<p><strong>50 Cent</strong> has made a habit of being an instigator, brewing beefs, creating rivalries and then in the end, using his extended resources and creativity chewing rappers up and spitting them out. But now it looks like he’s got a new kind of Foe. In a recent interview with <strong>Greg Street </strong>on his V103 radio show in Atlanta 50 revealed he is suing World Star Hip Hop (WSHH) for using his likeness.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>“I gotta lawsuit against <em>WorldStar</em> for utilizing my likeness,” 50 explained. “A lot of people felt like that was my site because they seen my face on the cover of [the website] for a long time.”</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>“But Q (WSHH founder), you see, you should really be nice to me. Because you’re not nice to me, I’m not nice. I have lawyers on retainers and I have to pay them so much money anyway, so we’ll go back and forth to court until [they] can’t afford a subway sandwich. I gotta pay them anyway. … It’s already too late for [them],” he continued.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>For the last couple of years, WSHH has featured YouTube like content catering specifically to an urban niche featuring everything from rap battles to Fat Back strip teases to silly random ish. Kind of similar to <a href="http://HighbridNation.com">HighbridNation</a> just in a video & viral format. I guess 50 ran out of rappers to antagonize. It seems like a frivolous suit and as 50 admits its probably not something he would pursue if his lawyers weren’t just sitting on the sidelines waiting for something to do.</p>

<p>To commemorate the 25th Anniversary of his first sneaker, Jordan is coming out of retirement…again. Well not exactly. Instead of returning to the court he’s releasing a new addition to the Jordan shoe franchise. Yesterday in Miami, <strong>Jordan Brand</strong> officially unveiled the <em><strong>Air Jordan 2010.</strong></em> Jordan previously said that following the Jordan 23’s they would no longer make any more original designs instead focus on remixing the classics with new color schemes and mashups.</p>

<p>VP of Creative Design for <strong>NIKE Tinker Hatfield</strong> and Jordan Brand Creative Director <strong>Mark Smith</strong> teamed up to create this shoe that they say meshes high in performance with Michael Jordan’s personality.</p>
<p>So SOUND OFF! What do you think? The globe thing on the shoe is what they’re calling a transparent thermoplastic urethane (TPU) window. Its not functional in any way or used for performance instead its what the shoe designers devised to represent Jordan’s ability to let opponents see a little bit of his game without ever exposing the entire thing. Hmmmm.</p>

<p>Over the years I’ve heard the fallacy from several misguided individuals that think all Republicans are rich and white. While it may vastly overstated generalization the GOP party chairman, Michael Steele surprisingly is Black. Not only black but as he told CNN’s Roland Martin (On TVOne) some white Republicans are “scared” of him.</p>
<blockquote><p> <em>“I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me,” said Steele, the first African-American RNC chairman. “I’m like, ‘I’m on your side.’”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>This is very interesting in my opinion. In a nutshell what I’m learning here is Old School White Republicans even on the National political stage have been so conditioned to fear black folks that they can’t pull themselves to accept a black man even when he’s working hard to support their own cause. That’s crazy. Almost like some type of political paradox I can’t fully wrap my brain around.</p>

<p>Apparently white is the new black because lately corporate America has been trying hard to make our beautiful melanin filled skin tones look a bit more Caucasian persuasive. Still others don’t need any help and actually <a href="http://highbridnation.com/2009/11/09/sammy-sosa-pulls-a-michael-jackson-and-bleaches-his-grill/">do it to themselves</a>. While it may be in attempt to appeal to their largely more dominant white audiences there are certainly some ethical concerns. Perhaps its just the shot and given <strong>Alicia Keys</strong> being of mixed decent its not surprising but she does look a little pale in the photo especially for a fashion magazine cover.</p>

<p>First off let me say <strong>Happy Belated Veteran’s Day</strong> to all the Highbrid Nation vets out there. If you are like me, you were out taking advantage of all those free meals being offered to servicemen yesterday. <img src='http://highbridnation.com/wordpress/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Speaking of Veteran’s Day, <strong>President Obama</strong> is dealing with a serious issue in regards to the war in Afghanistan. Should he send more troops or not? On one hand if he sends more troops it will take that much longer to remove them, thus ensuring that the war goes on for several more years. It may also delay the Afghan government from doing what they need to to make sure they are able to secure their own country. On the other hand adding more troops was successful in Iraq. The idea is that you would overrun the Taliban with more troops in key areas, run them out or kill them, then the war is over (of course that is much easier in theory).</p>
<p>Word has it that Obama has narrowed his options for troop levels to four options which range from adding no more troops to adding up to 40,000 soldiers and marines with various ranges of combat troops and troops sent just for the purpose of training Afghan police.</p>
<p>The pressure is on Obama because every day that he waits will likely result in more American deaths as the violence in Afghanistan has been increasing in recent months. </p>
<p>So Sound Off Highbrid Nation. What should he do and why? I’d especially like to hear from the Nation members that are military personal as Obama’s decision may have great consequences for them.</p>

Remember <strong>FUBU</strong>? Of course you do. That ultra baggy almost cliche urban apparel that lie somewhere between the higher end <strong>Sean John</strong> and <strong>Rocawear</strong> and the more low budget <strong>South Pole</strong> lines during the heyday. Today the brand is non-existent and the very few appearances it makes in the public are the product of the recession and perhaps their wearers holding on to their gear a bit too long.</p>
<p>But in fall 2010, founder <strong>Daymond John</strong> hopes to change that as he’s planning to reintroduce the brand this time looking to feature a more surf-skate/ urban mashup persona for the the renewal of the label for marketing to a wider audience.</p>
<p>The brand which stood for “For Us, By Us” invoked a buzz generating dialog among consumers of exactly who “US” referred to. The African-American community viewed the label as a badge of pride as the brand that embodied the spirit of generation while still others equated “us” as simply the hip-hop culture or the younger, rebellious generation. Unfortunately for FUBU the collections never lived up to the buzz generated by the name.</p>
<p>However John hopes present a much more defined collection this time around. The initial offering which he describes as a “Carhartt-meets-Abercrombie & Fitch style,” will ascend to a more affluent $65 price point and feature men’s wear with a smattering of women’s and some swim suits.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>“Kids have a three-year memory span, so most don’t have a sense of the brand’s roots,” John said. “I think FUBU to the kids is kind of an American brand. In apparel, [brands] tend to have a life cycle of three to five years and then need to be reinvented or taken to the next level.”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Like so many Urban business stories, FUBU was the brainchild of John and three of his Queen, NY homeboys, <strong>Alexander Martin, Carl Brown</strong> and <strong>Keith Perrin</strong>. The brand ascended to national prominence when its spokesperson LL Cool J was able to flip a less than subliminal reference to the brand during a nation TV spot he was part of for gap.</p>

<p>Ahhh and of course there was one of the original <a href="http://highbridnation.com/tag/fat-back/">Fat Back</a> anthems, Fatty Girl featuring <strong>LL, Ludacris and Keith Murray</strong> the lone hit from FUBU Entertainment’s <em>The Good Life</em>.</p>

<p>Both legends in their own right it appears that hip hop pioneer <strong>Russell Simmons</strong> and legendary actor, <strong>Bill Cosby </strong>disagree on societies social problems. Recently Cosby has been <a href="http://highbridnation.com/2008/05/02/bill-cosby-smacks-newark-nj-community-leaders-over-the-head-with-blunt-reality/">very outspoken</a> concerning his disappointment over the urban youth’s progression and blames them for many of the ills in black society. In an open letter on <a href="http://globalgrind.com/content/1114451/I-Love-Bill-Cosby-But/">his <strong>Global Grind </strong>outlet,</a> Simmons fired back asking Cosby to focus more on society’s role in the behavioral challenges instead of being critical.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>“Bill Cosby is an example of someone from the older generation who has consistently blamed the poets and asked suffering community members to bare the full burden of guilt for the struggles that they endure.” </em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>“What they don’t understand is that the young people who they criticize did not create their own realities,” he continues. “They did not create the crumbling education system that we school them in. They did not create the drug epidemic and drug wars that have resulted in a dysfunctional family structure. They did not create the health care crisis that does not treat them. They did not create the culture of violence that they fall victim to.”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Simmons acknowledges Cosby’s intention as one of motivation and encouragement but feels in some way its his way of exonerating their generation of any responsibility in the problems facing the youth.</p>
<blockquote><p> <em>I am letting the older generation know that they must admit that young people are less racist, less sexist, less homophobic, less prejudice than their parents and far less than their grandparents. Mr. Cosby, you know that your generation is carrying a lot more dirt, you are all just smart enough to cover it up.</em></p></blockquote>
<p><font color="#008000">While its not the “beef” we’re used to Simmons did invite Cosby to a closed door discussion about the issues. “If you need an office to do it in, my door is always open,” Simmons said. So its kind of like old man beef. Which leads me to my second point. I find it rather interesting that Simmons in some way tries to assume the voice of the youth. Yeah you’re the father of hip hop but bro, you’re old too. Don’t look at Cosby like he’s some senior citizen and you’re some spring chicken. </font></p>
<p><font color="#008000">As far as the issues, I think they both have valid points. I’ve always told people that the true character of man is not what he can do with what he’s given but what he hasn’t been. Just because society disproportionately dealt the urban youth a bad hand doesn’t mean they can’t succeed. They just have to work that much harder. What are we going to cry foul? Say life cheated us? Whose going to listen. We have the option of accepting our reality or working hard to change it. </font></p>
