The new website is DONE! The shop the new site the blog and the lookbook are now all available over at highlandandponce.com! lots of blood sweat tears and many cans of sparks later. The store is under "coming soon" mode. The grand opening will commence with the productions of some advertisements that I've bought. Wish me luck, I hope that this is the beginning of something special. (cue the sappy 70's slow jams)

heres a preview of the shots used for my friend ksana's website. There are more being used for an editorial and its all styled impeccably (p.s. i provided the wardrobe and this dress will be available with the launch on highlandandponce blanc. and my sister did my makeup) it was fun and its hard for some one to convince me to actually model for them so this was great!

Today is a gloomy day. It isn't raining anymore sadly; we needed a bit of wet weather 'round here. It also invalidates my excuse for staying in bed all day reading magazines and drinking coffee with cali-cat. Anyway whats the point of this post....? Oh this girl. this girl.(found here) my obsession with her is borderline uh obsessive? She steals words from me. her hair. her lipstick the smirk I love it all shes like and off duty showgirl-grunge era chick hybrid. and now that my hair is that length i want to copy. but i wont look like that. sigh. oh yeah heres a picture of the new cut i did it with kitchen scciors. a little britney spears moment. k bye

My younger sister and I had a great discussion about whether someone could be in happily in love with the same person forever. She believes that its not possible(such a cynic at 17!!!) and I told her that I thought it was. When I was her age I hadn't started dating yet (but wanted to) and was primarily focused on everything but that. I mean I was on dance , the school mascot, the yearbook staff, had a part time job etc etc. I was completely fulfilled with my friends and family and hobbies. Shes a bit different. Teenagers are naturally more guarded with their personal lives but I do know that she has had quite a few relationship dramas already. When I was 19 and in college i had my first boyfriend and became completely overwhelmed and consumed by this relationship. It became my entire life. Obviously it did not work out. Here's the thing that I've learned many relationships and dates and experiences later. You have to be fulfilled with your life first. No one worth while is going to be interested in a person whose only interest is them. 17 year olds don't know that 19 year olds don't know that and I'm sure other older people don't know that either. The more focused I became on bettering myself and my life the more attractive I became not only to myself but to other people. (and here's the fashion-y part of this) I didn't have to dress in a way to please other people but only to please myself, and that confidence attracted the right person. If you are not satisfied with yourself you will NEVER be satisfied with one person, one job or anything for that matter.(now for gratuitous photos of couples real or otherwise)

ahh long time no see. I want to let everyone know that I started a tumblr. Its more of an outlet for random pictures that inspire me so that I can leave the blog for text based posts. I got a ton of response on my opinion piece about having short hair so I will focus more on opinons about popular trends society and culture(and really try not to be too polarizing) while opening up this site as a place where others can put in their two cents as well. I think that that would be fun for me. So for visual stimulation go over to highlandandponce.tumblr.com and mental stimulation keep tuning in here.

IM going to go ahead and admit that i usually delete mailings from stores. I don't even know how i get signed up for them in the first place. But fate told me to open this one from jcrew. i LOVE this look. it kind of reminds me of the look i was working in the spring time. Thigh high socks, the mixture of coral ochre and gold. You cant see it in the screen cap i took but the model also has the most perfect shade of pink on her nails.

I've always been a sucker for vintage patterns. I've been collecting them for a few years now. When i lived in Atlanta i had a HUGE stash of vintage patterns that were ten cents each and spanned from the forties to the 70's. They got destroyed however during the cross country move and I've been trying to build anew ever since. Some via ebay and etsy and I'm always on the look out when I'm at antique malls and thrift stores. Today I was on the Butterick website looking for a pattern to use for a dress I'm making for my mom (a black party where everyone attending must wear black) She specifically told me nothing to "frou frou" which means all of my skirted patterns were out and anything with a puff sleeve was out. So anyway I'm on the butterick site and i notice that they produce a few of their vintage patterns. And cute ones too! and knowing that joanns regularly has 99cent pattern sells looks as if these patterns will soon become mine.

i'm so over this mentality that a woman narrative revolves around the men in her life. Today I watched "how to sew an American quilt" and all of the story lines revolved around women and how their subservience to men shaped their self esteem the lifestyles their personalities their entire existence. I HATE that. and its not just that movie either but almost any movie where the main characters are women(all the way back to one of my favorite movies of all time "the women") Its as if women cannot have any other stimulus in their lives but men, that a woman was nothing with out her man as horrible as he may be.

Am i going to cut my hair again? maybe, if the mood strikes me. I'm not so inclined to chop of my hair as rebellious act against men as I am to keep it long, because that would still allow men to choose my life for me. I am just inspired to be independent. to quote the movie(for better or for worse) "to be brave and follow [my] instincts."

So, props to all the girls in the world doing their own things. props to the girls with short hair hair (and with long hair). Props to all girls who go beyond gender roles and expectations.

My friends host lots of shows at their home lovingly referred to as the "Hickey Underworld" I've only had a chance to go once since i very much (and this is a point of contention in my relationships) the spontaneity gene. Well its not that i lack that gene its that i usually book myself so that there is very little room for me to make the hour and a half drive down to long beach and then an hour back home. anywho thats not even what this post is about. this post is about this amazingly cute flyer. I have no idea who designed it but its brilliant. I mean look at that handwritten type face.
