In the Yard...

The kids asked me to come outside to watch them ride bikes this afternoon. Honestly, it's the first nice afternoon that we've had in a while that wasn't crowded over with homework. So, they played (in the dirt, instead of on bikes) and I grabbed my camera to try to catch a photo of this beautiful moth hovering around. The moth was pretty much an escape artist, but my flowers didn't fail me. They are always just as still as I need them to be... :)

I spent a little time this weekend with Amy and Shawn at Pineola Farms. Amy and I went to school together as kids and I'm just getting to know Shawn. We had fun talking about their upcoming wedding and about how we can't believe how O-L-D we are now. I think we are holding up pretty good. :) Doesn't Amy have the most gorgeous blue-green eyes? Trouble One and Trouble Two...

Actually, it's Trouble Two and Trouble Three...
Ava, our adolescent hound dog, has the nickname 'Two,' and Lucy, our toddler mutt dog, has the nickname 'Three.' This simply refers to their placement in our home. Amber, our greyhound, is 'One,' though we hardly ever call her that.
So, today Two and Three decided to sneak out of our very finely fenced backyard for the third time this week. The second time was just this morning! Not to give the gorey details, but it was a close call that both arrived back safe at home. Ava nearly had a fatal encounter with a semi-truck. I think I'm still in shock... and they are both tired, but fine.
So, I took the camera out into the newly secured backyard and took some pictures. As you can see, Lucy, the brown one with the crooked lip, is showing no remorse. Ava looks a little more concerned. Blue, the cat, was just sitting there and looked cute. I couldn't resist. :)
Hopefully tomorrow they will be Good Two and Good Three...wishful thinking.

Wow...what a cutie! This morning, I got to play with a little fireman who just turned one yesterday. He has a brand new firetruck that his granddaddy built just for him. It is fabulous! We spent some time smiling and climbing stairs and drinking granddaddy's coke. He's a very busy guy! Thank you, Patricia, for inviting me to play with y'all today. Oh, Miss Bella...you are so adorable! We had a great time at Pineola Farms this morning as we tried to beat the heat. Bella has grown so much since our last session,and she is still every bit as beautiful. Thanks to her mom and her "Bubbas" for helping me keep her smiling. What a sweet couple! They found each other in our little town after Ellis became the pastor at the Fort Valley United Methodist Church. The service was sweet and simple, and they had a dessert reception! Now that's my kind of food :)
Kelly Hamsley of Katerings by Kelly provided a fabulous spread of fruit, toffee cookies, coffee punch, and pudding shooters. Phyllis, the bride, bakes wedding cakes and even made her own! It was delicious, as always.

A few more from the beach...I don't miss the sand in my teeth every time I take a bite of a cheezit or cookie, but I do miss the relaxation. It was fabulous! I was so relaxed, I turned my camera on my own children, and they took it very well. Here's to another fun vacation and the dream of next summer.

Beach Days with the Pearsons- Middle Georgia Family Photographer

I was fortunate to be able to spend some time with the Pearson family while at the beach last week. We don't get to see them much during the year, so it's always neat to see the kids and marvel at their growth in one short year. Say it in a Storyboard

I am a big fan of using lots of photographs on my walls. One thing that has helped me maximize the use of multiple images when I have a hard time choosing is the use of one or more storyboards. There's no end to the number of creative configurations possible with these boards.
I created this simple black and white storyboard from a recent session. It could be framed in one large frame or ordered as a canvas gallery wrap to eliminate the need for framing altogether!

Today I watched a young artist work some magic on a canvas. She painted and I snapped pictures - it was a great combination! Miss R was in town visiting her grandmother, who really wanted some photos of R in her pretty green dress. Miss R is a budding artist, and she created an original piece right during the shoot. Lots of creativity in the Valley this afternoon... Thank you for having me over - it was a lot of fun!

Today I got to visit one of my best friends from my childhood for a family photo session. Lee and I grew up together on a cul-de-sac in little Fort Valley - it was a blast! Lee and her husband, Sean, have a little boy who just turned one last month. He is an absolute doll, with the most gorgeous eyes and skin! The session was in honor of Sean's parents' 40th wedding anniversary - WOW! I was delighted to make the trip north to spend a little time with this wonderful, sweet family. Thank you, Lee, for asking me to do this - I had a great time seeing you all. Enjoy the first few - many more to come!

Brooke - Senior Photos

This week I was lucky enough to get to photograph the beautiful daughter of one of my dear friends from high school. They traveled all the way back to middle Georgia from Indiana! I'd like to say that the trip was just for the photo session, but that would be a little stretch. :) Brooke's great grandmother was turning 90! Brooke is a ballerina and Pineola Farms provided the perfect backdrop for some dance photos. Thank you, Lauren, for bringing Brooke to me and for trusting me with her senior photos. Prettiest Ring on the Planet

My sister is engaged to a wonderful Aussie! She's been home for the past two weeks planning the wedding for next year. The dress is done, location done, etc. It's so exciting! This was my first op to see the ring on her finger (and to take it from her for photos :). Isn't it lovely? She chose a sapphire for the center stone, as is customary in Australia, but her fiance' bought it from our local jewelry store in Georgia where all the engagement rings in our entire family have come from. Neat, huh? She's leaving at the end of the week, but there is the promise of the fun next year that will keep us company. We will miss her so much.

Sweet Little Girl

So it seems that once per year (or more) I come across an animal in extreme need. They always seem to know where to find me. Why is that? I truly believe that the Twilight Bark is alive and well in Peach County, GA - dogs and cats everywhere are passing the word. "Hey, those Hiley's know how to fix some groovy kibble. Here's their address..."
On my way to work yesterday morning I was about to turn left onto the interstate. I was sitting on an overpass. I noticed two men standing on the bridge, one of them was holding a puppy. Of course, the puppy had my attention, but just then I saw something bouncing around in the tall grass on the shoulder of the bridge, another puppy! This one was chained (yes, CHAINED!) to the metal guard rail about three feet from the right lane of traffic. I'm about to scream at the men when the my light turns green and the person behind me beeps his horn. Unable to do much of anything else, I called in the rescue squad, AKA, my mom, and she promptly drove over, saved the day, and delivered the chained puppy to the vet's office. Sweet Girl is six months old, has been spayed, and has begun her shots. She had a bath today and sat in the hammock with my kids. She is absolutely a love.
Ava is not real sure of her, and Amber could care less. Amber knows she's the boss and is not at all worried about this little docile girl. Just thought I'd share our new found sweetheart. Names, anyone?
