I just wouldn’t have believed that I could come to love yellow as part of my wardrobe. It can be a hard color for us pale types but yellow jeans are definitely a safe bet. I have worn these jeans with bold colors and with neutrals (see some more images below) and also have a yellow shirt that I am quite fond of. I’m not on the hunt for the right pair of yellow shoes.

I have been taking advantage of not working full time by attending webinars, seminars (often put on by SCORE – if you’re a small business owner or want to be, you should definitely check them out!), networking and researching. This outfit felt like a power suit without the usually-boring-but-sharp aspects of a typical power suit. I am often the only person at these events with visible tattoos (you know some people are hiding some ink somewhere) so I have no issue letting my creativity and love of colors come through in my wardrobe.

Off to a networking coffee date. Since the weather was fantastic I opted for layered tanks and a light cardigan. I’m so happy to be wearing sandals again too!

I needed a change of scenery so I took my laptop and headed to Barnes and Noble. Slight rant – they used to have comfy chairs spread around that you could hang out in but now they only have tables and chairs in the cafe (which requires you to purchase something to sit there). I can see the “business reasons” for making the change but I’m not happy about it. I was slightly productive but did get lured in by the neighboring DSW. I managed to get out of there without purchasing anything but I did find a shoe (see below) that I am now lusting over (they didn’t have it in my size). Let the hunt begin.

I know this is a lame excuse but since I don’t have a full time job and my shopping budget has been reduced to nothing, I’m finding it more and more difficult to find inspiration in my closet. For a while I was enjoying the thrill of creating new combinations of existing pieces but now it’s seeming more like a chore. Sorry for the boo-hoo story. I’m done.

I guess I’m a bad blogger. Apparently, you’re supposed to throw your blog a birthday party. Oops. So, without further ado…High Heeled Style turned one on March 25, 2013! My style journey has certainly been fun and chuck full of learning experiences. My first post (here) seems a far cry from where I am today. Which is a good thing since wardrobe improvement was one of the main missions of starting this blog.

I’ve been lucky to meet some wonderful fellow style bloggers (here and here), I had the opportunity to interview Stacy London (here), worked with some great sponsors (like eShatki) and bought shoes. Oh, glorious shoes! I learned some HTML, got a tiny bit better a photography and figured out a few new things in Photoshop. I even started a second blog (Living Scattered) and am on my way to starting my own non-style related business. It’s been a heck of a year!

I have yet to figure out an unexpected top to go with this skirt so for now, I’m playing it safe with neutrals. I previously wore it with darker neutrals (here) but this lighter combination is more Spring appropriate.

I bought these Prabal Gurung shoes a couple of weeks ago (here) and their fate has been undecided until now. My practical budget conscious brain could only justify keeping them if I could figure out multiple outfits to wear them with. Over the last couple of weeks, there were several times that I thought, “those shoes would really make this outfit.” I want more patterned shoes in my closet and this trendy neon pair seemed like a good starter pair. After all, this is likely the only way my pale skin will embrace neon colors! When I was 12 it was a whole different story (oh, fingerless lace gloves and giant hair bows).

So, they’re here to stay. I’m excited to have colorful, patterned shoes to play with this summer. I love their classic silhouette and so far, they’ve turned out to be surprisingly comfortable. $20 well spent I’d say!

Oh, colorful pencil skirt how I’ve missed you! Warmer weather unleashes skirts and dresses and sandals and I couldn’t be happier. Since I’m having to stretch my existing wardrobe due to my $0 shopping budget, it’s nice to have access to something other than blazers and pants. Plus, I busted out the purple hair extensions because…well, there’s no reason other than I felt like it. I’ve decided to get additional colors so I can play with them all summer long!
