Day)

How long has it been y'all? TOO LONG! Sorry for not puttin' up as many Beats of the Day like we used to, BUT, today I'm bringin' you one I like to listen to every now and then. So everybody knows "Illmatic" right? Nas' 1994 stunning debut album... well on that album, DJ Premier produced a song called "Represent." Now, that beat is amazing, one of the best off the album, but a few years ago, DJ Premier released an album of unheard beats/instrumentals called "Beats that Collected Dust, Vol. 1" that he decided to uncover and put out on a beat tape. The last track on that album is one that is interesting... the ORIGINAL instrumental for "Represent." So below, you can check out the original, and then the one that was used on the album right after it. YOU let us know which one you like overall and which one YOU think is better! Peacee.
What's going on y'all? It's been a while since we had a beat tape as Hip Hop Album of the Week, but this week, the winner of the top spot on the Hip Hop Speakeasy goes to Blazo and his latest album, "Reflections." This album is pure quality beats, inspired by the one and only Nujabes. The songs all feature some nice piano and some jazz elements. Each tracks takes your mind on a peaceful journey through sound; it is quite an experience. Overall the album is top quality, and showcases some great beats if you're looking for any. My personal favorite is "Heartbeat (feat. Nieve)" so you should definitely check that out. By the way, don't forget to check out Blazo's other stuff on his BandCamp. So, my rating...
-

9/10

-

I recommend this album to any fan of trip hop and artists such as Nujabes and Emancipator.

This is Asher's SECOND time being on the Hip Hop Speakeasy as the Mixtape of the Month, but y'all, this album is GOLDEN. This is even arguably better than the other mixtape we posted, "Seared Fois Gras with Quince and Cranberry!" As you can tell by the title, the album is very jazzy and Asher Roth continues with that laid back kind of style he's had in recent years. His rhymes are priceless, very witty and smart. He's got great features like Action Bronson and Pac Div. The production is also fantastic with very exotic and mellow, jazzy beats, and since it's free, everybody reading this should DOWNLOAD IT! Hopefully we can see this kind of music on Asher's sophomore album "Is This Too Orange?" coming out in 2012.

*If you caught my post earlier before, IGNORE THAT, 'cause here's some REAL hip hop! Will Sessions, the masterminds behind the instrumental remakes of Nas' 1994 classic "Illmatic" for eLZhi's "Elmatic," brings you this LP of LIVE INSTRUMENTATION. Using an MPC, drums, keyboards, guitars and almost any other instrument you can think of... Will Sessions put together this 2-sided LP featuring 2 tracks: Side A - Take One, Side B - Take Two. Now you may be thinking, Stone, 2 tracks!? But check this, it's all live and it's a bunch of different tracks seamlessly meshed together to make two really long tracks. Now these aren't original songs, but Will Sessions did what they seem to do best and recreated dope songs from J Dilla beats to the jazzy classics of Herbie Hancock. The album is amazing and is accompanied by two live performance videos! As of right now, the album of is only available on wax, BUT I'm sure if we ask nicely enough, Will Sessions will consider releasing it more commercially. So, my rating...
-

10/10

-
I recommend this album for any jazz fans, instrumental/beat tape fans, and anybody who likes live instrumentation.
Hello there, World. Today I'm bringing some exciting news to any fan of Ta-Ku, or beat tapes in general. I've been a fan of Ta-Ku for a while now; he's just one amazing beat-maker (definitely slept on in my opinion - this guy deserves way more credit than he gets). Recently he released 50 beats on his SoundCloud dedicated to the late great James Yancey, a.k.a. J Dilla, titled "50 Days for Dilla." This is a crazy mix, so I suggest you go and check it out... but for the real purpose of this post... Ta-Ku has been so kind as to give back to his fans and give out his music for FREE! That's 11 beat tapes, albums, singles and more FOR FREE! I think we should all give Ta-Ku a big thank you by DOWNLOADING his stuff off of his Bandcamp, and by sharing the news and getting Ta-Ku even more love and support! Check out all the material below and spread the word! Thanks Ta-Ku! (Click the pictures to listen/download out the album).
Ay everybody. T.G.I.F. right? To kick off this weekend, we are lettin' you guys in on this album. This one is brought to you by elhuana, a hip hop producer out of Poland. This guy's got raw stuff, and when I mean raw, I mean RAW... like straight off the cassette. He's got such a nitty-gritty, vintage sound, it sounds like these beats were made with age-old technology back in the day. Actually, elhuana credits his beats to being made almost solely with a Roland sampler. Every beat is rugged, with vinyl static in almost, if not every song. The album features rappers out of the U.S. but there is also an instrumental album you can get too. PLEASE donate some money as all of the money goes to charity for deaf-blind kids! While you're checking out this album, please check out elhuana's other material! He's got great stuff - even a new release. Check out the full-album stream below. Peace.
Gotta' love this one. Our man SciFi Stu produced this joint for rapper Dillon Maurer a little bit ago, but I love it, so I'm lettin' y'all in on one pretty dope gem. It's got a nice homemade video to go along with it. SciFi on the beat, Dillon on the bars... doesn't get much better than that. Before you go, though, don't forget to check out SciFi Stu's music on SoundCloud, DigiCrates.com, iTunes and most importantly, his Website. Aight y'all, this week we got one great hip hop album by JR & PH7. I knew this duo from hearin' their last album "The Update" and honestly, I like what I hear. Especially great beats and production value, coupled with fantastic lyricists creates one dope album. I feel a little iffy in goin' as far as comparin' these guys to Slum Village, but I can't help but think of SV whenever a track by JR & PH7 comes on. They are a great combo, and featuring Brokn Englsh and St. Joe Louis on the record just complete this album and make it one EP you gotta have. So, my rating...
-

8.5/10

-

I recommend this album to any fan of that early-2000s Midwest-style, mellow hip hop.

How you guys doin'? Listen to this - this album came out this past Saturday (January 7th) but it was a music submission and I didn't want to wait for the Hip Hop Album of the Week to come, so I'm givin' it to y'all now. Kinack is a Colorado-based Trip Hop musician. What is Trip Hop you may ask? Well it's like Hip Hop combined with electronica, until both genres mesh and neither are distinguishable. Then add a lot of ambient sounds and such and you got Trip Hop. Personally, I love the genre; it's very chill and very laid-back. Very peaceful stuff. Anyways, Kinack is one talented artist. He cites his inspirations from Emancipator (who we posted about a while back - read that post HERE), Quantic, Bonobo, Nujabes, Massive Attack, and Thievery Corporation, just to name a few. You can definitely hear some of his inspirations becoming tried and true in music, yet he has his own unique sound that is very pleasing to listen to. He has a lot of piano and a lot of instruments combined to make one vast music creation. Overall, if you like chill music, you need to get this album. You can download this at his Bandcamp!
Below is a track titled "Nym" that Kinack personally cited as his favorite off the album.

Now, if you are reading this you probably know who J Dilla is, if you know who J Dilla is you probably know who ?uestlove is, if you know who ?uestlove is you probably know who Mos Def and Talib Kweli are, if you know who they are you probably know that they form a group that goes by the name of Blackstar, and if you know that you probably have heard of their song "Little Brother" which was produced by non-other then J Dilla himself (if you dont know one or more of the names i mentioned, have no fear. For you have come to the right place). The video I have here is the story of how J Dilla put together the beat. So..... Check it out.
Aight y'all, this one was a music submission from our friends over at Cult Classic Records, but since it came out Monday, we will count it as a late Hip Hop Album of the Week since there wasn't one for this week. Now for the review... This album is truly an experience. "Soul Below" is the debut instrumental album by a guy by the name of LJones. He was featured on another Cult Classic Record we posted a while back (check that out HERE), and I loved his song on that compilation. Now, he's got his solo project, and I'm really lovin' it. He's got a very jazzy sound... a VERY jazzy sound. Citing his influences as instrumental artists such as Nujabes, you know he's gotta be good. He hails from Toronto, Canada and wants the world to hear his music. He's got a very unique touch, too which makes his music even more enjoyable. Overall, the album the album is quite the journey and is definitely one to relax to on one of those rainy Sundays, or even on a weeknight; just chill and vibe. So, my rating...

-

9/10

-

I recommend this album to any fan of jazzy hip hop, or hip hop beat tapes in general.

Rhymesayers artist Brother Ali came out with a song called "Writer's Block" produced by Jake One. The song is from Ali's upcoming album "Mourning In America and Dreaming in Color." The song has some deep meaning, and classic flow from Brother Ali. A great rapper paired with a great producer; nothin' much more needs to be said. Dope video. Check it out.
ENOUGH SLEEPING! This dude is a TEENAGER (15 I think) and makes beats comparable to Madlib, Flying Lotus and Samiyam! When I first heard Munoz through his YouTube, I was buggin'! I started listening to all of his stuff and people, I'm telling you, if you like MADLIB, FLYING LOTUS, and/or SAMIYAM, then you'll definitely dig this kid! He has the craziest samples, from old records to vintage video games sounds. He's also done some unofficial remixes of a few songs, but his beats are GENIUS. I haven't been this hype for a producer in so long, and now, I'm sharin' the knowledge with all of you. Below is the FREE DOWNLOAD link for his album "Hip Hop's Best Kept Secret" which is a compilation of his beats, a sort of greatest hits, if you will. It was sent to Hip Hop Hypedog, so shout out to them for the original post. So enjoy, and get a taste for the amazing Munoz, and when your finished, check out his YouTube account HERE.

A little bit ago, we brought you the sad news of legendary hip hop artist Heavy D's death (read that post HERE). Today we have discovered the answer to this unexpected loss. As it turns out, Heavy D was on a rather long flight from Europe to Los Angeles after seeing a Michael Jackson memorial concert. From sitting so long, and other possible health issues, Heavy D formed a clot in his leg that traveled to his lung causing a pulmonary embolism. It is cited that Heavy D died of "natural causes." To read the article we read, click the link below:
Aight y'all, this week, the winner of the Hip Hop Album of the Week was not that much of a challenge considering this was one of the only hip hop albums to come out today. But don't think that this was a gimme, because this album goes hard. Casual is a rapper and member of alternative hip hop group Hieroglyphics out of Oakland, California. From Casual's early beginnings with Hieroglyphics, alongside other rappers like Del tha Funkee Homosapien, to going solo and becoming one very popular underground hip hop artist, Casual has been owning mics for almost two decades. Although this album has a very contemporary production style as compared to his older alternative production sound, his lyrics are true; he makes it known that almost twenty years later, he is still an O.G. The album takes a little insight in Casual's life as an artist, which is interesting to listen to. The album isn't amazing, but it is definitely a great hip hop album. So, my rating...
-

7/10

-

I recommend this album to any fan of Hieroglyphics, and/or alternative hip hop.

What's going on everybody? This is an article I read from Birthplace Magazine - a website dedicated to New York City hip hop - about how New York Hip Hop isn't REAL hip hop! Crazy? You may think so, but you gotta' check out this article. Below you will find quotes from the article, and instead of giving my opinion on it, I will let you be the judge. Leave a comment below to share what you think. Shout out to the author, Manny Faces and birthplacemag.com for the post!
-

"Instead, they grumble about the current style and substance of mainstream hip hop..."

"Saying you want "real hip hop" back, is stupid. There is no "real" hip hop."

How could you expect this album NOT to make it onto The Hip Hop Speakeasy? The Legendary Chicago rapper, Common dropped his ninth studio album today entitled "The Dreamer / The Believer" produced entirely by long-time collaborating producer, No I.D. Since it was Common, personally, I was expecting big things; overall, I feel he delivered. The opening track on the album is phenomenal, one of my favorites. Of course the singles, "Ghetto Dreams (feat. Nas)", "Blue Sky", "Sweet", and "Celebrate" (you can check out the videos for those below) are fantastic. Common hit a whole nother level with this record; the lyrics are meaningful, as always, but Common put out a very dominant presence and air of confidence on this record that I haven't really heard from Common. It's a new sound, but it is fantastic. Personally, I feel the album was very strong in the beginning and was OK as it went on, however, the album definitely displayed Common as the great rapper that he is. The album is great and a Common classic. This album should definitely go up there with "Be" and "Like Water for Chocolate." So, my rating...
-

9.5/10

I recommend this album to any fan of Chicago hip hop, or conscious hip hop.

Tucked away in the Bronx
somewhere near <st1:street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">University Avenue</st1:address></st1:street>
, it seems trouble brews on the rap horizon. That trouble is named Moe
Millionz. A proud, boastful artists with punch lines for days looms for
an takeover. F.Y.I. its called the ‘Moe
Millionz Project’

The protocol and security was tight when I arrived.
Picture an unsigned rapper with goons, surveillance cameras and ‘trap
doors’ greeting visitors. Its weird. Imagine walking through an half empty
Beauty Salon, only to discover blank stares along with language barriers. An
awkward pause. Feeling the tension inside the room, I politely asked for “Moe
Millionz”.

More tension and hard stares. The women rolled their
eyes at me. Some burly man pointed towards the back steps. Following his
directions led me to another ‘trap door’ where music could be heard beyond the
threshold. The sound was low but intense. The ’old school’ drum pattern
knocking in sync with my heartbeat. I knocked on the door then waited for a
reply. No answer. Just the music continuing. I knocked again. Still, no answer.
Then suddenly, the door was buzzed open and I stepped inside the dangerous
looking trap door. Right before my eyes stood Moe Millionz giving directions to
his producer JuJu of Just Amazing Music. Figuring I’d get my interview and
leave without getting settled into the studio session, I usually set aside one
hour on my schedule. Wrong. Three hours later I could recite the whole process
of watching Moe Millionz record songs in
clips of ’five’. It was simply amazing.

Collaborators
sum it up as follows: “Jumping in and out the booth, barking orders on tracks,
being aggressive with his music is the norm…but either way its hot” according
to longtime producer JuJu. I agreed. Moe can be meticulous about beats, lyrics,
the studio lighting etc etc. But after the ‘close encounter’, the picture gets
clearer and clearer. Moe is the real deal. He’s ready. The closest description
is this: “Moe Millionz is the type that can start rapping on Wall Street and
draw a crowd.” said manager Warren ‘Woo’ Miles. So
secretly I wondered to myself…Why No Mix Tape? The god MC kinda read my mind
stating

“ I know people been waiting since the summer for my
Mix Tape” continuing “I’m getting it ready now” said Moe Millionz.

The delay in releasing his Mix Tape is unknown. I
probed him for answers but Moe remained quiet about the delay, instead choosing
to speak around the subject. Whatever happened, Moe Millionz soon left stranded
as an solo artist. He had plenty of street buzz but became frustrated with no
product. Speaking from experience, “Battles cannot pay the bills, so I just got
focused on my goals and stopped waiting for people” said Moe Millionz.

Last Summer
rekindled the burning flame inside Moe Millionz to pick up the mic again.
Rumors spread.

The neighborhood teenager recalls it vividly: “The
park was packed. Moe Millionz stepped to the mic and ripped some unknown rapper
to shreds. The kid got mad, gassed his boys up and started acting tough. Long
story short, you cannot violate Moe Millionz. The boy is nice. Period. Point
blank.” Verbatim. Instantly I was astonished because “I heard the exact same
story.” Wow. But really…who cares? Nobody knows about Moe Millionz except for
the Bronx. Wrong. Lately, Moe Millionz has
been touring the East Coast with stops in Virginia,
Pennsylvania, New Jersey
and Maryland.
Opening up for such acts like Black Rob, Mims and Method Man.

Hot lyrics, Charisma and Energetic stage presence won
Moe Millionz followers from state to state. The upcoming artists even signed an
undisclosed deal with Team 28 marketing
company which promises placement in Commercials and Print Ads adding to
Moe’s visibility. All is well for the humble Moe Millionz. Speaking on behalf
of Team 28, Vice President Frank Jacobs stated “We heard about Moe Millionz
through the grapevine and grabbed him early in his career quite confident he‘s
destined for the stars. Wait. You‘ll see.”

Besides the street hype, promotional tours and
marketing concepts, what could be NEXT for Moe Millionz. “I just want to be
heard. Besides that, mostly respected. By everybody. Known for good music. Buy
it. Listen. Have fun.” said Moe Millionz. Spoken like a true politician
which explains the delay on the goods. The Mix Tape. Win, lose or draw Moe
Millionz has my endorsement. Check for the hot singles

“Stepped In”
and “Round the Clock”. Most of all, Remember I told you First.

How's it goin' y'all? Tonight I'm bringing you the Mixtape of the Month for December 2011. I'ma call this one a mixtape because it's a mix of songs given out for free by Never Enough Rhodes, so it works. PLUS IT IS ONE OF THE MOST DOPE MIXES I'VE EVER HEARD! It is more Jazzy then Hip Hop, but most of em, if not all of em got beats to em, so, if anything, this is a Beat Mixtape. It's a very eclectic mix, with a bunch of different artists such as Alan Tew, Duncan Lamont, and more! Every song is impressive and is definitely one for those jazzy-hip/hop lovers. Get a free listen to some of the songs and a great review of the album by the creator of the mix himself HERE! Download it for free below, and don't forget to give a shout out to Never Enough Rhodes for the mix! (Peace Brother!)
Mello Music Group rapper yU dropped his album "The Earn" today. yU comes from hip hop group Diamond District, and in recent years, has pursued a successful solo career. With this album, yU has given listeners a look into his thoughts and concerns. From political to personal, yU spills it all out with his pen. His flow is smooth and heart-felt; he's comparable to the likings of Blu. He's got a nice, fresh underground hip hop sound, rappin over soulful and jazzy beats, and this album is definitely one for the books. So, my rating...
-

9/10

-

I recommend this album to any fan of alternative-underground/hip hop and artists such as Blu and Mos Def.

-

To purchase this album, visit iTunes or Amazon.com.

-

Tracklisting:

1) Flipping Channels

2) First

3) Bonafide Overdue

4) If U Down

5) Time Machine

6) Write On

7) Even If

8) The Earn

9) Money (The Ahh Yeah)

10) End of an Era

11) I Believe

12) Blind

13) Delay (feat. I'm bringing it to your attention as a Slept On album, because even I slept on it. Willie Evans Jr. is a producer and rapper who, over the summer, dropped his debut album "Introducin'". It is the DOPEST. He's got a voice like MF DOOM and a nice 90s sound, with dope samples, dope rhymes and just an overall fantastic production. Don't sleep on this guy, he's great and I can already feel the anxiety building up waiting for his next album! Buy the album, support the artist!
-

10/10

-

~eLL. & Stone~
