New tidings have come and gone, and it's been some time. Many many things have occurred and changed. I am now finding myself with time; and with that-a need to rest, relax and express.

So, I began by painting. Then, searching for more canvases and more paintcans, and more brushes; as I could not find enough. Painting. Asking the canvas and materials what it had to tell, finding stories I never knew were there, sharing more than I ever planned.

Wire Art- Resurrecting Silent Wind Chimes

Playing with wire, as I stated before, is my way of relaxing at times.

In two instances recently, I'd discovered old chimes that could not sing anymore.To me that is a travesty! Chimes are meant to sing! I love them. They just needed a little loving, a bit of wire, and a clapper that will last a lifetime- the most beautiful sounding chimes now ring! Yay! Music to my ears!

With this second set, I revamped the entire chime, using only the tubes from an old one that was poorly designed- looked pretty but it did not ring at all.
My first attempt from scratch, a fantastic learning experience! I'm not afraid to try!
Hand sewn wind catcher, a rock for a clapper- they sing again.

They sometimes get crooked I'll admit-I most likely need to thread them a different way.... but they now sing with the wind- and that's just fine by me. :) Happy chimes again.

Over the Weekend I played a bit with the wire again; came up with a bouncy kid, a sitter and a nosy, happy man...LOL. I play with the wire while my husband plays guitar - a way we both relax.

Then my hubby came out and said, "oh look, a horse!" .....LOL! So, I thought- 'perfect! the "Breast Cancer's Trojan Horse".' ...and there it is...

For the past three days I have played with paint, allowing the mood to strike. What hit today is final. What inspired this is the simple fact that if your belief's differ from the "norm" in our society, you are hushed, or you do not talk about it, or you are considered unequal. No matter what the analogy that pops up to illustrate this- the end effect is your different can be mute.
This is one of my surreal compilations- she has no mouth because she is mute.

My experiences with Real Food

What!??? You want fresh vegetables always now??

With a new challenge coming up in barely over a week, I wanted to share my personal experience with the last one.

You see, due to health problems in 2012, I had started looking for natural ways to help our family. I just knew there had to be answers out there! And I started searching! I ran across an blog post on Holistic Mama.
The blog was about a challenge I'd never heard of before- a 7 Day "Real Food" challenge- to eat wholesome, real food for 7 days.
hmmm? Isn't all food REAL!?

The challenge even included a free basic guide to what Roxanne King, an accredited health and nutrition professional, considered to be Real Food. Can't go wrong with free, nor professional advice!
And it wasn't a diet! Not a fad! Not expensive! Just a change!

I read it, it seemed pretty easy! I understood what was meant by real food in a matter of minutes.
I loved cooking, and this concept presented me with possibilities I considered feasible! It made sense!
As an added bonus at the time, I could join for free, and be included in an enormous list of giveaways!

Now, truthfully, I didn't take the giveaways seriously at the time. But the challenge- I considered!
I asked questions, and was surprised to find answers immediately provided.
The support system alone sold me.

So I planned, I bought food for it accordingly- nothing too far off my normal grocery list to really make a difference... and I tried it! The deal, at our house, is that I am the only female in an all male testosterone filled house (Dad and 2 Teenage boys! and me.) My boys do not take well to announced changes- so, at first, I planned to this for myself- like a test run. The problem was- I couldn't afford 2 dinners a night, so each night's meal I made actually followed the plan. After the first night of the challenge- and the positive reaction I got from everyone on how good dinner was...I decided to cook for everyone the rest of the week following the challenge, and just not "announce" it. (My boys -all 3 of them- do not like changes, let alone announced declarations of favorite foods being changed! LOL...) So I kept it to myself and we finished 7 days in full, without whimper or sigh- (one exception of a whine over no available hot pockets, but it was minor).

After the challenge, what occurred amazed me!!! Floored me actually!
I heard requests!
Yes! Mom, can you make some more of that homemade bread?
Mom, when can we have that steak strip beef stroganoff again- that was good!
Mom! Those bacon wrapped green beans were awesome, etc, etc.
One night, a while later I didn't have time to run to the store so I threw together a meal with what I had- which included canned green beans... and the reaction was instantaneous! Eww! These aren't fresh! I was floored! What?! You WANT fresh vegies only? From all 3 males in my house came a resounding YES!!!!!!!!!
So I finally took the time to explain the challenge to them, in detail. And now they are all for it! I even have help in the kitchen with cooking! If it means they can get to that real food faster -They are willing to move!

That actually was the best part! Success all around for the entire family- and we are all learning as we go! Wonderful for all!

One of our favorite real food meals ever!

Have you ever tried the Real Food Challenge? **
In a step to eat healthier I took the real food challenge which has the best rules I have ever tried for changing the way I eat. Basically - in my words- For one week-you cook and eat using: No fast food. No convenience food. No boxes. Just cook. It really was not as hard as I thought. It was this challenge taken that inspired me to get the yogurt maker and start making my own homemade. Also the same challenge that inspired a canning set, and making apple butter!
The toughest step for me was, and has been, cereals in the morning for the kids, and sliced cheese for the sandwiches I send in lunches. But we are doing great!

Everyone voted here and the meal my family felt was their favorite during this week was:
Chicken breast sauteed in coconut oil with Garlic and pepper, served with a mix of vegies, and Au gratin Potatoes

My Recipe for Au gratin Potatoes
6-8 potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly,
layered into buttered (or cooking oil sprayed) baking pan 13x9x2.
heat oven to 400 F
then
in med sauce pan combine:
1/2 c water
1/2 cube real butter
1/2 cup homemade plain yogurt
1 brick cream cheese *8 oz
2 c milk
1-2 tbs parsley & chopped chives
garlic salt
pepper
heat in sauce pan stirring constantly, over med heat until cream cheese completely melts,(does not have to boil) immediately pour over potato slices . leave uncovered and bake on center rack 45 min.
Let cool 3-5 min before serving.

Now, in this meal I wasn't perfect according to the rules of Real Food Challenge- I did use a frozen vegie mix and I easily could have replaced this with fresh broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, or whatever! But the challenge is realistic, and allows for goofs -which is what I love for this! The fact of the matter is you are allowed to use up what is still in the fridge- the main idea being you are making better choices, and eliminating the fake foods, preservatives and unnecessary junk food. Which we have done. And my family voted on this one meal as the best. So I am posting it- mistakes and all. In my defense I can say I used fresh frozen, not canned, and not frozen with tons of "butter sauce" or something else that is so frequently offered now a days. LOL
Anyway, I want to thank the people who designed this challenge and say it has changed the way I look at food! Awesome!!!!!
