Manpower is one of those smorgasbord movies that lays everything out on the table and allows the audience to pick and choose the morsels they like best. You want action? It's there. Romance? There's a lopsided love triangle. There's also infantile slapstick comedy galore, plenty of male bonding and brawling, some illicit activity thrown in for good measure, and even a musical number. Do all those elements meld together into a cohesive whole? Not quite.
Director Raoul Walsh tries his best to make sense of all the nonsense, and somehow manages to churn out a surprisingly entertaining motion picture, but he's…

Where to start with Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie? Unlike just about everyone else on this planet, it seems, I had never heard of Nirvanna the Band the Show, the web series (and later television series) upon which the movie is based. The web series, TV show, and movie all follow the comedic misadventures of musicians Matt and Jay (Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol playing fictionalized versions of themselves). When we first drop in on the story, it’s 2008, and Matt, the self-appointed leader of the duo, proposes a plan to secure a high-profile gig for the two.…

I’ve long held that the only truly “bad” movies are those that fail to deliver any kind of entertainment value at all. Whether you’re laughing with it or at it, if you’re enjoying your precious time, the film is redeemable. Stretching that limit, though, is William Beaudine’s Billy the Kid vs Dracula, starring Chuck Courtney and John Carradine as our headlining hero and villain.

That actress was the inimitable Bette Davis, and although the two don't generate the kind of combustible chemistry Tracy would one day share with Hepburn, they make a striking team,…

Sadly, 1924's top box office star, who should be recognized and revered for her stellar, two-decade film career, is probably better known today as both the long-standing mistress of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst and model for Charles Foster Kane's talentless concubine in Citizen Kane. Though it's true Hearst shamelessly promoted her career and used his vast influence to ensure her success, Davies really didn't need his help. We’ve all felt like we’re going mad, at some point, and maybe many of us have. Some of us have made it through the other end, but sadly, some of us have not. Our mental health is such a fragile, tenuous thing—we can do everything right, and due to forces beyond our control, we can lose our grasp on reality.
But what is it about stories about women being driven mad that people love so much? Maybe it’s because of the forces that drive women to insanity. In stories…

Making its debut on Cartoon Network in 2014, Over the Garden Wall has since created a cult following for its gorgeous animation style, cozy autumnal feel, irreverent characters, and incredible soundtrack. The most important aspect of this show, which gives it legs and timeless longevity, is that it is for children yet never panders by shying away from dark themes and images.
The story Over the Garden Wall follows two brothers decked out in ridiculous raiment. There’s the caped, pointy red hat worn by older brother Wirt, voiced…

Over the course of 12 months and 12 - yes, that's right, 12! - films, the 30-year-old actor meteorically rose from a little-known supporting player to the biggest male star on the MGM lot. With his brash toughness, staggering virility, and roguish charm, Gable grabbed attention and mesmerized audiences. It didn't matter if he played a hero or a heavy, Gable sent female hearts aflutter and made envious men want to fill his shoes.
By the time Gable was cast in Possessed, he had already made two pictures with Joan Crawford in 1931…
