which skin care products are best?

This recent evaluation has clearly showed consumers one thing: not everything contained in skin care products are worthy for the skin. Many of the evaluated products, including Nivea, Lancome, Clinique, Origins, and Estee Lauder, were found to contain ingredients which are not exactly compatible with oily skin or highly sensitive skin. According to Dr. O’Donoghue, consumers are better off understanding their skin types first of all, before buying products over the shelf.

It’s also important to note that the recent studies revealed how basic and natural skin care steps are best in keeping premature aging at bay, such as applying sunscreen and choosing products containing alpha-hydroxy acids. Alpha hydroxy acids, which aid in wrinkle reduction and effective exfoliation, are actually found in many fruits, such as apples, grapes, and citrus. AHAs also come in the form of citric acid and lactic acid. If you don’t have access to the more expensive retinoid creams, it’s always best to go for vitamin-enriched skin care products that make use of fruit and plant extracts containing AHAs or alpha hydroxy acids.

According to statistics, people are spending as much 344 million dollars on anti-aging products alone. If you’re spending so much on your skin care regimen isn’t it time you finally understand what these products are actually doing for your skin?
While aloe vera has been used in traditional medicine for a variety of uses – from treating insect bites to heartburn and other digestive problems – it has also been tested to be excellent for the skin, especially in skin cell renewal and anti-aging.

The natural goodness of aloe vera
For the longest time, people have trusted the various medicinal benefits of aloe vera. Not only is this plant used in the treatment of minor burns and insect bites, it has also been used extensively as traditional medicine dating back to the 16th century! The natural cooling and healing benefits of aloe vera, compounded by its anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties, have earned this plant the illustrious title as a multi-healer. Aloe vera contains compounds such as polysaccharides, lectins, and anthraquinones, which contribute to its healing and anti-inflammatory abilities.

Benefits of aloe vera
Aloe vera has many benefits, especially for the skin, but some if it’s most common benefits include the following:
•	Treatment for first degree and second degree burns, insect bites, and skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis
•	Healthy cell growth stimulation
•	Ideal as a natural skin moisturizer
•	Elimination of minor skin pigmentations
•	Removal of dead skin cells for brighter skin
•	Promotes skin hydration without the oiliness

Scientific studies
For some time there has not been enough research to bolster the claims on aloe vera for skin health, but recent studies have proven that the polysaccharides contained in aloe vera gel contain moisture-binding elements that increase the production of fibroblast cells or cells found in the skin dermis. Aloe vera gel has the ability to bolster this production 6 times to 8 times faster than the usual pace of cell production. As fibroblast cell and collagen production are improved, the ability of the skin to lessen wrinkles and fine lines brought about by aging and sun exposure is improved tremendously as well.
The next time you’re looking for an all-natural remedy for burns and bites and premature skin aging, don’t hesitate to try out aloe vera. This power-packed plant has been used in many moisturizers, skin masks, and other skin care products. With its unique ability to penetrate the skin 4 X faster than water, you are essentially feeding your skin the vitamin-enriched hydration it needs, the cool and natural way!
Actresses or models looking luminous on the red carpet or on runways are not always the result of an excellent gene pool. Lucky for us, these celebrities usually have make-up artists who know how to use and apply the right shade of foundation on them. One of the most basic steps in getting your make up right is starting off with the right foundation. No amount of mascara or luscious red lips will hide a disastrously applied foundation, so make sure you have everything going well at the very beginning.
Here are five steps to a picture perfect foundation finish:

1.	Get the right shade
Choose a product that matches your skin type and a shade that is closest to your natural skin color. Pat McGrath of Covergirl suggests checking the foundation on your jaw line in natural sunlight. If the color disappears right into your skin, then you’re good to go.

2.	Apply moisturizer
Before applying any make-up, skin should be clean and well-moisturized. Allow the moisturizer to be absorbed, anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes, and wipe off any excess to ensure that the foundation adheres completely to your skin.

3.	The correct application
A sponge may be used in applying foundation, although your fingertips are also excellent when dotting liquid foundation onto your face. Wetting the sponge helps to control the soaking of foundation, says Chicago-based makeup artist Lisa Trunda. For powder foundation, using a brush is best.

4.	Setting with powder
Translucent powder sets the foundation and makes it last longer. Don’t forget to set your foundation by applying powder immediately after finishing.

5.	The power of concealer
You may add concealer to problem areas before applying foundation or after applying foundation and before finishing off with the translucent powder. A concealer will come in handy if some flaws aren’t covered up by the foundation. This is why most makeup pros recommend applying concealer right after applying your foundation.

The foundation serves as the “groundwork” of your makeup. So don’t forget to get one in the right shade. And don’t forget to choose an SPF-loaded foundation when you’re outdoors. Good make-up always starts with great skin, and with a healthy glowing skin, you can be sure half the job is already done.
Droopy eye lids give off an impression of tiredness and poor skin elasticity. When you have eyelids that sag, it’s crucial for you to use the right make up for them, while giving your eyelashes and eyebrows some equal attention as well.

Applying the right eye shadow
To remedy droopy eyelids, you will need both a light-tone eye shadow and a dark-tone eye shadow. The light tone eye shadow normally serves as a base, while the darker tone allows you to give your eyelids a visual lift. Before applying any of these eye-shadows however, make sure that you apply a liquid concealer first to both eyelids. A concealer serves as foundation for the makeup, making it last much longer.

Once you’re done applying the concealer, you can proceed with the application of the light-tone eye shadow. You may use a brush or your finger for this. The best way is to apply the eye shadow from the corner of the eye lid and gradually to the center.

Before applying the darker eye shadow, determine first which part of the eyelid needs the most lift. Normally, the droopy portion is found near the center, so this is where you need to focus more. Apply the darker eye shadow in an outward direction, brushing up toward where the creasing is most obvious. This application helps to awaken your eyes and camouflage the droopiness.

Other tips
To further open up your eyes, don’t forget to groom your brows and to use mascara for your lashes. A natural arch is best, as this complements your face shape most effectively. As for the mascara, a double coat for both the upper and lower lashes is needed, to give more volume to your lashes and draw more attention to them.
You will also need eyeliner to add contour to the lash line under your eyes and the inner edge of your pupils. Black eye liners produce a more unnatural effect while deep-brown eyeliners provide more subtle results. Dark under eye circles may emphasize droopy eyelids even more, so make sure that you apply concealer under the eyes, too.
The right eye makeup can easily bring more life to your eyes and take years off your face. Say goodbye to droopy eyelids, and say hello to beautiful, more animated eyes with these easy, do-it-yourself make up tips.

The Wonders of Organic Almond Oil

Almonds, highly recognized for their delicate flavor and dietary fiber content, are considered to be one of the world’s healthiest foods.
So it doesn’t come as a surprise why organic almond oil – produced by pressing almonds but without refining or processing the oil – is also considered to be among the best skin care oils available. Loaded with monounsaturated fats and antioxidants like Vitamin E, almonds produce natural oils which have a softening, moisture-balancing effect on the skin, especially when applied topically.

Moisturizing effects
One of the best things about almond oil is that it is an excellent emollient. Emollients have the ability to soften or relax the skin; and almond oil is one of the most effective natural, topical emollients available. The moisturizing effect of emollients works by reducing water loss on the epidermis, or the skin’s outermost layer, and protects it by effectively sealing in moisture. By keeping skin moisture levels in check, the skin cells on the epidermis are able to repair themselves, resulting in healthier skin.

Excellent components
Almond oil has excellent components, including oleic acid and linoleic fatty acid. An almond is made up of as much as 49% oils and as much as 62% of oleic acid. Oleic acid is actually an omega 9 fatty acid, while Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated omega 6 fatty acid. The essential omega 3, omega 6, and omega 9 fatty acids all produce prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are necessary in keeping skin well-moisturized and healthy.

Dry skin treatment
Due to the impressive moisturizing capabilities of almond oil, it has been used as a natural treatment for dry skin as well as for inflammatory skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema. Almond oil relieves skin irritation, inflammation, and itching, and also helps maintain healthier skin around the sensitive eye area. Applying almond oil has also been known to help reduce crow’s feet and dark under-eye circles.
Mildly aromatic and priced just right, there is every reason for your skin to love almond oil. Whether applied topically as oil or consumed in its raw form as a snack, almonds are loaded with Vitamin E goodness – a whopping 7.3 mg per ounce. So whether you love eating almonds as a post-workout snack or like using skin products containing almond oil, there is not much difference, really. You are already doing your skin, and your health, a very huge favor!

Estrogen-laden Moisturizers Pose Added Risks to Women with Breast Cancer

Although applying topical moisturizers is considered vital in keeping your skin well-hydrated, not all brands available in the market are actually risk-free. According to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, some moisturizing creams were found to contain estrogenically active ingredients, which are especially perilous to women diagnosed with breast cancer. The study, which involved the testing of 16 different products, was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2009.

The breast cancer and estrogen connection
Estrogen is an essential hormone produced naturally by the body and is especially important in controlling the menstrual cycle, sexual and breast development, and in maintaining healthy heart function. However, exposure to estrogen also increases a woman’s risk for breast cancer. For women already diagnosed with breast cancer, unnecessary exposure to estrogen can significantly affect their chances for recovery or survival.

The importance of safer skin care choices
Since estrogen is considered as one of the most significant risks for breast cancer, patients need to understand how the use of skin care products containing estrogenically active substances, such as estadiol, estrone, and estradiol, may affect their current health condition. All the products sent for testing by the American Society of Clinical Oncology did not list the substances in their ingredients list; although the tests showed significant percentages of estrogen in the products.

It’s shocking to note that women already suffering from breast cancer are unwittingly exposing themselves to more estrogen by using these moisturizers. Many of these face cream brands are marketing their products as so-called “youth enhancers”, without making sure that their ingredients list are accurate. Women deserve to know what’s in the face creams they’re using, especially those who are already suffering from certain health conditions like cancer. With the studies done on these products however, it’s clear that some skin care brands fail to understand what ethical marketing is all about.

While it’s fine for skin care companies to promote the youth-enhancing capabilities of their products, a little transparency can go a long way. Women, especially those with delicate health conditions, need to know what’s in the topical creams and moisturizers they’re using, so they can make effective skin care choices without putting their health at risk.

The 4 Basic Skin Care Needs

Caring for your skin does not have to be expensive. There are lots of simple procedures you can avail of to have a radiant skin. Go for a great looking skin by using some tried and tested methods to prevent unwanted wrinkles. Everybody wants to have a glowing skin that is attractive rather than dry and creasy. The following are the four basic skin care needs for you to have a young looking and beautiful skin that you always longed for:

Cleanse your Face
Using a cleanser for your face is one of the simplest methods. Remove dirt by washing your face with warm water. Use natural cleanser that does not contain harmful chemicals such as fragrance or oil. Hemloq’s Fresh Citrus Wash is the perfect answer for you if you are looking for preservative free products. Avoid using a bar of soap in your face for it contains harmful elements.

Use Exfoliants
Exfoliants can strip away worn-out old skin. It can be a revitalizing experience for your face. Exfoliants make your skin smooth, start the creation of new collagen and help improve the manifestation of face lines or wrinkles and mild pimples.

Moisturize your Skin
It is advisable to use a moisturizer after you use a cleanser and an exfoliant. There is lots of moisturizer that you can choose from and you should get the best moisturizer that appropriate for your skin. The best time to use a moisturizer is when your skin is still damp because it locks in the moisture. Apply the moisturizer in both the face and neck to make it balance. Use a night moisturizing cream at night to help your skin relax and helps prevent wrinkles.

Apply Sunscreen
Too much heat from the sun can damage your skin. The major cause of wrinkles is sun damage. Applying sunscreen is the best protection you can do to your skin before going out in the sun. You should remember to wear sunscreen even during a cloudy day outside. Wearing sunscreen will help prevent sunburn, precipitate aging and skin cancer.

Skin Care Tips For Dealing With Acne

Everyone who is suffering from acne particularly on the face has a hard time. It can lower your self-esteem and destroy confidence.

What is acne? Actually, it’s a type of skin disease typified by pimples that appears on different parts of the body such as on the face, back and chest. It normally occurs when the pores of the skin builds up too much bacteria, oil and dead skin cells.
The following are some skin care tips for dealing with acne and how to help prevent it from breaking out and possibly avoid getting it:

Wash your Face Twice a Day
People suffering from acne should wash their face no more than two times a day using warm water and a soap intended for acne treatment. In a circular motion, gently massage your face with the use of the soap. Remember not to scrub for it can cause irritation. Dermatologists recommend applying lotion which contains benzoyl peroxide to help minimize excessive oil and harmful bacteria.

Avoid Popping the Pimples
Although it is sometimes too tempting to pop the pimples, one should always bear in mind that popping will tend to push the pimple furthermore in the skin causing it to swell and it will become more irritated and can cause pimple scars.

Avoid Touching the Infected Area
As much as possible, avoid touching your skin with your hands. Touching the affected area only tends to get your skin additional oil from your hand that may result in spreading the bacteria and further breakouts. It will also make your skin irritated and inflamed. Always remember to wash your hands before applying anything to your skin.

Use A Moisturizer
Applying a moisturizer helps prevent excessive oil. Acne breakouts are caused by excessive oil and harmful bacteria. It is advisable to use a moisturizer after washing the face and the skin because a skin not moisturized will only make the skin produce some extra oil. Breakouts are caused once the skin generates the oil, thereby being trapped in the pores repeating the cycle over and over again. Applying a moisturizer is the best solution after you wash your face to help prevent the cycle from repeating all over again. Always be sure to use a moisturizer that is oil free. There is a gel based moisturizer which is the best type to consider. Check out Hemloq’s Get Started set for the answer to a natural moisturizer and cleanser that works to prevent acne.

5 Natural remedies To Tighten Skin

Having a younger looking skin can give us a brand new look and feel. The makeup advertisement featured Lancōme’s Teint Miracle foundation and a close-up of the actress’ face, which L’Oreal eventually admitted to have been digitally manipulated. As reported on CNN, this action came in the heels of Jo Swinson’s complaint on airbrushed advertisements by L’Oreal for their Lancōme and Maybelline make-up foundation products. Jo Swinson, a politician in the UK, is the Deputy Leader for the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

The regulating body also issued a ban for Maybelline’s ad on their Eraser foundation, featuring supermodel Christy Turlington. Maybelline is also one of Lancōme’s makeup brands.

Distortion on the concept of beauty

Swinson might have a point here. The airbrushed and unrealistic photos, according to Swinson, reflect the popularity of digital manipulation in the field of fashion advertising. Isn’t it unreal that the media chooses to portray beauty in terms of having flawless complexions and slim physiques? Necessarily, this isn’t a true reflection of reality.
Perhaps this ban will serve as a wake-up call to companies and advertisers. Swinson is hoping so. Specifically, she wants to do away with relying on using unrealistic representations in ad campaigns.
Product features were blown out of proportions in the banned ad as well. The ability of the foundation to cover up wrinkles, lines, and skin blemishes was exaggerated into something that just didn’t look natural. In fact, the ASA was not even allowed to view versions of the photos which have not undergone airbrushing. That sounds rather fishy if you ask us. There’s no consumer trust going on here.

L’Oreal has a different story. They’re expressing disappointment over the entire issue. What they’re saying is that the images have been retouched but the products have actually undergone consumer tests So, they are quoting scientifically proven results. Roberts’ too-perfect visage was supposed to be merely an “aspirational picture,” and that by using the photograph the company has made an accurate illustration on what their products can deliver.

The side that’s more believable, however, is Jo Swinson’s. Roberts and Turlington have naturally beautiful faces, and so do women all over the world. Creating an already pretty picture of a model into a fake, airbrushed version is something that just isn’t promoting a good image in today’s society. It’s a violation of consumer trust when a company advertises unattainable, falsely perfect results of their products. We’re all going to look at it hopelessly, knowing there’s no real way to look that perfect in everyday life.

Banning Lancōme’s ad might just have been a brilliant idea.

Surprising Cocoa Benefits For Your Skin

Who doesn’t love a steaming cup of hot cocoa on a rainy day? Almost all of us do, and for all the mouth-watering goodness of chocolate or cocoa, researchers have also found that cocoa may be your skin’s next best friend. These surprising cocoa skin benefits are guaranteed to send your endorphins – the happy hormones released by your brain when you consume cocoa - soaring in no time at all.

More antioxidants than green tea or red wine

Green tea and red wine have always been known as antioxidant royalties, but you may be pleasantly surprised to discover that a cup of cocoa contains more antioxidants than either red wine or green tea. You actually obtain 10,000 milligrams of flavanols from 100 grams of cocoa. Flavanols are antioxidants found in cocoa known to improve brain function and protect the skin from free radical damage. And while you can always treat yourself to some hot cocoa or a bar of dark chocolate every now and then, you can always slather some cocoa goodness on your skin by choosing cocoa-infused skin care products.

Skin hydration improvement

When the skin becomes depleted of moisture, dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, and dry skin-related problems like eczema and dermatitis are likely to occur. Prolonged sun exposure, a poor diet, and other lifestyle factors all contribute to skin dryness. But according to studies by German scientists, the results of which were published in the Journal of Nutrition, cocoa helps in decreasing the skin’s sensitivity to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. The flavanols also help improve blood flow to the skin, contributing to hydration and healthier skin texture. And according to the American Academy of Dermatology, chocolate has nothing to do with skin breakouts such as acne.

The small cocoa bean has definitely gone a long way from its humble beginnings in South America. So forget the guilt and treat yourself to some dark chocolate – the variety with at least 50% cacao in them. Or choose all-natural cocoa-infused skin care products in the market and give your skin the chocolaty pampering it deserves!

The Truth behind Premature Skin Aging

Skin aging is something that only the fortyish and up should be concerned about. True? Well, not necessarily.

Premature skin aging, primarily caused by sun exposure and other intrinsic factors such as heredity and cellular recession, could very well affect individuals in their mid-twenties or early thirties. However prematurely aging skin is not entirely something that’s beyond your control. It is possible to slow down extrinsic skin aging, which is caused by a variety of environmental lifestyle factors.

What is the difference between intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging?

Intrinsic aging is a type of aging that occurs due to certain factors inherent in your genetic make-up. This can also be brought about by hormonal changes in the body, especially during a woman’s menopause years. Cellular impairment is also another factor in intrinsic aging. When the cells are impaired, skin regeneration slows down as a result.

Extrinsic aging, on the other hand, contributes to skin aging through a variety of external factors. These include excessive sun exposure, air pollution, sleeping positions that contribute to sleep lines, and lifestyle factors such as stress, unhealthy diet, and smoking.

What can you do to avoid premature skin aging?

Fortunately, there’s a lot you can do to stave off premature skin aging. While the intrinsic factors are already a given, the extrinsic factors offer you the advantage of control. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun results in skin collagen degradation, which may lead to photoaging, also known as premature skin aging. Thus, one of the smartest ways for you to protect your skin from faster aging is to keep out of the sun.

Smoking has also been linked to skin aging acceleration, and air pollution significantly affects skin oxygenation, which may contribute to dullness and wrinkles. Unhealthy eating compounded by a stressful lifestyle all contribute to older-looking skin.

A few things about skin aging are beyond your control, but there are more factors you can actually manage when it comes to healthy skin care. Supermodels are known for the beautiful, glowing skin as well. Despite their schedules, constant traveling, and skin exposure to lights and heavy makeup, how do they maintain their ageless complexions? Outlined below are the top 5 secrets to supermodel skin, and what you can do to get the same look, effortlessly.

1. Eating right
Supermodels are known for their healthy eating habits – and their enviable, willowy physiques. According to Victoria Secret models Giselle Bundchen and Miranda Kerr, they are fond of eating organic fruits and vegetables that hydrate both the body and the skin.

2. Choose the right products
Excellent skin needs effort so Claudia Schiffer advises using products that are practical and ideal for your skin type. She prefers cleansing her skin first thoroughly before applying moisturizers, as this prepares the skin for hydration. Supermodel Liberty Ross also dishes out advice on skin care basics, like cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.

3. Use sun protection
Prolonged sun exposure leads to faster skin aging and results in a drier, dull-looking complexion. While getting a tan now and then is good, supermodels are known to take extra care of their skin especially outdoors. Cheryl Tiegs, once named by Time magazine in 1978 as the “all American model” believes in using adequate sun protection, not only on the face but on her hands as well.

4. Get moving
Exercise allows oxygen to flow through your body and gives your skin a good workout. Physical activity and a regular exercise routine help in skin cell nourishment, making your skin look young and glowing.

5. Hydration and good sleep
To get the well-hydrated, smooth skin that supermodels are known for, it’s important to keep your body - and your skin - hydrated at all times. This means drinking water, eating fruits, and getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep dries up the skin which leads to fine lines, dark circles, and even eczema.

Looking like a supermodel starts with having healthy, well-hydrated skin. Beautiful skin demands attention, and with the right attention, anyone can get a supermodel complexion that glows from the inside out.

5 Superfoods for your Skin

Your body, and your skin, is the result of what you eat. A diet of simple starches, processed goodies, and too much sugar can cause chemical imbalances in your body, leading to blood sugar spikes, inflammation, and skin collagen breakdown. Eating right guarantees you more than just your ideal weight; eating right has always been linked to healthier, younger-looking skin as well. Here are the top 5 skin super foods, for a smooth and supple complexion that glows naturally.

1. Berries Berries like blueberries, have the highest antioxidant content among all the other fruits and vegetables, making them a skin superfood that really delivers the benefits. With approximately 13,427 antioxidants in just a single cup, it’s no surprise why blueberries are great in fighting premature skin aging.

2. Seafood Seafood like tuna is an excellent source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that combat body inflammation. Oily fish like mackerel, sardines, and trout are excellent choices as well. Wild salmon contains selenium and Vitamin D, while oysters contain zinc, ideal for skin cell repair.

3. Healthy nuts Nuts like almonds and walnuts contain loads of Vitamin E, an anti-oxidant that boosts skin cell renewal. Pecans are known for their fiber content, while sunflower seeds contain magnesium that contributes to improved blood flow to the skin.

4. Green tea Green tea is a good source of antioxidants; and with its caffeine content, it’s a great substitute for your morning coffee. The anti-inflammatory properties of green tea help in stabilizing extra-sensitive skin which is often prone to irritation.

5. Leafy greens Leafy greens like spinach, collard greens, and kale contain loads of skin-friendly fiber and antioxidants like Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Spinach also contains omega-3 fatty acids that nourish the skin, and protects it from dryness and irritation.

By incorporating these super foods into your daily diet, coupled with a good skin care regimen at home, there is every reason for your skin to be healthy, well-nourished, and naturally beautiful.

MiscellaneousFinds4u: Hemloq Citris Scrub - Naturally Perfect for Dry Skin

I love skincare products and with skin that’s nearly 50, I’ve used a lot of products in my time.

I’m always looking for natural products and ones that are never tested on animals nor contain any animal products. Being a vegetarian, this is very important to me.

I recently had the pleasure of trying a product from a skincare line called Hemloq.

I’ve never heard of them before so I checked out their website. I was pleased to find it’s visually appealing, extremely helpful and informative on their products and the use of them, and very pleased to find they offer personalized assistance by telephone so you will be able to shop for just the right products for your skin.

Aimed with the knowledge I gained from their site, I was excited to try out the Citrus Scrub that I received.

Described as a “extra-creamy formula”, it promised a “gentler feeling exfoliation”. Blended with jojoba beans, green tea extracts, and chamomile, it fit my first criteria of being animal-free.

Next, on my list of necessities is scent.
I was pleasantly surprised by the light but definitely citrus smell. Definitely higher-end essential oils were used to scent this as so many citrus facial products end up smelling like cheap dish soap. This was wonderful and refreshing. The scent was an enjoyable part of using the scrub.

Did it Work?
Well, it did provide a light overall scrub, but unfortunately I have oily skin, and it left my face too moisturized. It’s meant for drier skin types and it seems like a perfect match in that case. Even though it wasn’t meant for my skin type, my skin overall felt smoother, and I found it did leave my drier areas very supple.

What’s in it and why?
Jojoba Bean - semi-solid which melts while you scrub
Green Tea Extracts - an anti-oxidant and help reduce irritation
Chamomile - Provide healing, soothing, moisturizing, and toning for dry skin

What’s NOT in it?
Paraben Free, Sulfate Free, Cruelty Free and never any harsh chemicals, artificial colors, or artificial fragrances.

Do I recommend it?
For dry skin absolutely! It’s natural, cruelty-free, and has a list of ingredients that’s not only pronounceable but not full of preservatives and other harsh chemicals.
Enjoy!

Deesse Magazine: Favorite at-home treatments under $30!!!

In these recession-laden times , we have to find ways to be economical - even if that means to skipping weekly visits to your favorite hair dresser / skipping your trip to the spa for your favorite body scrub. The Hemloq Raspberry Fruit Peel comes in a creamy formula that makes it very easy to apply. Once you have it all over you face wait for a slighting heating sensation at which point the mask turns red. I was alarmed the first time this happened thinking my face under the mask was turning red but naaaaa...it was just the fruit peel. I would have loved it if we could actually peel it off when it dried but its not stretchy and peel-able. So I just had to wash it off.The smell is very organic. I keep sniffing like I would sniff to see if something has gone bad, LOL ! Trust me, its just the all natural stuffing. What it does is it keeps my pores happy and dirt free.Did you know Martha Stewart uses a natural gel face mask every morning !! How does she do it ? I'll be glad if I get to shower ! Well for now, I am happy with my all natural weekly face mask routine.

Sister 2 Sister Magazine: January 2009

LA Family Magazine

Hemloq.

Use Hemloq's Raspberry Fruit Peel as a natural alternative to microdermabrasion.
