i know i haven't written anything here for a while, but i think i had realized that most people didn't really read this anyway, and the content was not really fulfilling for me. so i came up with this other idea and branched off there.

i recommend reading the blurbs, and then any posts tagged "definition" if you dive in and wonder "what the hell is this crap?"

i think i'll continue to do the unit, 24, sytycd, and tdf commentary, but i have something else that can be a ~creative outlet that's also technical and not my work.

he had this smirk in one of the scenes of the latest episode (the omg chlorine gas one) when it was decided that they were going to rock the house. he might not be a hector, and "whiplash" is a little more typical of a callsign vs. hammerhead or cool breeze.

rachel also was wondering about him jumping on that grenade. i think he'll be good for the show.

can you reuse the same theme too much?

so this season of 24 has all been about one theme: "do the ends justify the means, and being held accountable for the choice you make."

how many times do i need to be hit over the head with it before it gets old? not sure. although i really enjoy turmoil that agent walker is going through. as well as making snide remarks about how she and jack are going to get together by the end of the season.

technology win of the week: not sure if there was a clear cut winner, however i really need to find a way to connect a generic usb cable from my phone to a random workstation to immediately gain access to exactly the information i want.

how do you get that job?

i really really enjoyed the latest episdoe of 24. it seemed to include everything: torture, explosions, agent pierce being awesome, bill getting pistol whipped _and_ choked out, and amazing technology.

speaking of, who knew that the internal security network and gps locator system in the white house is on an open wifi network? lol.

does anyone else feel a little tingle when allstate commercials are slated for the breaks during 24?

i'm really looking forward to seeing how jack and renee get out of a squad full of police officers. i wonder if the next two episodes are tony highlights, with kiefer just repeating to himself, "i ain't nobody's b--" in the corner of his jail cell. all in all i am enjoying the seventh season. something about how they are still breaking all sorts of laws to get the job done, but at least all of the characters are trying to address this issue. agent walker w/the blood on her face and fingers in the mirror was great. makes me wonder what is going to be _too far_?

highlights from this episode: agent pierce showing up. he's one of my favorite characters. i think that he brings a lot of history and awesomeness. i think he ranks like #5 in most episodes and still alive.

technology win of the episode: the psychadelic hacker usb stick. not only do you attach to some random xsession but also seemingly gives them escalated privs over their processes to inject stuff/DoS them. i just bought some 4gb sticks at best buy today, i'll let you know when i get it all worked out.

sorry for the time off everyone that reads. (i know no one reads this, it's okay.)

i just had to say, i made one of the best calls today. when i first saw the trailers for this movie, i thought to myself, "it's quigon jin! killing french people! sweet!" but then after further investigation (thanks imdb. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/) this movie had even more going for it: written by luc besson, who also wrote all of the transporter movies, directed by pierre morel, who did the jason statham + jet li flick, WAR and the transporter as well.

suffice it to say, this is _the_ action movie of right now. if you want to have a good time, go see this movie. "and apologize to your wife for me for shooting her."

you'd think that by missing the call on joshua i'd just quit the whole blogging thing, but no. it has just been _that_ busy that i don't have the spare cycles to rant for all of my adoring fans (LOL.)

here's a quick attempt to get everything back up to speed. what have we been up to?

aron visited for a week, so we went travelling and touristing and things like that
we had another dinner party, i made merri's famous 2-4-2-4-1 brownies
i <3 the puma outlet
work is really fun. i like end-to-end demos. (can i say that?)
hancock was a lot of fun, and the bad action movie (BAM!) club is going to see tropic thunder soon. i'll let you know what we think of it.
we got the official wedding photos and had to sort through them, as well as decide what we want in our album/stuff like that.
we went to portland, me. trying to determine which portland wins.

i have a feeling courtney doesn't have a shot. and when down to it, it's really hard to choose between joshua, katee and twitch.

joshua and twitch are so similar: blah blah blah they don't have training blah blah blah. but they are both great hip-hop dancers, they have the charisma and they do the other dances really well. something about joshua's strength and the type of choreographing that he can take is very different from twitches. it seems like he's the power guy to twitches finesse. sort of like your warrick dunn/mike alstott combo. it's really hard to pick one of these guys over the other, especially after that russian dance last night.

katee, not sure. everyone just goes OMG KATEE whenever she does anything. i mean she's great, and i love her dances, and all, but i guess i already ranted about the whole katee/joshua domestique thing. she's definitely the safe pick right now.

i kind of want to go out on a limb and go vote for twitch. as amazing as joshua and katee have been, i think something about the musicality and style that twitch brings i really like. having logo'd clothing and doing a solo with blinged teeth and gold rims (and then getting deeley to put on the teeth) really wins it for me.

twitch, then josh and katee tied for second (as always, together, although what's up with the chemistry between twitch and katee?)

friendly tips about lightning and hiking

Rachel and I went hiking on Sunday at Mt Monadnock. It was a good time, there are some pictures around and it had some great views. All in all a good time. I'd recommend it, but that's not the reason for this post.

One of the qualities of the hike that made it more memorable were the numerous storms that went past us. The weather was so random, from sunny and blueberry picking (as you can see in the pictures,) to thunder, lighting.

So here is another good read on lightning safety.

hosted a dinner party last night. it was great. way to combat adversity, dinner party. get this recipe for success:

rainy day (so people can get scared away from coming)
people invited being doctors and being oncall (at hospital all night != coming, lots of conversation being about sick diseases and such)
no food assignments (we had pulau, addictive green beans and potato salad as a meal)
lots of wine.
german chocolate cake and plum/apricot crisp for dessert.
settler's of catan as an afterwards

given all of this, it turned out great. looking forward to the next one. it was great to finally have people over and social at the house, doctors being social is a rare thing and so i made it a point to take advantage of it as much as possible. the food turned out to also be a huge hit. we also got the opportunity to teach people about settler's and get them excited about that too.

the only downside was that we didn't take any pictures. although i guess if that's our only complaint, we're doing alright.

now going hiking somewhere in south new hampshire. fun!

wow: a cross-interest post.

through my times following the tour and figuring out the whole mindset of cycling, i learned the term "domestique." the consummate domestique is georgie hincapie. lance claims that he would never have won the tour if it had not been for him.

joshua is the ultimate domestique for katee. if she wins, it will definitely be well earned, she has captured a lot of support, but i can't help but wonder what she would be like w/o joshua. don't get me wrong, he's doing really well. i just feel that he brings a very good complement to most female dancers that makes the pair succesful.

i wonder how OMGAMAZING katee would be seen if she was paired up with thayne or someone else. she could have turned out just like kherrington or any of your other really talented contemporary dancers. joshua brought that strength that none of the other dude could and that is what made that pair so great and so different. never before in the competition (i've been watching this show for a while,) has there been a dancer that was built so well for pairs dancing.

great job joshua. i won't take anything away from you, you are rockin' the house, but anyone you partner with will take it down.

as for predictions: last week i was _sure_ that mark was going to go. now i'm not as confident. but it's hard to see twitch leave (but then again who predicted mark > will?) as for the girls, i think that either courtney or chelsie could leave. they both had a good performance and a bad performance. while chelsie seems to wow everyone when she ballrooms, courtney's personality is really starting to grow (too little too late?) we'll see.

it's still early, but you can't help but get excited.

is anyone else getting cubs fever? i find myself watching highlights every night. if only boston wasn't so obsessed with their redsox, i'd be able to see a game. (i am going to the sox vs a's game on friday though. lol.)

just had the craziest thing happen at lunch today: we found a gyros place in copley square, which was really cool, but they served it w/fries+ketchup _in_ the gyros. it was pretty good, but in all my life, i have never seen that before. am i the only one?

finally, the house is complete.

the much anticipated dining table arrived this morning, along with some chairs. we used the discovery of an asian grocery store in porter square and the rainy weather as an excuse to make some sushi and have our first meal at the table.

i think it went well. what do you think?

and when you thought it couldn't get any worse.
i was having so much fun watching the tdf. i loved watching phil liggett on versus every day, i had a fantasy cycling team too. i rooted for christian vandevelde and garmin chipotle, wondered if big georgie would finally win one for himself.
i knew that there were problems before the tour, team astana not being allowed to compete, and then the spanish guy early on. but ricco? srsly? everyone in the cycling community must be pissed as hell. broadcasters were lauding the so called "cobra" for winning his two stages so impressively.
if he's guilty or not, man. this sucks. makes you wonder if they had a doping tour de france and a non-doping tour... sort of like having 5k and 10k races. that is a potential way to resolve this arms race.

companies and teams work to find drugs that help you that aren't on the list yet.
racing officials work to keep teams and racers clean.
why not a) allow doping and b) make it another classification. sort of how you have the white "best rider under 25" jersey, have a brown "poop" jersey for the rider whose carreer is most like poop.

movie blitz

one good thing about the east coast: your midnight releases are before the west coast's midnight releases.

i'm totally going to be that guy to spoil "the dark knight" for everyone in seattle. (90 mins into the movie, snape kills dumbledore.)

going to see the movie at the Somerville Theatre, the best part of this place is that they serve beer and ice cream on the cheap and encourage you to bring them into the movie.

i was browsing movie times and saw something even more "whaaat?!?"

i noticed this starting monday or tuesday this week: someone from venezuela was boasting that they were "three days early, first in line."

when i got off the train at copley, i noticed lines all over the place. tango told me a similar line over at the apple store. is this really something that huge?

i guess i'm under contract w/tmobile and have used that as an excuse not to get excited. ask me about this again in march.

either way, who left for work early and camped out in line for a phone?
