I have put a new blogger site up ...and have moved this site into three different blogs...as of right now....Henni hills Farm...it breaks down into the critters around here, my garden, and Vintage recipes and such....

I know I haven`t posted in awhile...nothing out of the ordinary has been going on around here...Had our annual trip to St Louis back in Jun..a good report for my youngest. Have hatched out a few chicks, until I just got tired of it , which was about a month ago...shut them both down and rehome one of the incubators...My 4 Muscovy hens have all hatched out something...traded for a solid white with blue eyes drake and another chocolate and white hen...Boss chased off the white drake, in which that is why I traded to beginning with...the new Muscovy hen is named Myiah.

here are the three ducks I traded for...I had to take the black and white drake as well....

Here was the white drake...I named it Cotton, until it wandered off or rather Boss took over the all the hens...My idea was to make this one my new drake....I guess I should have penned Boss up...
After about a month ago , when I grew tired of hatching chicks out, I decided I was going to focus more on plants/Garden...and selling plants...So, that is what I have been doing...digging up my rose of Sharon. starts and replanting them and then selling them.

I just couldn`t keep up the demand of the Rose of Sharons`s I still have people wanting them...I tried cuttings ...didn't to do very well with them until lately...Have one the needs to planted...also took cuttings from my yellow and purple mums and have had a great demand for them as well...I also took cuttings from my winter creeper, not very many people know what this is...good thing as I only took one or two cuttings...easy to root..

Also took cuttings from my lavender and creeping thyme...also dug up some my what I call ditch lilies, they were double bloomed this year...
Have also expanded my garden space to include another row of blackberries, hence I didn't really pick very many of those this year....

I haven't really got a good picture of Blackberry lane ( new area of garden , row of blackberries), but it above this area...I have planted climbing roses, 2 different colors on each side of my entryway to this part of the garden and some morning glories ....this picture was token a few months ago...have harvested a few potatoes in a potato tower I built on one of the ends of the two long beds for vegetables and the fence around it on two sides has blackberries and irises...the side separating the two different areas are a couple of grape vines...had one of the vines bloomed and was watching the grapes develop...something got them before I had the chance to harvest them...I have planted sunflowers in the back there, planning on trying to save some seed from them....haven't really got a name for this area of the garden ...thinking about Blackberry something or other....

This is the middle or rather area I have named Strawberry fields...As you can see I have laid carpet down in hopes of keeping the weeds down on the paths....it has worked...my hubby has teased that he gonna to put up a sign to be sure and wipe your feet...in this area of the garden I have made a few changes as well... have dug up some of my irises, not all of them, just one bed of them...I had planted there last year.and putting some daylilies there this year I divided the bed into 2 different beds....both beds will have daylilies in them and have planted about 4 of them in there that I got at Wally world...I have learned that Wally world is not always correct on the names of their plants....neither is Dollar general either...so I am going to try and keep those plants separate...and keep a journal on where I get each plant and what it is named....I did pick up a Daylily at the local K-mart that was going out of business and it`s name is Strawberry fields forever...hopefully since It wasn't in bloom that will be what it is....if not...it still will be pretty in the garden...

So that is basically what I have been doing this summer.....next blog post will probably be the joys of having 2 girls playing 2 different sports at 2 different schools at the same time....yes, that is right.......Everyone have a beautiful , blessed day!

This is Beauty , our new rabbit, black beauty is her name, just got her yesterday....I know I should have waited to breed her, but couldn't find anything on how long you need to wait when you first get a doe rabbit, So I bred her to Moe, lionhead buck who has Siamese coloring.

Here is my youngest daughters baby bunnies, they are approximately about 3 weeks old...Daddy was Moe, thinking about keeping one of the calicos...she had a total of 7 , we lost one this past week, it was so tiny.....

Some of the baby chicks that I am keeping back as of right now, might rehome a few once they are grown or put in the freezer depending on what they are.....there is Columbian bantam cochins, and some out of my Blue/Splash bantam cochin pen, a couple of EE for my youngest and a few egg layers in there as well....and two buff bantam cochins.
I have turned the heat lamp off during these very warm days, some are almost feathered out and ready to move them out of where I got them at , as soon as a pen is build, never ending project here, lol

Now on to the garden............

one of my Blackberry are blooming, I looked at the patch I usually go and pick at, and the farmer has either sprayed or mowed them down....so I will only be picking from the garden this year, I guess. The other blackberries in the garden that are big enough to bloom are beginning to bloom as well.

I rehome two of my roosters...Attitude and another one I have not named.

the last picture I have token of these two...when I took Attitude to his new owner, he bit me...I told them that I understood if they didn't want him...needless to say if he came back home he would have met the freezer.

I went to a local swap meet and looking for a barred cochin rooster...the one that I have is not fertile as of yet with his eggs from that pen so, thought I would get another one to hopefully start a buff barred project...only one of the buff hens are laying though...the other two have not yet started laying, their combs are red...my oldest has named the new barred roo Bakbak....and the youngest named the little white hen Sweetheart...she picked her and she just started talking to her...I really don't like the comb on Bakbak...but got this pair since I wanted the white hen....the person I got them off of had another barred roo with a birchen hen...would switch the roos out so I got this one.....she laid me a egg yesterday...I put in the bator to see if is fertile....hopefully this is the roo she has been running with...I forgot to ask that ...they are both fairly young...

Here are two different views from the Chocolate cochin rooster I picked up...initially went back to the person that had this roo to look at a buff roo again and then I saw him.....and thought I needed him....so I asked how they got this color and they said they didn't know I might try and breed him to some white hens to keep getting the color.....I have investigated it further and think I need black hens to put him with to keep this color...so am looking for more black hens...I have one and may put my one birchen colored hen in with him after he is out of quarantine .So will see what he produces from there....

I just had to share my new cochins...also picked up two Buff cochins chicks as well...hope they both are hens, but it would be ok if one is a hen and the other is a roo...

These are some of the egg layers I held back...I got a couple of dozen eggs from a friend of mine and kept these baby chicks back from them....a couple of them are Easter Eggers...My youngest has a Easter Egger hen and wanted me to keep these back for her....she also has a couple little banties and I got them in with a frizzle roo...got a egg from them yesterday and put it in the bator as well...

my prayers go out to all of those that are dealing with the wind damage or tornados that have happened in the last couple of days and is still happening.

I am glad it is finally here.............

We have a few rounds of frost here....I am so glad it didn't get my lilac bush or the ones I transplant....it really don't have much of a smell....but it sure is in bloom and pretty

My bed of radishes and onions....thanks to the chickens insisting on using it for a dust bath...the plants or rather seeds aren't in a line....

Soon I think we will have some wilted lettuce and onions with some radishes in it as well

I have planted a couple of strawberry plants this year so far...got to get the radishes out of the bed
so I can plant some more of them...

Finally got something in the sink...its called an ice plant....My oldest said since it was a sink it needed a plate or two in it...so far I only have one plate in there...the saucer came from under the plants I bring in the house each winter...so I think that is where I will put them at ...when all the houseplants go outside...

Oldest daughter`s prom was at chateau on the lake in Branson this past weekend.. Here is the little stream going up to the entrance way...she had a magical time...some stranger seen her and asked to have a picture taken with her and then left....that was before the prom...in the picture he looks like her date....now she is trying to find him , so she can give him the copy of the picture

Yesterday, picked me a couple more grape vines, when we after we stopped by Bass Pro...hubby and the youngest just needed a owl locator to use when they go out in the woods this Saturday and try to get a turkey during youth season....one is a concord grape and the other is a red grape....
The other grape vine I planted the frost has got alittle...I scrape alittle of the compost back and it has a little nub getting ready to come up....I have been covering everything up for the most part and keeping an eye on the forecasted temps at night ...At least the new roses I have planted and the grape vine and the hosta and day lilies......I think I might have lost one of the Hosta plants but not for sure....

Here is the square foot garden bed. just onions and lettuce and radishes in here....of course since my egg layers are free-ranged...they did scratch a little in the dirt ...note the chicken wire....the radishes aren`t exactly where I planted them at.....

Frost got one of the roses I planted as well, the above picture, but as you can see it has some nubs on it....so it didn`t totally wipe it out....both of these roses are the two climbing variety I planted this year.

As you can see I finally got a kitchen sink in the garden, have been looking for one...wanted one for free , but found one at the local recycling place when my hubby took some old frigs off and yes, I did have to pay for it...but it came out of the money from the frigs....now I know what I want to plant in there , just need to find it....don`t really know what it is called...irises are gonna be planted around it except in front....I am thinking some type of ground cover....maybe my creeping thyme , in which has expanded a great deal.....

               Where else to do put a sink in the garden ,...but by the toilet of course......
              Thinking about expanding the garden some more, but probably not this year.
              back behind the toilet to the tree at least a row of blackberry briars.

   The bed I have been working on getting filled...I have laid some feed sacks down , then put a compost on top of that and of course dirt......the front two little boxes in the bed are planted with potatoes...I am tring something I seen on pinterest...where you keep putting a square of wood on top and more dirt to how high you want the planted to be...then when the potatoes are ready to dig up ...just take the squares off....or rather boards off....we will se how this works....the last time I planted potatoes ...it didn't work...so hopefully this will...I have red and white potatoes planted...

Build chicken pens , of course....The top pen is build mainly of scrap wood that my hubby picked up the other day...the smaller pieces went in the fire to keep us warm...that pen only cost was the screws...it houses my turkins....the bottom picture has trio of cochins....two of them are Columbian and the other is a birchen colored hen...that pen has two 2x 4 I had gotten and a pallet I took apart....I know the building ain`t nothing fancy and I don't say I am good at building, but I think it looks good...

Pick this up yesterday in the Big City, went out and plant them today since it is nice outside ....yes, it rained here last night...I played in the mud alittle today....later on in this post I give a pic of these planted.

Also picked up some strawberries, I got these 10% off...we went to Kmart that is closing soon and their merchandise is all on marked down...I just had to get me a plant you know ...I chose Strawberries...I do so hope they come up....I love strawberries over Angel food cake.

I also picked up a Blackberry briar....just love my blackberries......Love to pick them....by the way the wild gooseberries are starting to leaf out in this area....don`t have any gooseberries in my garden, I don't eat very many of them.....

A leaf broke off the blackberry plant so,...I planted it....hoping that it will root and produce another one so I can plant it.

Day lilies that I got yesterday planted....they was in the dark green packaging....the rose planted here in the red-white one....I think these day lilies will look good here.....

Grape vine is planted that I had gotten a few weeks ago...I hope it don't frost again...decided to stake this one....Green grapes....a 2 year old plant.....

Their is a grape vine planted here as well....It looks like it has some buds on it...the other one further down the fence row ...don't know if it made it thru the winter or not...it wasn`t very big.
I hope so, if not I don't know if I want to plant one there again or not.....

The possum that the crazy heeler killed last night, I hope this is the varmit that has gotten 2 of my chickens.....he is such a good dog...

My fist hatch of the season.........I know it isn't very many.......I only had about a dozen eggs in the bator....three of these are partridge bantam cochins.....

Here is a updated pic of baby bunnies....these are the part dwarfs, sad to say the others died...I rebred the doe back so hopefully will have some more baby bunnies next month....

Thought I would post a picture of some of the daffodils that are blooming right now...I have a few of them in bloom....

I did it...title refers to me planting roses in the garden...I planted them before our last snow...I know I should have waited....the above pic is the two variety's of climbing roses I planted...I originally wanted pink and white one , but came home with these two.

                                 I think they will work well together once they start climbing
                     a blend of colors similar to each other...........Maid of honor has some hints of
                   yellow on it............their was a couple of other climbing roses I looked at as well,
          I will wait until clearance time and see what they have left.

Can not wait until they bloom...........

This bed is where the Golden glow rose is planted.....It is going to be sunflowers, daisy's in this bed along with some black eyed susans I found last week ..just haven`t planted them yet...I am working mulching this bed before I plant them...When I planted the roses over the weekend , I put mulch around them .....so hopefully this past cold snap didn't do anything to them.....
I have been working on this bed in the morning , then in the afternoon working on the quilt block...until I get to hurting to bad and stop working on it...

I thought I might update you on the 2011 times and seasons quilt I am working on...here goes the blocks that are done...

First off ...here is October`s block...title of this block The Three Wise Guys....beading and sequins on this block...Bible verse with the block pattern..." But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle and easy to be in treated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy...James 3:17

Next is January.. I don't think I am quite done with this block, I think it needs some little grass sticking up out of the snow....Good Morning Master is the title of this block.

Next is November`s block...Come One, Come All....mice...the Bible scripture is Romans 8: 18-25
more beading and some ribbon embroidery as well

This one is September`s Block... Barnyard Adoration....

This is the block for August..." Goodnight My King...I am not really happy with one of the lions...can you guess which one?

This is the block I am working on at the moment...December`s....Holly-lu-jah....Lots of Hollies on this block...the small holly berries are done in felt....I realize I cant cut a perfect circle with these little circles of holly berries, even though I do trace the circles off the pattern...O well...in his eyes I am perfect....Yes, I am sewing each small piece on each block......a lot of work....I work on this when I have time...and there is sun...as my eyes can barely see to thread my needle ...

results...and alittle gardening

Well yesterday was the mammogram and ultra sound. First off what I went thru yesterday, then the results ...then a little gardening. can`t do with out that you know. First off, I got there and put on the little half gown and asked to go wait until they call my name for the first pictures, ( Mammogram)....there was a lot of other women there as well....I seen one come out crying , as a woman you just know what those results were...then my name was called.....they took pictures of both breasts, when the tech got to the left one, it smarted just a tat. ..( I had took a couple of advils before hand)....then off to the waiting room again...Then they the doctor needed more views of both breast...this time it really did hurt on the left one as the paddle things were clamped tighter, at least that is what I thought....I did see the previous pictures...then back to the waiting room....then my name was called and they did an ultrasound on the left ...then the doctor came and told me the results.
The right breast has some small calcifications in it and gonna need to recheck in 6 months, the right has a fibrocystic mass....You need to take 600 mg of ibuprofen, a vitamin E and a Evening primrose pill once a day...Take the ibuprofen for about 2 weeks and if the pain isn't any better go to the your provider, the pain is probably in the chest wall, has nothing to do with the breast....and where was the lump that the nurse felt at , cause he couldn't find it, go back to her and see if she can still feel it in about a couple of weeks to a month...At least it wasn`t bad on what I thought...he said the purple breast was probably poor circulation, I have never heard of poor circulation in the breast, I have seen in it feet , but not breast ( I have worked as a CNA in nursing homes).

Now on to the gardening, and little bunnies....

my cattle panel turned archway into the top half of the garden, I think it looks pretty good...now to get some climbing roses to put on each side, don't know what color of roses I want....maybe pink or white...????? am planning on building a bench or chair of some kind and putting next to the cooler...and having sunflowers, daisies and the like behind the bench.....maybe a yellow rose bush as well....

Here is one of the corners in the top part of the garden...In this area a lilac in the back, then two irises then the rose I transplanted out of the yard since the youngest keeps running into it when her and daddy are throwing the football around ( my tomboy)...then on both sides is a daylily , then in front I plant hostas......Don't know what low planting I can put in front of the hostas, maybe some marigolds or something like that......

What to do on a rainy day....plan your garden area.....or go take a few pictures outside in between the rain drops...
Here are some tulips and Daffodils coming up

that I dug up and replanted can`t wait until they start blooming!..

the start of my beaded fence....blackberry bushes will be planted along this fence....can`t wait....

just a few plants,bulbs that need to be planted soon besides the seeds....as you can see I am sooooo ready to plant....hopefully I will get some of these in the ground this weekend or sometime next week....I need to get the onions and radish seeds in the ground before the 17.

We have the two doe rabbits due this coming Monday....both have pulled some hair to make a nest for their babies, this box is the bigger one ....Red acorn...bred her to the Moe( lion head)..

This screech owl was in one of my cochin pens this past week.....I was surprised to it in the pen...was first thinking , I know I didn't put any other chickens in this pen ,...where did the extra bird come from ,......then noticed it was a owl!...I yelled get the camera, I just had to take a picture of it.

I got the date set for the diagnostic mammogram...., now I just need to get rid of this cough and poison ivy....but I am not starting to cough up some....no color really to it...but at least I am coughing some thing up finally, so hopefully the coughing will go away sometime or other...

I do not enjoy this weather that mother nature seems to think we need.....But then again I looked the other day on our little horse and he has not started shedding yet...I wonder if this is a sign of more winter weather.......

We have gotten a new member of the family....My youngest has found her a beagle pup, she has named him browser...Cricket or Trixie don't really seem to impress by this little pup. Now she thinks she needs another beagle so she can go rabbit hunting in the spring and summer months. I need to get a pic of him on here ....soon hopefully.....I have been working some in the garden as well...fixing my fence of sorts, anyway before the last snow/ice came.....Well I am gonna go for now.....

Something is Wrong.....

This will be a long post.... not my typical post about gardening or animals or anything like that, but about me and a woman health issue that I am having. I have decide to blog about it , maybe helping someone else out there .
First Off, Let me say, I do not like the weather has decided to turn colder again and we have more snow and ice on the way...I have gardening to do and eggs to hatch and it needs to start getting warmed and staying that way.............

Now on to my ordeal...I will not be posting any pictures before I begin.
It started with a couple of red marks on the side of my breast, at least that is where I think it starts. I showed them to my hubby and he told me it is probably just your bra rubbing on that area...So I tried wearing my aha bra, a sports type bra..and wore one like that for about a week, the spots faded , but was still there...I switched back to my other bras and the reds spots came back...The red spots have been there for awhile and learning to deal with it.
About 2-3 months ago I started having pain in the side of my left breast. At first I thought it maybe just the way I slept on that side or maybe I had crocheting a lot that day, but everyday...pain on the left side of the left breast, then I started having pain in my arm pit and sometimes down my arm and sometime my left hand feel like numb feeling... and sometimes it hurt to wash my hair in the shower. I like to put together puzzles in the winter time...So I have been working on putting one together for my youngest and it was hard to pick up the pieces of the puzzle...So I would stop putting the puzzle together...a hard puzzle still not done with it .
So I was thinking , maybe I need a mammogram and I remembered my mom telling me about a foundation that help women get one...So I checked it out...I know I should already had one since I am a 49 year old women, but there is something that is green ...that has been hindering that process....So I found Breast Cancer foundation of the Ozarks website and got their number and called and had them send me an application to see if I qualified .The sent me an application and I found out their are 2 types of mammograms a screening type and a diagnostic one...I thought a mammogram was a mammogram, ....
So I sent in the application and low and behold I qualify to get a mammogram.....So I got my voucher and call my doctor to get a doctor`s order for it and then scheduled the screening mammogram....The day comes and what do you know we have winter weather...so I had to call cancel and reschedule it....and pray we don't have any more winter weather on that day.
That day arrives and the pain is not that bad on that day...The pain is always there , but varies in the degree of how bad it is....So I am nervous, of course and worried. .My mom goes with me....So I check in and wait and then they call my name and my on the little half gown, then go and wait till they call my name again...my name is called and I go back there and the nurses asked me if I have been having any trouble with my breast...and I tell her and show her the red spot of the left side of the breast and then asked how long has the pain been there ...then she steps out of the room and comes back with a number and a person to contact and tells me about Show Me Healthy Women and that I need to contact that person to get a mammogram, a diagnostic mammogram at that...and that if this screening mammogram were to show anything ...I would have to come back.
I proceed to tell her that my plan was to get the screening mammogram and then it comes back abnormal then go from there....so she steps out again and comes back and then she tells me to contact my local health department...and tells me that it would be best to go thru them the Show Me Healthy Women program and she told me again that I needed a diagnostic mammogram and that they wouldn't`t do a mammogram if my breast was hurting anyway......So I proceed out and then change back into my clothes and leave......
So I tell my mom and she says you need to call them as soon as you get home...( we do not have cell phones)
So I call the first number that she gave me and leave a message, that has been a couple of weeks ago and still haven't heard anything from that person.....Next I called my local health department and left a message, they called me back...and they had heard of the Show Me Healthy Women program but didn't know all the details and she gave me the number of someone else in a different county health department that knew about it....So I called them and left a message.....they called me back.....My hubby says it sounds like you are getting the runaround.....while I was on the phone and the lady tells me about the guidelines and that I should fall into the guideline's....She also told me to contact my regular doctor and make a appointment to get a clinical exam and she couldn't under stand why they didn't go ahead and do the diagnostic mammogram.....So After I got off the phone with her, I then called my doctor and made an appointment for the following Monday.....
So all this time, I have been going to Google and putting in my symptoms and it kept bring up cancer symptoms ...one in particular ...Inflammatory Breast cancer.....So I read alittle about this cancer and it is a rare cancer and they only find it in stage 3 and their is only 4 stages...and it is a fast growing cancer ,so I went to the Show Me healthy Women website and seen what providers , since my own doctor office had no clue in what I was talking about......So I found another doctor office that I had been at and that did do the program and they have a sliding fee scale just like mine does and called them ...they are open on Saturday....it is an urgent care clinic. so I called them and they sent me an application and the nurse I spoke too said she would call me Monday and that they wound not take the clinical breast exam from somewhere else...So I waited until Monday and so I can cancel my appointment with the one I had made and waited for her to call...so She didn't`t call on Monday , so I call them back and set an appointment with them for the following Tuesday...and she said the Monday around there was hectic and that is why she didn't call.
So I got the application in the mail the same day I got a letter from the clinic from our town reminding me that I needed a pap...the last one I had one was back in 2009.....I know too long, but the green paper stuff we pass around....sometimes it just doesn't go as far....
So that Tuesday comes and I have and early appointment, first one there....at least first patient.....So I wait in the waiting room and wishing I had brought something from home to look at or to do while I wait....So I am the only one in the waiting room....The clinic is about 30-45 minutes away depending on how fast I drive the curvy road and if their is a train on the track....gotta love these curvy roads of the Ozarks.....
So I go back and the nurse takes my blood pressure....it`s alittle high ...so I show her the red spot of the side of my breast and she writes it down...then the doctor comes in , she likes to meet her patients with their clothes on first before she has them change....I think that is a good idea...and I tell her my story , of course the nurse had told her....So I change my clothes and then she comes back in and starts doing the breast exam.....starting with the left one....she finds lump....I think she said it was elongated but not for sure, just was a shock that she found a lump and I was hurting from the exam....then she said to order a mammogram and an ultrasound and asked how long has my breast been purplish in color.....I have not noticed that.....since it the color is on the underside of my breast....I am sorta of endowed in the breast department....so its hard to see under them ....not that they are big....but they aren't small either....so she does the pelvic exam and low and behold I have a yeast infection and my first round of poison ivy for the year and that just sprang up over night...besides a cold I am have been dealing with ...
So When I got home and looked at the underside of my breast using a mirror and low and behold my breast were discolored....
So that is where I am know in this story waiting for them to call to set up appointment for the mammogram and ultrasound.

Side note...Why don't every county in Missouri and every one that is low income in Missouri know about the Show Me Healthy Women program?

beginning gardening for 2014

Look what I picked up in Springfield the other day.

yes that is right daffodil bulbs on clearance, I just love to get things on clearance....will be going in my garden as soon as the ground warms up a bit hopefully they will be planted this weekend sometime or next week, as it is suppose to be really nice,

of course, I will have to let some of the snow melt away first....hopefully this week it will be gone and not come again until about Dec.....

Signs of Spring, Tulips coming up, these are some of the ones I replanted last year in the fall...the rest that are coming up is covered by the snow.....
Spring cant come soon enough for me....Have some seeds and am ready to plant!!!!

I am sorry about not posting for awhile...So let`s do an update...
First of all the Fan in our furnace went bad, the fan part...lucky it wasn`t on one of those really cold nights that we have had....We got the part ordered and the cost was very expensive , at least I thought....anyway, put the fan part in and it has worked fine until recently..it makes an awful racket now when we put the furnace above 65 when the motor kicks the fan blade on High....So we keep it below 60 degrees. The small heater we keep in the girls room, we keep one in there since it is on the North side of the house and to keep them warm went out or rather the oldest smelled it and unplug the thing and the outlet had Black on it. We had gotten a heater for the house to have on until the fan blade came in for the furnace...needless to say that heater is now in the girl`s room.

the youngest decided she wanted to have some Easter Bunnies to sell for Easter...needless to say the one rabbit we had obtained during the past summer/Fall turns out to be a buck....so Two bucks for her instead of a buck and doe....A friend of ours gave us a doe so she can have some babies, am waiting on those babies to be born now...don`t know if she was bred ...she is half Checkered giant, the buck Duke is on the small side, I think, he has some lion head in him Duke is his name...she Named the doe Red Acorn....The other buck, I guess is mine now his name is Moe....

I have lost a few hens and a couple of my ducks due to the extreme cold weather....This year I am hoping to build better housing for them. I have gotten the first egg from my layers yesterday....

Basketball season is in full swing for the youngest. The first two games were cancelled due to weather. We played Ava Victory and won, then played Thornfield and won ...then Kirbyville lost that game...We had a tournament this past week and got 4th over all...I am very proud of the girls...,but I am upset at their coach...they have had hardly no practice at all...maybe 2-3 times and that is it, the boys have had practice when the girls should have been practicing for this past tournament...We could played better , if we had the practice...Last night game we missed 17 shots in the first two quarters of the game....Two games are scheduled for next week...I know we will loose on the first game....the second game will probably be cancelled due to weather.....

Since Jan. 1 I have been wanting to plant something in the garden...I have worked on expanding the garden area...I do admit I have been working on the expanded area on those nice warm teaser days

I do have a some of the beds laid out, but and have dug up quite a few roots and raked a lot of leaves in this area....
I plan on trying something new on at least one of my raised beds this year,...square foot gardening...I have seen pictures of it on Pinterest , yes, I am on there,...so many things to look at on there.
I am planning on moving more plants as well...I am gonna try and dig up a start from the lilac bush and transplant one or two to this new area ,as well as some irises and maybe a couple of the century plants that my husband hates because the tips of that plant...he hates weed eating around the bed they are it...Hopefully I can get these things done this year and am successful at them...if it ever warms up...well enough for now, thought everyone would know what has been going on around here out in blogland...Everyone have a wonderfull day!

Yes, my hubby put a sheet on the windshield of the car and truck to prevent icing......it was covered by the snow.

If you look close, three of the ducks are there....they could stay down by the garage but choose not to....

                                 Here is some limbs down to due to the high winds we had over the weekend.
                Prayers go out to those out east where the tornados hit.

                                                          Now on to the garden!
I am planning on extending the garden up.....so I can have more beds and of course more blackberry plants.

This is the spot that some of the blackberries will have to be moved since Hubby and neighbor talked about putting a gate here....so hence the blackberries will be moved come spring.....I told hubby that their pretty much is a gate of sorts here....just remove the one post and take down barbed wire....their is already a panel there....round here the could be a gate....I have counted about 8 plants need to be moved.....the joys of transplanting.....

                                        This is some things I have done around the garden.
                                          I moved the rocks on the side and put up some landscape timbers
                              that were in my chicken house that I am in the process of tearing down, planning on building another one in the future.

I have been tearing down one of my chicken pens and then taking the boards and making something new.....a new pen.....of sorts.

using only the boards that are good, is hard to find...a lot of 2 foot boards not that many longer boards....the frame going together....

the frame is all put together...tigeress had to check it out....I almost run out of screws to put this together.....just enough to put together....yay

now putting the wire around it, one side is done.

the top is on....who should go in this new pen.....

My cochin/buff cross and her 5 babies...they are loving it outside...

These babies will hopefully be some of my layers next year...as long as they are not all roosters,lol

I have one more hen that has two babies with her as well...late hatches...they insisted that they set instead of laying any eggs, so I gave them eggs to set on and let them hatch out these babies.

I have also working on my youngest an afghan similar to the one that I made my oldest, hopefully I will get it done before Christmas and finally finished her animal quilt top...now to get the back fabric and batting so I can tie tack it...

Have been busy around here lately, volleyball games ...season is about over, ..one more game....the local fair...games...garden work....among just everyday things....

Volleyball
The oldest daughter has one more game of Volleyball....I was upset along with her at one game...she didn`t get to play at all , and it was away game...the last game she got to play and their was a c-set and she scored about 5 points for the team on both games...thru her serving the ball...very proud of her...on that game the JV won and the varsity won as well...they almost had the C-set won as well.

Local Fair
yes, our county does have a fair. It wasn`t gonna happen until a few people got together and made it happen. My oldest won the queen contest...I thought she looked good up on the stage...I know she was the only contestant in that category...but so happy she won.....so needless to say that was last weekend....We enjoyed the fair to a point....they needed more animals and their was no rides this year, in which I think hurt the fair...Friday night was cold and rainy and the big day was the demo derby in which was cold as well.

A few complaints ....they need something to bring the people in during the day on Saturday so people can enjoy the fair and the local shop....I did not see a whole of people buying anything...not that many vendors.....their was an antique tractors displayed...

this poor guy never moved....lol

A petting zoo was there , we didn`t go in at all, just to pet them was 2.00 a person and most of the animals we have....so didn`t see a need to go and pay just to pet these animals...

I did want to grab the wee little pig and carry it around inside my coat though...the oldest daughter wanted to do this as well...it just looked so cold running around the pen...........

a min horse to pet and ride ....rides were 2.00 extra if u want to ride...

Hopping it up is over the youngest daughter...her team won one game over all and almost won the last game....
on to the garden...

I plant all of these bulbs yesterday ...before the freeze we had last night...tulip and Easter Lillie bulbs I had dug up in the garden....the new roses I planted was mulched a few days ago as well...all of the cannas were dug up and put away for the winter...

When I was mulching the roses the other day I had help...the wee little kitten buttercup was helping me ...I would go to the mulch pile and get a bucket full and then take it to the garden and buttercup was in tow along with Trixie the mighty Chihuahua and Bandit the crazy heeler....When I was mulch the grapes for the winter Buttercup tried to jump and settle on the mums in the above picture that is why the they are broke down in the middle...it was nice and round before that....
My youngest also had a birthday, cant believe she is 12 already. We took cupcakes to her school on her Birthday hope fully we will be able to celebrate her birthday this weekend ,since hubby is off the whole weekend , which don't happen very often....

Well just thought I would catch up some since I haven`t post in a couple of weeks...hopefully things will slow down a bit....everyone have a blessed day and weekend!

Yes, this is a plate of biscuits and gravy......brings back memories of eating at my paternal grandparents, or for that matter my maternal grandparents as well...Eating at my grandparents was always a fun filled time...during holidays or when we was having a family get together....which sad to say don`t happen anymore....Both sets of my grandparents have passed on....I miss those dinners and breakfasts...... the food , the joking around the way families used to do, at least my family did.

I remember my grandmothers baking homemade biscuits without a recipe of any kind....I once asked for the recipe and she said she really don't have one.....since she has been gone I have come across a recipe that almost tastes as good as hers was. Everyone usually helped out in the kitchen, at least the women and grandma would be in there as well.....no body made biscuits like her.....Before she went in the nursing home and she still knew who I was ( my paternal grandmother had Alzheimer's), I asked for one of her baking pans...I am glad I asked when I did...or I wouldn`t have gotten one( paternal Grandma)....I made the biscuits in the photo above from the recipe I found similar to hers and in her pan . When the dinner was ready everyone gathered around the table and someone said grace over the meal and prayed for those that were in attendance and those that wasn`t able to make it.....then everyone grab a plate and made their way around the table of food...needless to say you got what you wanted the first time around or the wasn`t any left.....They was usually out the biscuits and the gravy as well as the potatoes ,whether it be mashed or fried.
It was the same way around the maternal grandmother`s house......I have some of her knick knacks, I had to get them at auction....bidding on them against other family and antique dealers.....But I do have a few to pass on to my girls....I lost her to due Diabetes and heart problems...
I so miss my grandparents....
