How to Enter:

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time ("ET") on December 29, 2011 until 5:00 p.m. ET on February 17, 2012 (the "Sweepstakes Period"), you may enter the Home & Garden Television ("HGTV") 2012 HGTV Dream Home Giveaway℠ sweepstakes (the "Sweepstakes") in any of the following ways:

(i) online by visiting the HGTV website (www.hgtv.com) (the "HGTV Website") and completing the online entry form (limit one (1) online entry on the HGTV Website, per valid email address, per eligible person per day);

(ii) online by visiting the HGTV Front Door website (www.frontdoor.com) (the "HGTV Front Door Website") and completing the online entry form (limit one (1) online entry on the HGTV Front Door Website, per valid email address, per eligible person per day); or

(iii) hand printing your name, complete address, phone number (area code included) and date of birth either on a postcard or on a separate piece of paper no larger than 8½ x 11 inches, and mailing the postcard or paper in an envelope with proper postage affixed to: HGTV Dream Home Giveaway, PO Box 52656, Knoxville, TN 37950 (the "Mail-In Address"). Entrants using U.S. mail may enter as often as they wish. Mail-in entries must be postmarked by February 17, 2012 and received by February 24, 2012. Limit one (1) entry per stamped outer envelope. Mechanically reproduced or hand-stamped entries or mailing labels or entries generated by script, macro or other automated means and entries by any means which subvert the entry process will not be accepted. Incorrect, illegible, and incomplete entries are void.

All eligible entries will be entered in the Grand Prize Drawing. When you enter at the HGTV Website or the HGTV Front Door Website (collectively with the HGTV Website, the "Websites"), you may be asked to consent to receive promotional e-mails and reminders for upcoming Scripps Networks promotions and information about Main Sponsor, and the Participating Product Sponsors identified below. When you enter the Sweepstakes, you can also opt-in to receive advertising and promotional offers. You can opt-out of receiving offers at any time and opting-in does not impact your chances of winning. Eligibility:

This Sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the U.S. and its territories, possessions and commonwealths who are 21 years of age or older as of December 30, 2011, except employees and members of their households, whether or not related, and immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, children and each of their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) of Main Sponsor and General Motors LLC, Lumber Liquidators, Inc., The Procter & Gamble Distributing LLC, The Sherwin-Williams Company, BISSELL® Homecare, Inc., Delta Faucet Company, Kraft Foods, Inc., Progressive Casualty Insurance Company, Ethan Allen Global, Inc., Owens Corning Sales, LLC, Rinnai America Corporation, Pella Corporation, PetSmart, Inc., Wellborn Cabinet, Inc., and all other participating product sponsors (collectively, the "Participating Product Sponsors"), Ritway, Inc., Wentworth Development, LLC, Rimrock Construction, LLC, and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and their advertising and promotion agencies and all local sponsors are not eligible to enter or win the prize. Main Sponsor reserves the right to conduct a background check on any potential Grand Prize Winner (as defined below) and reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any person based on such background check if Main Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that awarding the prize to such potential Grand Prize Winner might reflect negatively on Main Sponsor or any of the Participating Product Sponsors. By entering, all participants and/or entrants release the Released Parties from and against all claims and damages arising in connection with each entrant's participation and/or entry in the Sweepstakes and/or his/her receipt or use of the prize (including any injury or harm resulting from the use of the vehicle or any travel or activity related thereto) awarded in this Sweepstakes. Any and all warranties and guarantees are subject to the respective manufacturer's terms. This Sweepstakes is governed by U.S. law and is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void outside the U.S. and where prohibited by law.

How the Grand Prize Winner will be Determined:

Grand Prize Drawing:

The potential winner of the Grand Prize (as defined below) (the "Grand Prize Winner") will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received during the entire Sweepstakes Period on or about March 1, 2012 by Ritway, Inc., an independent judging organization ("Sweepstakes Administrator"). The odds of winning the Grand Prize depends upon on the number of eligible entries received for the entire Sweepstakes Period.

Grand Prize Winner Notification:

Main Sponsor anticipates that the potential Grand Prize Winner will be contacted in person on or about March 12, 2012 (subject to change) in the form of a "ambush style" visit by Main Sponsor representatives and such potential Grand Prize Winner may be filmed during such visit by Main Sponsor. Main Sponsor also reserves the right to randomly select an unspecified number of potential finalists for the Grand Prize. Potential Grand Prize Winner will be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility, a Non-Disclosure Agreement, and release of liability and publicity (where permitted by law), and return same, fully-executed, within five (5) days of date of issuance of prize notification. Main Sponsor may require the potential Grand Prize Winner to travel with a guest at Main Sponsor's expense to the 2012 HGTV Dream Home for promotional purposes on a date to be determined by Main Sponsor from April 12 - April 15, 2012 (exact dates subject to change). If Main Sponsor is unable to contact the potential Grand Prize Winner within five (5) days of date of the initial attempt, if the potential Grand Prize Winner fails to return all requested forms fully-executed by the specified date, or if the potential Grand Prize Winner fails to comply with these Official Rules, including traveling on the dates and times required by Main Sponsor, his/her place as a Grand Prize Winner will be forfeited at Main Sponsor's discretion and an alternate Grand Prize Winner may be selected, at Main Sponsor's sole discretion. Main Sponsor reserves the right to notify the potential Grand Prize Winner by overnight courier and/or telephone.

Main Sponsor and Sweepstakes Administrator's decisions with respect to the Grand Prize Winner and other matters pertaining to the Sweepstakes shall be final and binding and are subject to change. By entering into the Sweepstakes, each entrant consents to the use by Sweepstakes Entities and their designees of his/her name, photograph (including photographs of his/her pet(s) submitted to Main Sponsor, if applicable), likeness, biography, voice, performance and/or video (including any footage compiled when the potential winner of the Grand Prize is contacted) for advertising and promotional purposes including "ambush style" on-air camera appearances to announce the potential Grand Prize Winner on a date to be determined by Main Sponsor in or around March 17, 2012 (or as otherwise set forth above) in any and all media, including online announcements now or hereafter known, worldwide and without limitation and without additional compensation, notification or permission, except where prohibited by law. In addition, participants in any of Main Sponsor's on-air presentations will be required to sign any agreements and releases designed by Main Sponsor with respect to their services and performances. Main Sponsor and its designees may exploit, edit, modify, and distribute any footage compiled during the period when the potential Grand Prize Winner is contacted, including, without limitation, the names and likenesses of any persons or locations embodied therein, in any and all media now known or not currently known, throughout the world in perpetuity without additional compensation, permission or notification to any potential Grand Prize Winner or any third party.

Entry materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. If, in Main Sponsor's opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Sweepstakes, or if computer virus, bugs, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical difficulties or failures compromise or corrupt or affect the administration, integrity, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Sweepstakes, the Main Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and void any entries submitted fraudulently, to modify or suspend the Sweepstakes, or to terminate the Sweepstakes and conduct a random drawing to award the prize using all eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the termination date. Should the Sweepstakes be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on the HGTV Website. Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Sweepstakes is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Main Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of the potential Grand Prize Winner based on an e-mail address, the winning entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at time of entry and such individual will be required to comply with these Official Rules. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.

Grand Prize:

One (1) Grand Prize Winner shall win the Grand Prize consisting of: the home in Midway, Utah (the "HGTV Dream Home") that is featured in the "HGTV Dream Home 2012" special, plus home furnishings, merchandise, an automobile, and $500,000 in cash (awarded in the form of a check or a wire transfer) (collectively, the "Grand Prize"). The HGTV Dream Home is valued at approximately $1,500,000 as of November 2011 (includes structure, lot, landscaping, home furnishings, merchandise, artwork, and accessories). All decisions related to the HGTV Dream Home shall be at Main Sponsor's sole discretion. Actual value of HGTV Dream Home depends on market fluctuations. The automobile is a 2012 GMC Terrain SLT2 (Approximate retail value ("ARV"): $38,755). In lieu of taking title to the HGTV Dream Home (and the contents of the HGTV Dream Home), Grand Prize Winner will have the option of receiving $800,000 in cash in addition to the $500,000 cash prize and automobile mentioned above for a total ARV of $1,338,755. All home furnishings, merchandise, and the automobile will be selected by HGTV at its sole discretion. All home furnishings and merchandise will be delivered to the HGTV Dream Home in Midway, Utah. The HGTV Dream Home shall be conveyed to the Grand Prize Winner without representations or warranties, express or implied, other than those, if any, provided by the contractor/developer ("Developer") from whom Main Sponsor has agreed to acquire the HGTV Dream Home, and other than any applicable manufacturers' warranties. Real estate transfer taxes, deed recording charges and closing costs, if not the obligation of the Developer pursuant to an agreement with Main Sponsor (the "Home Contract") to acquire the home, shall be the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner, as will all current and future real estate taxes and all other taxes, costs, fees, and expenses related to the maintenance of the house commencing as of the date the Grand Prize Winner accepts the Grand Prize. Title insurance and homeowner's hazard and liability insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner. The Released Parties shall not be responsible for construction delays and condition of title to home shall otherwise be as set forth in the Home Contract. For the automobile, the Grand Prize Winner is solely responsible for the taxes, registration, insurance (proof of which must be shown prior to the Grand Prize Winner taking possession of vehicle), license, pickup costs at the automobile dealership designated by General Motors LLC and any other option not included on the stated model. Regarding the prize vehicle, GMC Division, General Motors LLC makes no warranty other than that expressed in its new vehicle limited warranty, a printed copy of which shall be furnished with the prize vehicle. Total ARV of Grand Prize is $2,038,755 if Grand Prize Winner takes title to the HGTV Dream Home or $1,338,755 if Grand Prize selects the cash option in lieu of taking title to the HGTV Dream Home.

General Prize Conditions:

All costs, taxes, fees, and expenses associated with the prize or the acceptance and use of any element of the prize not specifically addressed above are the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner. All federal, state, income, and local taxes on prizes are Grand Prize Winner's responsibility. Grand Prize Winner will be issued a 1099 tax form for the ARV of the Grand Prize. The specifics of all aforementioned elements of the prize(s) in the Sweepstakes shall be solely determined by Main Sponsor. Some restrictions may apply. Prize(s) cannot be transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash except at Main Sponsor's sole discretion. Main Sponsor reserves the right to substitute the prize, or portion(s) thereof, with a prize of comparable or greater value, at its sole discretion.

Winner's List:

Beginning on or about March 19, 2012 you may obtain the name of the Grand Prize Winner either by going to the HGTV Website (www.hgtv.com) or mailing a self-addressed stamped envelope to: HGTV Dream Home Winner's List, PO Box 52822, Knoxville, TN 37950. Requests received after May 19, 2012 will not be honored.

Adirondack Architecture refers to the architectural style generally associated with the Great Camps within the Adirondack Mountains area in New York. The builders of these camps used native building materials and sited their buildings within an irregular wooded landscape. These camps were built to provide a primitive, rustic appearance. Elements such as whole, split, or peeled logs, bark, roots, and burls, along with native granite fieldstone, were used to build interior and exterior components. Massive fireplaces and chimneys built of cut stone are also common within the Great Camp architecture. The use of native building materials was not only for promoting a natural appearance, but also to avoid the expense of transporting conventional building materials into a remote location.

The style drew upon Swiss chalet architecture, which had been introduced to America by Andrew Jackson Downing around 1850. The Adirondacks building were recognized for their rugged finish and outstanding craftsmanship especially by the wealthy natives. The Adirondacks style of architecture can be specialized into custom homes, rugged roofing, log cabins, boat houses, rustic furnishing, rustic kitchen, birch and cedar furniture, log and twig works.

This style of architecture is found most prominently in and around the area of Adirondack Park, the largest state park in the United States. With 6.1 million acres (25,000 km²), it is roughly the size of the entire state of Massachusetts. 42% of the land is public, with the remaining amount of land consisting of several villages and hamlets.

Here are some interesting factoids about Stowe, Vermont, site of the 2011 HGTV Dream Home (more to folllow).

Stowe, Vermont is 168 miles NW of Boston, Massachusetts. The town contains a population of approximately 4,339.

In Stowe, about 56% of adults are married.

Unlike most towns, Stowe has proportionately more males than females.

In 2000, Stowe had a median family income of $64,700. The typical family in Stowe is better off than most in Vermont. Interestingly, lots of people in the town have Bachelor's degrees (or better). If you never see your neighbor it may be because he or she works from home rather than driving to the office. That's not unusual in Stowe. In the town, there is a large number of singles who make a good living

Political donors in Stowe favored George W. Bush in the 2004 Presidential race, contributing $14,950. Among political parties, the Democratic party was tops in raising money in the town.

Stowe has, of course, a mix of various types of housing. Recently 68% of the livable housing units were owner-occupied. The town sports a large amount of seasonal housing, typically for vacation or part-time use. Homes in Stowe are newer than those found in most places. The town, among other things, is known as a good place for singles and couples to rent apartments. Taxes on residences are higher here than most places in Vermont, which may reflect a commitment to education in the town.

In Stowe, 82% of commuters drive to work. Be careful driving around the town -- lots of residents enjoy bicycling and walking there.

About Brendan O'Reilly

Brendan O’Reilly, a native of Flourtown, Penn., came to Vermont in 1978 to attend Burke Mountain Academy and train to be a ski racer. After graduating from UVM, where he skied and studied forest and wildlife biology, Brendan traveled around North America, working as a naturalist along the coast of Maine, planting trees in northern Ontario and building homes in Colorado, Alaska and Hawaii. He also spent 18 months touring the globe. Brendan returned to Vermont in 1991 and in 1992 incorporated Gristmill Builders in Stowe. Brendan and his wife live in Stowe, and he enjoys biking, participating in marathons and triathlons, gardening and, of course, skiing.

HGTV Green Home Giveaway Selects Denver, Colorado for 2011

HGTV has announced the location of the fourth HGTV Green Home: Denver, Colorado's sustainable community of Stapleton. Located on the site of Denver’s former airport, Stapleton is known as one of the largest urban redevelopments in the U.S.

“In Stapleton, we’ve worked to create a community that is founded on sustainability,” said Denise Gammon, Senior Vice President of Development for Forest City Stapleton, the master developer of the Stapleton Community. “We’ll be delighted to welcome the lucky winner of the Green Home Giveaway to the neighborhood.”

HGTV will present the 2,400-square-foot, custom-built green home as part of the HGTV Green Home grand prize package which will be given away next spring.
