If your business is interested in acquiring another organization, the pay-off from such a transaction can be tremendous. However, you always have to carefully weigh the risks and prepare for any difficulties that may arise. To make sure your transaction goes smoothly, and helps you increase your profits, read three key components of a successful acquisition.

1. Make strategic goals for how you want your business to grow.

Before you investigate potential businesses to acquire, you need to have first created a long-term strategic plan that outlines your growth goals. Business owners often work the other way around, as they stumble across an attractive deal and then figure out how to incorporate the new business within their current business. While this may work occasionally, this is often a recipe for disaster as the new business may not perfectly align with what’s best for the existing company.

Instead, assess your current revenue stream and decide how you can best grow your business. For example, an e-commerce company may want to increase its consumer base by expanding its product line, and a software company may want to acquire a start-up that develops technology that helps the software run more efficiently. Whatever your business goals, it’s important to look for other businesses to acquire only after you have decided what you need. This allows for a targeted approach to your acquisition.

2. Keep emotion out of the deal.

Even if you don’t think you could ever walk away from the chance to acquire a particular business, never let this show in your negotiations. If you let your emotions get the best of you, you could over-pay for the new business and give into many more demands than are ideal. Instead, keep it strictly objective. Figure out what number is your cut-off point, and write that number down. When you’re sitting in a negotiation and are tempted to offer more than your limit, look at your notes and remember that the deal won’t benefit your business if you pay too much for it.

You can also keep things objective by bringing in a third-party neutral to consult with you. Outside professionals such as lawyers, investment bankers, accountants, and valuation experts may be extremely useful in keeping you on track to making a wise deal.

3. Use specialized software to help you analyze the finances of the deal.

It’s imperative that you look carefully at the budget of the business you would like to acquire. You’ll have to look at its revenue streams, assets, liabilities, future projections, and other company characteristics that may affect the profitability of the acquisition. While you can use a basic program to assess these factors, new technology has been designed specifically for these purposes.

With specialized merger acquisition software, you can more efficiently perform your due diligence and project how the acquisition will help you. Efficiency is key in such a business transaction that has so many working parts. Specialized software allows you to instantly do such things like maximize synergy, identify the best areas for growth, and examine market share.

If you’re ready to grow your company, it often makes a lot of sense to acquire an existing business. To make that transaction successful, you have to develop a strategic plan, keep your emotions out of the deal, and use specialized software to your advantage.

When a furnace is no longer distributing enough heat, there are a few key points to examine before buying a new unit. A few troubleshooting techniques can help you pinpoint the main problem for an immediate fix or easier guidance with a furnace repair technician.

Check The Furnace Blower Unit

Within modern furnaces, a blower unit is responsible for pushing air through the furnace system and into the area being heated. If the blower is blocked or the distribution fan is damaged, only the immediate area will be heated to a useful extent. Surrounding areas may be slightly warmed, but not to the desired temperature within a reasonable amount of time.

Disconnect the furnace’s power and open the furnace’s access panel, which should be held by a few screws. Consult the furnace’s instruction manual for the exact location of the blower if needed, and inspect the blower.

If there is any burned material, such as soot or singed paper, sweep the material away. Avoid vacuuming any of the material if the furnace was recently on, as hot ash can damage the inside of a vacuum cleaner.

The blower may be taken apart to access the fan system. There may be one large fan or a system of smaller fans used to distribute air, which may need to be cleaned. The fan sits on an axle that can be covered in ash and slowed down if not maintained. If manufacturer defects exist, the blower may be exposed enough to the point of melting the fan blades. If the fan blades are melted, contact the manufacturer for a replacement fan set.

Inspect The Heating Element

For electric furnaces, a heating element is powered to generate enough heat for distribution as needed. Whether in the form of a block, plate, or coil, the heating element can suffer regular wear and tear through constant on and off operation.

Especially in the case of heating coils, a break can take place in the heating element that requires an immediate replacement. Even if the heating element is working, the breaking point becomes more brittle after continued use until the entire system stops working.

A damaged heating element that turns on and off due to a brittle connection will not heat the area efficiently. If the heating element seems to be in tact, be sure to check its connection to the power supply. If any wires are removed, high temperature-resistant, shielded electrical wire can be used for replacement. Try to match the current wire color code to avoid confusion during replacement.

If you need help with furnace troubleshooting, contact a furnace repair professional, such as at http://www.bescoair.net.

Your very first moving day is rapidly approaching. It is an exciting time, but it can be a stressful endeavor. This article will provide some useful tips and tricks for surviving your first move.

How Much Will The Move Cost You?

If you are hiring a moving company to help you, know the rates you should be expecting. On average, if your move is keeping you within the same town, expect somewhere around $100 per hour. However, if you are moving out of state, rates may be up to $.60 per pound moved. Get a couple of quotes from moving companies and compare the options. Moving companies can offer a variety of services, including boxing up your items.

Create a Checklist

If you can remain organized during packing and moving out, the entire process will be much more enjoyable! Create a checklist to help you stay on task. For example:

By next week: Box up clothes

Call and get 3 quotes from moving companies within the next week

Secure time moving company will arrive

Call utility company at new location and set utilities up in your name for the date of your arrival

Label all boxes according to what room they need to go in once you are at your new location

What “Extra” Things Will You Need Once You Move?

If you are moving out for the first time, you likely do not have cleaning supplies, toilet tissue, or even extension cords that you may need. Ask your parents or close friends to help you make a list of these household items you may need if you are going to be living on your own. Here are some examples of items you may need if you are moving out for the first time into your own place:

Household cleaning supplies

Cords (extension cords/power strips)

Soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry supplies

Curtains and curtain rod (If you’re dorm room or apartment does not provide them)

Wash cloths and paper towels

You will probably find a few more things you need once you get settled, but this list can help give you a jump start on the process while you are preparing for the move.

For more information, contact Absolute Moving & Storage Inc. or a similar company.

Moving out for the first time is an exciting leap into independence. If you can stay organized, using a checklist, communicate with your moving company, and prepare for additional items you may need when you move in, your moving out experience can be enjoyable and less stressful.

Working for a temporary employment agency can offer several benefits to an aspiring job seeker. Temp agencies offer employees flexibility, the chance to learn about different career options, and the opportunity to learn new skills. However, there are also some downsides to working in the field of temporary positions. The following will detail the pros and cons of working for a temp agency.

Pros of Temp Agencies

Flexibility – Most temporary positions will have you working 40 hours per week while you are there. After the job is over, you have the option of taking a break from work for a while. Just don’t sit out for too long, as you don’t want the temp agency to forget about you.

Learn About Different Career Fields – Working for multiple types of businesses gives you the opportunity to try out different kinds of company cultures. You will learn what type of job you enjoy doing, whether it be working with the public, in a fast-paced environment, or sitting at a desk.

Connections – The temp agency that represents you has more contacts than you could ever make on your own. They know what companies are looking for in an employee, and they give you an advantage over the applicant off the street.

Gain Experience and Skills – You need experience to apply for a job, but you need a job to gain experience. Temp agencies help you overcome this obstacle by providing you with training or by putting you into an entry-level position where you can gain the skills and experience needed to perform in higher position jobs.

Permanent Employment – Companies like to use temp agencies to try out different people and test them to see if they may qualify for a full-time position at the company. This isn’t true for all companies, but by working through a temp agency, you may be offered the opportunity to stay on as a full-time employee.

Cons of Temp Agencies

Feeling Isolated – According to veteran temp Scott Verrastro, an “us and them” mentality has been known to exist in the workplace when it comes to regular employees and temporary employees. You may be ignored or treated like a second-class citizen by other employees.

Lack of Benefits – If you can find a temp agency that offers benefits, then you are among the lucky few. Most temp agencies do not offer benefits such as medical and dental insurance, vacation time, or sick leave.

Most people that try out temp agencies only stick around until they can find full-time employment. However, there are some that have made a living by doing temp work, and they have found agencies that can provide the benefits they need. If you find yourself in a slump while looking for work, or if you just want to try out different career options, then choosing a temporary employment agency, such as at http://www.montustaffing.com/, is the way to go.

If your cholesterol is on the rise or if you have a few pounds to lose, your doctor may have a word with you about your diet. One of the things he or she will mention is fat. It’s not that you need to cut fat out of your diet all together, you just need to be aware of how much — and what types — you’re eating. Making changes in your grocery shopping and eating habits benefits not only you, but also your entire family.

Fat and Calorie Relationship

Fats are a type of macronutrient, which means you need a lot of them because they give you calories for energy. All fats have 9 calories in a gram — more than double the amount of calories you’ll get from a gram of carbohydrate or a gram of protein.

Packaging labels generally won’t state the calories from fat though, unless it’s part of the colorful advertising on the front of the package. They’ll only list the fat grams and percent daily value on the nutrition facts panel.

The Recommendation

Fats need to make up 20 to 35 percent of the calories you have in your diet, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine states. Based on an 1,800-calorie daily diet, as an example, you’ll need 360 to 630 calories from fat. Divide the calories by 9 to convert to grams, which is 40 to 70 grams of total fat in this case.

Reading Food Labels

If you’re looking at a food label, you’ll see the total fat grams listed near the very top and then the percent daily value directly next to that on the right. The percent daily value, or DV, is based on a 2,000-calorie diet and a set fat recommendation of 65 grams per day. This may be too high or too low for your needs — your doctor can help you determine the right amount.

So if the food contains 12 grams of total fat in a serving, divide that amount by the 65-gram recommendation. In this case, a single serving takes up 18 percent of your daily fat allowance for 2,000 calories. If you want to figure out calories from fat, simply multiply the total fat grams by 9 calories per gram. A food that offers 12 grams of total fat provides 108 calories from fat alone.

Good vs. Bad

Ideally all of your fat grams should come from monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, more commonly shown as MUFAs and PUFAs. These good fats help stabilize your cholesterol levels and protect your heart. Food manufacturers are not required to list these fats specifically on the label — they are part of the total fat grams — but they can list them if they choose to do so.

You will see saturated fat and trans fat grams listed below the total fat. These are the bad fats that you want to limit. Saturated and trans fats clog and harden your arteries when you have a lot in your diet and elevate your risk of developing heart disease later on in life. If you subtract saturated and trans fats from the total fat, everything that’s left comes from MUFAs and PUFAs.

Additional Details

Because of saturated and trans fats’ harmful effects in your body, you’ll have to carefully monitor your intake. Saturated fat should make up no more than 10 percent of your overall calories, which is a maximum of 20 grams for an 1,800-calorie diet. Trans fat should account less than 1 percent of your calories, according to the American Heart Association. For an 1,800-calorie diet, you can have up to 2 grams of trans fat per day. By following these few guidelines, your doctor should notice some improvement by your next checkup. If you are looking for a family doctor, consult Selah Medical Center.

If you depend on word of mouth or referrals as part of your advertising, it is crucial to choose the most appropriate type of business card. A cheap business card looks less than what it should be, while a quality card made on heavy paper tells your clients a lot about you. Therefore, choosing the most appropriate type of business card and card stock is an important business decision that should not be put off.

What Types of Finishes are Popular?

Three common examples of finish for your new business cards include:

Full Gloss

Front Gloss

Matte

Obviously, your own preferences should impact the type of finish you ultimately choose. However, a full gloss finish often acquires a lot of attention because it includes the entire business card and in some careers, that could be crucial.

Front gloss gets attention as well, but its success may depend on whether you chose to use both sides of your business cards or only the front.

A matte finish is often more subtle and less attention getting. However, because they are all on the same size business card on heavy paper, your image will remain professional and appropriate for the situation.

Other Options for the Construction of Your New Business Cards

You have probably already noticed that simply by obtaining and maintaining the attention of a prospective client, you have your foot in the door. Another technique to consider including in your business cards is a raised or ridged appearance on the front of the card.

If someone receives a dozen business cards a week, they all begin to look alike. A unique or less common aspect of your business card, such as raised lettering or raised borders can set you apart from the other business cards that have already been received.

Customizing your Business Cards in a New and Interesting Way

It may seem unusual to spend so much time worrying about your business cards, but the fact is that they are often your first and only chance to be remembered. Therefore, another option to consider is to implement some aspect of your business, interests or hobbies into the card itself.

That could be an image, a reminder, a saying, etc. Each 16pt business card is of sufficient size to support additional weight and as a result, your card can do the talking for you, long after it was first given out.

Finally, 16 pt business cards are the same size as any other standard business card. However, the selective use of quality paper and creative techniques that are designed to obtain the attention of each person who uses it, clearly mark its user as an interesting and important professional to maintain contact with.

You’ve always dreamed of owning your own business, and being your own boss. Now that day is here. But there are some technical and legal aspects of owning your own business that you had not considered. You may be asking many questions, such as, “How much are taxes?’ “Should I own or lease a building?”. You also may be asking what type of insurance you need. There are many forms of insurance out there designed for small businesses. But you need to cover the basics for your small business. Here are four types of insurance a small business should have:

1. Business Interruption

Business interruption insurance is the difference between a setback, and having to close permanently. Business interruption insurance will pay expenses if your business has to temporarily close. If there is a fire or a storm that damages your property, your business will need to close for repairs. Business interruption pays your bills until you reopen. This type of insurance can also pay for you to move to a temporary property until you reopen. Some small businesses cannot survive a temporary closing. Business interruption insurance can ensure your business survives.

2. Surety Bonds

Surety bonds guarantee that sales tax or utility bills will be paid by a small business. In fact, many states require businesses to have surety bonds, especially contractors. The most common types of surety bonds are utility bonds. These bonds guarantee that utilities will be paid. If you are a small retail or food business, you will also need a sales tax bond. Insurance companies accept premiums, and act as a bond holder. They guarantee that utilities or sales tax will be paid in the event that your business is unable to do so.

3. Property

Property insurance is vital to a small business. Property insurance protects your business and assets. Even if you lease your building or office space, property insurance can protect the contents of your business. Commercial property insurance protects your business in the event of fire, flood, and weather. Some commercial property insurance plans will also protect your property and assets in a lawsuit. Remember that if an employee or customer hurts themselves on your property, your business may be held liable. Insurance will protect your business.

4. Group Benefit Plan

Group benefit plans include life insurance, dental, health insurance, and even disability. Many insurance companies provide discounts in rates for group benefits. The discounts increase with each employee that is added. While group benefit plans may seem like they’re not worth the expense, these plans give you a leg up on your competition. By providing employee benefit plans from places like NFP, P & C, Inc., you will attract and keep experienced and talented employees. Your employees will also be happier, healthier, and more productive.

These are the four types of insurance your small business should have. While your mind may be spinning with choices and decisions, these main types of insurance should keep you covered.

Moving a business enterprise? How you find the right firm can make all the difference between a successful transition and an absolute disaster. Take a look at these easy tips to guard against some of the biggest problems with moving business operations from one place to another.

Maybe you’re building a brand-new facility. Or maybe some of your departments have gotten too big for the offices they are working in, and will move to other existing spaces, either within the business campus, or in new locations.

Whether you’re moving across the street, down the road or across town, you need to secure the best business moving services to make sure the job will get done well. Choose poorly, and you can run into big problems. You need to have all of the gear and equipment in place to facilitate work in the new office on a particular timeline — or you could lose a lot of business. Here are some ways to make sure the move happens when you need it to.

Scout Out the Shop

When you’re talking to a potential business mover, look at the actual ways they’ll be handling your job. Ask if they have liftgates on trucks, and how they will be moving heavy objects or equipment.

The reason you need to ask about this? Some firms under-invest in moving equipment. They simply hire a lot of raw muscle in the form of relatively untrained workers. In some cases, they just use bulky wooden carts to move heavy items from one place to another. All of this is a recipe for disaster, so make sure your business movers have the tools and resources they need to succeed.

Look for a Binding Estimate on Work

Another potential problem with business moves is price bloating. You may get quoted one decent price at the beginning, and end up with a price that you can’t afford at the end.

The solution? A binding estimate. A binding estimate is a business agreement which provides a ballpark estimate for final costs. Binding estimates are generally enforceable for both household and business moving clients. Take a look at resources like this one from ABC News to learn more.

Try A Performance Bond

Another way to secure good results for a project is to get a performance bond.

Moving contractors and other track contractors get bond backing to give clients peace of mind that their business moving will be done on time, and up to general industry standards. Any major project can benefit from having a performance bond in place to make sure that any unfortunate last-minute changes won’t impact the customer’s business operations.

Use these three strategies to protect yourself from a subpar move that can leave your staffers scrambling to set up new operations in a new building. To learn more information, contact a company like Economy Movers & Storage Inc. for answers to any of your other questions.

If your business is like most, the cost of cooling your office or retail store in the summer makes up a substantial part of your monthly budget, at least during those “dog days of summer.” Although it’s necessary to cool your buildings for both your employees’ and customers’ comfort, you obviously don’t want to pay any more than you have to to run your air conditioner installation.

Easy ways to keep your business air conditioning costs down

1. Limit the access to your thermostat. If your office is like most offices, there’s a constant battle between those workers who are too cold and those who are too hot. This constant adjusting of the thermostat is a huge energy waster and usually results in no one being happy. Avoid this scenario by installing a locking cover for your thermostat and setting a policy that only the manager or other designated person is allowed to adjust the temperature.

2. Set your thermostat two degrees higher than you think is comfortable. The reasoning for this is simple. The human body is barely able to discern a two-degree temperature variation, but those two degrees can save you a bundle, as much as 10 to 15 percent per degree, depending on what part of the country your office is located.

3. Clear off those registers at the beginning of spring. The U.S. Department of Energy lists clearing furniture and other debris away from your registers as one of the best ways to conserve energy. It makes sense. It’s all but impossible for your air conditioning system to cool your building if a portion of the facility’s registers are blocked. Have your employees clear off the floor of their offices at the beginning of the warm weather season to avoid this problem.

4. Don’t skimp on maintenance. It may be obvious, but it’s true. The few dollars you save by ignoring your annual air conditioning maintenance call could cost you a lot more in repair bills as well as lost business because your store is too uncomfortably hot for people to shop there.

5. Close the blinds. As long as you’re setting office energy policies, make sure that all employees keep their drapes and blinds closed during the day so that your air conditioning system doesn’t have to work overtime to make up for sun’s heat.

Cooling your offices or store in the summer doesn’t have to break your budget. Keep those cooling costs under control by limiting access to your thermostat, turning your temperature up a couple of degrees and making sure to schedule regular maintenance calls.

You don’t need to only call a locksmith when you’ve forgotten your keys and are locked out of your house; he or she can actually work with you to increase the overall security of your home. Today’s locksmiths are typically skilled in installing a number of security features in private residences, and these can make you more safe when at home and can ensure your house is secure when you’re away.

Consider these 4 ways that locksmiths can increase the overall security of your home.

1. Pointing out areas of your home that need better security.

Because a locksmith is so experienced in changing locks after a break-in, he or she will know your home’s vulnerable spots when it comes to security. He or she can evaluate your home and garage and note if you need better locks on back doors, basement windows, and other areas. A locksmith can also note if certain locks are too small and fragile to offer real security or if they need to be replaced because of wear and tear. This type of assessment can be an important first step in increasing your home’s security.

2. Updating your home’s deadbolts.

A small deadbolt on a door can offer some security against intruders but it’s not very difficult to break through these with a few good kicks. If you’re very concerned about security you might have crossbar deadbolts installed; these are bars that go across an entire door to keep it secure. Any type of larger, thicker deadbolt than the standard residential deadbolt you buy at hardware stores will improve your security, and a locksmith can install it easily.

3. Installing coded keypads.

Commercial buildings use coded keypads on their entryways because they are so much more secure than simple keys. You can have the same type of locking mechanism installed on your home to increase security. This type of keypad can be tied in with an alarm system or can work as a lock itself. This can be a great choice for those who take in roommates, as it’s easier to change the keypad code once a roommate leaves than it is to have the locks changed on all the doors.

4. Installing remote locking mechanisms.

Today’s locksmiths are typically skilled in installing remote locking mechanisms so that you can lock your home via your smart phone. This type of feature can ensure that your home is safely locked when you’re away, as you don’t need to worry about whether or not you locked the front door behind you when you left. It’s also a good choice for parents as they can lock the doors behind their children when they come or go and not need to worry if they remembered to do this. Visit http://advancedlocksmithsfl.net to see how locksmiths in your area can benefit your home’s security.
