Inside Whitney Port's Closet!

2012-06-27T22:57:00.000-04:00

“I think my closet is a reflection of the Whitney Eve girl: very colourful, print-heavy, eclectic, and most of all, comfortable," Whitney Port told The Coveteur . We popped by Port’s beach-side pad just in time for breakfast, where she had a serious spread waiting for us. We’ve been big supporters of Port since her T.V. days of The Hills and The City, and throughout the continued success of her ever-expanding line, Whitney Eve. “My dream is to dress a girl from head to toe, so accessories are my next step,” she revealed. And, yes, we got an exclusive preview of her upcoming jewellery collection, Bits & Bobs, as well. Port’s walk-in was bursting with colour, prints and whimsical charm—and she’s got the organization thing down to a science. While we were busy browsing her wardrobe and admiring the Boho-like décor, Port had her glam squad add the finishing touches to her hair and make-up. After she was dolled up, we dressed her up in a slew of sartorial outfits: Giuseppe Zanotti sparkly heels, a drapy Thakoon dress—and we even got her into her sweats and fuzzy slippers. Port spilled a ton of stuff: her favourite flea markets, her knack for making a killer cheese plate, her go-to destinations for interiors, and her love for high/low mixing. We adore a girl with a sea of expensive stilettos, but we really love a girl who adds a pair from Zara, Topshop and Urban Outfitters into the mix. Our greatest find in Port’s closet was a certain yellow jumper…ring any bells? (It was the one Port wore on her first day at DVF!) Port’s words of wisdom for aspiring interns? “I absolutely loved all the experience I gained working in the different facets of the fashion industry, from being an intern at Teen Vogue to a P.R. girl at People’s Revolution, to working at a major fashion house. The best advice I can give to anyone trying to work in the fashion industry is to gain work experience as soon as possible and try to secure internships, even as early as summer in high school.”

(L)I love this chair! Another great find at H.D. Buttercup. It had a sister chair. My sister went back the next day to get it, and it was already gone! The Manolos I got at a Manolo signing at Bergdorf’s my first month living in New York. I view them as art pieces and will never wear them! They are signed on the bottom (R)I have been a long time lover of Trish McEvoy No. 3. It is so fresh and oceany! I use it for day and night; I usually just give myself a little squirt in the morning, and then again in the afternoon if I am heading out for the evening. I recently have become a huge fan of the Le Labo line because you can create your own scent!

(L)When I design I am constantly thinking about what I am missing in my closet. When I get ready in the morning, I take mental notes of items I feel I need to complete my look. I think my closet is a reflection of the Whitney Eve girl: very colourful, print-heavy, eclectic, and most of all, comfortable. (R)I got this lampshade at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. When I go to these flea markets I usually find interior accents such as these—as well as costume jewellery. L to R. Skirts, Rodarte, Opening Ceremony; Pumps, Jerome C. Rousseau; Sandals, Valentino; Boots, Chanel.

(L) I love kitchens that open to a sitting room, so even if you aren’t the one doing the cooking—that’s usually me—you can still feel like you are a part of the meal! I don’t cook a lot, per se, but I am a great sous chef to my boyfriend and sister. They are usually the creatives behind the meals that get cooked in here, and I just follow orders and do the chopping. I am great at cheese plates, and usually keep my pantry stocked with every cracker imaginable! Shorts, Unknown Designer; Shoes, Loeffler Randall x Suno(R)I divvy up my clothes into categories: pants, skirts, casual dresses, fancy dresses, tanks, short sleeves, long sleeves, jackets. Within those, I organize them by colour. It’s the easiest way for me to find something. I love the Huggable Hangers from The Container Store; they are so sleek and velvety so nothing ever falls off.

Head over to The Coveteur to see more of Whit's amazing closet.

On the topic. Whitney offered an example of the advice she doles out in her writings, as she tells, "The basic building blocks of my own style is really finding my confidence and realizing that I don't need to follow all of the trends and I don't need to wear what everyone else is wearing," adding, "I just need to wear what I feel comfortable in."

As for her favorite go-to pieces, "they change little by little, but I always have a basic black shoe and bag, so they go with everything," Lauren said. "When I do accessories, I always try to find pieces I can work around, so I always have a basic black shoe, I always have a basic nude shoe, a black bag, and clothing-wise, I always have some sort of black skinny pants whether it's leather or a denim or some sort of knit. I always have a blazer depending on the season, and I wear a lot of maxi dresses."
Lauren also shared a recent purchase she made. "I recently got my little Balenciaga bag with the rose gold hardware because I was wearing my Chanel bag so much even I was getting sick of it, so I needed something to swap it out."

Whitney Port Poses For Britain's Look Magazine

2012-06-22T19:19:00.000-04:00

Whitney Port looks like a top model in new photoshoot for Britain's Look Magazine.
Port says she has supermodel Elle Macpherson to thank for the poses.
The reality TV star-turned-designer has joined the panel of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model and said she's bonding with Elle, the show's host.
"I've learnt from Elle about the importance of knowing your best angles and poses,' she tells British magazine Look.
'I was nervous and a bit overwhelmed at first. Elle Macpherson is so beautiful and statuesque, I almost got first-date nerves meeting her!'
As a former main cast member of the California beach-set reality show, The Hills, Port is used to parading around in bikinis.
Nonetheless, she insists she has body insecurities just like everyone else.
'There are parts [of my body] I feel confident about and things I'm less confident about.
'I'm most likely to show off my legs, but I have quite big boobs and I don't feel comfortable revealing too much,' she explained.
She admits going on a strict diet before going to London this month to film Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model.
'I hired a personal trainer before I did the show, but I'm not doing any exercise now and I feel really lazy.'
Whitney also told Look magazine: ''It was never a goal of mine to be a reality TV star and at time I didn't find [the cameras] easy. But I have ['The City'] to thank for giving me exposure.
''I worry people think I'm a designer just for the sake of it, and I continually worry about failing, but I'm just going to work hard until I make it.''
The budding designer added: ''People put in a lot of time to help me and my father helped me a little at the start, but other than that it's been all me.''
Ms. Port admitted to being a huge fan of Victoria Beckham, saying: ''Oh, I'm a huge fan of Victoria's work and all British fashion. I'd love to see Alexa Chung or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wear my designs. They inspire me.''

Heidi Montag Dishes on Reconciling with Her Mom & Kristin Cavallari's Pregnancy

2012-06-17T19:07:00.000-04:00

By Allison Corneau
Heidi Montag has nothing but love for her former Hills costar Kristin Cavallari!
As Cavallari, 25, prepares to welcome her first child -- a baby boy -- with on-again fiance, NFL player Jay Cutler, Montag couldn't help but gush to Us Weekly about how pregnancy suits her pal.
"She is the most beautiful pregnant woman I've ever seen and I'm very proud of her," Montag, 25, told Us Friday during a Pure nightclub appearance at Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. "I think she's gonna be the best mother ever."
As her friend prepares for first-time motherhood, Montag -- married to Spencer Pratt since 2009 -- admits that having a baby isn't in the cards for her just yet. "Kristin's in a perfect place in her life and in my life, I'm not ready," Montag reasoned.
In the meantime, however, Montag -- who famously underwent 10 plastic surgeries in one day back in 2009 -- tells Us she's enjoying her reunion with her own mother, Darlene Egelhoff, from whom she was estranged until just recently.
"I've been talking to her for about a year and we've both just been so busy and we had so much going on and I finally just had the chance to catch up with her," Montag said of coming together with Egelhoff after two years for drinks and massages.
"I'm all about forgiveness," Heidi said. "Family's very important and I think life is just too short."

I haven't been able to find any photos of Heidi at Pure yet - fingers crossed we'll get some soon. :)

Heidi Montag Ends Two-Year Estrangement With Her Mom!

2012-06-15T20:43:00.001-04:00

Two years ago, Heidi Montag and her mom, Darlene Egelhoff, were in a very dark place.
"Heidi and I aren't speaking to each other right now," Egelhoff told Us Weekly on Mother's Day in 2010. "I've been writing to Heidi, trying to reach her, but she's not responding."
he state of their fractured relationship wasn't exactly surprising, given the way Egelhoff reacted to Montag's new face and body when she revealed her new look on The Hills. (The reality star received 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day, including a chin reduction, brow lift and breast augmentation.)
"How do I go and say that of course I thought you were more beautiful before? I thought you were younger, I thought you were fresher-looking, I thought you were healthier," Egelhoff told Montag as MTV cameras rolled. "What's done is done, so that's a terrible thing for me to say but, yes, that's how I feel. I felt that you were much more beautiful before and I hope that some of this will fade away."
Montag's husband, Spencer Pratt, 28, also helped drive a wedge between the mother-daughter duo. "She's not god. She didn't make Heidi," Pratt sniped on the May 11, 2010 episode of The Hills. "She's just a vagina!"
Through time, however, Montag and her mother have been able to forgive each other and work towards rebuilding their relationship. And on June 13, 2012, the pair bonded during a wine tasting at the Demetria Estate in California's Santa Ynez Valley. The two women even stripped down for a Swedish massage, giving Montag an excuse to show off her much-talked about body.
These are so staged but I'm glad to see Heidi is finally reconnecting with her family again! I hope it lasts and it's not just another PR stunt...who wants to bet that Spencer is the one behind the camera! ;)

Lauren Conrad's Secret to Success? Balance

2012-06-15T20:12:00.002-04:00

These days, Lauren Conrad is one (very) busy lady. The former star of MTV’s “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills” has two successful clothing lines, a fictional book series, and a must-have style guide — with a beauty guide soon to follow. Oh, and then there are all of those television appearances, charity work, and launching her own beauty line based on her awesome beauty blog. So we had to ask her…how does she do it all?
Recessionista: We see you all over the place at book signings, launch parties, television appearances…but then we see photos of you having fun with friends, too — where do you find the time to have a life?
Lauren: Like any working woman it is important to maintain a personal life that is your own and not make life only about work. I find by taking trips with family and friends and spending some quiet time it only helps me with my writing and designing.
R: What kinds of things do you pick up on your travels? Other than fab souvenirs, of course…
L: Traveling can help expose you to different types of people, environments and aesthetics and I find other cultures inspiring to my designs.
R: We couldn’t put down the first book in the Fame Game series…is there more coming? Help a sister out!
L: I have two more books coming out in October of this year. The first is the second in my Fame Game series…
R: …so we’re in luck! What else do you have cooking?
L: In addition I’m releasing Lauren Conrad Beauty. Similar to Lauren Conrad Style, the book is a how-to and everything guide to beauty. It was one of the most time-consuming books I have written but contains such wonderful information and I am really excited to share it with my fans!

Olivia Palermo's Top Style Tips

2012-06-07T23:37:00.002-04:00

Olivia Palermo at the 2012 Convivio charity gala event on June 7, 2012 in Milan, Italy.
Olivia blogged: "Hey everyone! I’m in Milan for a few days! Here I am at Convivio Milano 2012 wearing a BCBG Max Azria dress, Boutique 9 shoes, and jewelry by Carrera y Carrera."

Here are Olivia's Top Style Tips
(interspersed with her latest photos)
FLORAL PRINT
Floral print is a quintessential part of my summer wardrobe – especially shoes and floral trousers.
LARGE TOTE BAGS>
I carry all my essentials in a tote bag. I love Mulberry for the city.
WHITE BLAZERS
A white blazer gives everything a luxe feel; I wear mine with everything from jeans to silk dresses.

Olivia Palermo and boyfriend Johannes Huebl are seen taking a romantic stroll in Brooklyn on June 5, 2012.

METALLICS
To wear the metallic trend in a subtle way, a thin gold belt offsets an outfit perfectly. I wear one to add shape to a dress, or paired with tailored trousers.
ETHNIC PRINTS
Ethic prints are huge this season, and Matthew Williamson always has some beautiful print versions of this on his designs. Inspired by different cultures across the globe, it always adds a bohemian twist to my outfit.
FLORAL INTERPRETATION
Florals are huge on the catwalks, but my perfect interpretation of this trend is with floral-scented candles such as orange blossom and jasmine, which embody the warmer months.

Olivia Palermo models for Vogue Girl's Style Bible

NEON PRINT-CESS
A quirky trend this spring/summer is bright prints, which are everywhere. A great way to wear this trend is with printed trousers, and as I'm a capri pant fan, I’m looking for a few bright pairs.
OVERSIZED HATS
A perfect way to wear the oversized trend – a big, floppy hat is great for the beach. Missoni has beautiful bright hats on offer, which I can't wait to get my hands on.

Liv takes her pooch Mr Butler for a walk in Brooklyn, New York City on June 4, 2012.

EASTERN PROMISE
I think a printed skirt can instantly dress up an ensemble and Japanese-print designs are a beautiful variation on the Eastern-inspired trend. Wear with wedges for a stylish or a stylish summer look.
PASTEL CASHMERE
Pastels are a huge trend this season, in pale blues and pinks. A great way to wear this trend is with a beautiful cashmere sweater. It's perfect for covering up on a cooler summer night. Wear with jeans for a low-key look, or add a feminine feel with a beautiful skirt. I love Bally’s soft versions.

1. Who's your celeb girl crush?
Conrad: Hmm, I don't have one. Maybe I need to work on this as I get asked this question a lot.

4. Best lesson your mom ever taught you?
Conrad: To take the high road.
5. Dream pet to own?

Lauren Conrad on Body Issues & Balancing Life and Love

2012-06-02T11:12:00.001-04:00

By Whitney English
We watched her grow up before our very eyes. Now The Hills queen Lauren Conrad has taken her journey off-camera to pursue her dreams in entertainment, fashion and beauty, and is pretty much killing it!
Conrad recently released her fourth novel titled The Fame Game (a spin-off of her successful L.A. Candy series), and is currently operating two fashion lines and two popular blogs, all while balancing a highly scrutinized personal life. No easy feat for a 26-year-old. In our SheKnows Girl Crush interview, she confesses what she loves and what she doesn't.
Balancing life and love
But Lauren manages it all with a smile. She told SheKnows at her book signing recently that she has an incredible support system to help with the struggles.
"I have people in my life that are really understanding," said Lauren. "They understand that I’m going to disappear for a couple of weeks at a time, and they’re all so supportive. Luckily at this point in my life, I don’t really feel like I’m having to make a compromise."
It doesn’t seem so!
Conrad is regularly spotted enjoying herself with friends -- having recently attended the Coachella Festival in Indio, California -- and is rumored to have a new love in her life. After splitting with beau of three years Kyle Howard last June, L.C. is now said to be dating former guitarist turned law student William Tell.
Getting down to business
But love is clearly not her top priority. Lauren told us she is completely dedicated to her work and truly loves what she does.
"I love the blog because it’s this great sense of community," Lauren told SheKnows. "It’s this platform where I get to go and talk about things that I love. I think that if you’re going to do something, you have to do it your own way."
And Conrad certainly does do things her own way. From keeping candy bowls scattered around her office to painting it entirely pink, the entrepreneur told us she is far from the typical "boss."
"I’m not really a boss," Lauren humbly stated. "I don’t feel comfortable being a boss to anyone. I’m more partners."
About that Glamour cover
Despite being so successful, Lauren told us that she’s just like every other woman with fears and insecurities about her looks.
After her recent Glamour cover -- in which she posed topless -- many women envied Conrad’s amazing physique. Still, Lauren revealed that she too is self-conscious sometimes, and that diet and exercise are constant battles.
"I struggle with it," Lauren told us. "My legs are the one thing that I’m always sort of working around. With book tours and stuff, it’s tough. You really just have to depend on diet. You just cut back on processed sugar, carbohydrates, really just everything that you want."
For now, Lauren is basking in the success of her recent achievements, but that doesn’t mean she's slowing down anytime soon.
When asked where she sees herself in the next five years, Conrad told SheKnows, "Hopefully still doing the things that I’m doing… still in the fashion industry, writing."
Conrad’s next novel, Starstruck, is scheduled for release on Nov. 6 and her guide book, Lauren Conrad BEAUTY, will be out Oct. 16.

Lauren Conrad On Style Tips and A Typical Day In Her Life

2012-05-31T21:34:00.000-04:00

By Louise Elsom
First of all, what drew you into the world of fashion?
I have always loved fashion even from the time I was a young girl designing clothes for my dolls.
Run us through a typical day for you?
Typically I get up and write in the morning when it is quiet and my head is clear. I then go to my Paper Crown offices to go over designs, sketches, patterns and take meetings. Depending on the day I may have outside meetings for my Kohl’s line or for my books.
What wardrobe pieces should every girl have in their closet this season?
For summer, something with colour or print.
Where is the best city in the world to shop?
I love shopping in any city and love the different style takes you see between LA, NY, Chicago, Paris etc. Every city brings its own style and flair.
Do you have any money-saving style tips for us?
You can never go wrong with basics and neutrals. Start with those key items and build on those with pops of colour and accessories.
Here are my top tips:
1. can’t afford a ton of new clothes? Accessories are cheap and can make an outfit.
2. Mix high-end with low-end, like a designer skirt with a tank top or a designer top with affordable jeans. I live in Urban Outfitters jeans.
3. Invest in four black basics: slacks, heels, a blazer, and a high-waisted skirt.
4. Use a tailor. You can find designer pieces for a steal that are off in size and spend £10 to get them altered so they fit right.
5. Don’t follow trends blindly. If you like a certain trend put your own twist on it.
6. Invest in a good pair of shoes and just get them resoled every once in a while.
I have just finished reading L.A Candy, I loved it! What made you decide to branch out into becoming a writer?
I have always loved reading and when the opportunity presented itself for me to author my own novels I wanted to take that challenge. It has been a wonderful experience.
Your new book, The Fame Game, is about a bad girl who loves to cause drama on her reality show. Does any of that draw on your time in Hollywood?
There are elements that I pull from everyday experiences in the reality world, but this book is very much fiction and not really based on one particular person or situation.
What was the inspiration behind your clothing lines?
My inspirations are translated in different ways throughout the process. I tried to make it similar to my personal style. I like dressing really comfortably, but I grew up at the beach in looser, flowing fabrics. Now that I live in the city I have to dress up more, so I tried to combine the two styles. You can dress it up, dress it down. I made it very simple and clean because I like to accessorize. It’s very diverse to wear.
Would you like to offer any advice to people wanting to go into fashion?
Research the field as much as possible and know the market and the consumer. Intern, work in retail, read magazines. Just immerse yourself in fashion!
Finally, what does the future hold for you – any exciting plans, developments?
Currently I continue to design for Paper Crown and LA Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s. I have two more books coming out this October and I also continue to run my websites. There are other projects that I’m working on but I can’t talk about them right now!
