Hipbone was founded 21 years ago in a very small studio downtown in the Pythian Building. Since then, with a couple of other locations and now in our current much larger space, it has evolved from its original purpose-to provide a space for visual artists to engage and study the human figure and respond creatively to it-to one that also includes the performing arts. The studio easily converts from what many say is the best place to draw in town, into a real, live theater to accommodate drama, storytelling, dance, music literary readings, etc.. Other welcome uses have included; private parties, craft fairs, photography shoots, classes and rehearsals.

Figure Drawing ~ Beginning/Intermediate

Monday Evenings: 6:30-9:30pm

June 1st - August 3rd

A great deal of pleasure and satisfaction can be achieved through the act of drawing. We will focus this exploration on the human figure.  Students will study gesture, contour and form using charcoal, erasures, pencil and ink. We will practice looking and seeing with line, value, shadow and negative space to create shape and form. We will work with a nude model.  I encourage each of you, regardless of experience, to appreciate your current abilities yet not be content to remain there so that you can enjoy the thrill of discovery.
