According to Linda Hutchison, Downtown Development Coordinator for the City of Locust Grove and the event organizer, Beach’s appearance is part of the annual program, which features live music in the city’s downtown area on the 2nd and 4th Friday’s each month. This offers an opportunity for local business owners as it attracts more people to the downtown area.

As stated by Hutchison in the Henry Daily Herald, “Last year, at our largest gathering, we had about 85 people,” she said. “They like the music, but also getting out and visiting with their friends. Some of them bring their own picnic dinner.”

Residents at Heron Bay Golf & Country Club are able to enjoy a free event such as this close to home as well as events within the master-planned community. “We love the small-town atmosphere in Henry and Spalding Counties, especially the city squares in Locust Grove and McDonough – both of which are “small town USA.”  We regularly attend events and festivals that are held at these locations,” said Ted and Tracyee Scott residents in The Links at Heron Bay.

Established in 2004 as a way to bring the community together while drawing awareness of and raising funds for the Hands of Hope Clinic, the Goblin Gallop has grown in size each year, and has been hosted by the master-planned community, Heron Bay Golf and Country Club, since 2005. Last year’s Goblin Gallop attracted more than 300 participants and raised more than $25,000 for the clinic, which provides medical and dental services to uninsured residents of Henry County.

The Goblin Gallop is an event for every age group with three different races: 5K Run, 1 Mile Run/Walk and the “Tot Trot,” for kids aged five and under. Race costs are as follows: 5K Run – $15, Pre-registration, $20 at the door; 1 Mile Run/Walk – $10 Pre-registration, $15 at the door and “Tot Trot” ages 5 and under, 60 yards – no charge. During the Goblin Gallop, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costumes and prizes will be awarded to the most creative costumes.
