Logan Elementary Fashion and Talent Show

The PrimeTime students and staff at Logan had such a great experience last year with the Fashion and Talent show that they decided to do it again to close out the 2009-10 school year. The end of the year event showcased fashions that included street and formal wear. After students walked the runway they spiced things up by sharing some of their talents. The performances went from dancing and singing to students making music drumming on garbage cans and playing violins.

Cabrillo Kids Choice Awards

This was the 2nd annual Kids Choice Award Show and as it got underway the event started with a slide show from all the activities Ms. Tasha and the rest of the YMCA PrimeTime Staff had done during the year. From Halloween to Thanksgiving Dinner with parents, to the Winter Holidays thru spring. Then the performers were introduced and the Award show began. The students received awards for Best Helper, Most Talkative and everything in between. During the awards the Students put on a wonderful display of talent, from singing and dancing to Karate and board breaking!

McKinley PrimeTime Variety Show

The students at McKinley Elementary invited friends and family to watch this year’s end of school event, a Variety show that included singing and dancing. The students’ hard work with help from Alex, the site leader, and the rest of the PrimeTime YMCA staff paid off as they presented a magnificent show for all in attendance.

Franklin Annual Variety Show

The PrimeTime students and staff enjoyed their First Annual Variety Show that had all the trappings of an old time Vaudeville Show, from Disco to Drama, including duets singing and dancing. The night would not be complete without an after party; therefore, during intermission the performers took a quick break from the stage and had snack with their parents. A thank you goes out to all that made this a great success including the parent who brought all the music and lighting equipment.

San Diego Zoo helps create ECO-Heros at Nye

San Diego Zoo came to Nye to help educate the children about the ecology and how they would impact the habitats of some animals. Ms. Tristian and Dr. DoLittle empowered students to join forces in creating powerful ECO-HEROS. These Eco- Heroes were given the opportunity to have hands on experience with animals like Rio (a Double Yellow Headed Amazon) and Armondo Santiago (a Three Banded Armadillo). In this encounter the students where EMPOWERED thru information and education on how to have a positive impact and save the environment.

The Aquarium Express Van travels to Horton

This week the students at Horton were visited by Scripps Birch Aquarium for a class in Mollusks. Through scientific observations and squid dissection, students discover the special characteristics of the phylum Mollusca, as well as the adaptations that squid use to eat, move, and protect themselves from predators. Thanks to the Horton PrimeTime Staff, SAY San Diego and Birch Aquarium we have a few more aspiring veterinarians.

Basketball at Standley

Students in Standley’s PrimeTime Program have the opportunity to participate in a competitive basketball league through the support of SAY San Diego. Students learn the basic skills of basketball such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and pivot. The emphasis is on creating an atmosphere where students benefit both physically (cardio workout; balance and coordination) and mentally (learn team work; improve self-esteem).

The Arts at Normal Hights

The Persistence of Memory is the most famous painting by artist Salvador Dalí. And the memory is being kept alive at Normal Heights where the kids are studying Dali and his surrealistic work. PrimeTimes’ Lupe Martinez is enriching the students with the art and history of this great artist and others.

DrumBus ...The Mobile Music Room Comes to Encanto

During the month of January 2010, Encanto Elementary PrimeTime students, in collaboration with SAY, were visited by the DrumBus for a fun filled afternoon of dynamic, interactive drumming. They used authentic African drums and other world percussion instruments and explored the rhythms of the world.

Modern Dance at Roosevelt

The EvOLvE Dance Program at Roosevelt Middle School is a student-directed leadership dance program. It goes beyond the traditional dance class by enabling students to have the opportunity to be the decision-makers by becoming the choreographers, teachers, and managers for upcoming shows. The objective at Roosevelt’s PrimeTime program is to promote a positive, high-energy, and supportive environment that allows students to have fun while developing life-skills and personal character.
