High Point bank robbed

HIGH POINT — A High Point bank was robbed today.

High Point police said a man walked in the BB&T branch at 2105 Westchester Drive passed a teller a note and demanded money about 3:50 p.m.. He fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Police said the robber is about 6 feet tall and had a mustache and a goatee.

In North Carolina, 46 percent of those polled said they have voted or would vote for Romney. Forty-five percent said they have voted or would vote for Obama.

High Point firefighters battle home blaze

HIGH POINT -- Fire destroyed a vacant home in High Point tonight.

Firefighters responded to 801 Carter St. at 7:50 p.m., said Battalion Chief Brian Evans. When they arrived on the scene, flames were pouring from the home on three sides, he said.

Evans said 17 firefighters in six vehicles responded to the blaze. Firefighters remained on the scene three hours later.

A car hit a utility pole on East Fork Road about 8:20 a.m. The crash broke the pole, which pulled down lines from at least one other pole.

Interstate lanes to be closed near High Point

HIGH POINT — The N.C. Department of Transportation said work crews will close lanes on two highways near High Point this week.

On Wednesday, the right lane of eastbound Interstate 74 will be closed near Baker Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Thursday, the right lane of southbound Interstate 85 will be closed near Riverdale Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
