CARVER COUNTY, MN – Carver County Administrator David Hemze announced today that the Carver County Board of Commissioners adopted new commissioner districts during its meeting Tuesday.

Following the decennial census, governing boards go through the process of redistricting to ensure equal representation.

Hemze noted the board adopted plan 2 as the new commissioner districts for the next 10 years. The commissioners considered a total of 24 different plans that met the statutory requirements for redistricting at the April 24 public hearing and narrowed the list down to 4 that were considered at the May 1 public hearing. The new districts are:

District 1: City of Chanhassen Precincts 4 & 5; and City of Chaska Wards 3 & 4.

District 2: City of Chanhassen Precincts 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B & 3; and City of Victoria Precinct 1.

District 3: City of Chaska Wards 1 & 2; Laketown Township Precinct 2; and City of Victoria Precincts 2 & 3.

District 4: Hollywood Township; City of Mayer; Waconia Township; City of Waconia Wards 1 & 2; Watertown Township; and City of Watertown.

District 5: Benton Township; Camden Township; City of Carver; City of Cologne; Dahlgren Township Precincts 1 & 2; City of Hamburg; Hancock Township; Laketown Township Precinct 1; City of New Germany; City of Norwood Young America; San Francisco Township; and Young America Township.

In addition to approving district boundaries, the county board was required to determine which districts will have two-year terms and which districts will have four-year terms in the coming election cycle. Based on population shifts, all five commissioner districts will be on the ballot in 2012. The board determined that Districts 1, 3 and 5 will have four-year terms and Districts 2 and 4 will have two-year terms in the coming election cycle.

Carver County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the home around 10:46 a.m. Wednesday on the 900 block of Santa Vera Drive in Chanhassen on a report of a first-degree burglary and assault.

When they arrived, they found the suspect must have forced his way into the home through the front door, which was locked at the time.

The woman inside the residence said she was able to fight off the burglar and escape. The man then fled the scene.

According to the CBS report, the woman said she wants to warn other women to watch their back — always be on guard and know, there are dangerous people out there.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 25 years old, about 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-2 with a stocky build, brown hair and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and khaki-colored cargo pants.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is actively investigating the incident.

But, suddenly, the seemingly simple task becomes a death trap, as the grain collapses under his weight.

In an instant, the farmer is trapped in the flowing kernels. Within 10 seconds, he is completely submerged, unable to breathe.

The 24 members of the New Germany Fire Department hope this scenario will never happen to anyone in their area, but if it does, they’ll know what to do.

The department completed an 8-hour grain bin rescue course through South Central College April 16 and 17, which included an evening of hands-on instruction.

Look for the full story in the Monday, April 23 Herald Journal.
