width="239" />Pretty much everyone I know that is around my age grew up with Harry Potter. I know that the novels are supposed to start out in the '80s, but Harry, Ron, and Hermione were of age with me when the books came out. Because of the age factor, it felt like I could've gone to Hogwarts and befriended the three characters.

So, when I heard Universal Studios was going to be home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I knew that I MUST make a, well, a pilgrimage. This year, I completed my journey and my parents and I went to Harry Potter World in March during my spring break (unfortunately I went before the new portion, Diagon Alley opened, though it might be fortunately because that means I just have to go back).

We left our home on a Sunday and had tickets for the Universal parks Monday through Wednesday. With our ticket package we were able to "park jump" from Islands of Adventures to Universal Studios. We also had fast passes and a special breakfast at The Three Broom Sticks.

Monday.

Harry Freaking Potter all day. Well, really from like 9am-2pm due to rain, but still ALL DAY! As I previously mentioned, my parents and I had a breakfast at The Three Broomsticks. My parents both had the full English breakfast and I had the American breakfast (due to not wanting blood sausage...because I know what's in it). Now, a brief mention that I will be posting most of the photos from this trip in a slide show down below, so check that out, it's fun.

We continued our foray into this amazing place by going up to Hogwarts. Inside Hogwarts you follow a winding queue that shows off some of the more important parts of the castle, like the entrance to Dumbledore's office, the talking portraits, and of course the Fat Lady portrait that serves as entrance to the Griffindore common room. You eventually make it to a classroom where Harry, Ron, and Hermione speak to you and their portion ends with telling you that they are going to sneak you out of the castle on broomsticks. And now it's time for the ride.

The ride isn't really a roller coaster, but none-the-less, I'm not a huge ride person. I went on this one though. My eyes might have been shut during most of it, but I can say I rode it and didn't die...or get sick..mostly. I was warned by my friend Patrick that the screens used in the ride made him a bit queasy, and the same happened to me. Once I realized I was secure in the seat and wasn't going to fall out, I opened my eyes just to get nauseated by the screens. Whomp.

After Hogwarts, my parents and I enjoyed butterbeer and a did a bit of shopping. Purchases included, chocolate frogs and other sweets from Honeydukes, and a Hermione wand for me. The day ended with us barely making it to a taxi before the sky opened up.

Tuesday.

After spending the previous day in Islands of Adventures, we decided to hit up the Universal Studios side. Over here there were more attractions my dad can enjoy, since he cannot really go on many rides due to a heart condition. We started off with the I Love Lucy museum because my mom is the I in I Love Lucy.

Then we went to two shows. The first was a 3D/live action terminator show. It was pretty cool and at one point fog enveloped the entire audience, which was very unexpected. The second show was horror movie make-up. It was quite cheesy, but also informative and funny. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't like cheese? Speaking of cheese, between the shows we ate at Mel's Diner.

After the shows we went on the new Transformers ride. My mom and I convinced my dad to go on this with us, which in the end wasn't the best idea. He hates spinning and this ride had a good bit of spinning involved. Then we made our way through Krusty Land and ended up on the Men In Black Ride. My mom will be proud of me for admitting this, but she beat me in score on this ride. I still and will always maintain that my gun was broken. The last ride we went on was Disaster!, which puts you into a film. It was long, kind of boring, but at the same time a lot of fun.

Wednesday.

Well, since every other day was pretty long, good thing this one is short. We pretty much did nothing due to my mom's knee hurting, my dad not wanting to go back to the park, and me just saying "fine". I did however beat my dad mercilessly at air hockey.

And well, that was my amazing spring break! I hope you enjoyed my rather lengthy reliving.

Let Me (Re)Introduce Myself

Oh, hello!

My name is Jessica and I used to blog here. Space Jam is just the best.

So, over the next few posts I'm going to attempt to relive my last two years. Be warned...it's going to be about five sentences detailing two years ago until March and then some fun posts because I finally did some super fun things.

This post is just to get you amped up and to do that I'm going to share with you something I've done over the past two year: grow out my hair. For a very long time my hair hovered right below my shoulders and I kept it that way. But, over these "missing years" I just let my hair grow.

About two-ish weeks ago I decided it was time to cut it. I had enough length to donate my hair to Locks of Love and summer is coming and it is already been brutally hot and humid here in Georgia. So, my hair stylist, Laura, put my hair into small pony tails and let the random customers in her shop cut my hair right above the elastic.

I'm not sure exactly how much hair I cut off, but I have a photo of it. I kind of feel like a creep posting a photo of hair that is no longer on my head. I mean, hair is just dead cells anyways..so now they're extra dead cells? I don't know, I just feel creepy.

So, that was my triumphant return. Extra dead cells. Well, then again if you've read this blog previously, you shouldn't have expected much more than this. I'm hoping to get multiple posts out a week, but no promises. I'm done with promises, especially since most of my previous posts begin with an apology for not posting when I said I would.

I hope you'll join me for the next bit of my life and as I will come to tell you over the next few posts, it should be a pretty exciting ride!

Jessica

Gone A While

I've been gone for a while. I've been down for a while. I've been sleeping at odd times for a while. That's what I've been doing. Right now I should be with some of my best friends in Alabama at Hang Out Fest, but due to the massive expense I'm not - and really thank goodness because it's my lady time and I would've felt horrible. Overshare? Oh well, you've been warned before that I share it all.

Let's see, what have I been up to since, dear goodness, April 3rd. Well, I've been watching episodes of Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Would I Lie to You, and I finally started How I Met Your Mother. I've spent a plethora of time watching YouTube videos and crocheting random things.

I also have been attending family dinner nights at Bill's (where I was introduced to a game called League of Legends). LoL is an online multiplayer game that's kind of a mix between tower defense and any kind of kill your enemy game. It's hard to explain unless you see it, but it's fun.

I went to Virginia for my cousin's wedding about a month ago. It was in Reston, very close to Washington DC. I was a reader in the wedding and was invited to the rehearsal dinner - this is the first wedding I've actually had a part in (woop). Everything was lovely and fun and delicious. After the wedding my family and I spent a few days back in Chesapeake with our family.

And really that's all I've been doing....and now I'm going to go watch some SVU (because really who doesn't get sucked into a marathon)

Sorry I'm Not Sorry

Hello and welcome to Jessica says she's sorry for the millionth time EXCEPT this time she's sorry she's not sorry (phrase courtesy of Kelly Hayes).

It's been a rocky couple of weeks and as I explained last time they always kind of are. Do you have something that when you think about it or talk about it you start to tear up or even just cry? Well, my hip is that thing.

Last time I went to see a psychologist I had to give her my entire background aka my hip story and I just cried. I mean ugly cry with snot and doing that heavy gasping thing that you'd think help you get more air into your lungs, but in reality it just makes everything worse. Oh, I also turn extremely red when I cry (or sweat or laugh or whatever), but basically it looked like I was dying. And before I had to move home and stopped going we decided to try and figure out why I autocry with the hip. I mean, it might be obvious since it was a traumatizing event, but so was my mom's cancer or my dad's heart surgery or plenty of other things and I don't go into a ridiculous ugly cry fit that would scare Mussolini (yeah, Hitler always gets the credit, but Mussolini was a bad guy too).

So, I'm not sorry that I haven't updated. Plus, the updates you would've gotten were like "Fucking JoAnn is still out of the yarn I need to finish my blanket..so I started another one" or "I pooped too many times today".

But, I plan to start updating more. Mostly because I miss it and partly because I need to get a schedule and climb out of my Gilmore Girl's Luke-esque dark days.

I think the thing that's really going to get me going is the fact that I won a fabulous craft pack giveaway from Jamie at Scissors and Steam! I want to be the best winner ever and try and do something with everything in the prize pack. Now, I already have a plan for the embroidery hoop and thread...and let me tell you it's cross stitch..but not your grandma's "Home is Where the Heart is" kind of cross stitch. So, stay tuned for that (plus it's my first time doing cross stitch). If you click on the words "craft pack giveaway" it'll take you to the page that shows what I won. Any ideas for the rest?

I also need to lose weight because I gained weight. I'm not going to say how much because I'm really sad about it since I worked so hard to lose it.

I guess that's all I have for you? Oh, also that bumper sticker photo is because I LOL'd when I saw it. This is the second bumper sticker I've seen outside of Waffle House that was just awesome (see Dragon Sticker).

Hokay. I don't really remember much of the hospital, but I do remember the days leading up to my first surgery and the week or so after it when I was home. So, I always just get sort of down for a few weeks around this time.

I mean, I'm happy that I'm alive and all, but it still is just a "why me" sort of moment that most people who have had an illness go through. I guess I just still blame the doctors for not catching it and I still wonder how different my life would be right now (I sure as hell wouldn't have this sweet cyborg hip though).

I've also not done much since then - just the usual Thursday dinner and getting my nails did with Haley, but the pollen here is so ridiculous that going outside is like a sinus death sentence. On Tuesday the weather people said that the pollen count was OVER 9000!!!!! (that's a meme...). Yeah, well the pollen is keeping me from reading on my porch and from wanting to touch my car. I drive a black car, but it's now yellow. It's gross.

Hopefully once the pollen clears up (soon, please) I'll be learning to ride a bike! Hoorah for crossing things off of my robo hip bucket list! I also get to fight for classes on March 30th - and I will win.

I'm going to update again soon...Promise (I always promise don't I?). Maybe this weekend I'll get drunk with green things and have something exciting to share...but probably not.

Jessica

Scandalous 2.5 Robo Bucket List Check Off

Oh hello there!

So, I promise I have a reason for not posting in 8 days. I had a big Saturday and yes I realize that it is now Thursday and that it didn't take me this long to recover, but I'm going to pretend because I'm still not sleeping well.

Believe me today's post is totally worth the wait! Why? Well I'll freaking tell you why:

I get to check 2.5 things off my Robo Hip Bucket List!!!!

Yes that is correct, 2.5 things all done in one day! At first I thought it was just 1.5, but the other 1 slipped right in.

The first thing - ok, half a thing - I get to check off is the second half of #40: Go to a farmers or flea market! On Saturday afternoon I met up with Sarah for a bit of antiquing. We ended up in the older section of Roswell that has a bunch of eclectic stores, one of which is The Canton Street Flea Market (BOOM, Flea Market).

Now you may thing "Hey that's not a real flea market! It's a store!". Well friends, you are wrong. Inside this store is I want to say 150 different stalls from different sellers. Each stall had their own little niche, from sterling silver earrings, to old toys, to player pianos! While I didn't end up buying anything, Sarah got three books - one of which was a book about Madame Curie in French..because Sarah speaks French.

After shopping we walked a few blocks to eat at a restaurant named The Fickle Pickle. Yes, that may be the best restaurant name ever. Sarah told me that there was a huge pickle out front and she didn't lie! We ended up sharing an order of fried pickles (if you haven't had these please find/make them) and I had a fried green tomato burger. It was delicious and filling and yum.

When my foray into flea markets and pickles with Sarah was over, I headed down to Bill's apartment. From there we headed over to The Buckhead Theatre to see a concert in which Kelly's a capella group was joining one of the bands. Yup, this is the second thing on my list, #4: go to a concert.

Normally I wouldn't count Kelly's a capella concerts as one to check this off (mostly because I'm seated the whole time and I just I don't know...don't be mad Kelly I love you), but this concert featured 3 different bluegrass-y bands. The a capella group, Nothin' But Treble, joined the headline, Seven Handle Circus, on stage for a few of the songs and the girls of the group (and the boys of SHC) blew the room off of the venue. Sorry for the blurry photo, but we were further back in the crowd. I have a video of them singing, but I need to make sure the pure awesomeness didn't overload my iPhone microphone before I upload it for you all.

When the concert ended, the boys announced that we were all invited to Peachtree Tavern (P. Tav) for their after party. And this is where my last check off comes, #33: go to the bars. I have been to the bars downtown since making the list, but being the DD I didn't count it as a reason to cross it off the list. While at the bar I enjoyed a beer, two rum and cokes, and during last call Kelly, Bethany, and I enjoy a shot. That's more than I've had to drink in a while and I was definitely feeling tipsy after the shot.

But, before this shot happened another new experience happened in the life of Jessica. Out of no where a guy came over and pulled me up onto the dance floor. I am...awkward...very awkward. In fact, sometimes my friends rate my social interactions by how awkward I am. Well point being I danced with this boy, Bret or Brent - it was loud, for a song in a way people dance in bars...which is not my usual white girl point and shimmy kind of dance. I don't mind dancing really, I mean I kick ass at Dance Central for Xbox, but I think it was the drunken strange that made me feel odd. I'll just have to find a guy friend to dance with me at a bar and see if it's different.

The last thing I did that night was enjoy a goldfish burger. Let me tell you, I've had this $3 food cart burger sober and now tipsy and it just gets better every damn time. It's a simple burger with cheese, your choice of a few toppings, and goldfish (the cracker) and it's fucking delicious, so delicious that the fucking was needed. It's just a fantastic burger, but the goldfish give it pizzaz. I'd say try to make it at home, but just adding goldfish to any burger won't do...so what I'm really saying is let's go to the bars near it and then have one. Good? Good.

Now that I've written this up, I'm going to pop over to my list and cross out those 2.5 things. I think since I'm starting to cross stuff off that you guys should suggest some more. I feel like if I try and do one thing a week it'll snap me out of my odd sleeping habits and funk.

See you and your ideas later!
Jessica

List of Oddities

Have you ever wondered: Gee I'd love to know a bit more about this odd girl who has a bionic hip and sleep problems?

Well, PROBLEM SOLVED because I'm about to tell you somethings that you might not know about me, I have no idea what I'm about to say...soooo good luck to the both of us?

1. I hate people who tailgate me. I've found myself yelling "I WILL CUT YOU" in my car when being tailgated..

2. Yesterday was the first time in years that I ate cereal with milk. It's not because I don't like cereal, it's because I'm semi-lactose intolerant and milk seems to be the main culprit. I had almond milk yesterday.

3. One of my favorite activities is watching movies with my best friends. I could do this for days on end.

4. Even though I tend to be super klutzy, I'm actually very hand eye coordinated and can kind of dance. I was the best player on my tee-ball team (and the only girl) and can beat more able bodied competitors at Dance Central (suck it Kelly).

5. I have a queen size bed, but I only sleep on one half. The other half is used for "storage" of things I use often i.e. crochet projects, books, make up, pens.

6. I'm hungry - no seriously, right now I'm hungry. Make me food?

7. I hate dark chocolate. Seriously, it's gross.

8. I have scars all over my body from surgeries and a Crohn's symptom. I used to hate them, but lately I love them and will kind of miss them if they fade.

9. I know the entire dance from the cafeteria scene in Superstar. I learned it freshman year of college when Kelly, Alexis, and I moved all our living room furniture just to learn it.

10. I have a long torso and short legs. I have to buy pants with an "s" after the size even though I'm above average height for a girl at 5'7.

Welp. That was my list. And, I'm not talking about the "oh I want to be a successful criminal profiler who helps the world and has a great family and just a happy life" kind of plans.

I mean the "when I wake up in the morning I will do xyz" type of plans. Normally at night I think: Ok, I'm finally going to fall asleep at a reasonable hour, then when I wake up I'm going to eat breakfast, workout, do blogging activities, work, eat healthy, etc.", but then I spend hours, and I mean HOURS just trying to sleep.

It's not from not being tired, because some days I'm exhausted, but I can't sleep. I just lay in bed crocheting, reading, something to try and just lead me to sleep. I've tried the get up if you can't sleep method, the nyquil yourself to sleep method, and even prescribed sleeping pills, but I always get back to this rut.

I spend my night trying to sleep and then I do sleep, poorly, or what I think is shitty sleep because a few hours after I get up I am so tired that no matter what I do I end up napping. I don't try and nap, I just do. I've fallen asleep: watching tv (shows I want to see), working, crocheting, reading, playing video games - I mean c'mon, PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. Not only do I sleep, but I'm so hard to wake up. I turn off my alarm (not snooze), I have full conversations with my parents before returning to sleep, and I don't remember half of the stuff that was said to me.

I'm so tired of it. I'm mostly tired of not being able to function and do what I need to. I wouldn't care if I got only 4 hours of sleep if I could run on it properly and not go into a coma (what I do can't be considered napping anymore).

I am at a loss of how to fix this poorly constructed cycle. I've stayed up for 24 hours in hopes that I'll just reset, I've just let my body do what it wants, I just don't know.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Because I'm so fed up with not being able to do simple, everyday tasks. I want to make this blog better too, but I can't because why spend time learning to create a bomb diggity blog just to not fill it with anything. I want to do craft diy's, recipes, book reviews, more about how my hip is changing my life, but until I have the energy to do simple things like work, I can't make this blog what I want it to be.

In desperation,

Jessica

Here We Go

Yup, here I am, as promised, blogging. I'm not entirely sure what's up with me, but you know none of that today - here's what I've been up to lately!
On Friday the 17th, William May II turned 24. TWENTY FOUR, wow he's old. I was over at his apartment along with Kelly and Eric for family dinner on Thursday the 16th and once it hit midnight, it was all about Bill.

Kelly spent a lot of time planning out what she wanted to get/make Bill for his birthday and I think she rocked the gift giving. I'm not sure if this only a southern fraternity/sorority tradition, but for a fraternity's formal the dates of the guys normally paint them a cooler to fill with beer and other goodies! Well, Kelly definitely hit it out of the park with this cooler - totally the best one I've ever seen her make. It featured an American flag, the PNG logo, quotes about how awesome GT is and how crappy UGA is (heh), and also featured both logos from Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Oh yeah, my friends play SWTOR like it's their job, but I play XBOX Live like they play SWTOR, so I am just as nerdtastic. The first thing I mentioned on here before - the ModCloth Raspberry Iced Tea dress! Man, ModCloth knows how to make a good package - seriously. Their box is so cute with all the doodles and little messages! Also, the dress wasn't bad either haha. I think it fits marvelously, but we will wait until my mom approves it to be my dress for my cousin's wedding. Either way, it's mine FOREVERRRR.

The other things I got that are of any big importance are my new glasses - regular and sunglasses. I don't really have good photos of them on my face yet, but I do have one when Lens Crafters was fitting them to my eyes.

Yeah, you can't really tell what they look like, but I will will attempt to take a good photo with them sometime soon. But, now I'm going to finish watching Glee and do some work. Yup. Peace out home skillets!

Jessica

Lame Wills

I need a swift kick in the ass, but no seriously...once I sleep and wake up I WILL write a blog post, I WILL make excuses why I haven't posted, and I WILL know that I'm still lame. Now I'm off pain killers, on my Crohn's shot, and feeling happy - the only thing I need to fix is my sleeping ability! You would think after 22 years of practice that I would be pretty proficient at sleeping, well, I am, but at all the wrong times! Right now I've been up for about 24 hours, not by choice. Hopefully I'll just take a quick siesta this afternoon and be fixed right up for the weekend!

On Tuesday it was Valentine's Day or single awareness day! For me, it was Cimzia coma day! I took my shot early in the afternoon, about two hours after I woke up, and I want to say that I was conscious for about two hours for the rest of the day. Something about taking Cimzia just puts you to sleep - normally it is only for a good nap, but I think I was a bit sickly and I just slept until I felt better, which was 9am on the 15th!

Even if I was conscious during Valentine's Day I wouldn't really have done much. BUT I did get a gift from my friend Jessica, who is awesome. I had no idea what I was getting and she was just so angry at the post because it got to me later than the other gifties she sent out! Well, I got it on the 13th (yay) and after trying to open the package, grabbing scissors, and finding the pull tab after I began cutting I got to my lovely home made gift (home made is my favorite, then again I like any gift)!

Jessica made me a tiny bottle full of sparkly pink faerie dust! It is completely gorgeous and I can't wait to be able to wear it out some place vs. just wearing it during my Cimzia coma day!

The rest of my week so far has been a week filled with firsts!

Last night, I hung out with Kelly for a few hours after my physical therapy and before her practice with Nothin' But Treble. We ended up needing to nom a bit and wound up at Chipotle. I've been to Moe's, Taco Bell, other mexican places, but never Chipotle. I thought it was going to be exactly like Moe's, but no. The chicken was so delicious and seasoned so well and their cilantro lime rice, oh, my, gah! I could eat that rice daily, for the rest of my life, after life, till the end of time, WHATEVER! Yes, I love Chipotle, but it's expensive and I will reserve it for a special time when my inner foodie needs something yummy.

My cousin John is getting married to the lovely Gloria in April and of course I need to find a dress, NOW! As a plus sized lady it takes me a bit longer to find a dress that is my style and my size. Honestly, if I was a smaller size, I'd have such a huge closet I'd need a two bedroom apartment and use the second bedroom just for a closet. I looked at all my usual stores and I found a few dresses that were..eh, ok, but nothing that screamed SPRING WEDDING.

I went to ModCloth and crossed my fingers that they would have something in plus sizes. Normally, when I search for plus sizes on ModCloth it's a simple 60's-esque dress and a few lovely bathing suits. This time, I hit the jackpot! I found the Raspberry Iced Tea Dress! It's so gorgeous and has gotten the thumbs up from everyone I've shown it to. I ordered it last night and it should get here in 4-9 days and that's when the real finger crossing begins. The way ModCloth works is that they get items from different designers, stores, whatever so all their sizes are "hit and miss". I'm praying that this will fit, or that I can lose enough weight to make it fit! I'll let you know when it arrives!

My last first actually started this morning! I saw the other day that Tresemme came out with a split ends remedy line and I decided to try it out! I never really had a problem with split ends before, but now that I have "long" hair it seems like my hair is going nuts at the ends.

It makes sense considering that the ends of my hair are probably around two years old by now (gross when you actually stop to think about it eh?). I'm really tired of seeing the split ends so I invested in a few of the Tresemme split ends remedy products: the shampoo and the leave in conditioner. I've never used a coordinated Tresemme line before, nor have I used a leave in conditioner. In fact, I rarely ever use conditioner in the first place. My hair gets so oily and greasy naturally that conditioner just makes it worse! In the past..maybe 14 years the only time I used conditioner was either after swimming for days on end in chlorine or if my hair was teased for a part in a school play (oy Bye Bye Birdie! see photo below).

So, these products say they can help almost 80% of split ends after three uses. I'll definitely let you guys know what happens (also if it strips my hair color or not, eek!).

Welp, this was a long post. Hopefully I'll have something else fun tomorrow! I have "family" dinner tonight with my besties and that's always fun. Perhaps I'll chronicle my musical experiences...if that isn't too boring!

OH, last thing: I added a GoodReads widget to the side of my blog to let Aun-Juli and the rest of you know what I've read so far this year! Honestly, I don't think I'm going to start feeling well until after my Crohn's shot tomorrow. I've been sleeping a lot and seem to be perpetually tired, but I did manage to do a few small things over the past..week ha.
Lately I've been obsessed with different ways to do nails. Unfortunately, I am not a nail artist...I'm way from it. I don't understand how the "nail gurus" are able to have such neat looking nails. I know that a lot of them use press on nails, but for the ones who use their natural nails - goodness me they have some talent! They must be ambidextrous!

I tend to stick to something simple when I do my nails. With this manicure I used Essie brand polish. If I was a professional nail blogger I'd have my colors written down and have an awesome photo and write the names of the polish right under it..but I don't.

Yup, those are my nails, that is one of the polishes I used. You can also tell I got some top coat on my cuticles, but whateva whateva. Ok I just spent like 5 minutes trying to find the name of the color and sparkle on Essie's website, but I failed. So, if you really want to know the names let me know and I'll stop being lazy and go find them.

I finally got to go to the optometrist after two years. I always hate the eye drop part of the visit. I don't mind them actually putting them in my eye, but I hate the after where my eyes dilate and they get numb so the doctor can get super close to my eye. For hours after the drops my eyes just feel weird. Numb eyes make me want to punch things. Then there's the dilation. Every light, whether it's a light bulb or the sun, it burns!

I haven't gone to get my new lenses yet, but hopefully tomorrow if I'm not too tired from my shot's side effect I'll be going to Lens Crafters. I really wanted to be able to keep my sun glasses the way they are, get new lenses in my current glasses, and get a new second pair. Unfortunately, my doc said that my prescription has changed so much that it would behoove me to change all my lenses to the new prescription. My eyes have changed so much that he also told me that it make take my eyes a few days to a week to adjust..yay haha.

On Thursday (also the day of the eye doc) I went to "family" dinner at Bill's apartment. This week we had tacos. We also had a few extra family members this week! Mary and Marshall joined us for the night. It was, as usual, a fun night!

Well, tomorrow I might be joining you if I'm not asleep from my shot. Hopefully this week will be better and more fun for us all!

Jessica

Crohn's Ball Boomerang

Life throws you curve balls, but you know, I've had a ton and well I'd like to think I can hit them out of the park.

Crohn's is one of those curve balls that even if you do hit or miss it seems to boomerang back around over and over and over again.

Yesterday it came back around and is still loop de looping around me. It's not that bad, well, nausea is always bad. I can't really explain how it feels, but it's a bit worse than I have a stomach bug. I am so lucky to be able to receive my new laptop and hopefully I will be able to protect it like a momma bear.
This past Friday I went over to Bill's to hang out with my main gal Kelly. We decided to have a bit of a girls night with wine and crafts - so that's what we did!

When I got there we just chilled for a bit and watched David Tutera's show where he takes a woman's plans for her wedding and make them a bit...well a lot a bit better. Some of these weddings were amazzzzzing, like the Alice in Wonderland wedding. I hope one day I could have a wedding half as stylish as the wedding on the show were.

After we filled our brains with wanting for awesomely planned weddings, we started our crafting. Lately a tutorial for cutting wine bottles with yarn has been making a mad sweep through the internet. I've seen the tutorial on multiple blogs and also on Pintrest. Kelly and I had to try this one out.

Wellll, it is a bit harder than the tutorial made it out to be. I'm not sure if it was the wine bottle being a bit thicker than the ones used in the tutorial or if we just didn't wrap the yarn correctly around the bottle - either way this didn't work out as it was supposed to. Kelly got her bottle to cut, but unfortunately it then cut again below the original cut. So, Kelly only had a half fail. My bottle never cut at all. I had a full fail. Whomp. The only plus side was the tutorial involved light shit on fire.

After that we popped some champagne and had a wonderful ole time.

Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday! This is the one meal a year my dad realllly likes to plan. We woke up and went to Waffle House to start the pig out day off right. After a yummy lunch we headed off to Publix. Goodness it was super crowded - I even had to ask a man restocking shelves if they had another fridge pack of Diet Pepsi in the back (they did).

For dinner my dad made his Super Bowl chili. Along with that we had Lipton's french onion dip, chips, shrimp cocktail, and hot wings. So much food. So much goodness. SO MUCH YUM. Plus, the Giants came out victorious!! HUZZAH!

I was asked to keep a list of all the books I've read and had read this year by a loverly lady who makes loverly Fancy Narwhals. So I cannot decide how I want to keep this list. I already keep one on GoodReads.com, but perhaps I'll throw up a page dedicated to books and maybe even book reviews. I just have a hard time writing book reviews that I deem worthy of how much I like the books I read.

I'll figure it out eventually. But until then I'll be just working and stuff. See yah tomorrow!
Jessica

MacDeath Pro

Well, I knew the time would come when my MacBook Pro would die...but I didn't think it'd be like this.

To quote The Matrix "not like this, not like this" *dies*.

Yesterday there was a bit of oops in and around my laptop. I mean no offense to the lovely people who are geniuses, just Apple c'mon pick another name) and while we were there the outcome looked ok, but the call I received later confirmed that the worst thing that could have happened did:

The water reached my logic board and as the technician said "it could be 5 days, it could be 5 hours, but eventually it will not turn back on".

Well, to get the damage fixed would be $1240 aka over $100 more than a new 13.3 inch MacBook Pro with my college student rate. Oy. Oy! OY!

So, I really want a mac back. I like the OS better, I like the swipey track pad, I like the way the keyboard feels under my fingers, and I also like my iCal. I am by no means an Apple Fangirl, I just really liked my laptop. Hopefully the decision of what to do will be made tomorrow and I'll have something to tell you.

Until I get a new computer I probably will not have any very interesting posts as I don't want to load personal photos to the laptop I am using (thanks Narayanans). Gah. I hope I will see you tomorrow - with photos...aka a new laptop.

Living Life

Birth is a beginning, and death a destination; But life is a journey.

This weekend I was reminded of how true that saying is.
On Thursday after I had my hair done I was lucky enough to be able to go down to Bill's apartment. We (and by we I mean Bill, Eric, Kelly, and myself) decided that every Thursday will be "family dinner night". It started a week before this past Thursday when Kelly made us delicious tortellini.

This Thursday was my turn to provide dinner for the four of us. I spent about an hour trying to figure out what to bring to cook. Finally I just grabbed a few things from my house and headed down to Bill's. When I got there I defrosted spicy Italian sausage, chopped red bell pepper, and boiled water for bowtie pasta.

I ended up taking the sausage out of the casing and browning it with olive oil. I added red bell peppers, garlic powder, and a half a jar of pasta sauce with parmesan. It ended up being more delicious than I thought it would be. Thank goodness!

After eating we played a few rounds of The Great Dalmuti. But like last time, Kelly got fed up with the game after not being able to get out of the greater peon spot (but honestly who wouldn't get fed up being called "greater peon"). After that Eric left and the three of us watched Red State by Kevin Smith. It was weird...but the ending had a few funny moments.

When I got home I went in to let my mom know I was back. This is when I reminded of life being a journey.

My mom told me that Ms. Lotte, the matriarch of our Temple, had passed away. I had known Ms. Lotte for most of my life. She spent hours sitting next to me crocheting when I was in the hospital with my MRSA. Her daughter is a friend of my mom's and I grew up with her youngest grandson. Ms. Lotte was amazing. She lived an amazing life and didn't let anything slow her down.

She passed away at the age of 94 and if I could live my life to half of the level of activeness Ms. Lotte did, my journey would be amazing.

I hadn't been back to my family's temple since my grandmother's funeral, and well it was hard. I've attended services at college and other places, but I haven't been able to go back into our synagogue. Unlike last time, there wasn't a casket in front. Ms. Lotte decided to donate her body (following the example of her husband Bill) to Emory for medical research and teaching.

Ms. Lotte's memorial was last night and I just know I will never, ever forget her. I love you Ms. Lotte, with all my heart and I hope you are able to look down and see just how many people you reached in your glorious 94 years of life.

This...life event...has made me even more excited about my life and what's upcoming. In about 4 weeks I'll be done stepping down my pain meds and will finally feel great again. Here's to living life!

Jessica

The Hair Lip of Notre Dame

Oh hey Jessica where were you yesterday? Well, you noticed there wasn't a blog post so I guess I owe you an explanation - and let me tell you, the reason contains a very unflattering photo of my face (but a very flattering new hair cut and color).
On Tuesday night I bit my lip...and by bit I mean at first I accidentally bit it and then I gnawed on it and then something happened...

At first I thought oh well i just bit the part of my lip that is the outer bit. Well, that was a lie. I lied to myself in order to calm my anxiety leg shake, but in reality I had done something to my lip that caused it to swell. This swelling wasn't "oh my lip is a bit puffy" it was more like OH MY LORD MY LIP IS RESEMBLING THE HUNCH BACK OF NOTRE DAME!

Yeah, that may sound like I'm overreacting, but here we go, here's the very unflattering photo of my face (in my opinion this photo is worse than the photo of me during my sleep study):

I think the photo of my mouth open really allows you to get the full extent of how gross it is. My lip couldn't even swell symmetrically. If it had swollen completely across my lip it would just look like I had a collegen injection - people would totally pay me to bite their lip and make them look like Angelina Jolie (maybe).

Now the one thing I did do yesterday is go get my hurr did. Normally I wouldn't have gone out, but I already moved my appointment to yesterday after having a business meeting on my original appointment day. My hair couldn't have taken another 2 weeks without getting something done to it. My roots were completely grown in and my ends were splitting (which is to be expected since the ends are probably now 1.5 - 2 years old).

Laura (my fabbbbulous stylist) and I decided on blunt layers with a bit of face framing along with red-brown all over color and a few lovely teal streaks.

My hair has gotten so ridiculously long. I love it. The last time I had hair this long was either early elementary school or pre-k. I normally keep my hair about shoulder length, but the long it is the more fun hairstyles and braids I can try. So, I believe I'm going to be keeping it long for a while. Plus a ton of my friends say they like it (but my mom likes it shoulder length and blonde, sorry mom).

The last little note for today is that a few weeks ago I finallllly (after 2 years) submitted my reentry application to my college! I'm so excited. Yes, I haven't been "officially" let back in, but there should be no reason for them to say no. I'm uber excited to get back to learnin' and just being college-y.

I have no idea what I'm going to talk about tomorrow, but who knows, it could be that my lip is more swollen...or that I don't know..just come back...please?

Jessica

Charity Hair Bracelet

Howdy Doody ladies and gents. How are you today? I'm crampy, but good. So far today I've gotten a package in the mail, ate, did a bit of work, and now I'm blogging for you. I didn't get to do my nails yesterday (or today so far), but I do have a few a things to show you and talk about! One of these things is something very, very important to me and I would appreciate it if you would take the time to read about it.

One of the charities that is extremely near and dear to my heart is Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. When I got sick at the age of 12, if it was not for the care that was provided to me by CHOA I would not be around to talk/blog/entertain you all today.

When I first got to CHOA on April 1st, 2002 I was in danger of dying. By the time the ambulance got me downtown I had about an 104.7 degree fever and was beginning to get delirious. My MRSA infection had started to permeiate into my blood stream and if they had not caught my sepsis the MRSA could have continued on to my vital organs and caused major damage and possibly death. After I was cleared to start physical therapy, the therapists at CHOA were amazing and helped me with everything.

I always remember the 6 weeks I spent in CHOA and how every doctor, nurse, aid, basically anyone who I came in contact with was amazingly wonderful and made such a horrible experience a little bit more tolerable. So, when my friend Haley explained how she was raising money for CHOA through UGA Miracle I automatically knew that I would be donating.

Haley decided that she was going to sell handmade bracelets to reach her goal. Each bracelet is $10 and let me tell you I love this bracelet. Normally I hate having things around my wrist because they are tight and uncomfortable, but Haley some how managed to get the sizing just right without knowing my wrist measurements. If you would like to help out sick children and get an amazing bracelet, please comment, email me at jasnellings [at] gmail [dot] com, or if you know Haley contact her directly. I cannot express how much this would mean to me and to the children that utilize the services that UGA Miracle makes possible by donations.

The second thing I have isn't quite as philanthropic of me. Last time I went to Sephora with Sarah I got a little sample of Josie Maran Argan Oil. This oil is similar to Moroccan Oil and helps with hair, nails, and skin. I used a little bit on my hair on Sunday and it made it extremely smooth after my first use. I'll be using it again next time I wash my hair after my dye sets tomorrow afternoon in my appointment. I'm so excited for tomorrow and my "new" hair. Hopefully I'll get a good photo for you guys!

See yah tomorrow with a new do!
Jessica

Braids and a...Sexual Cat?

Today I wanted to post a review of John Green's newest book The Fault in Our Stars, but I want to make sure that when I write it I do justice to the book and to my feelings about it. Reviews are one things I do not like rushing just to get them out, especially when the book I've read effects me the way this one has.

So, instead of a book review I think I'm going to do a hair post!
My hair is naturally dirty blonde, but not the nice dirty blonde that looks light brown. My blonde is extremely ashy and needed bleach highlights to look semi nice. I haven't been blonde in quite a while now and I don't ever see myself being blonde again unless I can't afford coloring.

I've done a ton of stuff to my hair. I've had red tips and random color streaks. My hair has been blonde, brown, reddish, and brown with an eggplant hue. It's been almost to my butt, cut up above my chin, shoulder length, and lengths in between. Basically I will do almost anything to my hair because I know that it will grow back. I believe that a hair style and color are the easiest ways to "reinvent" your look.

I'm getting my hair done this Wednesday and am kind of confused with what I want. I really think I want to keep my hair long so I can try out a bunch of the fabulous braided hairstyles that are floating around other blogs and Pintrest. I can also show you guys my super fails with trying these hairstyles. For some reason I can't master the easiest hairstyles (like milk made braids or the beehive + braids).

I want to say that my hair is going to end up reddish and transferring into brown. I also think that I'm going to get a "peacock" under coloring. My hair stylist and I love putting in unnatural hair colors in fun ways. When we use "peacock" colors it is normally purple, blue, and green. You can check out the other hair styles I like on my Hair Pintrest Board.

I think today or tomorrow I'm going to attempt to do something fun with my nails...so look forward to that epic fail!

Today I will leave you with Bigs' second personality...his pornsonality if you allow..heh.

See you all tomorrow!

Jessica

Lame Sauce

Oh lawdy. What a day it was yesterday, filled with SOPA and PIPA protesting. Heh =]
On Tuesday afternoon I took my Crohn's shot called Cimzia. Cimzia has amazingly made my Crohn's stay pretty much under control for a bit over a year now, but it does have one side effect. Every time that I take it I get what I call the Cimzia Sleepies. Yup. I get so drained and tired after I take my shot. I fell asleep at 10:30 pm on Tuesday which is unheard of in my sleeping schedule.

I wish I had something awesome to tell you all about, but today I'm just working and making scarves. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have finished John Green's newest book The Fault in Our Stars and be able to tell you about it. I guess the reason why I didn't spend much time thinking about MLK's words was because I always try to put them into practice. I live in a very diverse area and thinking someone is lesser just because of the color of their skin is something I find deplorable. I mean, that doesn't mean I don't like Shit White Girls Say or Shit Black Girls Say, I love stereotypes (I fit so many especially according to Stuff White People Like), but just because I like stereotypes doesn't mean that forcing someone to drink out of a different fountain is acceptable.

So like I said yesterday was a very relaxing day. I am still having a very hard time falling asleep at night and therefore I slept until 1pm. I did a bit of blogging, I did a bit of exercising, I did a bit of eating.

At 5:30-ish I went over to Bill's apartment to spend some time hanging out with the three who live there (Bill, Kelly, Eric). Bill came home from work cranky, but who wouldn't - most people get off on MLK day. After a bit of a squabble it was decided that Kelly and Eric would go get ingredients to make Kelly's mom's tomato spinach tortellini.

Well thanks to Kelly and her mom we had a very yummy dinner while watching a few episodes of Battlestar Galactica. After dinner Bill and Eric played Star Wars: The Old Republic, Kelly started to arrange a piece for Nothin' But Treble, and I crocheted a bit. Oh, also Kelly, Eric and I watched an ABC Family movie named Cyberbully.

Now, being a sarcastic bunch we can rarely watch a made for tv movie without mocking it mercilessly. The movie has an important message, do not bully, not even online, but as most made for tv movies, the writing wasn't exactly the best. There is one scene in which a 17 year old girl cannot manage to open a pill bottle and most of the other ridiculousness was just the lines. The message was right, but the writing was so wrong.

Now that I've talked about racism and making fun of a movie that is supposed to be a teaching tool, the last thing I got for you all is something I'm doing that just makes me appreciate what I have.

Ever since I got sick when I was twelve I've learned to appreciate the very small things that most people don't really ever think about. Over the years I've realized how special it is to take just one step, to put on a sock, to be able to just enjoy life. After going through the last two years I have started to think more about those small things and I've started a list of just those few things I notice during my days that I love.

Do you guys ever notice those small things? We are also...kind of competitive, so keeping score is a must.

On Friday I went over to Bill's apartment and he surprised us with a new game! This game was almost a mix of the card games Old Maid and Crazy Eights. The game was called The Great Dalmuti. I'm not going to lie, I kind of kicked major boootay! The point of the game is to get rid of all your cards first, and I, multiple times. I even went out first without giving anybody else the chance to even get close. That said, Bill, Kelly, and Eric all had their amazing rounds as well. Kelly started out hating the game, but by the end she started to like it (she didn't like it as much as Bill, but you know I'm sure we will play it again).

After the game, we decided to watch a movie. Since it was Friday the 13th, Bill decided that we should watch a horror movie. We ended up watching Let Me In, which is based on a Swedish film named Let the Right One In. It was a good movie. I'm not entirely sure if I would watch it over and over again, but I definitely enjoyed seeing it. Chloe Moretz is such an amazing actress. Seeing her as Hit Girl in Kickass before seeing her portray Abby in Let Me In allowed me to see the versatility of her acting ability!

On Saturday, I met my friend Sarah at the mall for a bit of shopping and dinner. Sarah had a gift card to Macy's so the first bit of time at the mall was spent searching for new sheets and a new pillow for Sarah's delicate little head (hehe). We found a Martha Stuart full queen sheet set on sale! It was adorable! The background is white/off white and there are multiple stripes of differing colors of purple. I kind of wish I stole them from her for myself! She also found a pillow that she liked - which was amazing since she took hours (just kidding, love you Sarah)!

After that we headed down to Sephora. I needed to buy a bottle Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. I had gotten a sample of it a while ago to make sure it wouldn't make my scalp break out. I tend to be allergic to a lot of hair products, but this spray is amazing! I finally found something that allows my hair to be it's curly/wavy self without looking so greasy!

Also while we were in Sephora I got a little express service to learn how to do cat eyeliner. Hopefully I will get good at it and show you all! The last thing I bought was an every day neutral eye shadow palette. As a Sephora VIB I get the chance to get free items and discounts - this time I got a mini set of OPI top coat, bottom coat, nail polish remover, and a lilac color called Iris I Was Thinner. After the mall we had a delicious dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. Yum!

The last thing I did this weekend was amazing. When I started my diagnosis process for my Crohn's Disease two years ago I barely was able to leave the house due to symptoms and side effects. I spent most of my time at home watching youtube videos. The videos that made me the most happy and interested me the most were made by two brothers called The Vlogbrothers. Yesterday they came into town for John's new book tour and just a general "Tour de Nerdfighting". To get ready for this I went to get my nails done with Haley. I go to Crystal Nails because they are amazing there! Mickey is an awesome nail artist and turned my nails into a Doctor Who "shrine".

After nails I went down to meet up with Chris and go to the tour at Agnes Scott college. The brothers did a ninety minute "show" filled with a book reading, songs, questions, inside jokes, and just a whole lot of fun. When the show ended they brothers were so nice and spent about 3 hours signing and personalizing books. Chris and I were some of the last people to get up to them because of where we were sitting. Honestly, it was worth three hours. They were so nice and appreciative of every single person who attended (which was over 800 people).

John spoke about going through pastor training and how part of it was being a chaplain at a children's hospital in Ohio. He said how that after doing that he just wanted to write a book showing the real children who are battling illnesses in a hospital. The way John described it was that most books talking about children's hospitals make out the patients to be old souls with the secrets of the universe in their eyes, when in reality they are just children. All they wanted was to play and have fun and to never be told "how strong they were" because they didn't have a choice to be strong or not. As soon as he said that I started to cry. What he said hit home for me so much. In the six weeks I spent at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, I started to feel the same way. Even now when people describe me as strong I don't know how to react. I had no choice in the matter really - if I wasn't strong, honestly I'd be dead.

The Tour de Nerdfighting was one of the best experiences I've had and I'm just hoping the rest of my year (and life) can be just as amazing as my Sunday.

Don't Forget To Be Awesome (DFTBA).

Jessica

Three Little Hobby Lobby Pills

Oh hello. I have this thing where I enjoy wearing random hats I find in stores. Yeah, I'm one of those people who wear ridiculous hats in public. This time around I became a sunflower while at Hobby Lobby. I seem to dress up in stores when I'm shopping with Mrs. Kathleen. I actually ran into someone exiting an aisle and then apologized in case I freaked them out - most people seem to think I'm nuts when I wear crazy hats...

Yesterday I had a business meeting. I work for my neighbors, who are also basically my second family. I've known them since I was two and I've known their sons since they were born. Thankfully I'm working for them because they understand all of my illnesses and are very relaxed with my schedule.

After our meeting Mrs. Kathleen and I went to Hobby Lobby (as you can tell by the photo). We spent our time there in the home decor sale area. I found a few things that I absolutely loved...but didn't actually want to buy - the sunflower hat included (sunflowers are my favorite).

In an aisle with frames I saw these three little Japanese girl figurines. In case you didn't know I'm a musical fanatic - I've been in six, worked on more than that, and have seen so many musicals I can't count. So, when I saw these three figurines I automatically picked them up, turned to Mrs. Kathleen, and started singing "Three little maids from school are we" from The Mikado. Yup, I'm ridiculous and totally not politically correct.

The last thing I found in Hobby Lobby was a giant blue pinwheel. Seriously, the wheel part was the size of my head. I wanted it so badly, but I didn't know what I would do with it. I controlled myself and bought nothing. Mrs. Kathleen got some lovely fake poinsettias to make a Christmas wreath (they were on major sale).

I think I finally figured out why I've been feeling so poorly over the past week or so. Since two years ago when my Crohn's was starting to be diagnosed I have taken pain medicine on and off. Over the last year I have been taken pain killers daily to control the pain I've had in my hip. The closer I got to my replacement surgery the more pain I was in. I had to work out daily to lose enough weight to get my surgery and I was in constant excruciating pain. Now that I'm finally in way less pain it's time to slowly step ween me off of pain killers. I had a major drop this Sunday from an extremely strong pain killer to a more common one. I believe I just feel like crap due to a little bit of withdrawing - oy. I take 15+ pills a day, but hopefully soon enough I'll take a few out of that handful!

Sorry about no post yesterday, but I was busy and feeling horible. I hope this one was enjoyable!
Jessica

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Birtch Box In No Hole?

Sinuses suck hardcore. Seriously, I have had a sinus infection for a good month and a half. I am on my second round of antibiotics and they seem to be failing hardcore. This morning..and by morning I mean this afternoon..I decided to make something rather simplistic to keep my stomach calm and just to be freaking easy.

Well, needless to say I failed.

What I wanted to make seems to be something that is enjoyed a good bit in the UK and surprisingly a few people I know have eaten it here, Egg In A Hole. The first time it really clicked in my brain that this might be something worth making was when I saw V for Vendetta (the movie was actually on last night). But, the reason I decided to make it was a late night recipe hunt on foodgawker.

I've been looking for easy recipes for lunch because I'm so tired of regular sandwiches, but I really do not want to spend a good bit of time cooking in the middle of the day. Egg in a Hole is simple and fast, so it was today's recipe. What this recipe consists of is a piece of toast with a hole placed in a middle and then an egg cooked in the middle.

This is what I got:

Yeah. I used something a bit too big to put the hole in the toast and ended up cracking the outer rim of the toast. So, I ended up having toast with peanut butter and jelly.

The only other thing I can get out of my stuffed up head, is my absolute want for a BirchBox/Glossy Box/whatever box as long as it comes stuffed with make up and beauty goodies. My friend Cari just started getting her Birch Box yesterday and got one product that I've really wanted to try: Zoya nail polish. The one reason I haven't gotten a box is they range from $10-$12 a month and I don't think I can bring myself to spend $120ish a year for products I may or may not like, but who knows!

So I guess if you get a box let me know what you think! Also, if you have quick lunch ideas please let me know. No more cold cut sandwiches!

See you all tomorrow (hopefully with no sinus issues)!
Jessica
