How to add Google + tab to facebook page

Did you know that you can automatically import Google+ public stream into a Facebook page? There is an application known as Google Plus Tab for Pagesthat does just that. The app can easily take any Google+ public stream and feed it into a tab on your Facebook page. Here’s how to do that:

A) Installing the app

Go to Google Plus Tab for Pages app page (opens in a new tab/window).
At the top of the page you’ll notice a blue Go to App button. Clicking that button will take you to Request Permission dialog page. Click Allow to permit Google+ to access your Facebook basic information.
Next click the Add Google + to your page. Then choose the Facebook page you want to add the tab to from the dropdown menu.
Next click the Add Google Plus Tab for Pages button to confirm you want to add the application to the chosen Facebook page. Clicking the button will take you to the page, however you won’t see the tab just yet.

b) Configuring the app settings

Click on Edit Info link under the title of your Facebook page.
Click on Apps on the left sidebar to go to apps page.
Scroll down the page and look for Google Plus Tab for Pages app. Click the Go to App link once you get there.
Under Admin Settings, select the page you want to add the app to, enter your (or anyone else’s) Google+ profile ID, enter the number of Google+ updates you want to appear in the tab at any one time, and lastly clickChange to save the settings.
Now go back to view your page and you should now see the newly added Google+ tab.
Click the tab to view your Google+ public stream. Note: Only Google+’s public stream will show up in the tab.

Your +1’s are stored in a new tab on your Google profile. You can show your +1’s tab to the world, or keep it private and just use it to personally manage the ever-expanding record of things you love around the web.

How To Download Your ENTIRE FaceBook Profile

Facebook has rolled out a slick new feature recently that they made no announcement of, and most people aren't even aware that it exists. So here's a tutorial on exactly how to download the ENTIRE contents of your FaceBook profile. It'll get everything ... all of your statuses, all comments on your statuses, all photos in your photo albums, all inbox messages (no sent-box messages though ), and so forth, all the way back to when you signed up!

As you can imagine, this can be very private, personal information, so be sure to safeguard the file once it finishes downloading if you don't want peeping eyes on it. On the other hand, FaceBook can sometimes be squirrely and you never know if they may arbitrarily decide to delete or block you out of your profile, so it's a good idea to grab it every so often, just in case.

So let's get started, first you'll need to go to your Account Settings,

Next, look down to where it says "Download Your Information" and click "Learn more"

Now, read the information on this page just so that you know, and then click on the Download button

The next screen you'll see is the following one. It's basically just another informative screen saying it'll take a while to create. Click the Download button

And another one, but this one just tells you to expect an email from FaceBook when it's all ready to download. Click OKAY

As it's being prepared for you, the following screen is what you'll see if you go back to the download page, until it's done. It took a few hours or so for me to eventually get my email notice.

All ready! Once you receive the email from FaceBook letting you know that your profile is all ready to download, The first screen you'll see after clicking your facebook profile download link is this one. You're asked to re-enter your normal facebook password to confirm that it's really you wanting to download the file. Do so and then click Continue ...just click the link in the email to begin the profile download process

Now that you've confirmed that it's really you, and that you want to download your facebook profile, you'll see this screen. It's more of the same ... and also tells you the file size. Click Download Now ...

That pops up your standard file download dialog. Choose where you want to save it, etc., and click "OK."

After it's done downloading, you'll be able to unzip the file, and it'll have a directory structure all laid out, and an index.html file. You just double-click on the index.html file to load it in your browser, and it'll essentially be a clone of your profile as of the date you downloaded it.

Things to note:

It does not "auto-update" as you enter new statuses, get comments, add pictures, etc. If you want the latest, you'll always have to go through this process again, and re-download the latest copy of your facebook profile.
It has style sheets included, but they weren't working properly for me at the time of this writing, so it looked rather plain once loaded in your browser.
Again, be sure to hide, rename, encrypt, whatever you need to do to keep this file private if you don't want anyone else seeing it's contents.
There are some things missing in the downloaded version, such as all other mailboxes besides your inbox, unfortunately. You also can't see who "liked" your comments / statuses if there are more than one, you just get the count. You also can't click on some profiles, which would be a nice thing for facebook to add to this. I'm sure there are more, but I haven't fully explored the downloaded copy yet. Still, this is a nice start and am pretty impressed / happy that facebook added this feature.

Now you'll be able to watch movies through Facebook. Yes, you have read it correct. Warner Bros is going to make some of its films on the popular social networking site. The service will initially be available in the U.S.

Facebook Credits, a virtual credit which has been mainly in social games so far, will be used for consumers to pay for the movies, said Warner Bros. According to it, this will open up a new source of revenue for the social network site.

Facebook's revenue mainly comes from online advertising. It takes 30 percent of the revenue from sales by third parties on the website using Credits.

"The Dark Knight" is the first movie available on the Warner Bros Entertainment page on Facebook. In the coming months, there will be additional titles available for rental or purchase. For 48 hours, the rentals cost 30 Facebook Credits or $3. However, can pause and restart a movie whenever they log back in.

Google Fast Flip is an online news aggregator from Google Inc. that mimics the experience of flicking through a newspaper or magazine, allowingvisual search of stories in manner similar to microfiche.It was launched in beta by Google Labs at the TechCrunch 50 conference in September 2009.

The site presents images of stories from Google's news partners, which can be clicked on to navigate to the story on the news provider's own website.Stories can be scrolled between using the mouse or cursor keys. The presentation of stories uses a similar algorithm to Google News, but stories can be ordered by publication as well as by subject. Krishna Bharat of Google News has said that "Fast Flip is mostly for longer shelf-life content, the kind of content you want to recommend to other people." Fast Flip was created after Larry Page "asked why the web was not more like a magazine, allowing users to flip from screen to screen seamlessly." Fast Flip is available on iPhone and Android mobile devices.

Users of Fast Flip are able to follow friends and topics, find new content, and to create their own customized magazines around their searches.

At launch, there were 39 mainly US-based news partners. Google says it will share the majority of revenue from contextual adverts with its news partners.

Fast Flip has been praised for allowing visual, fastand serendipitousbrowsing of news stories, but it has been criticized as being a novelty, anachronistic, as it emulates print media, limits navigation and presents few news sources, and as being more focused on the needs of publishers than of readers. Its visual search has been compared to the beta visual search of Microsoft Bing and to The Onion's microfiche iPhone app. Fast Flip has also been cited as a demonstration of Google's power in the news marketplace; by setting up another news interface that uses publishers' content without returning much value.

Google Goggles is a downloadable image recognition application created by Google Inc. It is currently found in the Google Labs as a beta version. Currently, it is used for searches based on pictures taken by handheld devices. For example taking a picture of a famous landmark would search for information about it, or taking a picture of a product's barcode will search for information on the product.

The program proposed will be capable of identifying virtually anything. Currently the system is able to identify various labels or landmarks, allowing the user to learn about such items without needing a text-based search. The system can identify barcodes that allow users to search for similar products and prices, as well as save codes for future reference, similar to the failed CueCat of the late '90s, but with more functionality.The system will also recognize printed text and using Optical character recognition (OCR) produce a text snippet, and in some cases even translate the snippet into another language.

Google's new Smartphone Nexus S launched with Gingerbread

Google has launched its new flagship Android phone the "Nexus S" made by South Korea's Samsung. The new phone is the first device to run Android 2.3, codenamed "Gingerbread".

The Nexus S will be made available in the U.S. from December 16 from Best Buy stores and from December 20 at Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy retailers in Britain, said Google Vice President of Engineering Andy Rubin. He further added that Nexus S delivers unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.

The new phone is a slab-style, 1-GHz smartphone like Samsung's popular Galaxy S line. It has 5-megapixel rear-facing and VGA front-facing cameras, 16 gigabytes of internal memory and HD video playback and 720-by-480 video capture. It works on both T-Mobile's 3G network and AT&T's 2G EDGE network.

The Nexus S spotlights key features in Google's Gingerbread OS, including support for near-field communications (NFC), built-in voice-over-IP calling, faster speed, better power management, more sensors and front-facing cameras. NFC chips store personal data that can be transmitted to readers.

Nexus S will cost $529 unlocked, or $199 with a two-year T-Mobile contract.

Will emails die soon?

According to experts, email is dying and the time is not so far when social media will replace it as the dominant form of communication not only in our individual lives but also in the world of business. Well, with the increased use of text, instant messaging, VoIP, and now microstreaming solutions like Twitter and Facebook, it seems that email is having a tough time, but does it really indicate a slow death of email?

Research firm Gartner would answer 'Yes' to the question. According to its recent prediction, social networking services, coupled with changing demographics and work styles will surpass email as the main form of communication in businesses by 2014. It says that around 20 percent of employees will switch to social networks from email as their business communications' hub. While this is just a prediction, it has got strong support from a wide range of capabilities that have emerged in communications, enabling richer interactions among people.

It's true that features of technologies like persistent chat rooms, and instant messaging offer real benefits that can't be supported by email communication. There are people who say that email was better suited to the way we used to use the Internet, logging off and on, checking our messages in bursts. Now, whether we are sitting at a desk or on a mobile phone, we are always connected. This feeling of ever connectedness that services like instant messaging, Twitter and Facebook offer can be the key factor for email losing its ground (if it ever happens).

No doubt that newer ways of communication have brought a lot of possibilities, but a new communications medium doesn't necessarily replace the old one. Although micro-blogging on platforms like Twitter and Facebook are reshaping both individual and enterprise communications, it won't put an end to email services, it doesn't need to. Today, the distinction between email and social networks is likely to be eroded with email taking on many social attributes, while social networks developing richer email capabilities. Vendors like Microsoft and IBM are going to add links to internal and external social networks from within e-mail clients and servers, making services such as contacts, calendars and tasks shareable across email and social networks.

From an enterprise perspective, email is not just a mere form of communication and collaboration; there is something more to it. Corporate email also means 'filing systems', 'corporate memory' and the likes. These are the functions we simply can't perform with tools like Facebook, Twitter, or SMS.

Consider this; email is very good at things that seem like spam: sending unsolicited and perhaps unwanted messages to people that are unknown aside from their email address. The basic protocols of store-and-forwarding of email means that email can be filtered into spam folders, but it basically has to be delivered.

At this point, it is better to get active using email and adding it to the mix when new things come along. This will surely make a strong integrated approach. Email is alive.

Access two Gmail accounts at once in the same browser

I have a couple different Gmail addresses that I use for different purposes. Historically, Google Accounts – including Gmail accounts — have only let people access one account at a time per browser, so using both accounts has been a bit inconvenient. I’ve either had to sign out and sign back in, use a second browser for my second account, or use a Chrome incognito window. And I'm not alone; lots of people have asked us for a better way to use multiple accounts at once in the same browser.
Now, you can visit google.com/accounts and click the link next to "Multiple sign-in." After you sign into your first account, you can sign in with up to two additional accounts from the new accounts menu in the upper right hand corner of Gmail, then easily toggle back and forth between them. You can even open multiple Gmail tabs — one for each of your accounts.

Please keep in mind that this is a feature for advanced users, and there are a couple things to watch out for:
1) Not all Google services support multiple account sign-in yet. For the services that don't support it (like Blogger and Picasa Web Albums), you'll be defaulted to the first account you signed in with during that browser session. So if you click a link from Gmail to Blogger, for example, you'll be logged into Blogger with the first account you signed in with, even if you clicked the link to Blogger from your second Gmail account.

2) We’re still working on making Gmail and Calendar work offline with multiple sign-in. If you rely on offline access, you probably don't want to enable this feature quite yet.

3) Multiple account sign-in only works on desktop browsers for now, so if you use Gmail on your phone's browser you won't see this option yet.

Since Google Apps customers can already sign in to their accounts at the same time as their personal Google Accounts, we won’t be adding this new feature to Google Apps until the new infrastructure is in place.

Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.

The most obvious change is that you get to the right content much faster than before because you don’t have to finish typing your full search term, or even press “search.” Another shift is that seeing results as you type helps you formulate a better search term by providing instant feedback. You can now adapt your search on the fly until the results match exactly what you want. In time, we may wonder how search ever worked in any other way.

Facebook has introduced a new location-based functionality called 'Facebook Places'. Now Facebook users will be able to add their current location to their status updates via Facebook Places.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook, highlighted the three main uses of Places, "Help you share where you are, help you find where your friends are, and discover new places around you."

You can also add places and can check-in at places. However, Facebook does not show you nearby places, but places it thinks are relevant to you.

Also photo tagging has been incorporated with Places. You can "tag" friends that are with you at a specific location. Thus, everybody doesn't have to check-in on their own. Implementation of tagging seems to be one of the best features of the platform.

The privacy controls for Places comprise of removing check-in and the "Here Now" button is activated only after you check in. You are notified when you are tagged and you can only tag your friends. You can also remove tags or turn off being tagged in Facebook Places. You also have the option to report a place on the iPhone if it's inaccurate or don't want it on the system.

Another interesting feature of Places is "Is this your business?" It allows owners to claim a business page. So, something is there for the business owners as well.

Facebook has kept developers in mind as well while creating Places. There's a Read API for reading check-ins and learning more about check-in pages. There's a Search and Write API for making check-ins and searching through them.

TCS to introduce cloud computing for SMBs

As an attempt to make the information technology services affordable for the SMBs in the country, India's leading IT company TCS is set to launch a new project, a cloud offering. The offering is expected to launch by September, writes Achalla Venugopal from WATBlog.com.

This cloud service aims to lower the cost of ownership by 35-40 percent. The traditional licensing model will be replaced by a monthly subscription model. The IT stack includes hardware, networking and software. New customers will be locked in for three years. TCS plans to focus on the domestic market with this offering first and then later expand to overseas markets too.

Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand. Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption, and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves over-the-Internet provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources.

The service is expected to be a major growth engine for TCS. It can revolutionize the way Indian SMBs do their businesses providing them the same IT infrastructure which they could otherwise not afford. This offering which has yet not been branded is also been talked about as the last big-ticket project from Ratan Tata.
