Court Says Game Owes Greensboro Officers $5 Million

It seems as if Game’s DVD “Stop Snitching/Stop Lying” is catching up to him, as a North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in favor of five police officers, awarding each $1 million. The officers claimed their appearance in Game’s DVD was defamation of character. The officers arrested Game just hours before his scheduled performance in Winston-Salem.

According to Fox News, Game’s entourage was confronted by mall security and later police, as the rapper was filming for the DVD in the Four Seasons Mall. ,Game was eventually arrested for criminal trespassing, communicating threats, and disorderly conduct, following repeated requests to leave the mall In 2006 the officers filed the $5 million defamation suit, alleging they were libeled, slandered and that their images were misappropriated by Game and his Black Wall Street associates.

In addition to the defamation suit, the five officers who filed the previous case also filed for $10 million in punitive damages, but that suit was rejected by the same court of appeals. “The trial court’s findings of fact were based upon competent evidence and supported its conclusions of law, which in turn supported its award of compensatory damages against Taylor,” the appeals court said in Tuesday’s ruling.

“However, the trial court’s finding regarding the aggravating factor which supported the award of punitive damages against Taylor failed to indicate that the aggravating factor was established by clear and convincing evidence.” As of now, Hien Nguyen, Matthew Brown, Ryan Childrey, Romaine Watkins, and David Gregory are all being awarded $1 million dollars each for their unauthorized and misrepresented role in the DVD.

DMX Owes $1 Million In Back Child Support / Can't Come To Europe!

DMX has been accused of owing more than $1 million in unpaid child support.

According to TMZ, Dark Man X’s ex Patricia Trejo filed the motion in L.A. Superior Court this past Thursday (Feb. 16th), though the rapper is not entirely convinced that he’s the father of her baby.

X was trying to get clearance from the court for permission to perform in Europe. Since Trejo filed the motion for payment, he may no longer be able to obtain the proper credentials to travel overseas.

You see, in paternity cases where significant child support is owed, the owing parent is prohibited from obtaining a passport without a court order -- and X wants a special dispensation.

The gravel-voiced emcee explained that he’s willing to fork over the money, but only if DNA tests prove that he’s the father.

Whitney Houston died on Saturday afternoon.

She was 48.

A rep has confirmed the news to the Associated Press.

No cause of death has been announced.

Initial reports say that she died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Houston, a six-time Grammy Award winner, was expected to make an appearance at a pre-Grammys party on Saturday night.

One of the biggest music stars of the 1980s and 1990s, Houston became one of the biggest-selling recording artists in the world before drug use and a drama-filled marriage to Bobby Brown derailed her career.

She starred in motion pictures including Waiting to Exhale and The Bodyguard.
Gifted with one of the best voices in the music industry’s history, Houston sold nearly 200 million albums worldwide, was the force behind the best-selling soundtrack in history (The Bodyguard) and the best-selling gospel album in history (The Preacher’s Wife).

She appeared to have a "dazed demeanor" and "aggressive attitude" upon leaving the location. Before she left Price's event, she joined the 'Not My Daddy' performer -- the song is nominated for Best R&B Performance at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Sun., Feb. 12 -- to sing 'Jesus Loves Me.' Houston was full of smiles and took the microphone from Price to belt out the song's lyrics.

Police in Las Vegas say rap music mogul Suge Knight was arrested a traffic warrant and a misdemeanor drug charge.

Officer Laura Meltzer says the 46-year-old former Death Row Records executive was stopped driving a black Bentley with California plates about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on a street just off Flamingo Road west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Meltzer says Knight was charged with making an unsafe lane change and possession of less than one ounce of a controlled substance and was released from jail without bail. Knight's court date wasn't immediately available.

Attorney David Chesnoff has represented Knight in previous Las Vegas cases. He's traveling and wasn't immediately available for comment.

Celebrity website TMZ first reported the arrest. It says Knight had marijuana with him when he was stopped.

Facebook "defriending" led to double murder

A Tennessee couple who "defriended" a woman on Facebook were murdered in their home by the jilted woman's father and another man, police said on Thursday.

"It's the worst thing I've ever seen," Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece said, adding he had never seen anything like it in his 27 years in law enforcement in the area. "We've had murders, but nothing like this. This is just senseless."

He said Billy Clay Payne, Jr. and Billie Jean Hayworth were killed last month after they deleted Jenelle Potter, the daughter of one of the suspects, from their "friends" list. Both were shot in the head and the man had his throat cut.

The couple's 8-month-old baby was in the mother's arms, unharmed, when the bodies were found.

Marvin Enoch "Buddy" Potter Jr., 60, and Jamie Lynn Curd, 38, were each charged on Wednesday in Mountain City in northeastern Tennessee with two counts of first-degree murder. The men were arrested on Tuesday.

The case was not the first involving violence linked to Facebook. Last year in Iowa, a woman was arrested on accusations of setting fire to a friend's garage after she was defriended on the social network site, local media reported.

In Texas, a man was accused of hitting his wife after she failed to "like" a Facebook post he wrote about the anniversary of his mother's death, according to media reports.

In the Tennessee case, Reece said a couple of harassment cases had been filed against Jenelle Potter in court over "someone blocking her or taking her off."

"Once you've crossed her, you've crossed her father too," Reece said, adding that Jenelle Potter, in her late 20s or early 30s, stays home with her parents and was constantly on Facebook.

Her father, "Buddy" Potter, will return to court next week for a bond hearing after he hires an attorney. Curd, also a second cousin of one of the victims, was appointed an attorney and bond was set at $750,000 for each murder count. His preliminary hearing will be in March.

No charges have been filed against Jenelle Potter, the sheriff said. She could not reached for comment.

Curd's attorney, R.O. Smith, an assistant public defender, said it was "safe to say there's more to it than the Facebook problem, it appears."

"I wish I could provide more of what went on, but there's needless to say a lot of rumors swirling around and nothing substantiated on the rumors," Smith said.

Judge Orders Arrest Warrant For Bow Wow

Bow Wow, 24, is set to release his seventh studio album, 'Underrated,' March 13 but he may be locked up when the project finally debuts.

The Ohio native has a warrant out for his arrest, according to TMZ. A judge in Georgia has ordered that Bow Wow be arrested on sight, due to a legal matter dating back to 2009.

The 'Sweat' creator was the subject of a $100,000 lawsuit filed in Tennessee in 2009, after he failed to pay a tour bus company a bill he owed. The company then took the case to Georgia -- where he lived at the time -- in hopes that a court near his residence would uphold the decision.

Since he never produced documents regarding the lawsuit, the tour company filed a motion to have the rapper held in contempt. As a result, a Georgia judge ordered Bow Wow's arrest. He won't be released until he delivers the proper documents.

The rapper hasn't been taken into custody yet nor has he addressed the judge's decision publicly.

Ja Rule currently sits in jail serving a two-year prison sentence on weapons and tax evasion charges. While he pays his dues for the crimes committed, the 'Always on Time' creator has managed to hit the books and earn his GED in the process.

According to the New York Daily News, the 36-year-old father of three, who went to prison in June 2011, was inspired to continue his education after speaking with Dennis Kozlowski, an inmate and former Tyco International CEO who is serving eight to 25 years for using the company's money as his own.

"I was studying for my GED and Koz came in and talked to me and said, if you need any help, let me know," the rapper revealed.

The Queens native, who has been involved in beefs with artists like 50 Cent, subsequently earned his GED and will begin college-level courses this month.

Ja Rule will release his seventh studio album, 'Pain Is Love 2,' Feb. 28. The project is the follow-up to his 2001 LP 'Pain Is Love.'

'Soul Train' host Don Cornelius dies in apparent suicide

"I am shocked and deeply saddened at the sudden passing of my friend, colleague, and business partner Don Cornelius," said Quincy Jones in a statement. "Don was a visionary pioneer and a giant in our business. Before MTV, there was Soul Train, that will be (his) great legacy. … His contributions to television, music and our culture as a whole will never be matched. My heart goes out to Don's family and loved ones."

The Rev. Al Sharpton said he was shocked and grief-stricken.

"I have known him since I was 19 years old and James Brown had me speak on Soul Train," Sharpton said in a statement from New York. "He brought soul music and dance to the world in a way that it had never been shown and he was a cultural game changer on a global level."

Cornelius developed his brainchild while working as a journalist and DJ in Chicago. Soul Train started in 1970 as a daily after-school dance show on WCIU and it was supported by such local acts as Curtis Mayfield and The Chi-Lites. The show was sponsored by Johnson Products, makers of Afro Sheen, and with owner George Johnson's help, Cornelius was able to move production to Los Angeles for the weekly syndicated show that premiered in 1971. Stations skeptical of the unproven series were won over when Gladys Knight agreed to do the pilot. Other artists were quick to jump on board.

Cornelius would host the show until 1993. The Train stayed on the tracks for another 13 years with assorted hosts. By the time he sold it to MadVision Entertainment in 2008, he had created an empire that included the Soul Train Music Awards and the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards.

The show, the longest running, first-run, nationally syndicated program in television history, was rife with iconic elements. There was the Soul Train line in which pairs of dancers popped creative dance moves and flashed outrageous fashions on their way down. The Scrabble Board gave two dancers 60 seconds to unscramble the name of a notable African-American entertainer or historical figure.

The dancers became stars in their own right and created moves such as locking, roboting and waacking (later known as voguing) that would be replicated at clubs and parties around the world. Singer Jody Watley and dance partner Jeffrey Daniels, who would become part of the hit-making trio Shalamar, got their start on the show. (Daniels' "backslide" step is credited with influencing Michael Jackson's moonwalk.) So did Rosie Perez (Pineapple Express) and Fred "Rerun" Berry (What's Happening!!).

When it was time to go, the host always reassured viewers with his signature sign-off: "And you can bet your last money, it's all gonna be a stone gas, honey! I'm Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!"

Rapper Cory Gunz Arrested on Weapons Charges

Rapper Cory Gunz was arrested in the Bronx on Saturday for carrying a loaded firearm. According to MTV News, the police detained Gunz yesterday afternoon around 2 p.m. and found the loaded gun in his backpack.

Gunz, who was featured in Lil Wayne’s single "6 Foot 7 Foot" and Rihanna’s "If It’s Lovin’ That You Want Part 2," signed last year to Lil Wayne’s label Young Money Entertainment. In April, he starred in Son of a Gun, a reality series on MTV that chronicled his rise in the music industry.
The 24-year-old’s father, rapper Peter Gunz, is claiming that the arrest came about as the result of an illegal search.

"I spoke to the arresting officer, and so far, what I’m hearing from him is that they got a phone call at the station saying they should ‘look out’," Peter Gunz told MTV News. "According to [the officer], they didn’t know he was Cory Gunz. They just saw a bunch of kids following him around."
The younger Gunz is currently being held in Central Booking in the Bronx. He has no prior criminal record, but New York law mandates a prison sentence of three and a half years for illegal possession of a loaded weapon.

Amber Rose may be in a new relationship with rapper Wiz Khalifa but the saga still continues with her ex-boyfriend Kanye West. News comes from her former publicist that she was stealing money from the G.O.O.D. Music founder.

The Philadelphia native plotted to steal West's funds when she traveled to Hawaii to visit the rapper-producer with her brother, according to Janero Marchand, a publicist who worked with Rose in the past.

"Amber & her brother Antonio were going to Hawaii plotting & stealing money from Kanye. I didn't want anything to do with it so YES I told Ye," Marchand wrote via Twitter Monday (Jan. 23). Marchand also revealed that Rose never gave him his 20 percent of the $100,000 she earned for appearing in West's 'Robocop' video, which has not been released.

Marchand, who heads Marchand Media Group, will be releasing a documentary on his life. The film, 'The Michael Jordan of Models: This Is Janero,' drops Feb. 2012.

Rose, who recently released a new song titled 'Fame' featuring Wiz, made headlines earlier this month for referring to Kim Kardashian -- the woman she says came between her and Kanye West -- as a "homewrecker." According to the Daily Mail, the singer and actress has burned through her entire fortune and must now depend on her label, Arista, to keep her afloat.

As Nicki Minaj prepares to release her sophomore album, 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,' she's also putting on her acting hat. The Trinidad-born, Queens-bred MC revealed the news to her Twitter followers Tuesday morning (Jan. 24) that she would be starring in a new film.
