I guess since the schools are having early dismissals in anticipation of the weather, I suppose we should follow suit and play it safe as well. So we will not be getting together tonight for our Den meeting.

Den Meeting Time

In order to coincide with our Wolf Den, I am changing our meeting time to 6:30. For this week it will be fairly simply in that we will just be getting familiar with each other again and going over some ideas and thoughts for the upcoming months. If you are able to make it early, I will try to be there a few minutes early so we might be able to get started sooner as we will have a lot to cover this year. I look forward to seeing everyone and am confident we will have another successful scouting year.

Den Field Trip

If anyone is interested, the Tiger Den has invited us to join them on a field trip to the state police barracks on April 7th, at 5:00 pm. I will send out information as I receive it.

Den Meeting Canceled, October 28

With all of the late night activities this week, we are going to cancel our regularly scheduled Den meeting for October 28th.

Please continue to review the requirements for Achievement 1 and/or 2 at home as well as 11b, 11e, and 11g and let me know at a Den meeting when they are completed.

For our new boys, be sure to continue reviewing the requirements for obtaining your Bobcat badge.

Advancements

Parents,

Can you please send me any advancements you are aware of which your son has earned or has not yet recieved.

At this point, these will most likely be belt loops and/or pins which your son may have met the requirements for over the summer or at the summer day camp this year.

Sept. 30 Den Meeting

Just wanted to let anyone who was unable to make it to our last Den meeting what we did so you can complete the activities at home with your son. We completed all of the parts for Achievement 4, Tall Tales. Please get with me at our next Den meeting so I can sign off in your son's book.

If any parent would like to host a particular achievement, please let me know. Take a look through the Bear Handbook to see if there is a particular activity or portion of an activity that you would like to take the lead on and present to the boys. I have one family who has volunteered to host Achievement 9, What's Cooking. If there are any others who would be willing to do this with an activity, please get with me to coordinate the achievement and desired date and location.

I am in the process of updating our Den calendar with the particular achievements I plan do do on particular dates. That way if anyone is unable to attend a meeting, you can complete the achievement at home.

On that note, can everyone please complete achievement 1 and/or 2 at home and let me know when you do this. There is no rush at this time to complete but it would be easier to do these at home.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for all your help and encouragement. We really couldn't make all of this happen without the great parents we have.

First Den Meeting

Just a reminder in case you haven't checked the Den calendar, we are having our first Den meeting on September 16th at 6:30 in the church basement.

Den Meeting Change

We will be meeting at the Hershey fire station on West Caracas Avenue for a tour at 6:00 PM. It will last about an hour. If we can all be there around 5:50 then we can be sure to start on time. See you then.

February 25th Den Meeting

We will be visiting the Life Lion hanger for our Den meeting this week. They would like to start the tour promptly at 5:45. I would ask then that we meet in the parking lot at the hanger no later than 5:40. I plan to get there at 5:30 so you can look for me. In case you do not know where the hanger is, it is located along Bullfrog Valley Road on the east side of the medical center campus.

Winter Camp

Winter Camp is this Friday - looks like the weather will be cold but clear so remember to bring appropriate clothes for being outside. All information (directions, bunk assignments.....) are posted to the pack home page. Dinner on Friday night is on your own, and remember to bring your class A uniform for Sat night, a good flashlight, and a lawn chair for sitting around the camp fire. In an effort to keep down our trash we have asked campers to bring a travel mug with them for drinking so that we are not throwing out so many paper and foam cups. Lastly, I always recomend that the boys carry a whistle while they are in the woods - we use a buddy system all the time, but if a boy does get separated it is easier to blow a whistle than call out for help. Weather and snow permitting we Mr Richards tells me there might be time for some sleding - so if you want you can bring a sled.

One of the craft projects we will be workingon for winter camp is a paper banner (3' x 5") that the boys will decorate for display at the Blue and Gold banquet. Each banner will have vertical letters that correspond to their den (Ex. W O L F). The boys will need to think of scout related words to go with each letter. We will also decorate the banners with pictures, drawings, etc. We will provide the construction paper, glue, markers, crayons, etc. We will need approximately 6-10 scout related photos for the poster (we need 6-10 TOTAL per den - not per scout). These will be used on the banner. These photos can be from this year or previous years. If everyone can try to find 2 to 4 pictures of Den activites we will have a great selection - just print them on regular paper and bring them along. If you do not have a color printer e-mail them to me and I will print them and bring them along.

Blue and Gold

The Blue and gold banquet is Feb 20th at 6pm at the St Joan of Arc School. It is a fun night of food and enterainment o celebrate the birthday of scouting and "graduate" our Weblos 2's to Boy Scouts. More information is posted to the Pack website. Sign up by Feb4!

Reminders

1) Remember Den meeting this Wed at 7pm at the church - we will be studying knots - I will bring the rope, but if each boy can bring a Tie we will also be learning how to tie a tie.

2) LAST CALL FOR WINTER CAMP - if you want to go but have not signed up call Betsy Han ASAP to reserve a slot

3) Pine Wood derby cars need to be weighed in on Sat between 9am and 11am and our first Pine Wood derby races are tues next week at 630 at the church

4) Volunteers - your pack needs adult volunteers we have several leaders who's sons are moving on to Boy Scouts and we need your help - a full list of open positions wil be posted at the derby races.

5) We need a parent volunteer from our Den to help with the Blue and Gold banquet Feb 20th

WINTER CAMP

Just a reminder that winter camp is right around the corner - the application form has been posted to the web site and sign up is due by Dec 31st. For those of you who have not been to a winter camp it is a great experience - "camping" is in cabins with bathrooms and showers (with hot water) and there is plenty of food. Most importantly the boys have a great time. If you can't stay overnight consider coming up for the day on Sat.

Also - we have completed all the group requirements for our Wolf badges and I would like to have them presented to the boys at Winter Camp (anyone who does not make camp will get heir badge the following month) .

Den meeting time and location change

For this weeks Den meeting on October 22nd, we will be meeting at the pavillion at Gelder Park at 6:00 P.M. to perform our park cleanup duties which will go toward achievement #7, Your Living World. The Silvis family has volunteered to also help with this activity by talking a little bit about recycling and saving energy.

Once we do our cleanup we talk a little bit about achievement #8, Cooking and Eating. This achievement is one which we will introduce at the meeting but will mostly need to be completed at home.

I will attempt to call everyone as well to make sure you've gotten this message.

Den Meeting Oct 8th

Reminder that this Wed’s Den meeting will be at 7pm. We will be meeting in the main hall in the basement (where we hold the pine wood derby races).

We are going to start working on Achievement #5 TOOLS FOR FIXING AND BUILDING and will finish this off at a later date with a “go see it“ to a hardware store for a kids building project .

This week we will also be working on Achievement # 6 Start a Collection, so if you have a collection that you would like to share with the Den please bring it in. For boys who do not have collections we will be talking about starting a collection to show the Den (or family).

Reminder - First Den Meeting Wed 9/10

Just a reminder that our first Den meeting will be this Wed 9/10 at the Church at 630pm

With all the activites out boys are participating in, a few parents have asked about moving moving the Den meetings to 7pm to allow some time for dinner or to travel from one activity to the next. This Den meeting (9/10) will stay at 6:30, but I'll be moving all the others to 7pm.

Wolf Calendar is Out

After talking with a few of our familes there was a preference for Wed nights so I built this year's schedule around Wed evening Den meetings - I know I did not get a chance to talk to everyone, and I want all or boys to have a chance to participate, so if Weds are a real problem for anyone I am more than happy to alternate Wed and Thur Den meetings - just let me know.

I will be reviewing the Wolf book over the next week and putting together a schedule of items we have to cover for advancement. I am hoping that we can run things like we did last year with parents volunteering to lead at least one meeting. Lastly while all our meetings are scheduled for the church, I am hoping to set up a number of field trips and I welcome any and all suggestions on places to go and things to do.

First Event For The New Year

Hey Wolves - that right we are wolves now. We wanted to fit in one last fun event before the school year starts - Thanks to Mr McNaughton we have a tour of Harrisburg Internation Airport set up for 3pm on Wed August 2oth! We will all meet at the information desk at 3pm. Please give me a call or send me an e-mail to let me know if you can make it so I have a head count.

Pack Picnic

Please look at the Pack site for details on the picnic - the Tigers have been asked to have each family bring one vegie/pasta/or poatato dish (potato salad, mac and cheese, slaw.....) (enough to serve about 10 people). Also bring lawn chairs. It is time to make memories at our annual family picnic. You will need to rsvp to your den leader the number attending from your family by Wednesday, May 28. Also, please remember to bring a chair for the campfire and a drinking cup for the day. (We want to cut down on waste and go green!)

Den Meeting Thurs 5/8

This Thurs our Den Meeting will be a Go See It to the Hershey Medical Center Simulation Lab.
We will meet at 6pm in the parking lot of the Life Lion Hanger - right at the Bull Frog Valley Road entrance to the hospital. After the lab, weather permitting, we will go out to the playground behind the hospital for a snack and some time to play. Family / siblings are welcome. Call or e-mail me if you have any questions.
