People believe that, Kokila vrat was founded by Goddess parvati. Prime deities of this vrat are Goddess Sati and God Shiva. According to kokila vrat story, when Daksha insulted Lord shiva, Sateedevi immolated herself. Before she is reincarnated as Parvati, she spent 10000 years in kokila form.

Women, who observe Kokila vrat wake up early in the morning and take bath in nearby river or water body. After bath they make an idol of Kokila with clay and worship it. They observe fast and sleep on the ground during the vrat. It is believed that, women who observe this Vrat will become Akhand Saubhagyavati and unmarried girls will get loving and caring husband.
